most large production blades today are designed for the buyer looking to chop and baton. Thankfully Cold Steel realizes there are other users out there. This blade is light and fast, has lots of grip and comes in a solid ultarian sheath. This is not a lot of things but it is great at what it is. The blade is wonderfully designed to slash and the point is at an appropriate plane to the handle for stabbing. My purpose is a light, larger backpacking blade. It's so light you won't know it's there but is wickedly sharp if needed. AUS8 is easy to sharpen and maintenance free on the trail. Now I'm talking about a hiking/backpacking blade not a go forth a build a wooden civilization in the forest tool. That's called a chainsaw and axe. Carrying a foot long 1/4 to 3/8 chopper while modern backpacking is just too heavy for what you really need. So for anyone wanting a big but light knife that has a blade designed for cutting, slashing, stabbing and has a non-slip grip this is a good choice. inexpensive and solid for it's purpose. Fit and finish is not as nice as I would like, the grind is a little off, lanyard tube not set even. However it's a $60 knife not a $200 one and most Cold Steel are user, fun knives not show knives.Having used this for several months now it continues to impress. Chops limbs surprisingly well. It can whittle and just about anything I have asked of it. Took on trip to Maine and used it to split up small kindling, make cooking sticks, cut food etc. This morning was limbing 1" frozen walnut single stroke, even took down a couple 3-4" trunks (clearing path and was using axe but couldn't resist) It cuts deep and had NO blade chipping in hard wood.

I own one of these and have purchased two as gifts. When my friend's dad saw it, he called it a 'demon blade'.Beastly blade, pierces meat effortlessly, tip is like a needle. Came face-shaving sharp out of the box.Handles well enough to move with great rapidity and perform repeated thrusts, but can deliver bone-splitting power strokes swiftly as well.My two buddies and I all took our Marauders out to a bamboo forest to test them out. We could get one wrist-sized bamboo stalk consistently, a smaller one only needs a snap cut. When making a good cut, we could sometimes get two and a half stalks with a single slash. Turned my edge during this, and got some very minor chipping from a wild swing, but sharpened them out my Spyderco Sharpmaker, knife is back to shaving sharp. None of my other friends chipped their blades, just some edge-turning(the blade retains functional sharpness even after whaling on bamboo) which is easily sharpened out. After testing them out on bamboo, my confidence with the knife is up 100%, I'm absolutely sure of the blade's capability to take a hand or perhaps an arm. I'm sure this knife could even decapitate an animal the size of a pig with one swing.Just a note: The secure ex sheath can slowly dull your edge if you do not take care to use proper removal and insertion technique. Always press the spine of the knife against the sheath as it's inserted or removed and you won't have to bother honing it up for that reason.

My only complaint, I wish the swedge were sharpened. This isn't a bowie you use like an ax. It's extremely fast handling and easy to wield. I can't imagine why anyone would buy a 9 inch bowie as a skinning knife but with a near continuous curve I'm sure that all but the most clumsy could use it as such. It's quite clear in all of the photos and literature on this knife that the entire handle is a single injection molded piece. So if that fact has somehow escaped your notice, be aware. Cold steel makes several outstanding heavy bowies. I purchased this one fully aware of all the specs. It's relatively light considering it's size. That and the balance are what make in so quick in the hand. It's everything I had hoped it would be and has become my "Woods EDC" knife. Of course I carry a hawk in the woods too... Do yourself a favor and research this and any product you buy so that you are an informed consumer. At $77.00 dollars I couldn't pass it up and I'm glad I didn't!

Great, light, super sharp bowie with a fantastic no rattle sheath that will retain the knife securely even without the removable keeper. The cons - the clip is not sharpened at all. Even a very obtuse edge angle would be better than none at all on a fighting bowie. The other con is the guard and subhilt. It's not the hard rubber material - let's face it, the chances a of getting into a knife fight are a million to one in the civvy world and the chances of successfully parrying another knife with the guard no matter what it's made of is equally remote. It's the shape of both. The guard points slightly backwards while at least the top half should be pointing forward and the sub hilt is just a bit uncomfortable but mainly severely limits the grips you can quickly shift to.I'll probably end up modifying both. Other than these minor complaints, this is probably the best bang for the buck traditional bowie in the Cold Steel lineup.

I absolutely love this knife. It is little too large to use for every day cutting jobs. However, it is perfect for use as a camp knife or a hunting knife. Like all Cold Steel products it is not a toy or cheap flea market ggarbage. The blade comes shaving sharp and is virtually indestructible. It is a perfect shape to field dress animals after a hunt, and it is thick and heavy enough to use as a chopper for clearing brush and even small trees from your camping area. The handle is tough and has a nice easily gripped texture. My only complaint is that the handle is a little on the small side. But I have larger hands so it is something I am used to. All in all it is a tough handy knife for a hunting or camping setting. And like every other Cold Steel product I have, if it isn't abused or subjected to inappropriate use, it should last a few lifetimes.

This is a bowie, plain and simple, reduced cost by using rubber guard, but this knife is easily worth twice the cost, the rubber guard is troubling in a fighting knife but can be replaced for the die-hards(you can't have cost savings without choices, this being one of them),I like the sub-hilt, takes a little getting used to but gives you a positive grip,it does take a slightly different hand position but I can see how this style was popular as a fighting design, excellent steel, nice rubber grip/handle, sharpens easily enough, I love these kydex sheaths, esp. when they grip the knife properly, as this one does,I can think of things I would do differently but for the $$ this production knife is areal winner from Cold Steelsunaj

got my cold steel marauder knife and it is a sexy bowie. I am very impressed with this knife. it came razor sharp without any imperfections in the steel. I am more impressed with the handle once I got it in my hands. what the pictures and description doesn't tell ya is the where your index finger goes the material is a flexible but yet strong rubber/plastic material. the index tab prevents your hand from sliding down the knife and also is flexible enough to absorb some energy in a stabbing action. instead of a hunk of metal for your hand to bottom out on potentially damaging a finger. very impressed with this cold steel knife.I would recommend it to anyone looking for a medium to large size bowie knife.

Love this knife . Great grip and Aus 8 tempered just right for a balance of edge retention, durability, and rust resistance. Some people may dislike the lack of a brass guard. I am actually thankful it does not have one to help save on weight. This knife is light and yet an effective chopper and great for combat as the blade handles fast in hand. This is good for camping or tactical applications. For Bushcraft it will suffice. But you would be better off with something in the style of a Trail master or SRK. For all the bozos leaving bad reviews over the rubber guard. Why the hell did you buy it to begin with? Read product descriptions and look for products suited to your taste.

I have come to expect high quality products from Cold Steel and boy did they deliver with the Marauder. For the price of this knife you get a huge bang for your buck. The Marauder arrived to me razor sharp and after several months of hard use it has only needed to be honed once. I was very surprised at the cutting power of this knife for its light weight; it easily cut through a tree branch some 4-5 inches in diameter. If you are looking for a good all around fixed blade this will undoubtedly stand up to any task you set before it. I strongly recommend picking this bad boy up and seeing its amazing cutting power for yourself.

It’s a big knife. That’s exactly what I wanted. I think it’s a little weird that the quillions of the guard and the sub-hilt are rubber. Other than, that I have no complaints at all. It’s a Cold Steel knife so if you’ve ever owned one of their products you know what to expect. It’s razor sharp and will stand up to pretty much any abuse you throw at it. It’s decently comfortable in the hand but could maybe use some modifications if you have larger hands. If you want a big freakin’ bowie knife for a good price that isn’t a cheap piece of crap... this is what you want.

not bad for the price . the quality is decent1st the edge is very sharp out of the box mine has small area of tip that is not perfectly balanced.2nd the handle i like it has a very good grip and wont rotate in the hand like some of military style knifes with a round handle3rd finish is decent mine has a small point mark in the blade where it looks like the Rockwell was testedoverall i wanted one large knife for my collection but did not want to spend a fortune I am not going to be using it to baton wood but i am sure it could in a emergency .

I'm thoroughly impressed by the Marauder. The quality is everything you would expect from Cold steel. Although large and unwieldy for many task requiring a smaller knife, this knife is lighter than other similarly size Bowie. I also own the Tops Prather War Bowie and I would place the Marauder on par with the Prather Bowie which retails for 3 times as much. The Maurauder sheath is top notch. I wish the Prather Bowie had come with the same type of sheath. I love the Marauder and will probably by a few more as gifts.

This, like other things I have from Cold Steel, appear to be good quality. The knife "snaps" in and out of the sheath, which is a good safety feature. It is very sharp, easily passing the paper-slicing test. This is not a complaint, but one thing that is a bit strange is that the sheath has a lot of oil in it, which seems unusual for a stainless steel blade. Stainless steel usually is best when exposed to the air. Just be prepared to wipe the oil off the blade if you don't want it on what you are cutting.

Excellent Bowie! 9" blade, 3/16 thick. Not too heavy. Super sharp. Handle is not as beafy as the BK's but very cofortable in the hand. The Kydex sheath is unique because of the way it secures the knife guard with two flaps of the kydex sheath. There is still a slight rattle. Since kydex is known to dull knives I decided to make my own leather sheath using the "Two flap securing system". See pic. This Bowie has become one of my favorite fixed blade.

I have collected a number of knives over the years and like some more than others. I believe this knife would rank in my top 5 favorite knives. I am not a knife fighter and the only person I have ever cut with one is myself! However, if I was ever forced to use a knife in a fight, I believe this would be the one I would pick. It has a large, nicely shaped bowie blade, is very light and handles very well. I was very pleased with it.
