If you search for reviews of this game on the web, you'll find some real hatchet jobs: mediocre, failed imitation of the Sam Fisher games, and so on. Play it, and you may feel differently. This probably is a game that climbed on the stealth bandwagon after the success of Splinter Cell - but SC itself was built on other games (the wonderful Thief series, most notably). But it is more than mere imitation: it has real character and atmosphere. Moreover, the gameplay is (for me, anyway) well judged: tricky, but not impossibly difficult - it's a game, not a job! Leaving the home-made gadgets to one side (they're fun, but not realistic),this is a lot more like real life than the absurd exploits of Mr Fisher! Some critics have condemned the drab locations - and they are a lot less striking than many of the SC levels, it's true. But having myself visited factories and government installations in the Soviet Union, I can confirm that the air of dinginess and squalor is NOT exaggerated: this is how it was, even including the rubbish (with which our hero makes his gadgets). So, if you want simple, absorbing, stealthy fun, exuding the musty, unwashed odour of a singular time in history, then buy this game.

Surprisingly good quality, quirky little stealth romp, easy to play and pleasing to the eyes (even by today's standards). By no means a substitute for Sam Fisher or even master Thief Garrett (my hero!!), but considering the price, not a bad way to spend a rainy weekend (or snowy weekend, for that matter, comrade...).
