We got Articulate for Christmas 2008, and we have played it 3 times already with friends and family. The rules are simple; describe as many words as you can in the time limit and move around the board towards the finish faster than the other teams. Each board square represents a different catergory to try and explain, and these can be really easy or very hard, which is a great balance for the game. This game is easy to play, fast paced, and a lot of fun. It gets everyone involved and excited and I would reccommend this game for any party. Please note however, that after only playing this game three times, we are running low on fresh answers. Despite the giant box of cards, most of them are duplicates, and explaining the same thing over and over again takes the fun out of things a little bit. There are millions of words out there, so why there are so many duplicates is very frustrating.Value for money poor. We already need the bumper pack!!I also feel the game could have more variations, challenges or things to do. The control sections are good(when every team tries to guess) but the spinner in the middle of the board is relativly pointless, thus, this could be just as fun played without the board. The end is a little anti-climatic after so much excitment, which is a shame because with just a bit more invention, variation and not so many duplicate answers this game could be truly great.Enjoyable but very short shelf life without a top-up pack, and frustratingly this could be so much better. 4 stars.

I never realised just how hard it can be to describe a phrase without using any of the words in it. Some are much easier than others though - especially if you have local colloquialisms for a particular phrase that use none of the words in the phrase. We have been playing the original Articulate for a couple of years now and it never gets old - it does always become incredibly silly though. When we saw the Articulate Phrases version it was a no brainer to get it. However, because we have a rather large board game collection we bought it with the intention of playing over Christmas and it stayed nicely wrapped until last weekend (only 4 months later than we intended!)Although we had a lot of fun playing somehow it wasn't as joyful an experience as the original.I'm not sure why, maybe it was a mistake to it so late in the day when we were getting tired and suffering from the effects of Hanger. We play just with three people (myself, my husband and our adult son) so the rules always need tweaking for games like this that are more geared towards team play. It is easy to adjust though and we just used our tried and tested method for this style of game - the questioner rotates like the players do and then it is best of two so if someone is useless at describing both of the other players get to suffer. I didn't describe that very well I know but it works for us.It is a lot of fun and you certainly need to think, just not quite as fun as the original game.

Articulate is along the same lines of Taboo, but without the words you can't say. Sounds easier, but it isn't when you get down to it.If you know how to play Taboo, then the rules are basically the same. The category system works well - each card has 6 subject on it:ObjectPersonWorldActionNatureRandomThe timer turns and you've got 30 seconds to describe to your team mates (or mate if you're unpopular) as many of your designated category as you can. You move that many sections around the game board, and land on a different subject each time.A game for 4 teams takes around 45 minutes. This game works well after dinner with friends (and even better after a few glasses of wine.)But only if you have a wife who knows what a 'Blue Rectangle in Russia' is.*It'll struggle to keep younger players interested for the duration, but adults will get through it fine. The main enjoyment comes from the quite ridiculous answers that people come up with for things. It's a regular in my household, and we've bought it as a gift for friends as well. I've never played with anyone who hasn't enjoyed it :)* It's Red Square, Moscow by the way...

We played this exciting little game over Christmas. With a great variety of words, some easy and some difficult, but most of all entertaining when your friends put their imagination and their intellect to the limit this game is sure to provide many hours of entertainment! Failing that you can always buy the 'expansion pack' of 500 cards with new words for each category.A few problems worth mentioning are that some of the names in the 'people' category are so obscure that very few would know them or be able to break the words down, so we found that players would often get caught up on that category for a few turns if they were unlucky. It's also not recommended for children, however there is a version of this game that is designed for children. Also, the thing in the middle was broken, the build-quality of this game could be a bit better for the money. There must be at least 4 people in order for this game to function in it's prime competitive state, and sometimes it's hard to motivate 4 people to participate at the same time.Overall, great game, entertaining, could be made better but worth the money based on fun!

I bought this for an older people's group I belong to after seeing a group of young actors playing it. The game rules seems unnecessarily complicated for the elderly group who range in age from mid sixties to mid eighties. However it is eminently suitable for an age when you know what you want to say but have to go round the houses a bit to find the right word stored in your brain. This is a sort of verbal charades and the sharper witted certainly enjoy it. I would say that it is better for exercising the brain than doing jigsaws or really boring things like Sudoku. My older group simplified the game by taking turns round the table to describe or guess the item on the card. The quiz element was satisfying in itself. Older people seem slower to pick a second card even if the "egg timer" has still some time to run and are not so competitive as younger folk. Some of us like to mime but not all.Maybe workers in care homes would like to use this game with the more alert residents. The price on Amazon is very welcome and saves a good deal.

A fantastic family game for those desiring a more active mind.Tests your vocabulary, your ability to describe as well as your knowledge of your game partner, all under the pressure of a count down timer.I recently bought this as a Christmas present for my Mother and I was slightly reserved about how good it would be as our family has only adult children. But we were all pleasantly surprised. The game is brilliant, requiring individuals to think fast and talk faster in an attempt to get the most points with their partner. It's very good watching pairs who know each other just expecting their other half to be telepathic. The only slight downfall of the game is the sand timer,it could be sticky at times and lead to competitive disputes erupting, nothing a phone timer app couldn't resolve. As long as you aren't playing it week in week out there are thousands of possible answers to describe, enough, so that between holidays the same explanations won't give away easy answers.

Bought this for our family of 4 to play during our lockdown Christmas and after some initial confusion about the rules, we had a great laugh playing several rounds of this. Some turns had us in absolute stitches!A real test of knowledge for both the describers and the guessers, you need a reasonably decent amount of general knowledge to know what/who/where you're describing to your teammates to guess is! Best played with teams made up of an age range - our 17yro was mostly ok but our 15yro struggled with not knowing what some of the things are to describe - you're only allowed 1 pass per turn, so if you use this too hastily you can easily find yourself stuck on a word you don't know!Although that his half the fun, if all the words were too easy there'd be no competition. This is now a definite family favourite! It would be great if like trivial pursuit they sold top up card packs!

i have never played this game before, but was introduced to it at a friends house. played it, loved it so much that i ordered my own set and now i play it all the time with the family. it is such a hilarious game, which is bound to cause alot of arguments in the family, especially with the spinner!the gist of it is, you have topics such as nature, random, object, spade, action, world and person. on the card is one of each as well as a spade option. when the timer goes, you have to try and get your team to guess what your word is without saying the word. add the spinner (if you land on a red or orange tab, spin the spinner and depending on what you land on you can move another team back or yourself forward!)only bad thing was that the time was faulty.it wouldnt always stop at 30 seconds, so i use a stopwatch now. still, great game!

This is one of my very favourite games to play and we always bring it out when friends or family get together. The great thing about the game is that there isn't really a limit to how many people can play as you have to play in teams. The premise of the game is that you have to descirbe the word on the card without acutally saying the word. There are several categories of words including, object, action, people and places etc. You have to describe as many words as you can for your team to guess beofre the egg timer runs out. It sounds easy but it is amazing how people react under pressure and how people describe certain words. This has produced so many moments of absolute hilarity for us,I don't think I will ever tire of it. A must have game in my opinion and would recommend it to anyone!

We've had ARTICULATE for nearly three months and have played the game several times. It never fails to entertain, and perhaps the secret to its success is the 'egg timer', because it puts each team under intense pressure to deliver results in a short space of time. In fact, my 15-year-old daughter looked at her smart watch after playing this game for what must have been a couple of hours and she was adamant that she had burned more calories than she would have done by just watching TV or going on social media. Of course, there can be no doubt that this game stimulates the mind as well, so it's simply good news all round. Hard to think of a better way to have a harmless laugh at home under lockdown with children and adults loving the game as much as each other.Strongly recommended!

Whether it's a family games evening with ones own teenagers or groups of adults ( sometimes with their teenagers -sometimes without!) this game always is a winner. No-one too old or too young to play. Very young at a bit of a disadvantage as TV , films and Actors etc probably before their time.Hillarious watching friends struggle to describe/ convey terms such as The Incredible Hulk. Or a Parsnip!! Sounds easy -but against the clock is very different!! And after a meal etc the words just don't want to come out. It is hillarious. And the banter between husbands and wives is priceless too. Each telling the other that their description was pathetic!!!Could do with new cards now -they have beenplayed so often that fresh words now needed.

There is nothing quite like finding out your friends and loved ones have limited knowledge of topics you think everyone knows about by rapidly screaming words of association at them.So much so it generally gets played at most board game nights we have, it tends to be more popular with the less hard-core gamer that might shy away from some of the other more complicated board games that are popular nowadays. It's relatively re-playable, and the games are generally pretty quick (and the speed will depend on how much you and your team mates know!). We've mostly played in small groups of 2-3 teams, which is good and means you aren't waiting too long for your turn. All in all,a welcome addition to any board game collection.

I found this board game ' Drumond Park Articulate. Phrases Family Board Game - The Fast Talking Description Game | Party & Family Games for Adults & Children from 12 Years Old Multicolour ' well made and very interesting. Its grabbed all family and my friends attention immediately and we spend a lot of evenings playing it.The game is highly addictive, because not as easy as you think to win it.It is great that to play it can from 4 to 20+ person,so you can play it with huge group of friends. It is great fun when you have to explain phrase without actually saying it and big team trying to do it.Definitely recomend it to all,it is amazing board game, perfect for everybody who is +12 age.

This game is great. It's fast-moving, against the clock stuff. You have to describe everyday words such as places, people, verbs and random words without using the word itself, spelling it or rhyming it. It really gets the brain moving and by the end of a game you are warmed up for many more! We played it about 10 times on Boxing Day because everyone loved it. It's easy to play and understand the rules and each game lasts about 30 minutes so it's not exhaustive. The egg timer however doesn't give much time to really get going so we devised our own rule of giving each team two turns of the egg timer. That really improved the game. But 10 out of 10 for the idea and the execution.

I ordered 2 of these games, one as a gift for friends, fast deliver, and well packaged, the other one for my husband. We had friends over for Christmas lunch and I was looking for a game we could all play after we had all eaten. This game didn’t disappoint. We had a blast, I don’t think we have all laughed so hard and for so many hours in a long time. It’s a great game and kept us all entertained for hours. Comes with a board, cards, hourglass plastic timer and rules which are pretty straight forwardThis has to be one of the best games out there. Highly recommended purchase and I will be buying more for family and friends in the future
