Firstly at the time I write this 70cl is 24 quid a bottle. At 45% and with a quality that shines through I'm sure if Makers Mark were twice that price and harder to get hold of it would be not just getting the popular vote but also the connoisseurs too.Put simply, you cannot ruin a glass of Makers Mark. As a fan of single malt scotch I am used to the temperamental nature of many single malts where even one drop too much water can genuinely spoil the flavour.I find Makers Mark goes great with ice, just what I was after when the mood takes me as an alternative to the Laphroaig's and Ardbegs of this world. It's not that it needs the ice to cover flaws, this Bourbon is fine neat and at 45% a good abv.It just goes so well with the ice, and best of all, mistreatment that would definitely ruin many whiskies seem to not be a detriment to Makers Mark.I have found it still to be good even after committing the cardinal sin of allowing way too much ice to melt in it, a sin that would drown many other whiskies rendering them flavourless and undrinkable. Not so Makers Mark.I cannot profess to be up on Bourbon but Makers Mark is a very easy to get along with drink that is both reasonably priced and consistently good.

Being as it was a gift from my brother a much more knowledgeable man in the world of whiskey. I was intrigued when he said he had bought me this. I've read of this whiskey in the occasional novel and didn't quite know what to expect. As soon as i opened the bottle, I knew that it was something special. Although made since 2005, by the same company who produce Jim Beam, the taste is much softer and mellower, and the last drop, almost a year after the first drop certainly felt even more special. I definitely got some chocolate and vanilla, with a smidgen of ginger notes. The relative smoothness of this whiskey or "whisky" as the bottle denotes is apparently down to proportion of red winter wheat instead of the more common rye (whiskey pages.com).DO NOT drink with ice. DO NOT mix. I myself, prefer a small splash of water, as i don't drink that often. Great Value whiskey for the price. I would definitely recommend it to malt whiskey drinkers as a change as its relative smoothness will be a very pleasant surprise.

Absolutely gorgeous. I don’t usually drink Bourbon and I would never touch a Jack Daniels but this makers mark is lovely. The nose gives off a woody oak and butterscotch. The taste is of butterscotch, a charred oak, and sweet honey. It’s very smooth to drink and has a long lasting taste. Personally I would never add anything other than a drop of water to whisky. Which I know I might upset some people when I say I don’t like jack daniels but personally I stay well away from any whisky that needs to be mixed with something other than a drop of water to be enjoyed (mainly getting at the jack Daniels and coke fans, sorry). This Bourbon comes at 46% ABV so my first glass I added half a tea spoon of mineral water to a double measure. The second time round I didn’t add any water and drank it straight and found it still to be incredibly smooth and more enjoyable. It’s got a very spicy, charred wood taste that lingers And I would say that is what you will predominantly taste.

I have finally found a nice bourbon I can drink without any mixer! This is my favourite now and I have certianly tried a few, Jack/Bulleit/Jim bean/woodford reserve/Buffalo/gentleman Jack/wild turkey/knobs creek I have even had the Makers Mark special 46 and the original is still my favourite. I used to mix coke with my whisky but over the last few years I have gotten used to the taste on its own and finding a nice bourbon to do that with is great as now a bottle can last me longer rather than drinking it like pop with coke ect......The bottle has a nice look to it but I'm not a fan of it being a screw top rather than a cork (might just be me lol) The taste is very smooth and a very easy drink to have.Amazon always have this on a good price around £25, best I have seen the price is £23 so keep eye out for the offers, beats going to Tesco or Asda.

This is a great bourbon and about the only 'wheated' bourbon easy and cheap to obtain (in the UK anyway). (For those who don't know, bourbon is made from mostly corn, but there is usually another grain included to add flavour; most use rye, but this uses wheat which makes it somewhat unusual.)I won't bother with tasting notes, as they are subjective, but I will say this is very smooth and a lovely bourbon. You can often get it at c.£23, which is good value for the quality you get. The hand-dipped bottle looks great too, if that's important to you. This is definitely worth having along side your other bourbon(s) so you can compare the profile. In the same price bracket I'd recommend

I've become a big bourbon fan and still trying loads others. My favourite ones are Gentleman Jack, Bulleit and Devils Cut. I've tried many others but I had wanted Makers Mark for a while and when it was on offer I decided I'd buy it. It is a very nice drink but not the best out there, the taste isn't strong and I drink all my bourbon with Coke Zero but tried straight before hand, a double shot of this and some coke makes it hard to taste it as others you know you've got whisky in there. If you haven't tried this then it's worth a shot but I'd definitely recommend the 3 I listed as my favourites. Got myself Wild Turkey 101 as well but not yet opened it.

I was first introduced to this in New York. I normally only drink Scotch whisky as I like a smooth drink that I can drink neat. I find that I am only able to tolerate most other bourbons with a mixer.Maker's Mark is completely different to any other bourbon I have ever tasted, it is very smooth, slightly sweet (vanilla taste) and very moorish! A word of warning - it is 45% rather than the usual 40%.I bought this whilst it was on promotion but even the regular price is excellent value as it is usually £30 elsewhere and I rarely see it on offer.I have samples to several of my friends who had not heard of it before and they all agreed it was superb.

Well as a liker of single malt Scotch, this is a bit of a change of pace for me. Compared to the equivalent drinks from Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, this is worlds apart. Far superior. It still have a bit of a rough edge to it compared to a good single malt but that is to be expected.JD and JB are basically now mixing fodder. Or heavily on the rocks. This however can be sipped neat or with a drop of water and not embarrass itself like the other brands. Sure it is slightly more expensive but not shockingly so unless the other brands are on offer. Even if they are on offer this is still worth the extra.

This is my first time having bourbon and it was a very enjoyable experience, the first time if you are new to it i would advise to have some water at room temperature to take away some of the harshness.45% for me is quite strong and the first drink felt a little harsh but still tasty, however the next time i had some ice with it and it was just enough to temper the fire.It smells divine consisting of honey, toffee, oak etc and tastes really good. Its sweet but not overly so,i will definitely be trying another bourbon for comparison but will buy this again also.Very good deal i bought it for about £23.

The latest of what I'd describe as great bourbons that I've tried! I'd heard really good things about it, some people marking it up as the best there is out there, and whilst I wouldn't quite go that far it's certainly worth fair praise...Delicious, if you're a fan of good bourbon whiskey then I can't see how you wouldn't like this... If you've never tried bourbon then this would be a great introduction into it. It's lovely to sip neat, there's no ice or water needed IMO. Beautiful aroma, great body and fabulous flavour, yet another bourbon that I'll definitely revisit at some point!

This is currently my favourite Bourbon and has been for many years. I have also tried Rowan's Creek and Willett Pot and I have a bottle of Bulleitt on order just in case, with Eagle Rare on my saving-up-to-buy list - but, at the end of a day on the ale with the lads, a slug of this with ice (sorry, purists) is very refreshing and remains my default setting. 'Wheated' Bourbons like Maker's Mark are in the minority. You might want to read about the different styles of Bourbon before committing ... and as you do so, be prepared to groan when you see the lower prices they pay in the US!

Other than "home brew",Makers Mark is the BEST of Kentucky bourbons. What ever you do, DON"T use ice! Don't know what crackpot recommends ice in the description for Makers Mark.Good bourbon should always be served neat, never iced, and never use as a mixer.Use the cheap stuff for mixing or on the rocks. If you come to Kentucky and drink bourbon on the rocks,we'll escort you to Tennessee where you can drink sour mash on the rocks! Also, don't use a glass........we drink it straight from the bottle! ENJOY! Don't drink irresponsibly.....drink straight from bottle!

I’ve always been a big fan of the bottle design of this iconic bourbon. It’s got some punch to it at 45%, but remains smooth - certainly warms the chest when neat though.Lovely sipping whiskey over ice though, which is my preferred method for MM.I have made a couple of Old Fashioned’s with it, which works nicely but it’s a straight up sipping whiskey in my book.Personally, I don’t think it works as well as other options with Cola or Ginger Ale, but that might not be the case for you.

An excellent Bourbon Whiskey. Stronger than me 45% proof. Good price for £25.00 a bottle so I brought two. Shame I have finished one bottle already. And I was only giving myself small measures at a time. It is moreish so one leads to another. I like the wax effect over the seal of the bottle. I peeled very carefully so the wax effect remained on the cap of the bottle. I don't really want to chuck the empty away but I still have an unopened bottle. But I wonder how long for?
