I love homemade chips (and healthy veggie sticks too, I suppose!) and while it’s not a huge hassle to cut chips by hand, it can take a long time and getting each chip a uniform size is a bit hit or miss.I’ve had and used chippers previously but none of them have really worked 100% or stood the test of time. I was very sceptical about whether this one would be any better but I am very happy to say I was wrong.Firstly, the product is very easy to set up. You insert the blade that you want - to make either 10mm chips or 12mm chips and you’re ready to go.The potato (or other veggie) goes into the slot and down into the chamber. Then, you simply press the handle which forces the vegetable onto the blade. From the front of the chipper comes perfectly cut chips. I’ve used both large and small potatoes in the chipper and it handles them equally well. You don’t need much pressure on the handle, either, so there’s no worry the whole thing is going to buckle. There are also non-slip coating on the bottom of the chipper to keep it steady on your unit.Because the potato goes down and round the chamber, the chips come out with a slight curve to them. It’s probably not intentional but it’s a fun detail!Once you’re done, the blade comes out and can be washed by hand or the whole thing pops in the dishwasher for even easier cleaning. This is a really great piece of kit for the kitchen and a time-saver if you’re making your own chips or crudités. At a little over £20 at the time of writing, this is also great value for a really decent chipper. 5 stars.

First things first. Functionally there's no faulting it. Cutting chips is very easy and takes little effort. I've used it a few times and so far it's worked perfectly. I know some complain about it only handling small potatoes; well, it all depends on what you call "small" I suppose. It won't take real whoppers that's for sure, but it'll certainly take what I would characterise as medium size. Now for the gripes.................I feel a little embarrassed as I write this because the gripes seem trivial even to me, but I somehow find them disproportionately irksome. For one thing the chips come out bent. Yes, I said "bent", like a banana. (See pic). It's because the press, instead of moving on a flat surface, rotates into the cutter, and the chips so produced reflect that action. Does it matter at all? Common sense says "no", but common sense isn't always a factor. I just don't care for bent chips.Secondly, although it has two cutters, and one of them is described as for cutting "french fries", in point of fact even the smaller gauge cutter is larger than I'm used to for that purpose. If the results are french fries then they're very thick french fries, and bent to boot.(See the pic again. I put in a fork for scale.)So there you have it. If you're ok with thick, bent french fries then this may be for you. But I knocked a star off because of it.

This is a sturdy chip cutter, which is capable of making fatter chips (12mm) or change the blade to cut the slimmer 10mm size. This has a non slip base and it does take up a bit of room on the counter top. However, unless you eat a lot of chips, or vegetable batons, you won’t want it all the time and so this lives happily in a cupboard most of the time.It is simple to use. Insert the appropriate cutting blade, put in the vegetable and press down. Chips come out slightly curved, but that is fine. Larger potatoes are easier if you chop them in half and this does not cope well with harder vegetables, such as sweet potatoes (I tend to make chips from a mixture of potatoes and sweet potatoes). That said,it can cope easily with potatoes, plus a whole host of other vegetables, such as carrots, cucumbers or courgettes. It is so easy to use that my ten year old daughter could easily push the potatoes through and the blade is tucked away, so, as long as you set up the cutter, it is safe and simple to use. I always like to involve children in cooking – they are much more likely to eat things they have helped prepare and she liked courgettes for the first time after cutting these with me. A really well thought out gadget for the kitchen.

If you need an excuse to have some chips, then this offers an almost effortless means by which to make your own, whether for guilt-free results with an airfryer or a more indulgent frying pan method. The Leifheit cutter is one of the more robust chippers I have come across, made from sturdy plastic that reduces the user effort to a minimum. You do still need to exert some pressure to press a potato through the mechanism but it is worth it if you are seeking uniform chips as the end result. Two blade options are available, one slightly thicker than the other but both produce fairly thin chips – if you want really thick cut chips you will need to resort to hand cutting. One of the great design features is that the spare blade and pusher is stored neatly under the base so you will never misplace the other option if you want to swap over – and swapping out is nice and easy with a sliding mechanism for both.I have washed by hand and haven’t found any tricky places where bits of potato can lurk and be difficult to remove, which is always useful. The only downside is that it is a fairly large piece of equipment to store (roughly 25 x 15 x 9 cm).

I ordered this chipper after returning a fully stainless steel one. It was about ten pounds (I got it for about 24 pounds) more expensive than the one it replaced but far better value for money. The design itself is excellent and it is very easy to use, There are two sizes of lattice - the one which isn't being used can be stored on the underside of the chipper. Mine did not come with any instructions, but because of the design the lattice can only be inserted one way and the plastic bit which pushes the chips through is straightforward enough in that it just twists an eighth turn and comes off.The only points to mention are that the chips it cuts will be very slightly curved and I did find the lack of instructions meant I spent a couple of minutes working out how to change between lattices but it was pretty logical. Mine has a dishwasher safe symbol on it so I presume it goes through the dishwashes ok, but I can't confirm this personally. In summary, it's well designed, reliable and straightforward to use - very very pleased with it.

Although advertised as good for making 'healthy vegetable sticks' we know what this is really for: chips! And as a chipper it works pretty well. Traditionally these sort of machines are made of steel and, although one might initially have concerns about one constructed almost entirely out of plastic, it is sturdy plastic and very easy to clean. The chipper comes with two sizes of blades - for 10mm and 12mm chips - which are easily changed (the unused blade and its accompanying die - the bit that pushes the potato through the blade - fit on the bottom of the machine). In operation it is absolutely straightforward. I had no problems cutting regular sized potatoes fast.Chips come out slightly curved - which is neither a problem nor an asset.Final question - do you really need a chipper? What's wrong with cutting your potato with a knife? Well this is certainly fast, and the chips are of uniform size so they will all take the same time to fry. And as to whether you really need one - well, all depends how much you love your chips.

I love chips, being a Northerner it's part of out culture! Hand made chips are the best and I've used 4 different chip cutters now, this one is the second best I've used. The potato is pressed against a cross-hatched blade and is cut into chips, the handle does sometimes flex when you're cutting a big spud, and it can bow alarmingly, sometimes larger spuds need chopping in half and you need to press at the "inner" part of the lever rather than the outer part to avoid excessive bending if the spud is putting up too much resistance. The level of flex may have seemed alarming if I'd not already used another chipper which was metal - but flimsy and buckled the first time I used it.This is perfectly fine but It's not as sturdy as the Zyliss chip cutter which features a very similar design but has a larger "cutting" area and, like this Leifheit model, has 2 inserts so you can have thick or thin chips. In a nutshell: It works better than most, but it's not the best - the Zyliss chip cutter is very similar but seems a bit sturdier.

The chip cutter was a little difficult to use at first, I found it hard to push the potato through. I found cutting the potato smaller made the job much easier. The cutter comes with two different size blades, so you can make your vegetable slices in either 10 or 12 mm thicknesses. Whichever blade is not being used can be stored at the base of the cutter. This is better than keeping it in a cupboard or draw.Carrots sliced very easily as did courgette and cucumber. The knife inserts, which have a plastic insert, are very easy to change and also very easy to clean. The handle is large and feels comfortable to push down and feels non-slip.The base of the cutter is also non-slip which is great when preparing vegetables on the kitchen worktops. The only downside to the chipper is that the vegetables will have a curve at the ends, but this is not a problem for me personally. Well made, straightforward to use and easy to clean. I give the Leifheit chip cutter 4 stars.

This does the job of cutting potatoes into chips very well. I'm not sure in my space limited kitchen I can really give up the space for it full time as it is quite large and doesn't come apart for storage at all.It will do sweet potatoes but not happily, lots of creaking and hard work and I suspect it would break it at some point so will abandon that idea. Sometime you need to chop a large potato in half. The chips it makes, in 2 widths are nice, slightly curved. I par boiled them for 3 mins before coating in olive oil and salt and pepper and roasted on a hot oiled tray in the oven for 20 mins and they were very tasty, much nicer than oven chips. The blades and pushers are easy to pop out and wash or change. The body itself is a bit more of a pain to wash but easy if you do it quickly after using. If you make chips regularly and have the space then this is a handy little gadget.

I love my potatoes in any shape or form, and cutting chips to same size is an art in itself, that I've never properly mastered. Having one's chips uniform thickness will result in perfectly fried lot, and doing it by hand has always been my pet hate. Not any more, this chip cutter is just perfect - body is made of a single piece of plastic, so exerting significant pressure on the whole medium size potato can break up something less sturdy. Due to the design of this product, chips are slightly curved, but that doesn't bother me, since they are all perfect thickness - I'm using the 10mm blade, but those can be easily replaced with the thicker, 12mm ones. Large potatoes must be halved.I cut the large quantity of potatoes in no time, this device is easy to clean too, so for those chips lovers like me, this is a no brainer.

The Leifheit chip cutter is made from sturdy hygienic plastic with a non slip base and a grip texture on the handle. It has a choice of two interchangeable cutter blades, either 10 mm or 12 mm in size. The handle operation is easy and the "hopper" under the handle that the potato goes into will take up to 3-4" potatoes/vegetables for chipping. It’s easy to clean and dishwasher safe.Overall I really like the Cutting machine. Blade changing is very simple and the 2nd blade stores under the base which is convenient. The handle does feel sturdy and chipping spuds and vegetable easy. The only thing I can't talk about is how durable or how long the blades will last. The company do claim to offer a 3 year warranty so they obviously have confidence in the product.

I am a home worker and I tend to snack at home by always going for a biscuit or apple - something that is very easy. Well this makes creating a plate of carrot battons, or cucumber battons so so easy and so so quick.Simply peel the carrot chop, top and tail, depending on carrot size cut into the baton size you want and then squeeze the handle. This works brilliantly. There are some plastic kitchen gadgets that get used once and then go straight to the back of the cupboard.....This is not one of them.Cleaning was easy and the smaller cutter is stored on the device......Great device great functionality. From a chips perspective the main issue is that the potato would need to be smalish.

This product comes in a good firm box so if you are going to store it in a cupboard (probably) or give it as a present (less likely) then it can stay in the box. It's a really simple idea in that you put the vegetable in the slot and push it through then the blades cut the vegetable into sticks - width depending on which of the two attachments you are using.Like many people I have found that potatoes need to be cut before they can be chipped but it works really well for other veg for crudities - carrots, cucumber, etc. It's got a good firm handle and is easy to wash - either in the dishwasher or just under the tap.

10.7.2017

Chunkier than I was expecting but it's reassuringly sturdy and I like the smooth lines and sleek feel.It has a choice of two sizes of cutting plate, the one not being used can be stored within the underside and swapping these over is as simple as sliding one out and sliding the new one in.It's really sad maple to use, I use mine mainly for making carrot sticks and after placing a peeled carrot, cut in half, into the feeding chute, just a simple press down and inwards of the handle and the carrot sticks effortlessly appear at the other end, slightly curved but otherwise perfect!

This is absolutely enormous. It takes up a lot of space on the counter so make sure you have room there or in a cupboard. It is well made, very sturdy, the blades seem strong and durable and most of all it works.I have tried it with normal white potatoes and it as an absolute doddle to use. Its lazy though and its just as easy to cut the potato with a knife and do it yourself. Its genuinely up to you if you want to buy one. It would be beneficial to buy if you have a small business, a cafe for example, but i believe this is serious overkill for a normal household.
