Libratone are onto a winner bluetooth speaker here. It's packaged extremely well. Reminiscent of unboxing a new iphone. This copies the entire experience down to the minimalist user manual. However the boxing isn't the only place it shines. The Unit itself is a lovely fashionable green colour. I'm not a bright colour person, but I would have no issues turning up with this device under my arm. The unit itself is covered front and back in a nice Caribbean green cloth. The outsides are a thick scratch resistant rubber. There is a touch sensitive button on one side of the speaker that you can use for volume control and play/pause. This is supposed to be context sensitive and allow you to skip tracks, fast forward songs etc. But I couldn't figure out how to do this even after updating the firmware. And that the problem, the manual neglects to tell you how to do the simplest of things. Charging for one. I had to sift through 2-3 reviews online to figure out how to charge the thing. And I read the enclosed manuals twice. It's actually a hidden flap next to the power button on the face of the unit. Secondly, I couldn't figure out how to change the handles that are included. You get a lock style handle and a long handle strap. It took 15 minutes to figure out that you can slide the outer rubber enclosure completely off the speaker unit. Again no mention at all in the manual. Doh.So a few initial drawbacks, but how is the sound? Simply put amazing. I've never heard this quality of sound from free standing speaker units. I've heard bad speakers, speakers that sound alright and speakers that I previous to trying this unit, I thought were good. This simply puts them all to shame. Everything is super clear and crisp. Bass is pretty good despite the fact it's the weakest part of the sound, it's still miles ahead of any other free standing blue-tooth speakers I've used. Not to mention the range is excellent. I'm able to be around 8-10 meters away with line of sight and still get a solid connection from my iPhone. I love how the two sided speaker design allows people to get a good sound whichever side of the speaker is facing them. I've found that the best sound is when you're facing the touch sensitive controls, but only when comparing to the back. Under general use, the sound is great from any angle. For the price, it's insane.Battery life is alright. The unit is quite heavy and much bigger than I was expecting, but appreciated given the exceptional sound. I would not hesitate to recommend this. And would love to get another at some point to chain them up for what I can imagine would be an amazing stereo experience. The first time you pair an iOS device, you're asked to install the Libratone software. This isn't really needed unless you want to pair speakers together. You can listen to radio stations within the app, but it basically replicates features you can get from the music app. The app also will notify you to install firmware updates. There's no description of what the update contains, but there's no harm in installing the latest. In all, at the moment, this is the best sound I've heard from a bluetooth speaker. It will seriously impress you if the bluetooth speakers you've been listening to are within the sub £100. Yes the battery life isn't amazing but 12 hours is more than enough for occasional use. And the finicky touch sensitive controls are not deal breakers as much of the time you'll be controlling functions from your phone or connected device.

The Speaker comes in a plain brown cardboard box with protective packing. Inside that is the white, display box containing the speaker. Inside the white box are the speaker and a corded, USB-B to micro USB cable. The micro USB end connects to the speaker to enable it to charge. Also inside the white box is a small envelope containing two instruction leaflets, each in five languages, and a safety instruction leaflet.Of the two instruction leaflets, one covers the features, the other, the Bluetooth setup. All the instructions are extremely minimal. No mention is made about charging the speaker. The instruction to display the battery indicator says to "tap the power button" where in fact you needto click the button once the speaker is turned on.The Speaker is larger and heavier than I was expecting. It weighs 580g and measures 20cms long, 5.5cms top to bottom and 6cms front to back. The Speaker itself is beautifully made. It feels very comfortable to pick up and hold. The top, loop handle and base are made from a non-slip silicone. The speaker area is covered by a fine, knitted fabric. Behind the fabric is a solid surface so you do not feel than you will crush the speakers when you grab the speaker. The whole unit feels solid and sturdy.Below the loop handle is a cover that flips open to reveal the micro USB connection and the AUX female jack. On the top of the Speaker are two buttons: the clickable power-on button and the touch sensitive volume controller which is also used to activate the Bluetooth pair. Tapping the volume button can also play and pause sound or answer and end a phone call. When the Speaker is turned on the Nightingale bird symbol on the volume button lights up white. Moving your finger around the edge of the circle adjust the sound and a series of tiny white LED dots show the level of the sound. There is an attractive power-on and shutdown sound that gives the Speaker a friendly personality. There is a left and right stereo sound given out by the single Speaker unit. The volume of the Speaker can be controlled from either by the Libratone Too or by the device streaming the music.I've had no problems pairing the Speaker to an Android phone, a Chromebook and a Windows 10 computer. To pair the Speaker with a device, you touch the volume button on the Libratone Too for a few seconds to set it into pairing mode then, on your device, select the Libratone in the device's Bluetooth menu. The two then automatically pair. The process worked flawlessly for me.The enclosed, rechargeable battery in the Speaker lasts a long time on a single charge. I used the Speaker, playing audio at about 30% volume, for 4 hours non-stop and the fully charged battery had gone to 80% charge and the end of the session. The Speaker gives a very enjoyable, rich, clear and clean stereo sound. I am delighted that it works with any of my Bluetooth enabled devices and will play the audio from any app or program, and will output the audio being played from any video or music streaming services from the device which is connected to the Speaker at the time.

I'm not usually one for Bluetooth speakers, mainly due to quality and battery life in cheaper units. However, I was persuaded to give the Libratone One Style a go and was pleasantly surprised.First and foremost, I should probably mention the size of the speaker. Initially I thought it was going to be massive judging by the box that it came in and the slight weight to it. Once I had removed all the packaging it appeared to be around the size of a decent book, although slightly weightier. As I've used it more and more the size is less of an issue and actually seems in line with the size of other portable radios and such. The speaker itself stands up with the sound coming out of both sides, this can be an issue if the speaker falls over or if you place it down flat on a surface. If you plan on using this outdoors then you'll need to find some even ground to stand it on otherwise it will likely fall over thereby affecting the sound output. Standing it on a table or other surface in the house is fine and you can hear the sound from both sides of the speaker equally as well.It also features a carry handle which is more of a loop that you can fit one or two fingers through to carry it from place to place. That's about all it's good for so you won't be able to loop it round anything or fit your entire hand through for a better grip. The loop is attached to the speaker so you can't remove it, nor is it likely to fall off when being carried. As for sound quality, it's pretty good. I've used numerous speakers over the years, whether it be Bluetooth, AirPlay or simply speakers that you can dock your iPhone with and most have not been up to scratch. I currently use a Sonos speaker and sound on that is great, by comparison the One Style is probably about 75% of the way there. The sound is clear and audible and even turning the volume up doesn't distort the sound as can happen with cheaper units. There isn't too much bass which is a good thing in my view, too many of these speakers are over bassy and it just doesn't suit the type of music that I listen to.The manufacturer claims that it has a 12 hour battery life and I've gotten around 10-11 hours of it, I guess it depends on the volume you play at and a variety of other factors, but it seems pretty good. Anything 10 hours and over is decent in my book as I'm only going to be listening to music for a couple of hours at a time and it lasts me a few days between charges.Impressive overall for its size, especially if you need a decent portable speaker. I generally listen to these things at home so have less of a need for portability but everyone's different. This also has the benefit of being splash proof which can come in handy during the summer months if you're by the pool or for if it rains when you're outdoors.

Summary - if you want a portable, splash-proof, Bluetooth speaker and aren't bothered about aptX then this is a good choice. Don't get the grey one if you like chocolate!Like Liberatone's Zipp Mini, the One Style is labelled as 'Made for' Apple devices. Unlike the Zipp Mini though, AirPlay is not an option so Bluetooth levels the playing field somewhat. To get the most out of it though does require the Liberatone app, available from the Apple App Store and Google Play. There is also an aux input for mini headphone jack connections hidden under a rubber flap on the back, along side the mini-USB charging port. A charging lead is provided but no mains plug so you'll need to charge from a computer or use a separate adaptor.AptX Bluetooth does not appear to be supported, but Bluetooth 4.1 is so the 4G signal quality of a connected phone is not impaired. That rubber flap is important as the One Style is splash-proof, as also evidenced by the rubber strip that covers the edges and also provides the handle/hook on the corner. It's a nice looking device though the grey material covering the drivers is easily marked. Like if someone in your house picks it up while eating a Cadbury's Flake. Most of the chocolate marks came out but not all! If you do intend taking it out and about you might want to consider a darker colour.Once paired, from the Liberatone app you can play 5 preset radio stations, but these can't be selected from the device directly. You can also adjust the sound, choosing from an adjustment ranging from smooth jazz to rock. Otherwise select your music app of choice and off you go. The sound comes out of both sides of the One Style but each side sounds slightly different: the front (with the volume and control dial) has more of the midrange and bass while the rear has more of the treble. This can be a little strange at first. I found the most balanced sound came with the One Style sitting edge-on facing me but it then feels like it's not playing 'to' you. Putting it on a shelf with the rear wall to bounce the sound off worked better. There is plenty of detail to the sound, decent bass and it goes pretty loud. As a Bluetooth speaker I prefer the Soundblaster Roar, which is easier to place with the sound coming from front and top but the Roar is heavier and doesn't have a convenient carry handle (nor is it splash-proof).

This latest Bluetooth speaker from the Scandinavian maker Libratone is certainly stylish, although the sample I received in Caribbean Green would not be my first choice of colour. It comes beautifully presented in a rounded box which reflects the contours of the product itself. It was fairly easy to set up, apart from the second phone I tried it on took several goes for no apparent reason. It is modular in approach in that different handles can be attached to the rubber / metal frame. The click has more options than the style in that respect. The sound compared to my Bose mini (which costs about 10 quid more) was disappointing. Rather flat and lacking in bottom end when playing rock music. It also needs to be stood on its end to get the best out of the 360 sound projection. That makes it’s a bit unstable unless it is hanging, which I think is a weakness. However it seems stable enough even when played at high volume – no discernible movement, so full marks on that front – and it hasn’t fallen over yet. Battery life at 12 hours at medium volume is OK but average for products in this range. At higher volume it will give 8 hours, which is sufficient in normal use. It is splash proof, but not waterproof. The material looks to me like it could get dirty in use, but I would say that this would score over the Bose if you are intending to use for getting out and about with it.I really liked the Libratone app which supports this speaker (although it does make you wish that this had wifi as well as Bluetooth). For one it is well designed and functional. You can pair to another Libratone speaker, set different sound profiles and the internet radio is well presented. You can store your favourites. It also made me realise that this excels as a small internet radio (via your phone) especially for speech radio.Overall I like this speaker. It is very stylish and well put together. You can see what you are getting for your money. It sounds good but not as good as some other speakers in the same price range. The app is the saving grace and well worth getting even if you are not going to pair it up with another speaker.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this Libratone One speaker as I have never heard of the company. But, I have wanted a speaker for my kitchen for a while and one that was portable to let me take out on family picnics etc. Whilst the weather has turned and the family days out will have to wait until next spring when the weather improves, this portable speaker was rather tempting so I gave it a go.I am not overly impressed with the colour but it isn't so awful as to put me off. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all and in the end I was more interested in its audio performance. Out of the nicely designed box I switched on the unit and within 1 minute my iPod had found and paired with it.Suddenly it was producing music. I had the free app downloaded shortly after too, but was already listening to music at this point. I was taken aback by its performance. The bass is rich and deep and the units volume control (swipe with your finger to the right to increase volume, to the left to turn it down) was soon in use to see if I could sense any distortion. None were noticeable. I have a Bose Soundtouch 30 which is outstanding but much more expensive, so it is unfair to compare I suppose. But the 'One' does a fine job in its own right, producing excellent sound with a variety of music types. Audiobooks were also delivered with excellent depth. The ease of connection, the portable nature of the unit and its very impressive audio performance were a real surprise to me. At the price I have to say its excellent. You can take this from room to room or to a friends house and have excellent audio quality without any hassle whatsoever. You also get options in terms of straps to attach to the speaker to carry it round as you wish. Again, a nice touch as it offers the user to choose the best method for them, rather than the unit come pre-fitted. I am bowled over in many ways given the quality of the sound from a £140 speaker. Yes, it is still a lot of money, but this speaker really is impressive. I recommend it without hesitation. On a side note, I like the bird logo too!!

I am extremely impressed with this speaker and so is my Husband who took it away to 'test' it for me when it arrived and has so far made it a little difficult to get a look in with the speaker as he has been busy carrying this around the house with him and testing out different music and speaker sounds on it for the last week. We have so far used it as a speaker for just general music from both phones and tablets which it handles perfectly with a decent sound and bass coming from the speaker. We have also watched movies on this via a linked tablet and again the sound quality has been fine although I must admit I am no audiophile. We have the One Style speaker and there also seems to be another two different speaker types on the same product page (One Click and TOO)and so if you are reading through reviews it is best checking at the top of each review for the small writing that confirms which style the review is about. The One Style comes with a fixed rubber handle that is big enough for fitting your hand through for carrying. The handle is not adjustable or removable and so it cannot be hooked onto anything like the One Click style seems to have but for our purposes this is not an issue. The speaker is double sided which I was surprised about at first as other speakers we have had in the past have tended to be one sided but this does seem to spread the sound around better. The speaker is a lovely neutral grey colour and I was slightly worried when it first arrived as it seemed to suggest on the outer box that it had been designed specifically for use with a iPhone or iPad which we do not use in our home. I can confirm that the speaker is Bluetooth and so does work with Bluetooth enabled devices and we have now tried it with 6 different Bluetooth devices at home to check.A beautifully styled speaker with two-sided sound and the sound quality is perfectly fine for general use. My only slight niggle would be that as it is a light colour I can see it possibly attracting dirt and dust over time.

I have the graphite grey Libratone TOO, and very impressive it is too. I’ve tried it with an iPhone and an Android phone, and connection to each was easy, with no subsequent problems such as dropped signal. The speaker looks great, having a very nice design and colour. About the size of a large pencil case, it easily fits on any book shelf, though would be too big and heavy to carry around in most pockets. It feels well made, and the rubber handle and port cover looks strong. You can control the volume from your phone, although the touch sensitive volume control on the speaker is too tempting not to play with. The speaker comes in a very stylish oval box, which includes a high-class USB charge cable. This instructions are minimal, but sufficient and very clear. Frankly, the speaker is sufficiently intuitive and simple to use without them. The sound of the speaker is very impressive. Obviously it’s not as good as a full HiFi system, but the mono sound is rich and clear, has a satisfying tonal balance, and fills the room well. The speaker is free from distortion, even at high volumes. I’ve tested the speaker with classical, jazz, BBC Radio 4, and my wife’s noisy heavy metal stuff, and the speaker does a good job with all. There is a Libratone app that you can install. However, it currently gets a lot of poor reviews on Google Play Store, so I have't installed it. Frankly, I can connect my phone, control volume and play radio, music files and phone calls perfectly without it, so I couldn't see any benefit to installing it.A few months ago I tried a larger and pricier Panasonic wireless speaker system, which didn’t impress me in the way this Libratone speaker does.Jan 2018Just thought I'd update the review to say that this speaker is still working well and I'm still impressed with it.

This is a beautifully packaged speaker and first impressions are excellent. Thankfully the aesthetics of the speaker merit the fancy box: it is really pleasingly designed - being both minimalist and tactile looking (the contrasting rubber surround and integrated carrying handle/loop and lightly padded 'body' invite you to handle it). In fact it reminds me of a woman's smart clutch bag (and it's about the same size too - though reassuringly surprisingly weighty and seemingly robust).Blue tooth set up is a breeze and you'll be listening to your tunes in no time (although strangely when I tap the control button - which should pause/silence a track - it opens up Mediaplayer on my PC and begins playing media from it simultaneously!)It comes with a USB charger (which cannot be housed within the unit - so keep it safe) and has a port for an aux-in 3.5 ml jack for non-bluetooth operation. The audio reproduction for a speaker at such a price point is a bit disappointing: bass is lacking (and rock music generally sounds rather flat ; although more acoustic type music sounds appreciably better). Neither is it particularly loud (but it will be fine for most home situations - less so as a source for party music). On the other hand I like the fact that audio is produced from both sides of the speaker which by contrast lends itself to more communal listening outdoors for example (which I suppose is largely the point of this type of speaker as its robust, splash-proof build means it will probably withstand a reasonable level of day-to-day stick in a range of different environments). In conclusion; if you value design as much as (if not more) than sound reproduction then this speaker may well be for you (it is - to my knowledge - possibly the most stylish portable speaker out there).

Libratone One Style Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Cloudy GreyIn the box.The speaker comes in very stylish packing.Build quality. The speaker is one of the best builds (without spending silly money) I have seen for some time. It has a degree of style with its understated design. Nothing what so ever to fault here. The drive units are twined so you get the sound in 360 degrees.Sockets.It has a USB charging socket and a jack line in.Controls.These are push button on the top of the unit these are on and off, forward and backwards for song selection.Design.Libratone have gone for quality in the design, everything about this speaker is nice, it feels good, looks good and sounds good.Set up.It has both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection and it is very easy to setup. Just turn it on and then put your music device into search mode and it is quickly found and locked. This was a simple, quick and painless process.Sound.Just playing Adel’s 25 album you soon realise the sound is very good indeed and it is hard to believe it is coming from this little speaker. Hello from this album with its dynamics are brilliant for such a small speaker. Going to the other end of the scale and listening to the Piano Boys playing Pachelbel’s Canon in D major reproduces the cello sound very well. This little speaker sounds good with all types of music and goes surprisingly loud without distortions. It’s not going to fill a room with sound but for personal listening it is great. The volume is fine and distortion is well controlled.Overall.A very nice design with above average sound. My only negative is the price, it is very expensive for what it is but stylish design is never cheap. Overall I am happy with the speaker but not with the price for the sound quality.

Stunning, brilliant, amazing sound! The packaging is elegant and very 'apple-like', inside the box is this substantial speaker with a wonderful soft surface - a rugged cloth similar to what you would expect on a traditional loudspeaker but much more robust, and a soft touch rubber edging. Underneath the speaker are the accessories - a USB cable for charging, and a carry handle.. In the lid of the box are the simple instructions.Basically, this speaker ha a power switch, which you press and hold for a few seconds and a tone lets you know that the speaker is on. Then all the rest of the controls are on the other side of the speaker. Simply touch the round 'bird'button and the speaker can be found in the Bluetooth menu of your phone or other audio device. A system of flashing LED's confirms this is working. Press play on your phone (or other device) and music is there! Simply run your finger around the bird control and a rotary set of LED's indicates the volume is going up - reverse to reduce volume.Compared with a BOSE speaker of more than twice the price, volume levels and sound quality are equivalent , only directionality is better with the BOSE - an issue which makes this model fantastic value for money!Press the power switch and the whole thing shuts down. Power up later and a press on the bird continues playback from the last point!By pulling up the rubber cover at the opposite end of the power button, the USB and 3.5mm jack sockets are revealed. The unit comes charged, so it can be used straight away. Also it works brilliantly with my Windows phone, but will also work with Android or ApplePersonally, I am absolutely bowled over with the sound performance of this speaker and I thoroughly recommend it.

The build quality is really impressive with a rubber top and fabric sides, its not the lightest of things but when the battery lasts around 10-12 hours and a decent speaker you can understand why. The packaging is exactly like an apple product and even the instructions come in a white little packet like an iphone. As far as connections go you have a micro USB slot to charge the thing and a 3.5mm socket to connect if your device doesn't have Bluetooth.Connecting via Bluetooth was easy, all I had to do was turn it on with the big button on the top and search for the device on my phone and click connect. Changing the volume on my phone would then be indicated around the power button with little LEDs showing you how loud it was.One other thing to mention is its got some really cool like sounds when you turn it off and on, sounds like a pod racer from star wars! My wife couldn't connect with her phone via Bluetooth but my phone did and they are the same phone so couldn't figure that one out so she used the 3.5mm jack to play audio. One thing I found was the sound and mainly the base would change depending on what surface you sit the speaker on, sitting it on our wood floor would make the base sound louder! When I 1st got the speaker I charged it to full and the battery has lasted a very long time so far, I would say well over 9-10 hours at a loud volume so very impressive. Only slight negative is you need a little usb plug to charge it up but as most people have one of these anyway to charge phones its not really a problem.

You're paying for both quality of sound and quality of build with this item; it boasts an impressive, immersive listening experience across the range, and is clearly a very well-made, durable item. It's very easy to pair up with your device. We've used it with an iPad Air 2 and a Samsung Note 4 (often switching between them several times in a sitting) and have had no problems at all. Although we've only been using a single Libratone unit, it's possible to chain two together for an even more immersive sound experience, which is a particular bonus of going with this range. On a full charge, you'll get a good half a day of use out of the speakers. There's an auto-off feature (handy for absent-minded folk like us),so no danger of wasting battery when you forget to turn it off. It comes with the USB charging cable, which itself is also high-quality, fabric-woven.In terms of packaging and design, the product is Apple-esque in its chic. The look is super-cool and compact, and the illuminating nightingale display is minimalist but tops off a very attractive product design. It's moderately weighty for a small unit - a weight that underlines the quality of the product, I think, but perhaps makes it a little less portable than the 'super portable' hype. That said, it's not *heavy*, as such, and would be easy to pop in the car / case - just maybe not something you'd want to carry around in your bag all day.Excellent sound, a quality build - it's hard to be disappointed with these.

The marketplace is crammed with bluetooth speakers, but this one is a little different, built specifically for music on the go. The Libertone One arrived in a simple white and minimal box, which is very Apple-esque, an impression which is amplified by the similarly minimal instructions. Luckily the speaker almost sets up itself. It's charged when you get it, switch on the power button and my Ipad found the speaker instantly, there's a double beep from the speaker, the single control button lights up and off you go. Volume is covered by a swipe of the control button, you can pause the sound with a single press and other than that the only gripe is that it took me a while to realise that thehandles could be attached by removing the speaker surround to attach them - no instructions for that.As for the sound, it comes from both sides, so you will be standing it on end or using those handles, otherwise you are losing one of the key features. Sound is excellent, and for such a small box the sound really is impressive, and well up to the standard of the Sonos speakers we have -plenty of clarity and depth even if it might not satisfy those who are addicted to bass.At £140 or thereabouts this is a very impressive unit, that can be used almost anywhere, because it's splashproof and this has very wide appeal - by the way, the green version will not be to everyones taste, but it is easy to see!.

This is a smart-looking, splashproof speaker although I worry that the cover could get grubby (best go for the black version?). Inside, there’s an 80mmm woofer, 30mm tweeter and passive driver. It sounds good, certainly up there among the best I’ve tried at the price. There’s plenty of detail and separation, with decent weight and richness to the bass and crisp, clear treble, although I’m a little less sure about the mid-range. Vocals are natural and there’s all the volume most people will want. You can pair it with two devices and fight over who gets to control it. And apparently you can pair two speakers with one device, for stereo sound or to have two speakers playing the same material. There’s a microphone, in case you want to use this as a speakerphone, and a 3.5mm jack if you need it.I’ve only run this for about 8 hours, so far, but it hasn’t needed a recharge (micro USB) which makes the claimed 12-hour life seem plausible. The touch controls aren’t immediately intuitive but are a pleasure to use, once you’ve discovered how they work. The speaker’s design will make it unsuitable for some. It needs to be stood on its narrow base (making it unstable) or hung up, for 360° sound. It certainly sounds much better that way than laid flat. If that isn’t an issue for you, you’re likely to be very happy with the Style.
