My wife and I are not big COD fans but we plucked for this one because we like the era and enjoyed playing Battlefield 1. We are casual gamers.====== Campaign ======The campaign for COD WW2 sees the player assuming control of Red, a new soldier hitting the beaches of Normandy to take up the European campaign. From here we see him take part in some of the key battles, bond in brotherhood with his fellow soldiers and come to blows with his difficult superior officer. The campaign is certainly enjoyable and the cinematics are some of the best I have seen in gaming which certainly help to move the story along in an engaging way… But it does not go deep enough or allow the player to stray away from any of the objective. At times, it can feel like the levels are way too linear and restrictive or the objective you have to ‘reach’ is highlighted without the player doing any work to discover it. There is a lot of hand holding through the more interesting and emotional parts of the game leaving you to just run-and-gun through the environments. A lot of the time you need to reach an area to trigger a cut scene or the next state of play so don’t spend ages trying to wipe out every soldier because they will just keep coming. There is a moment later in the game where you are being shot at by an MG nest in a tower, you have a rocket launcher but if you fire it at the tower (which I think most players would do if they knew they had one in their arsenal) the rocket bends upwards into the sky and the gunner keeps firing; unless you play how the game wants you to play it won’t let you do anything and there are lots more examples throughout. Some of the better moments of the campaign I felt were around the stealth aspects including a tense level of spying in the German headquarters in Paris. Trying to return a child blended both the gameplay and cut scenes brilliantly to make you feel like part of an action scene that had some emotional weight. Even supplying ammo to frontline soldiers in the Ardennes forest was welcomed as a change of pace from the run-and-gun moments that you see plenty of (albeit in a hand-held way).My main criticism of the campaign is that it is a little too short and the linear nature of levels make the replayability very minimal. Stealth is called upon at some points but you might as well not bother – you will get so far into a level before you just start shooting up the place anyway. The story is good but it gets better as it goes along, it can feel a little too ‘American’ and clichéd at times, borrowing beats from Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers. The beach landing is an anti-climax for me because I have played it in a previous Call of Duty game and even Medal of Honor Frontlines – it is one of the most overdone events in film and games and it didn’t need to be done again. There are moments where the story starts to build especially when flashing back to Red as a kid or when the concentration camps are involved but it draws back – almost like the developers were too afraid of pushing the boundaries. This means that at some of the more interesting moments go by without you interacting with them in the way you want to – a shame. An absolute major gripe I have is dying mysteriously out of nowhere - respawning and then immediately dying again. I was stuck in a vicious loop of this for a while until by sheer chance I sprinted and missed the timing of the explosion. This has happened countless times and it has been a big source of frustration.====== Multiplayer ======Multiplayer has followed suit with Destiny by having a community ‘lobby’ where you can equip your soldier, test weapons, prestige your class, take up daily and weekly orders – there’s bloody loads of stuff! At first it can seem daunting as there are lots of things you need to do and the game itself doesn’t do a great job at helping you to get started. There are so many things going on at once – daily orders, weekly orders, weapon upgrade tasks, player upgrades, perks, ribbons, appearance unlocks it can be a headache to navigate especially as there are so many menus to go across and the UI isn’t the best. It took me ages to find some features and in the end I had to just google ‘How do I…” and I found the answers. I’m not in a hurry to get the most badass class going so I am taking my time with a lot of the things and I feel I enjoy it more, the game can feel a little pressuring on some of the options as there are time restrictions to achieve objectives from a week down to 30 minutes for some. A lot of the rewards are either coins or loot crates.Loot crates can be obtained by playing matches or spending coins on them. They are certainly interesting to get but they don’t have anything game changing in there. I think the most interesting thing you can get is different clothing to make your soldier more individual. Sure there are some gun grips and emotes if that’s your bag but don’t get too excited. There are some occasional XP bonuses here and there but again nothing of a game changer.Matches are relatively short across the board here (in public matches anyway that are not customised) – I think the longest is around 15 minutes so if you are looking for something more progressive and want to take your time getting around to the objectives then you may want to rethink purchasing the game if that’s your kind of thing. The action is fast and relentless, matches can go backwards and forwards quickly and it needs you to be on your toes all the time. I tried every scenario one after the other which helped to not make the game stale. Gridiron (football) is a great game and you can only win by scoring with the ball, unlike search and destroy where you have only one life and most players just try to wipe the other team out to win instead of completing the objective. I find that the mode ‘War’ is a bit of a let-down. I appreciate its more objective approach but on such small maps the matches are over in the same time as any other mode. It needs bigger maps and a bigger player count to really have some depth to it. By making it a longer match it would make it a different change of pace to any of the other modes which can be helpful to get some longevity out of a game without it being repetitive. You will die a lot in this game – no doubt about it, but the turnaround time to respawn is very quick so there are no lingering anger feelings (unlike Battlefield 1!) and you can just get on with it. All classes start off with crap guns and sometimes it can feel a little against you when you first start but as soon as you start to unlock your first weapon, first attachment and so on it gets better and you can start to tailor your soldier to how you want to play. The maps themselves are small, completely the opposite to Battlefield 1’s huge fields of snipers (but that doesn’t mean players won’t try to snipe you on the maps here!). They are all primarily three lane design with each lane being bunched up with props and objects that you cannot interact with. The maps don’t have much verticality designed into them and consist mainly on one level with some occasional stairways. This is the game’s biggest drawback as it just relies on basic shooting skill, there are no chances to shake things up a little bit by shooting from a high sniping point or destroying a building to stop campers – there is no strategy. You can find yourself wandering around for a while before you shoot players in the back or you are being shot in the back and it cycles from there. Any gunfights with other players are over in not even seconds, there are no long drawn out gun fights it is instant death pretty much. The perks can shake things up a little bit if you live long enough to use them and can certainly help to break any choke points but with the scores resetting every time you get killed I wouldn’t rely on them too much. The game engine for the multiplayer looks different to the single player stuff, I would say it looks like previous console generation stuff but with moving through the maps so quickly you don’t really have time to stop and stare. I don’t know if it IS different but just based on the small cut scenes I have seen it looks very different.Overall multiplayer is what you make of it, when I first started playing it I disliked it for being so quick and unforgiving but over time I have started to prefer it over Battlefield 1. I have found Battlefield to be more realistic with its open spaces and varying environments and Call of Duty is a lot more Hollywood – not that it’s a bad thing. With time a factor in playing games it’s easier to jump into a game of COD than Battlefield and you can earn things like weapons faster, it is certainly more rewarding. The bonus of having split screen is great and it means my wife and I can play the game at the same time, it’s a shame that you can’t progress your soldier whilst playing this but I suppose the developers want you to play online instead. It still proves a great sandbox area for weapons though as they are all available with all of the attachments so you can test them out before you spend any hard-earned coins on anything online.====== Conclusion ======The game is great and I am still enjoying it, the campaign is certainly interesting but it’s not as good as it could have been. Sledgehammer have definitely been too reserved and it does impact the enjoyability and replayability of the campaign. The multiplayer is where all of the focus has been put but again with the developers not wanting to stray too far from their roots it has stopped them doing anything new and could be perceived as a re-skin of previous COD instalments. I did not pick up any of the previous COD games since COD 4: Modern Warfare so maybe my enthusiasm for the game is perhaps a little more forgiving of features I feel are missing. If you love the COD franchise and wouldn’t want to change anything then this will fit you like a glove, if you were disappointed with previous COD games and where they were heading after the Advanced and Infinite stuff then maybe this might be a game too far.I have not played Zombies and nor will I – I did not buy the game for this mode.

The multiplayer aspect isn’t something that I can comment upon with much authority as I haven’t yet played it. I’ve set up a few ‘local’ matches against bots, offline (it’s still great to be able to do that), and they’ve felt good. The pace is much slower that the all-singing, leaping and dancing-about versions of Call of Duty that we have seen in recent years, so I expect the much-mentioned ‘boots on the ground’ aspect might seem tedious to some at first. It wouldn’t be fair for me to comment on the multiplayer side of things though; neither would it be fair to talk about the zombie mode, which has never interested me.This review is based solely on my experience of the single player campaign.I have owned and played every single Call of Duty game since the very beginning. I had huge expectations for this edition, particularly because of its return to the World War 2 theatre, the last such excursion being a whole decade ago now, when CoD: World at War was released in 2008. With such a degree of anticipation, CoD: WWII could so easily have fallen flat on its face, but having just finished it, my own experience was that the single player campaign is up there with the best of them. The pace of the game, the level design, the story – loosely tied to actual events – and the characterisation, brought brilliantly to life with superb animation and voice acting, all added up to an utterly engrossing experience. For the most part it wasn’t anything that I hadn’t seen before, but occasionally the game would throw a curve ball and deliver the unexpected. I won’t utter any spoilers here; let’s suffice it to say that there are one or two stealth-based sections that I found to be not only quite unique in terms of how they were realised but also a refreshing change in terms of pace, helping the gameplay to feel well-balanced overall. As for those elements that I found to be nothing particularly new, they are still brilliantly realised within this game.Another thing that this game does extremely well is to create a sense of empathy. It is a rare thing indeed to feature characters that are not only believable – warts and all – but are also characters that the player cares about. Whilst that can only be said of the handful of people within the main narrative, it is nonetheless quite some achievement for a game that is more about action than anything else.As for the graphics…I played the game on an Xbox One X, via a 4k TV, and it looked stunning. The lighting, smoke, and above all the intricate details and textures are all eye-candy of the highest order. Everything looks and feels solid and/or alive. A certain rival game that is set during a different world war also looks incredible and to my eyes this is easily its equal in that department. So, is everything rosy in this particular garden? Well, no – not quite. I could have done with the campaign being a bit longer. I’m not sure how long iot took, but it was probably only around six hours in total. Some people have also criticised the fact that the campaign is played solely from the American perspective (previous CoD titles to be set during this era have flitted between different allied nations), but I think the story has a greater chance to work as its thread runs throughout, plus the sense of character empathy grows accordingly.I experienced an annoying glitch twice, where I found that I was inexplicably stuck, once in shrubbery and another time in the edge of a tent, and couldn’t move. The first time I was able to break free by hitting the sprint control, but the second time I had to reload the last saved checkpoint. That was annoying, but far from game-breaking. The only other issue was a small amount of screen tearing during the cut scenes.None of the negative issues are enough for me to mark this game down. I genuinely loved playing Call of Duty: WWII and I’ll be returning to the front line very soon. If, like me, you’re a fan of the single player experience, I absolutely recommend this title.

As someone who's played the Medal of Honor games on PS2 and PC ages ago, and the old COD ones set in WWII, this is a very good WWII campaign of the 2015-20 era.The story is actually quite deep - while it doesn't bathe you in WWII historical material (a good thing IMO), it does portray the violence and destruction very well. The characters you play with, i.e. your regiment, all have their own personalities and I find the video cutscenes engrossing and enjoy watching them - for instance, the tension between Turner and Pearson (main seargent and 2nd in command) is visibly displayed and you understand more about it as the story goes on.The missions are varied. For the most part, it's a FPS.Currently I'm on the penultimate mission and the only non-FPS parts I've had are in a tank for about 30 mins, in an AA gun for about 15 mins and in a MG-mounted vehicle for 20 mins - these will be less if you're playing on Normal or Easy (I'm on Hardened). There is also a great stealth mission where you play as a French woman working undercover for the first half, then as yourself for the second once the Nazi HQ is blown up, as per your mission. Aside from these, it's you and your 2 weapons. There have been some very memorable moments in each mission, they're all just very enjoyable to play. Many many unexpected things happen, like a sniper who you have to ultimately take down, or suddenly encountering civilians which the squad decides to rescue, only to find out that a child has stayed behind in the now Nazi-infested building - what happens at the end of the mission was quite shocking for me. You will enjoy the different and varied environments, the different weapons as you progress, and the interaction between the squad. You do feel a sense of attachment to your best friend, Zussman I think he's called. They all have different personalities. Finally, the graphics are awesome, as are the sounds!I am playing on Hardened difficulty, and I've played for about 10 hours and not completed it yet. Playing on this difficulty means you can't simply rush the levels, which would be a great shame to do given that they are laid out really well. You will find that moving forward is sometimes necessary to progress the mission, otherwise there is an unlimited amount of enemies spawning from a certain location, but to not have this would make the game far too easy, as you'll just pick them all off from a distance and then happily run forward when it's all quiet.Buy this game - I got it used for £8.50 free delivery, and am loving it. A lot of work has gone into the campaign, despite my initial scepticism given the recent CODs that have focussed on unrealistic machine warfare.Solid 8/10 (I have no intentions on playing multi-player; I only play single-player campaigns.)

COD WW2 is a welcome return to what made the series great. Gone is the irritating and supposedly futuristic wall-jumping and jet-thrusting around in favour of back to basics boots on the ground. The improvements in technology since the last WW2 shooter really shows and the imagery is fantastic, which together with convincing thuds when bombs go off around you, creates an atmosphere that you can believe in.Although I play all game modes, I tend to enjoy single player and couch co-op multiplayer the most. In WW2 single players are not ignored like in previous titles. There is a full and engaging single player campaign in which your character progresses through Normandy on D-day to the push in to Germany itself. From memory, there are about 12 chapters for the campaign and each is a decent length with enough challenges with varying difficulty levels to keep any player happy for a good while. Unless you are the type who will simply run through levels without taking in everything there is to see, you should get a good 10-14 hours out of single player which is an improvement over other recent COD offerings.A new ‘War’ mode in multiplayer almost bridges the gap between COD and Battlefield in that it offers a number of connected objectives that teams must fight to achieve. One example sees your team in a typical Normandy beach landing, fighting against the bunkers on shore to achieve certain objectives before reaching gun emplacements inshore. The other team is there to stop your advance and at ‘half-time’ the teams swap round. It’s an excellent mode and can make for some intense fire-fights.Zombies is also back with a more familiar art style to it, although again players have to work towards certain objectives as the hordes of zombies attack in waves.Graphically the entire game is excellent and in my opinion the return to WW2 is a welcome step in the right direction for the franchise. COW WW2 is far superior to the nonsense that’s been offered in recent years and I love it.I haven’t bothered with the in-game purchases which are simply designed to attract the brainless twits who are only interested in rushing to acquire the best equipment before anyone else. In multiplayer against bots, you can choose any weapon and any load-out you like from the start, and when online, all you need to do is ignore the cash cows and level up through your own experience. If you’re an offline player, none of the cash cow stuff will affect your game anyway.

For quite a few years, I had avoided the Call of Duty franchise after being consistently disappointed with their performance and the standard of their games. However, I decided to take a risk by purchasing this game at new enough full price from a different retailer and do not regret it one bit.The campaign on this game is absolutely fantastic, the only thing I would say is that it is too short and for that it is slightly saddening. However, I was really amazed with tiny details that were portrayed within the game and the graphics, especially the cutscenes were of immense detail and Incredibly impressive. I found myself being addicted to playing the campaign, which is probably one reason why it was completed so quickly, but I genuinely looked forward to getting home from work so that I could play a little bit more.Been a very strong Battlefield fan, I am slightly let down by the multiplayer if anything. I have always seen Call of Duty multiplayer as a fight in your back garden, but I have found enjoyment within this area and have played several hours with it so far in the few days that I have owned it. 1 area which has definitely been improved, and is much more enjoyable than it used to be, is zombies. The multiplayer is slightly different with this now, and you often start independently, with other players joining as you play. This is quite a unique concept, because you never really know how long you are going to spend by yourself. Sometimes you will be lucky enough to only do one wave by yourself, but sometimes you will find yourself being bombarded before you have any support from another online player. I have only experienced service shoes once so far, although I have purchased this game a fair time after the initial release so I am confident that any initial problems have been rectified by the time that I've purchased my copy of the game.To conclude, I would definitely recommend this game. The multiplayer does stick to the original roots of the old Call of Duty games, in the terms that you will find little campers camping in the corner of a room which does let it down slightly that the game mechanics do not prevent this. The campaign and zombies are definitely my favourite aspects of this game, and I am confident that you will find enjoyment within this game if you take the plunge yourself. Please feel free to ask me any questions that you wish to know reference this game. Happy shooting!

As someone that does not really enjoy multiplayer games, especially of the first person shooter cathgory, it would be understandable to question the purchase of this game for single player purposes.Indeed you should most certianly wait for a price drop before even considering getting it, as essentially you'll only play about 33% of the whole package. The single player campaign does the typical formula which we've now got used to in COD games, which is take control of a particular person to make the story more personal. In this particular story, we'll follow Daniels as the Americans (obviously, it's a shame the developers didn't decide to follow British soilders)through key moments such as D-Day and the liberation of Paris. It's a good story, one of the better COD ones in a long while, and for the kids who didn't just dive straight into multiplayer, is a good history lesson into the American/British efforts towards the end of the war. There is of course the usual massive cinemtic moments, but what made this more enajoyable, was there was a bit more thinking involved. This wasn't just a typical run and gun, find cover. The fact you now needed to find health kits rather than just hide in cover and let your man recover added a better dimension, and the special abilities of your comrades needed to be taken into account to move on in various sections.Whilst none of it was exactly brain taxing it made the effort less boring than some of the efforts which had come before. The campaign, whilst trying to grab as many acheivments as possible for me, lasted 13 hours. Far longer than your usual COD campaign which can usually be completed in half the time.As well as gunning on the ground, there's also the odd tank and plane missions which were also an enjoyable expierence which is not something you always used to get in COD games and was reserved more the battlefield franchise.Overall the single player campaign is enjoyable and refreshed enough to make it a return to form, it's now such a shame that this may well have been the final edition of COD to include a single player campaign as the most recent release Black Ops 4, does not include one.

I have played this since release and can't recommend it enough. After originally falling in love with Call of Duty 2 for the PC, this is the closest we have come to that simplified game that relies on player skill. The main area that people will want to hear about is the online multiplayer, and I have to admit it's been fantastic. I experienced the difficulties establishing/maintaining a connection during the first week or so of release but since then the gameplay has been smooth and responsive. I'm aware that there have been complaints about the quality of servers/connection however I've not experienced these issues myself, although I'm not sure if this is due to the quality of my broadband.I've always played the Hardcore game mode,as I like my games to be realistic and it's just that. The graphics and gameplay feel real, even if some of it's historically inaccurate (there's a map set in London despite the war never reaching British shores). One very small change that I think is great involves the Search & Destroy game type. You cannot be in a Chat Party with your team outside of the game when entering this game mode, which means that you can no longer help your teammates once you've died and equally you know that the other team cannot also. This makes it much fairer and now comes down the ability of the individual players and teamwork whilst you're alive. There are still areas that can be improved, mainly the variety of maps available online as they're all a similar size. I would also like to see the game made even simpler without reward packages or tokens and few modifications available to the guns/classes. This would promote player skill and avoid gaining an advantage from your particular setup. My only recommendation is that you play using a headset, as the sound is vital to this game. I've ordered the Sony PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 as using the normal TV speakers puts you at a real disadvantage. If you found this review helpful then please select the helpful option below. Also, if you have any questions then please respond below and I'll do my best to provide further information.

Call of Duty WWII is another classic call of duty title. It has a action packed multiplayer, the campaign is interesting and the zombies mode is fun, and of course beautiful graphicsThere is a wide variety of guns available within the game, and the individual class system adds some interesting game features, allow you to customise and mix up your gun choice and class. The gameplay is very much like previous boots on the ground Call of Dutys, except for the factor of it being based on the time of world war II - this is a nice addition due there being many titles recently based on modern or future scenarios. The option to go down a specific class route (each with its own perks and unlockables)adds more challenges for you to endure. The maps designed for this installment have a very good layout catered to all types of playstyles, and all look fantastic. Another interesting addition to this COD is the added feature of the HQ. This a social lobby for you to meet and interact with other players across the COD WWII community, set in third person, it is great to challenge and meet new people to play with. The campaign is an interesting story, and the gameplay feels very similar to previous boots on the ground Call of Duty's campaigns. The characters are likable and the voice acting is well done. The zombies mode adds a new element of horror which hasn't been seen in previous COD zombies. The design of the zombies are fantastically disgusting and the amount of scary experiences you can feel from playing are increased based on the design of the mode. There is a change to how the main story is solved, instead of trying to figure out steps to progress through the story of each map, there are steps shown and you must figure out based upon these hints. This is a step in the right direction, and has improved the gameplay, from my personal experience of this, it has been fun to solve this with friends working together. The zombies mode really does shine through in this game for coop.If you are looking for a new first person shooter to play Call of Duty WWII is a fantastic choice.

Call of Duty WWII takes the franchise back to it's origins, putting you in the boots of a private in a unit that lands on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, and with a campaign that takes you battling through France and into the heartland of the Reich. The campaign is a fun one as you and your best friend try to survive action after action whilst battling the German war machine, watching each others backs not just for the danger of bullets and bombs, but because your squad has a Sergeant for whom nothing ever seems good enough.Whilst most missions involve you playing the primary character battling on foot through the ruins of France, Holland, and Germany, there are various sections that either put you in vehicles of the era or are told from the perspective of other characters, such as sections where you get to drive a Jeep as you race to relieve a besieged unit, a German Mobelwagon in an attack on an armoured train, an M4 Sherman tank going up against the might of German Panzers, A P47 Thunderbolt on bomber escort duty, and a mission where you play a French resistance fighter infiltrating a German headquarters. All of the weaponry of the era - bother American and German - is represented, including the M1 Garand, Thompson sub-machine gun, Colt 1911 pistol, Browning Automatic Rifle, Panzerschreck, and MG42. You can carry any two infantry weapons at any given time.Graphically and in terms of sound and musical score the game is terrific. The cut scenes are movie level quality, and the plot gripping, although the campaign is relatively short (about eight to ten hours split over 11 missions), and the game requires a massive download of more than 50 MB with an additional 35MB update that took a frustrating three hours to complete before it will allow you to play any part of it.I'm not sure I would have considered it worth the money if I had purchased it at the original time of release, but obtaining it at this late date as I did for a very modest amount I've found it to be a game that has stood the test of time and which was well worth the purchase.

I grew up playing Call of Duty (and Medal of Honour may it rest in peace) which to show my age was always set in World War 2 in the beginning so it was great to see the title return to it's roots.Unlike other die-hard COD players I've not been as disappointed (or in total controller destroying rage) with the direction of the series into more futuristic realms (remember the reaction to Infinite Warfare which at the time the was one of the most down-voted video in youtube history) but I do prefer the World War 2 setting. The story line is pretty typical and just what you would expect of any World War 2 game (or film for that matter) produced in America.Although most of the time you can predict what is going to happen when it does it is still satisfying and well done. You end up caring about what happens to the main characters which always demonstrates good writing, acting and voicing as they are just pixels after all. Very nicely presented pixels but pixels none the less which leads me to...The graphics are amazing and the sound is equally outstanding and demonstrates just how good the XBOX One can be when used to it's fullest potential. Some of the guns do seem to be a little overpowered and some of their accompanying sound effects seem a great deal different from the same guns in other COD titles but this is a minor and almost negligible thing to mention (apart from when playing Multi-player and they shoot you with ease through hard brick walls with a pistol!)The Zombie levels are probably one of the best in the series. Really good fun with the usual blend of horror and darkly comic moments. Is it good value? Well that depends on what you paid and if you were happy to pay it. I do think games are way over-price anyway and if I can possibly wait long enough prefer to buy them second hand and at a lower price. If you got it at a price you were happy with you'll not find any complaint from the game.Read full review...

Call of duty goes back to its roots, and whilst not perfect its the best COD game to come out in years after many many Copy and paste games over the years.Set in WW2 the single player as always is fun, engadging and also tugs at the heartstrings here and there, They keep mosty to the tone of ww2 and dont try adding in anything that is stupidly unessacary. The Multiplayer is the usual core of the game. There is a ton of customisation and of course loot boxes and cod points. The loot boxes or points do not ruin the game as the items won or bought are purely cosmetic only. The maps are for the most part good and well rounded, That goes for the DLC maps too.I wouldnt say there is many maps that will go down as a ‘Classic’ cod maps apart from a handfull (Like London Docks) but they are all fun with many routes to take to flank the oposing team.annoying OP guns always make the rounds like the shotgun shells that sets you on fire and the riot shields (no idea why they added them in, people just abuse them).Overall this is a great package, Im not sure why people say this cod sucks because honestly it doesnt, and this is coming from a guy who left this stale franchise back when ghosts came out, I played a bit of blops 3, advanced warfare and infinite warfare but they were both highly forgetable and to be honest too much like halo. With the release of Black ops 4 iminent i reckon this will be a cod that people go back to later on down the line and say ‘this is actually a very good game’ just like many have done recently with ghosts.Graphics - 9/10Audio - 8/10Story - 9/10Multiplayer - 8/10Value for Money - 8/10

The campaign of this game blew me away, for the first time in many years it feels as if Call of Duty have gone back to their roots - no jet packs or exo-suits or special superhuman abilities or any nonsense, gritty "boots on the ground" game-play. This game further adds health packs as a key component of the campaign, which I think is fantastic as it adds to the realism of the war, (even if it only takes 2 seconds to deploy a bandage). The sound design is fantastic and the character development allows you to get to know each of your squad-mates. The multiplayer is much like every other Call of Duty game, with an unlock system in place - however this game adds a "hangout" like area, which is a little bit of a game changer and allows you to play around before you're in a match, I like this addition because it makes you feel more like a soldier and less like a player in a menu.Zombies mode is back, and grittier than ever, if you liked it in previous games, you'll love it in this one. When you put this into your PS4, however, you will be met with a large download. Players with slow internet be warned! This is nothing new, and I'm sure it's expected at this point, but it's a shame that the days of putting a disk in and playing are those of the past. If I were to fault this game, it would be that the load times can be slow and the grind to unlock weapons can feel long. I have only encountered one bug, which was solved by restarting the game, this was upon launch and selection of platoon in the multiplayer menu.4/5 - Gritty, yet arcade like and fun.

Hurrah! After several years now of being stuck in no man's land, Call of Duty has finally become playable again. I've bought Call of Duty every year since it came out on the PC in 2003, and this is the first version that's had me hooked since the Modern Warfare trilogy - MW3 came out in 2011 so that's roughly 6+ years of utterly terrible and unrealistic game play - until now.The game has gone back to it's roots and focuses on maps and weaponry that are acutally believable - no leaping 40 feet into the air as you do in the more recent versions like Advanced Warfare (call me old fashioned but I thought that the idea in warfare is to keep your head down). So far I've mostly played the multi-player mode on Xbox Live, but I have started the single player campaign and it too seems reasonably good. The care packages and rewards in multi-player mode aren't as exciting as MW2 or MW3, but it is World War 2 so you can't really expect to take control of an AC-130, but you can call in paratroopers or firebombing runs, or be rewarded with more advanced weapons like the flame thrower. The multi-player maps are pretty good too - typical scenes that you would expect from WW2, and although I haven't counted them, it does feel as though there are less maps that you normally get with Call of Duty.Overally, if you enjoyed the original World War 2 versions, or even the MW trilogy then you'll probably enjoy playing this game too.

I have played a few COD games in the passed and as of late thought they were far fetched piles of tripe! I started on Call Of Duty on the Xbox 360 and enjoyed the campaign on that. I next moved to Call Of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 and again I found the game good with good gameplay for the campaign (I'm terrible at online so I will leave it there!!) then came Advance Warfare, hmmm, for me it was showing signs of losing it's way with weird and wonderful gadgets and super jumps and wall runs for inhuman distances! Losing its appeal for me! Then one day I bought Black Ops III..........Oh dear Oh dear! I played for around half an hour then had to switch the Xbox One off and delete. Just too far for my liking.I then left the franchise alone for a while until I saw the trailers for WWII. It looked fabulous, graphics looked amazing on all platforms and I started to want it but still felt unsure. After a while I took the plunge when it was on Amazon for £38. So far the gameplay and graphics have been superb on my Project Scorpio Xbox One X and its a good single player experience. No far fetched malarky just a good WWII game. My only gripe with it is the "follow on screen button" combat scenarios, a little tired for this day and age I thought, could've left that out really!!All in all, from what I have played so far I like it and have given it 5 Stars. Although I am rubbish at these games but can play this one!!!

When I play a COD game it’s mostly just private offline matches against bots for fun , and on this score WW2 delivers perfectly, with some impressive atmospheric maps and beefy weapons . The much touted War Mode can also be played this way , so I’m more than happy . Throw in a fantastic campaign and some Nazi Zombies for good measure , and this is an awesome and complete package that’s likely to keep me entertained for a good few years !However ........ if competitive multiplayer is your thing then maybe this could leave you disappointed (and seems to be the reason for so many poor user reviews that I’ve seen around) . I dipped briefly into the multiplayer section of the game and it’s a mess ,particularly the headquarters social hub. Way too many options , menus , loading screens etc. Seems the streamlined easy online play of COD (and to be fair a lot of other games these days) is sadly a thing of the past these days. But as I’m approaching 50 , with slowing reflexes and poorer eyesight , I can gladly skip the online part of the game , and let the youngsters and pro gamers stress about score streaks , levelling up etc ........I’ll just enjoy this fun shooter offline - plus I can also grab a mate , a beer and a second controller for some real social competition and play split screen too ?
