I bought this item to support a small video camera (Panasonic TM-700) in a portable hand-held steady rig I made. For this weight of camera - it's OK . . . just! I have also tried it with a heavier camera (Canon digital SLR) with a standard lens - and again - it just about copes OK. Its certainly won't support my SLR with any heavier lens. If you want a really well made - professional looking and feeling ball-head to support a small compact camera or a small video camera then this is for you. The adjustment is easy and positive and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another for the same purpose if I needed one. I did quite a bit of shopping around before I bought this one through Amazon and the price is extremely competitive.

Excellent value head; would recommend. I very much like the look of this head. Not suitable (in my opinion) for larger cameras or even compact dslr's as in the specs.... I am using it with a canon ixus 220hs; so it seems great for light point & shoot cameras. Why 4 stars?... the fixing plate to camera lacks a cork or rubber surface.... so needs to be installed fairly tight; also the friction knob sticks a bit and seems a little bit reluctant to release when cranked up firm....minor points. An excellent ball-head for travelling light with a monopod etc. or use with a lighting stand/ flashgun....seems sturdy and well made.

Have only had this item for two days but have alreadyused it twice. Purchased for use with a monopod andvideo camcorder. Used without tightening the screwto give flexibility when panning. Perfect fit and can beleft attached to the monopod even when packed into itsplastic sleeve. Very light and unobstrusive. Only timewill tell if it will withstand frequent use. Probably notsuitable for a heavy camera and lens kit.

I have been very happy with this. I am using it with a video light and hama light-stand, and it is perfect.I saw that another reviewer had a problem with the metal insert roatating. The thumbscrew at the side, that locks the ball, also locks the insert in place.This thumbscrew MUST be tightened fully, before the adaptor is screwed onto the tripod, or removed.
