We were sent this in return for our honest review. It recommends the game should be for ages 5+, however, my two year old daughter has been really enjoying playing too and I see no reason at all why younger players can’t join in the fun.To play simply squeeze the potato to start the music. Players should be stood or sat in a circle. The potato is then tossed back and forth between the players and, when the music stops, whoever is holding the potato loses a life. You can keep track of who is winning/losing by using the chip cards. If you lose a life, take a card and, when you have 3 cards you are out.My children have really enjoyed playing this game together. Sometimes they play it with the chip cards, other times they just play and play until they get fed up, no one loses, no one wins, they just have lots of fun!Hot Potato would be a great party game and a really good alternative to having to wrap up layers and layers of pass the parcel! The game is also helping the my children with turn taking, hand eye coordination and physical skills such as throwing and catching. The potato needs 2AA batteries to work however there are some already installed in the potato so you can play straight away.We would definitely recommend this game for all ages.

I bought this product for my cousin's birthday and it really was one of the best presents I've bought for him! It's the most simple idea but it's so much fun! The potato is made out of a soft fabric and stuffed, and is designed to be thrown around all over the place! The game is basically musical chairs without the chairs; the potato says a little phrase and then starts with the music. Whoever is holding the potato when the music stops gets a chip and when you get 3 chips you're out! It's great because you can play with loads of people or very few people, of all different ages. You can play it outside if the weather's nice and spread out, or play it indoors in a living room with people dotted around. It really is very versatile and a lot of fun, and it also encourages motor skills, hand/eye co-ordination and exercise without realising it! We had hours of fun with it and I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a gift idea for children from about 5years plus.

This is a pre-delivery review. Hence no "educational" or "durability" stars. Those will come after Christmas day. I have six children and we've always done pass the parcel. The littles cheat like mad and I'm compromised whenever the music has to be stopped (by me)on one or another. With this, I'm really looking forward to wrapping up small packets of sweets and other pound shop prizes for those who are eliminated. With a big family present that all can enjoy for the finalist. Played after Christmas Day lunch! It really is the reverse psychology of pass the parcel. Rather than hold on to the parcel (as they always have done) the idea being to get rid of it as soon as possible.A hot potato indeed!(Hope it works - will report post 25th with results.Success will be in the prize preparation too :)Post December 25th review: Bloomin' marvellous outcome. Everyone enjoyed, laughed and had fun. This simple little hot potato worked a treat.

This was a christmas gift for my daughter.Even though we had opted for standard delivery, we were pleasantly surprised to recieve the product within 2 days of placing the order and that too, just 2 days before christmas! It comes in very appealing package. I can't comment much on durability as its just about a month that we've had this toy..it's worked so far so I've given it 5 stars..it is a wonderful toy for all ages. It's nothing more than passing the parcel actually, but the look of the parcel and the accompanying music makes it more fun. It has the penalty potato chips with it that made it more visual for my autistic daughter as to why someone was losing or winning the game.We also modified it as in we chose a particular category like say, animals, and then each person had to name an animal before passing on the hot potato. This made the game a bit more challenging as no repititions were allowed. All in all, a great toy!!

We bought the Hot Potato game as a stocking filler for a friend. It created some great laughs for both the adults and children. It's just a simple cuddly potato with a timer. Press the potato, start the music and throw the potato to the next person. The length of time it takes for the timer to go off varies so you never know when you will be out. It helps that the potato is soft as smaller children find it easier to catch, and it doesn't hurt if it falls on the floor.Yes, you won't play it all day and night as it's such a simple game to play, but it is a handy boredom buster you can get out now and then. You can be as energetic or lazy as you want, so you don't even have to get off the sofa if you don't want to,or you can take it outside and get people running around a bit more to catch it.

This is a cheap fun item that went down a storm with my grandchildren at Christmas. The laughs for adults and children alike (ages were 3- 72) were constant. A very simple fun idea based on pass the parcel.Be careful where you play it, as over-excitement and the wish to not be the one holding the 'tater' when the music goes off can lead to peoples aim being off. So watch out for ornaments and heads! One negative though, it was played in a carpeted room but when it hit the floor occasionally this caused the item to malfunction. Switching back on and off has corrected this so far. However, a little more and more effective padding would likely resolve this issue (also softer on the head when aim not too good). But overall, especially because of the price this game toys is a real hit!

My granddaughter and her two parents and I payed Hot Potato for an hour. We had such fun, and we laughed a lot. The adults could remover this game from childhood, and we had used a real potato or a rock or something similar. The game came packaged in a thick plastic. Easy to open, with instructions in place. Batteries were included, so it was very easy to use right out of the box. My granddaughter, 5, caught on right away , and she mastered the game. She won most of the games , though the competition got a little fierce towards the end. This is a fun game for 3, but more fun for 3 or more. Lots of laughs. Brought back the simple times of yore. The music is fun and the pace picks up quickly. This will liven up your holidays !Recommended. prisrob 11-22-14

I bought it for my sons 5th birthday party and it worked well. Rather than play the game as it is intended with 3 tokens each, I gave each child one of the games token and had a bag of sweets ready. When they were left with the hot potato when the music stopped they swopped their token for a sweet. If the potato stopped on them again it didn't matter but they didn't get another sweet. The last one with a token left got a sweet and a wrapped little gift. The kids enjoyed the novelty of the musical potato and I didn't have to wrap a traditional pass the parcel.I was also surprised that my kids loved the potato so much when it first arrived. They loved playing the game as it is intended or just dancing aroun d madly to the music!

This is a great value toy for the whole family to enjoy. I have two younger children who still struggle with the concept of board games so found this a great alternative that we could all enjoy as a family at christmas time. The toy is pressed and music is played whoever is holding the toy when the music stops gets a "chips" card, those with the LEAST chip cards at the end of the game wins.I remember this toy from my childhood, it looked exactly the same but played different music and the "chip cards" were plastic fries - which I felt were more durable than the paper chip cards of todays version. Because I remember it from childhood and enjoyed it,it prompted me to buy it for my own children who love it.

We love this game,,,our children are aged between 18 months - 13 years old and they all enjoyed playing it along with us adults on christmas day. Really easy to play,,,pass around the potato and if the music stops on you have to take a chip and when you have 3 your out. I've lost count of the amount of times we've played this so far but it's so much fun you'll never get bored. We plan on using this on our children's birthday parties too as it's the same game play as pass the parcel and winner will receive the present.

Bought this for my Grandson (aged 5) for Christmas and Mum, Dad, wee sister (3), Grannie, Grandad and Great-grannie all had great fun playing. It's a variation on pass the parcel except you get 3 lives. The kids had a great time pretending to throw to someone then throwing to someone else and even dancing round a bit before throwing, and the excited look of anticipation on their faces as they did so was as enjoyable as the game. For under £10 a great gift idea for any child or family.

I brought this for my daughters 5th birthday party. We used it for parcel parcel, with out the paper. The children loved it and thought it was great fun. It encouraged them to pass it straight on without the normal holding on to the parcel, waiting for the music to stop. It also made sure with the older children that there was no cheating going on. Would RECOMMEND even if it is only used as we did. The children which we have used it with, range between 4 - 14years.

I'm using this for parties instead of pass the parcel for young children. Saves people thinking the game is fixed as the music stops on it's own and saves many trees as no paper is removed. I'm simply offering a lollipop to the child who has it when the music stops to encourage them to leave the circle and then a main prize to the final winner. It's also great for adults to throw to each other at a family gathering.

Played this round a friends house at christmas and it was such a hit we had to buy it. Just like pass the parcel without the wrapping paper. My three year old loves this. Annoying music, but a big hit with the kids. Slightly disappointed that the 'hot potatoes' that you collect when you lose are only made of flimsy card but for the price you can't really expect more. Well worth buying for the price.

This toy was originally gift received by my 4 year old son and have since bought for many of his friends family. Great fun - no complicated instructions , just switch on and play. Now nearly 6 he still loves it - as do all the adults from parents to grannies who join in! Potato cards have more or less been forgotten about but doesn't matter really to basic game. Definitely recommend.
