got Call of Duty the first week it came out and I was extremely impressed by the whole gameFirst off,Story 9/10Story isn't much of a problem with these kind of games. But the story is you don the boots of three soldiers, an American, British, and Russian. All three campaigns litterally show a lot of promise, and I mean some amazing sequences but we'll go on with that later. As an American you are Private Martin, a British, Sergeant Evans, and as a Russian, a conscript Russian peasant named Alexei.Graphics: 10/10This game's graphics doesn't need a very good video card to run. I have a Radeon 9000 Pro, it runs like a beauty, lighting and shadows are very dark light they always are, fire emits light at a good range, lens flares look real and blinding, there are even facial expressions on soldiers, especially some of your Command Officers. They will look so real, they look just like a true human. Also the models look real, you will barely see any imperfections on the models except one or two things. Nothing looks like an oversized arm stapled on a 2 foot dummy. And you know how that will look.Sound: 10/10This is nothing like what you've heard. It's like candy for your ears. MG42's make the loudest noise in the game next to the tanks rolling by on it's tracks. The sounds are loud, real, and you can even hear some bullets ricochet pass your ears, and you know how that feels in most games. Each gun has it's own sound, you can hear the ping of an M1 Garand crisp and clear, the cock of a Thompson after you empty out an entire clip, and the voice work has been done extremely well. You'll hear your squad mates say ''Take Cover'', ''Grenade! Get down!'' ''Flank Right!'' ''Flank them!'', the voice acting is so good, you'll feel like your in a war with your own comrades, and soldiers, even if the characters you play as can't talk, you'll still listen to your C.O's and your squad mates debriefing you.Gameplay: 10/10There isn't much to say about the Gameplay. It's amazing! Even if the Scripted Sequences make some of your squad mates invulnerable for the entire mission, or for a time, you won't notice much since your gunning down the Germans with your Thompson or their MP44/Stg44. The A.I is great! Your squad mates will lean around corners, give cover fire, chuck grenades, they'll even whack some of the Germans when they get close enough. The Germans are also very intelligent, they will do the same exact thing as your squad mates, but with extreme precision, you'll feel like you in a real war, sometimes they miss like all soldiers, sometimes they'll act like seasoned veterans(which most of them are) and put a bullet between your eyes. It's variable. Their may be a bit of frustration here or there, but the fun factor is more than enough to counter that frustration factor unless your playing at Veteran or Hardened level.Multiplayer: 0/0This isn't much of a true factor, since all I've been describing is the Single Player. They multiplayer is pretty decent. There are a lot of exploits in the game, including the clipping, which you can see a good head or arm through a wall. Which gives you the rather unfair advantage of shooting their arm and getting an instant kill. There are also some weapon balance issues such as the PPSH spitting out 10 rounds in 2 seconds and killing a man within 9 rounds. Plus, sniping in this game is WAY too easy, it takes half the skill you would need to snipe in another game to snipe in this game. Overall, the multiplayer is on par, but if I had to score it, I'd say good, since it is fun after all, so if I had counted this, it would be 7/10.Overall: Average that out and we get the grand total of 9.75 which I round up to 10/10(Excluding the Multiplayer)! Of course there are some flaws here or there, but not enough to actually decrease the Game's Score.I can't say much more other than a few words, Buy it!

Call of Duty might just be the most authentic and engaging WW2 game you've ever played. Featuring 24 mission, split into 3 campaigns, players take on the roles of a GI paratrooper, a British commando and a russian conscript, taking the first-person fight to the Germans with a variety of weapons. So far, so Medal of Honor. Where this title raises the bar is in its full realisation of squad based combat, hinted at in other games but never before explored to this degree. Players fight alongside computer controlled squad mates, usually between 6-8 in number. The AI that governs your fellow soldiers is one of the most practical, robust and flexible I've ever seen in a first-person shooter.Your buddies will lay down supressing fire that actually WORKS (a very pleasant change), cover each other's movements, use grenades without blowing up the whole unit, and generally behave as realistically as you could hope for computer players.Thankfully the AI for the baddies is just as convincing. No longer do enemy soldiers bluster towards your rifles, hurling grenades with pin-point accuracy. In Call of Duty, they will advance in sqauds from cover, laying down their own supressing fire, lay traps and ambushes and even fall back to cover when overwhelmed. If a machine gunner gets hit, his buddy might choose to take over, or make a run for it. It gives a very rounded impression that you are flanked by real people, and facing an adaptive and versatile enemy. The real beauty of the title is that you are part of the team, without being the star of the show. Sure, there's times when its up to you to take the initiative, and maybe even save the day, but if your squad fails, you fail. When playing, I actually felt like covering my squad rather than dashing on ahead, protecting them rather than trying to ignore them. Likewise, I felt confident in their abilities to watch my back, without cringing in case a friendly grenade lands at my feet.Graphically, Call Of Duty is gritty, realistic and smooth, even at high resolutions. Explosions look great, with tanks going up in flames, while grenades produce a convincing burst of dust and fragmentation. Tracers wizz overhead, puffs of dust ricochet off walls, and wood splinters apart under machine gun fire. The scenery isn't fully deformable, but their is enough scripted demolition to keep things realistic. There's also some great additional touches that really round and polish the experience, such as the blurry 'shell-shock' that warps the screen when a explosion goers off right by your head, or the restrained mixture of blood and dust that marks bullet hits on your target.I found there was some loss of framerate when my squad found themselves in very close combat with lots of enemy soldiers, but the haze and confusion of the situation was such that I didn't really mind. The real star of the effects show is the sound, where the game really drags you kicking and screaming into its world. The weapon effects are sufficiently hefty and the bass from an MG42 will definately stop you in your tracks before its bullets do. Best of all, dialogue between soldiers is both contextual and practical - shouted warnings to seek cover really do make a difference, your officer's military jargon is clear enough to give you a good idea how to act in the middle of a firefight..."Shift base of fire right, FIRE!" barks my captain as a platoon of German Paratroopers bursts from cover, and I find myself hurling myself prone and rattling off rounds from my Thompson Carbine.Call Of Duty brings to the table the intensity of Medal of Honor and the epic scale of Battlefield 1942 with unsurpassed grace and conviction. A must for any WW2 gamer, and a splendid heart-thumper for any action game fan. Highly Recommended.

After the euphoria of Medal of Honour: Allied Assault, it is certainly stimulating to play a game that takes the player even further in the WW2 experience. Playing as either British, Soviet or American soldiers fighting the Germans in Europe, the single player takes you through a host of campaigns from Stalingrad to the capture of Berlin.Realism is given a further shove via interesting touches, such as the fact you can carry only limited weapons at any one time. When a shell knocks you down, the player is stunned for a few seconds; sight is blurred, sound recedes and you stumble about, trying to work out what's happening. Granted, it's nicked straight out of Saving Private ryan, even down to the sound it makes when you zip back to consciousness, but the effect is exhiliarating. The way you pick up weapons is great- when you prise a rifle from a dead Jerry, the amount of bullets in the clip is relative to how many he loosed off before he was dropped, so que a hasty reloading missing from the likes of Medal of Honour.Remember Omaha Beach? Well it comes away a bit damp compared to CoD's set pieces. And there are so many to choose from! there's the chaotic defence of Pegasus bridge, sighting down your Lee-Enfield as German reinforcements pour in; the nighttime assault on Saint-Mere Eglise, the attack on the 88s, the charge across Red Square as an unarmed Russian conscript and the storming of the Reichstag. But the best has to be the insane, desperate, last-ditch defence of Pavlov's Apartment, as hordes of German troopers seem to come from all directions, you're low on ammo, the rest of the squad is lying dead around you, the walls explode as tanks shell the place. As the house goes suddenly quiet you reload your pilfered mp40, and try to listen for where the Germans are, creeping around on the floor below. Before you know it the guns are going again, a grenade goes off next to you and as you turn around you empty a whole clip into three soldiers charging the position. In the tight corridor, they are knocked down screeming as the walls seem to rip apert from the bullets. As you can see, it's an experience that shouldn't be missed. While parts of the game go for the overblown hollywood route (the size of the blood spurts and the bursts of dust as the bullets hit the scenery will convince you that Peckinpah's spirit lives on), other parts are far more subtle. Playing on the Hardened or Veteran difficulty, where a couple of rounds will down you and health packs are rare, really changes the whole mentality you were used to in Medal of Honour. Note however, this is no Hidden and Dangerous clone either- You have no team of vulnerable troopers to command. You are, despite the company of your A.I. comrades, alone as utter chaos unfolds around you. in CoD, it's OK to run and hide, let others fight instead. You're no superman. While each mission always requires you to trigger an event to progress, there is no gung-ho feel to it. It is a unique and refreshing feeling.I have completed the game on all difficulties, but I still feel there is much to experience, and I can't help coming back to it. Thies game is quite simply amazing

I think all the other reviews have covered much of the merits of the single player side of this excellent game, but I thought I would add a little footnote on the multiplayer aspect. The thing that really struck me in my first online match was the superb level of balance. In MOHAA (and all of its expansion packs), it was always a case of 'use the submachineguns or die' in online matches. Riflemen and snipers don't stand a chance on pretty much any map, and this was a real shame for me as I prefer the 'one shot, one kill' approach. With CoD however, a combination of good level design and intelligent weapon balancing has really ironed out the problems of MOHAA - I could actually go on the offence with a rifle and (gasp!)expect to kill someone, without instantly get mowed down by hundreds of SMG bullets! To begin with, there is a good variety in map sizes (which are a lot more realistically sized than the MOHAA ones, which were all without exception, ridiculously tiny), meaning that on the larger, more open outdoor ones it is the riflemen who (rightly so) have the advantages. Some maps, such as the (town of) Carentin one, are a lot smaller and the short, narrow streets and short enemy exposures mean a higher rate of fire is the key. Then of course there are the (majority of) maps that combine the two, creating chances to rush in all guns blazing or hang back picking off lone enemies from a high window or patch of vegetation. This really throws people like me back into the fight, so now it doesn't matter whether you prefer to use deliberate, accurate rifle shots or whole clips of rapidly fired ammo hurled at anything that moves, everyone has their place on the battlefield.I must add that I played this over a broadband connection at a friend's house originally (worked perfectly with no 'lag' or hangups whatsoever), and over my 64k ISDN connection there is very little noticeable difference, with only minor patches of 'chugginess' and play slowing only after long periods of time. This means, however, that I am not aware of how it plays over a 56k modem. Although I shouldn't imagine it would be too bad, you should nonetheless expect the effects of my 64k connection to be exagerated slightly over a 56k connection.Once again this isn't a 'full' review, but I don't think the current ones do the multiplayer side of CoD justice. The action is intense, drips atmosphere, and caters for pretty much every kind of FPS multiplayer gamer out there. Two thumbs up.

We're now entering an age where PC GAMES truly are becoming jaw droopingly amazing, and Call Of Duty, in all respects, is simply 'The Best Of The Best'Call of Duty simply makes the MOH games look like something from the Stone Age!COD has everything an action gamer could want.I'm running a medium-high-spec machine, and the Graphics at a resolution of 1280*1024 are nothing short of stunning. The textures are very detailed, and the scenery in some missions is beautiful. The game designers really have put in unbelievable attention into the detail of some objects and scenes. There are a large variety of locations too, I won't ruin it for you by listing them...but that's coming from someone who is only half way through the game! The AI are very intelligent too, It's annoying when you turn around and find them ramming their weapon in your face! The sound, I'm running a 5.1 speaker setup, and It's the first game that seems to actually use surround sound. In some of the scenes, I could swear I was sitting in a room placed right in the middle of a battlefield! As another reviewer mentioned, the soldiers don't sound like some random programmer rambling on... they've got some excellent, realistic dialogue in the game too.I also love the variety of missions, and the experience of the fighting war as an American, a Russian... and I'm told there's a British section as well. (I'm only at the Russian bit at the moment)It's a pity they didn't include any doors in the game, but It's also helpful because you won't get easily lost in missions.I haven't tried multiplayer mode yet, but I'm told that it's a bit unrealistic because players jump around like rabbits (which obviously is a bit fake)And the ability to only carry a limited amount of weapons is good too.The game truly captures the chaotic and evil qualities of war, without sacrificing the realism of the game. I can't think of a game that beats this, it's unbelievably gripping, entertaining and addictive. Can I also suggest that you don't play the campaign with the easiest difficulty level? People always complain about how short games are, well If you actually give yourself a challenge it's much more fun and relieving when you complete levels. Trust me, if you want more realism, more fun and more of a challenge go for the medium difficulty.

Call of Duty is Activisions response to Medal of Hounour, and what a response. This is one of those rare games that slaps you in the chops with the amount of sensory input it throws at you and manages to keep up the pace throughout the entire game. Rarely has a game managed to capture the intensity and desperation of a full blown military battle, with the Pegasus Bridge mission being a perfect example. The game itself plays just like any other FPS, so if you like the Quake or Unreal games then you'll be perfectly at home here. There is the odd concession to realism though, for instance, you're accuracy suffers when you shoot on the move, your character cannot take a superhuman amount of damage and you get shellshock if you stand too near an explosion.Don't let this put you off though, effects such as the the shell shock only serve to heighten the experience, which is where this game goes for the jugular. It is obvious that this game has been produced with the utmost respect for the subject matter, and it is a very rare thing indeed that a game makes you grateful for the sacrifice those before us had made. I must confess to a little lump in my throat come the end of the game.It is not all gravy though. Most sections are over in a painfully quick amount of time, and the missions in which you are on your own are rather poor by comparison, but these are small gripes on what is an excellent game.Multiplayer hasn't been missed either, with the usual deathmatch and team deathmatch options plus some variants of counterstrike called Search and Destroy and retrieval. These are pretty much standard fare with one exceptional feature. When you are killed in Search and Destroy, the game plays back the last five seconds from your assialants viewpoint. This may not sound like much, but it can make all the difference to finding out cheaters and campers alike, and from what I've seen can make a big difference. Finally in summary, although there are some annoying faults in the game, these are swallowed up in the whole by some tasty action goodness, and when I say tasty, I mean boil in the bag tasty. If you're into your action games then this is one title that you should not be without.

Having devoured the demo of this game, I was eagerly anticipating the full game, and for once wasn't disappointed. Indeed the game itself exceeds just about all possible expectations. Developed by many of the orginal MoH team, this is a quantum leap forward from its illustrious predecessor. This is the game MoH Allied Assault always promised to be.Stunning graphics, incredibly dense, immersive sound, flawless weapons modelling, intuitive, responsive gameplay - even the scripted dialogue is pretty authentic, and often funny. Playing through American, British, and Russian roles, you experience a variety of combat situations, all peerlessly executed. The Russian probably takes the ultimate prize, with gripping running street-battles through the blasted ruins of Stalingrad and Berlin. Indeed the landing scene at Stalingard is this game's Omaha Beach, but it blows away that once great MoH mission. The Russian tank mission is even fun and well-modelled (unlike the appalling tanks in MoH)Not completely faultless - the game is probably too short (about 12 hours on the easiest setting, all told), and some of the action is perhaps overly-scripted and linear (like MoH), which may hamper repeated replay value. But the AI is perfectly modelled, with able comrades, and enemies who are challenge, but not invincible and infallible (like the snipers in MoH). The inventiveness of each mission never flags throughout, unlike MoHAA which ran out of steam after Omaha Beach, with the later battles poorly thought out and nigh on impossible. Unlike MoHAA, I managed to complete 'Call of Duty' on the easiest setting without resorting to cheats.I haven't tried to the Multiplayer game yet, but as a single-player game this is pure pleasure from beginning to end (indeed the end credits are fun in their own right, featuring a running battle between American paratroopers and German defenders, and the credits concluding with 'No cows were harmed in the making of this game'), this is the new benchmark for FPS, WW2 or otherwise. MoH Pacific Assault will struggle to match this (when it eventually arrives). Of to repeat play right now.'Call of Duty' - great gaming, genius. A work of art.

Medal Of Honour was good, but seriously overhyped, it didn't really give that feeling of being a soldier in a war, it was really just a good FPS nothing more... but Call To Duty is amazing, you really feel like you're one of many but don't let that think you can just avoid everything and let the comrades do everything for you. The pacing and story of the game is so good, its simply addictive gameplay... like watching a very long film. The game took me only around 8 hrs (normal difficulty) to finish, but let me tell you those 8 hrs were more action packed than virtually any game i've played recently, and i didn't not enjoy a single moment of it. But unlike other games i actually feel like playing through it again on Hard..i rarely do that because i feel i might as well play another game, but this was so good!!Presentation - like people say the graphics don't have any of those fancy lighting features of newer games or any fancy things that only the top spec machines can handle, but this is good news, because the game still looks VERY good and is clearly designed by professionals with attention to detail, and who have clearly cared to consider ALL gamers, even the weakest of PCs will run this with no problems.. i have 2.4ghz, 512MB, and 64MB Radeon 9000, and i was able to turn everything to MAX and have virtually no slowdown!!Sound - Seriously it makes a difference, the sound in this game is akin to that feeling when you played Saving Private Ryan DTS on your new sound system.. it really is that good.. make sure you have good speaker and sound hardware, because this is probably the best sounding game i've ever heard.. it will literally have you ducking your head!!While veteran FPS guys will be able to get through the game in one long afternoon, there is still plenty on offer here, lots of replay value and of course the excellent online play.. which i predict will become VERY popular in time.. for all those sobbing over the delay of HL2, pick up a copy of Call Of Duty, you will not be dissapointed!! definately in the Top 5 of this year for me!!if you thought the D-Day level from MOH was good, wait until you play the Stalingard level on this!!

Firstly I will start off by saying that I am very biased when reviewing FPS (First Person Shooter) titles as they are easily my personal favourite game genre. But I believe that anybody could really enjoy playing this game.A lot of people will be comparing this title to others such as the Medal Of Honour series and the recent release of Return To Castle Wolfenstein. I must admit that when I first played this I was ready to make the same comparisons. Boy was I wrong to do that!! This game truly blows both MOH and RTCW out of the water.Firstly the graphics are amazing, you will need a pretty hi spec PC to get the full gaming experience from this title but it is definitly worth it. Then there is the sound, once again Activision have gone into great detail and effort when trying to make you feel as if your actually in the game and they have pulled this off with outstanding results. Admittedly I do have a fairly good sound station with my PC but just a set of standard speakers with the volume turned up will be just as good. Finally the most important aspect, the game play. As with most war based games you do have the standard do this, go there, save him, shoot that type missions but you don't really care what type of mission comes next as you just don't want the action to stop. What I find most appealing from this title is that you are part of a squadron but you do not have to lead the squadron at every opportunity as the computer AI is top notch. With regards to the AI it really does seem to have taken a step further again with this title. Enemy's will actually duck, run for cover and hide behind obstacle's etc.. All of this makes for a game that isn't your A typical run and shoot everything in sight. You have to plan your attacks carefully with regards to flanking and helping other team mates. Also you will fail any mission you are currently playing if you were to kill a member of your own squadron. To sum this game up I would say if your a fan of the MOH series or any other war based FPS then this is a must have game. If you are only partially interested in these types of game then this title will make you love them!!!

I put off buying this for a while as there are so many good FPS games due out in the next few months. Finally I couldn't resist the rave reviews any longer and bit the bullet.I have to say this is the best games purchase I have made in a very long time. This game is packed with authenticity, attention to detail and outrageously brilliant gameplay. I just lapped this up - it's like being in a good war movie. The graphics are excellent, with a cracking game engine and it runs stable as a rock on my (2 year old) PC. Sound effects are fantastic, voice dialogue is quite well-acted and the variation in characters and NPCs is refreshing. I thought the high points of the single-player campaign were the Brecourt Manor assault (straight out of Band of Brothers)in the US campaign; the Pegasus Bridge assault and defence in the British campaign; and the highlight of all is the Stalingrad defence from the Russian campaign. The action is multi-layered, frenetic, and truly adrenaline-pumping. The only downside is that weapon sounds are so brilliantly rendered that if you have invested in a 5.1 setup, you will crank it up and let the room shake around you, resulting in partial deafness! (Sorry neighbours!)The greatest plus from the single-player point of view is that COD finally has cracked the problem which plagues previous squad-based games, namely the incomprehensible and erratic team AI (Battlefield 1942 the obvious culprit!!). In COD, your teammates take initiative, pick their targets and generally manage to stay out of each others' way and avoid blending with the scenery. Lead, and they follow, providing proper covering fire; alternatively, you can lag back a bit and they will clear a way ahead and provide holding positions for you to exploit. It is by far a superior game to MOH or BF 1942.I haven't tested multiplayer sufficiently to draw an educated judgement, but at this stage I feel that MOH Spearhead or RtCW (Enemy Territory) just about edges it in gameplay, although COD obviously looks and sounds better. This is a fantastic game that you will keep playing long after you've forgotten Medal of Honor. Buy this now!

The latest war role-playing game to hit our shelves is good competition for the most outstanding war game produced (namely Mdeal Of Honour and its expansion packs). The graphics are exellent, and there is great character interaction in the game. Taking on the roles of American, British and Russian soldiers you are challenged with some of the greatest mission tasks that occured during World War Two.....you have to re-take Red Square from the Nazis, infiltrate Stalingrad from the beaches, locate and rescue captured friendly soldiers, pose as Germans and infiltrate their warships during the night, and many many more exciting and difficult missions. This game has four difficulty levels so that if you are a beginner you can take it easy to start with, and if you are a real hard-core role playing gamer, you can go straight for the top. The game offers initial training in weaponry and character maneouvering so that you can get used to the quick and tricky movements. As you move up the difficulty levels, you are given more objectives to complete during the missions. One of the best things about this game is that there are so many things to do......its not a straight forward 'walk and shoot' game.....there are superb car and truck chases, you get to power a Russian Tank for an entire mission, and take charge of many many different and authentic weapons, ranging from different mines and grenades, to huge Anti-Tank missiles, Large explosives and Guns from all factions and manufacturers of the world.I think that the game loses one star because although it is realistic, there are certain things that are out of place. For example, if you shoot a member of your own squad, he doesn't get hit......perhaps they do in the higher difficulty levels, but starting low you could sit back and let your team kill everyone and just walk through..... :):) it is great fun, requires some gaming skill and will keep you entertained with many hours of gameplay.Enjoy!!!!

I bought this game after downloading the two single player demo's. I was amazed at the atmosphere of the game. explosions everywhere, and the sounds of both close and distant gunfire are brilliant. Anyone familiar with medal of honour will be blown away with this game. I bought this game with Battlefield 1942, which I found disapointing in comparison. Call of duty offers both single player and multiplayer games. The single player missions are superb, although the game feels a little short. Online, call of duty utilizes many of the single player maps and divides players into allied and axis forces, The maps are just the right size for plenty of action and hours of fun, however, some of the smaller multiplayer servers are rife with cheaters, using wall hacks (they can see and shoot you through walls), aimbots (automatically guarantees that every shot fired hits an enemy) among others including script mods for godmode, flying etc. Even the latest 1.4 patch (with 'punkbuster') does little to block these hacks. Thankfully the larger servers usually have a policy of kicking out cheaters. A lot of the people on the servers are members of clans, which basically means that they all play together on the same server at the same times. They are usually very well practiced as a team, and the game can be quite frustrating at times, you could probably join one of the clans if you're good enough (Not my cup of tea) Multiplayer is definitely worth a go, you'll get a feel for which servers are best for you and which ones to avoid, it's quite interesting in the early hours, where you may be on a server with just a handful of other people from around the world, you can talk to other players using the text bar at the top of the screen.Overall a brilliant game, just watch out for those cheaters.

As I was playing this game, shooting at German positions during the Battle of Stalingrad I found myself so completely exhilarated, so involved in the action, in awe of the completeness of the scenarios that I uttered the words aloud "This is the best game ever made". I have not played every game ever made so I should rephrase it as the best game I have ever played. If you've got £26 burning a hole in your bank account get this game, no ifs, no buts it is simply awesome. The only thing I can say against it is it is too short in the single player mode although the sheer work and effort that has gone into the battles and scenarios that there are I find it difficult to really hold this against them.Perhaps the difference in the difficulty levels could be greater as I played on every level and completed the game quite easily once I'd sussed it out on the Greenhorn level. But these are minor gripes and should be rectified when (please!) they release some add-ons. By far the best part of the game are the Russian levels which truly reflect the greater intensity of fighting and German resistance than on the Western Front - as an Eastern Front enthusiast I am a little biased but they are excellent. The game takes more than a little influence from the Enemy At The Gates movie about Stalingrad and also quite a bit from the Band Of Brothers mini-series about American airbourne troops. This is not a criticism as both were excellent and largely accurate portrayals of actual events. It would perhaps have also been brilliant in the single player game to be able to be the Germans and would certainly have added another dimension to, as already stated, quite a short game. However COD is an absolutely thrilling, adrenaline pumping gaming experience and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Ok, well firstly the good stuff, this is the game we all hoped it would be when we played the demos, from the first mission to the last, there are no duds, each one is enjoyable and beautifully put together. The basic format of the missions remains largely similar to Medal of Honour, but the execution is much better, the graphics are quite frankly jaw-dropping (I was killed several times because I was too busy admiring the scenery),the game is wonderfully atmospheric and just kind of draws you in (to the point where I actually found myself humming "Ride of the Valkyries" during one of the tank missions) and even mission types I found particularly irritating in MOH (the on-rails machine gun missions for example)are pulled off so slickly that they leave you grinning like an idiot. Another nice point is that you play as soldiers from the American, British and Russian armies, rather than the purely US-centric approach of MOHAA.They've also learnt from the mistakes of MOH and have worked to remove the really irritating aspects that spoilt that game, there are for example, no annoyingly bulletproof Germans, no having to reload a gun before you can hit someone with it and no idiotic squadmates determined to get themselves killed (despite it being your job to protect them), the level of difficulty is pretty much spot on and you never feel hard done by when you lose. The gameplay is superb, it's spot on, the only reason I'm not giving it full marks is that it really is just far too short, yes, there are 24 missions, all of which have obviously had a great deal of work put into them, but each one rarely lasts more than about 10 minutes and even with mistakes you could easily finish the game in less than say 8 hours of play time.Roll on the first expansion.

This game is the best WW2 game I have ever played and definetly one of the best games of all time. It is made by the lead designers who made Medal Of Honor, who broke away from EA Games so they could put all there effort into making the perfect game, and not drip feed mission packs like EA tend to do. You play the game from three different perspectives. First a US soldier, then an British soldier and finally a Russian. The three parts intertwine and make you feel like a small part of a much greater whole. And you play missions from ever WW2 film ever made. From rescuing people from a POW camp, sabotaging a damn, coming down in a glider and holding a bridge in operation Market Garden and infiltrating a battleship to Enemy Of The Gates style sniping in Stalingrad, the missions are diverse and most importantly SO much fun. And there are no infuriating bits where the AI 'cheats' like the snipers ally level in Medal Of Honor. You are usually fighting alongside AI team mates, and they never get stuck behind the scenery, walk into walls or any other glitches that usually occurs in older games. They will lay down suppresing fire and act like they should. It really is a breath of fresh air. The sound of war is the best that has ever been in a game. Bullets whizz by, explosions all around and a stirring musical score all add up to an imense experience. If you consider yourself a gamer, you need this game. It is a true classic and goes right to the top of the all time great games. The only minor cirticism I could make, and it is a minor one, is that it is not the longest game I have ever played, but there is not a single bad level in the game so it does not really matter.
