This game is a simple memory game. The box contains everything you need and to get started including 4 shopping trolleys, 4 shopping lists and over 30 food/household items that are easy to recognise by little one. You can purchase a booster set that contains two more shopping lists, and the corresponding items. These are clothes and other non food items just to make the game a little more interesting when little ones become bored. When you purchase the game you have to push each piece of card from the cardboard sheets they arrive on.They are sure to use foods which are purchased everyday in households so that they are recognisable and familiar to little one straight away.The pieces are card are fantastic quality, really thick which is perfect when being used by toddlers. The box they come in is also very durable and is still in perfect condition. They cars are laminated which makes them perfect for sticky little hands as they can be wiped down. The pieces are small, and so we have to be very careful not to lose any. To play you simply take a trolley card and a shopping list each. Then you place all of the items of grocery cards face down on the table. Next you take it in turns to turn over a card and check if it is on your list. If the item is on your list it moves into your shopping trolley. If not it is shown to the group and replaced face down so that it can be found if needed when it is their turn. Continue this until someone has all the items of their list in their trolley.Whenever we reach for our board games this is the one that is chosen first despite its simple appeal. It is also great for concentration. My two year old little boy is like a whirlwind at the moment and this is one of the only things that can keep him entertained for more than five minutes. It is great for teaching him the names of everyday things. As we shout of what item is on card we have picked up each game he begins to expand his vocabulary. At first he was only able to recognise a handful of the product, but now he can say almost all of them and as we are doing our shopping he tells me the names of different things.We absolutely love this game and it seems to be a hit with every child that enters our house. It is simple yet fun and lets little one use a wide range of skills while still being fun. It retails at around £7 and honestly for the fun we have received from this game already there is no doubt that it is a great purchased. I managed to pick up the game for around £4 when it was on sale which is even better. It is long lasting even with its target audience, and something that a family with young children can enjoy together.

This game is a great twist on the classic memory games where you turn over a tile or card to reveal the image. In this case you take it in turns to turn over the cardboard squares to see the item, it could be anything from milk to socks - and if it's on your shopping list then you put it in your shopping trolley.The game is incredibly easy to play and can get fiendishly competitive as you pick up a square revealing an item that one of your fellow players needs to complete their shopping and you try to put it turn it back over quickly and hover your hand over it to try and distract from its actual location! I have a 6 year old girl who enjoys playing this and a 4 year old who also plays but only 1 or 2 games at a time.Each game lasts for about 5 minutes-or-so if there are two of you or a bit longer if there are more.I've had a few games for my children and they've been tricky to set, the rules have been overly complex, and they've not captured the interest of me as an adult. But this game takes seconds to set up, and as it requires you to use your brain to remember things when you become involved in the game, it maintains your interest. A nice simple game to play with your little ones, that's not too bad for you. The basic idea is a memory game, as you take it in turns to try & find your shopping & the level of complexity increases with the number of players, (remembering where your item was when another player turned it over 2 turns before). I much prefer it to the catching butterflies/hungry hippos of this world. Fun, straight-forward concept, perfect for introducing the idea of board games, turn taking etc. We own loads of orchard games & most are very good, this is probably one of my favourites & the kids rather like it too! Only issue I have with it is, is that if you loose one of the tiles (and they aren't very big)it does rather ruin the game, (although I can't remember if it did come with some blanks when it first arrived). All in all, a good game for young kids. If you have more than 1 child this would be fine for you to play 'on team' with a child from about 2 1/2y, with help for a 3y old and independently (without adults,) from about 5y. Oh, and one final point, it's a simple game to manipulate so that your child doesn't suspect you let them win, (should that be necessary) although, as it is a visual memory game, (with a bit of luck thrown in,) that might not be as important as you may think; I know a 4y old who regularly beat her 7y old brother without any such 'assistance!'

I bought this game for my daughter who is 3 1/2 and she loves it! I also bought it for a birthday present for one of her nursery friends because we thought it was so good.It's easy to play and the trolleys, shopping lists and item cards are all very sturdy. My daughter insists on having the shopping list with the bananas, sweets and milk on it. She sometimes struggles with the idea of waiting her turn and if she sees someone turn over something from her list she'll make a grab for it! We have to patiently tell her that it's not her turn and that she needs to remember where the item was.I think it's helping her learn the skills of game play - taking turns and sharing.Also helping her memory and I suspect her language/reading skills as each list has the words clearly displayed in an easy to read font.I think we will have to get the "add on pack" for a bit of variety for the adults. No doubt my DD will stick with the same list. It's definitely a game that you can play over and over as it's a simple idea that works very well. I think it would also be suitable for older children.My only complaint about this game would be the box. It's not a major issue but I think the box would have been better with a lift off lid, rather than the tuck in flap style.

Our daughter was given this game for her second birthday, she is now three and we have had lots of fun with this.The game has a simple concept where each player, 2 to 4 in number, have a printed shopping list of items and an empty trolley. Printed cards with images of food on are placed face down between the players and players take it in turns to turn over a card and check if that product is on their shopping list. If it is the card is placed in their trolley. If it is not it is returned to the pile and play passes to the next player.At the age of two she was a little young to grasp the game concept but loved playing with the trolleys and food cards. She soon learnt about matching the images of food,saying what they are and trying to match them with her shopping list. Over the year she has often sought to play the game and included her favourite toys as additional players.The game is made of cardboard which has lasted well despite the usual biting and chewing.At the age of three our daughter now understands how to take it in turns to play, recognises all the products and can match them to her list. It is a fun game that can be played in different ways as your child develops.

We have an eleven year gap between our two children and bought The Shopping List Game 2nd time around for our son who is three.(got rid of soo many games we are now rebuying grrrr) He loved the game which is a great learning tool whilst being entertaining too. So just to add a little variety, we bought both the booster packs, fruit and veg and clothes for Christmas. Again our son loves playing with the new packs and he is learning the names of various fruit and veg he didnt know before. Just one thing though and that is, each of the booster packs comes with two shopping trolleys(which we didnt really need as we have four in the original set), two shopping lists and the small item cards.We would never use the extra trolleys to play the game with more than four people as our three year old couldnt wait that long for his next turn. I was expecting 4 shopping lists and small item cards so was a little disappointed that there were only two. As we bought both booster sets at the same time, we put them together when playing to give a little variety to the game. Great game thought. I have lost count of the number of children we have bought this for who loved it as much as our children.

I teach a Reception class, and the children love this game. Once it was introduced to them, and I had played it a couple of times with them, they were confident enough to play it independently during their 'choosing time'. The concept is simple enough and one that will be familiar to anybody who has purchased any Orchard Toys games before; each player has a shopping list and a trolley, in their turn, they choose a card from the centre in the hope it matches an item on their list. The first to fill their trolley wins. I've found the game encourages the children to take turns correctly, and also improves their concentration skills. They need to concentrate on what other players pick and where they replace the card in case it's one of their items.You can purchase booster packs to keep the children interested and to mix things up a bit. If I had any recommendations, it'd be that a couple of blank cardboard tiles would be handy, as when a game is used this often by so many children, it's likely that a piece or two will 'disappear' and so a couple of blank tiles (with backs that match the others) would be really handy in prolonging the life of the game.

The game is aimed at children aged 3-7, however, we have always found that our children have been able to play much younger than this. You can have between 2 and 4 players playing at once.The rules are incredibly easy to understand. Each player chooses a shopping list and a trolley or basket. The items are placed upside down in the middle of the playing surface and players take it in turns to turn over an item. If the item is on their shopping list they place it in their basket/trolley and play passes on to the next player. If they don’t have the item on their list play passes on to the next player. The game continues until one player has found all of the items on their list.We have found Shopping List to be a really good first game for our children.The rules are simple to understand and it has helped them with learning about turn taking and improved their memory skills. My son, at 7, still enjoys playing this game.As with all of the Orchard Toys games, the quality of the playing pieces is excellent and it is fantastic value for money.We would highly recommend Shopping List to everyone!

My daughter first played this game at nursery, one of the assistants there has been a fan of Orchard toys games for years and had brought some in for the children to play with. When she got home it was all she was going on about so I asked for details and brought her a copy along with the booster packs. It really has become a firm family favorite and is often brought out when we have 15-20 mins to spare or the look of boredom crosses my daughters face, it never fails to cheer her up. We even manage to drag Daddy into playing the game which is no mean feat!On an educational note it has helped her recognise the different vegtables and fruit (the veg booster pack is required here,although some veg etc in the original game), as well as other common household items such as washing powder etc.Anyone who has read my other reviews will know that I too have become a huge fan of Orchard Toys games and puzzles and we now have several of them. There are none that I have regretted buying and they are all well made and long lasting as well as being fun and educational.

I initially bought this for my older boy who was 4 at the time and really good at remembering things. So we played it as it is intended to be played. We placed the tiles faced down and then took turns in remembering where each of our tiles was. If we picked one that wasnt on our shopping list we would put it back and give someone else a chance to remember where it was and pick it up himself. However now that my 3.5 year old younger boy has joined in, because he isnt as good at remembering where the tiles are, we just take turns in picking a tile and handing it to whoever has it on his/her shopping list. The first one to fill his cart is the winner. So an easier way to play it, but it still gets competitive.I can see how it can eventually get boring, but for now, it is a lifesaver and for that I am thankful. We also have the one with the gorilla munching on junk food, which is of a similar type. Also entertaining, although it left my kids wondering why on earth we were throwing away a decent pizza!

This is a good game and it's good quality card that's used. We havnt been able to play it properly due to my 2 and a half year old messing it up but my 4 year old did like it. The only reason (s) I've given it 4 stars and not 5 is because 1 both my kids enjoyed pressing the shopping back into the cards we pushed them out of so I think that's a very simple thing they could have done to make the game more fun - put a grid on the trolley that they press the groceries into.And 2 at the end of the day it is just card, no gimmicks. I think that ties in with my first point about adjusting the trolley a little. It wouldn't look like just bits of card if they'd done that.Infact I liked pushing the shopping into those grids as well! :s :$I don't regret buying it at all though. Not been playing it however, as little one chewing on them so can't be very excited about it at the moment. They destroy everything :(

We bought this game for our 4-year-old daughter (or should I say Father Christmas brought it....) and it has been a huge success. How refreshing to find a game which is so simple and yet so enjoyable. Our daughter absolutely loves it and we have played it over and over again; Mum, Dad, Nanna, Grandad, and anyone else who happens to be around.The game has been very helpful in teaching our daughter that she cannot always win everything - a somewhat painful lesson but eventually the message has got home!I honestly believe this delightful game will become a part of our daughter's unforgettable childhood. She loves it. It has also helped to teach her how to recognise everyday shopping items,and it's a great test of memory.Another advantage is that it is so easily portable and we don't go anywhere without it. No batteries required!I can thoroughly recommend this wonderful game. Hours of fun!

As with all Orchard Toys games I found this to be excellent quality and engaging. My kids love it and find the game great fun.The pieces are well made from thick cardboard so should stand the test of time. The pictures are bright and engaging.The game is a good for improving their memory skills and visual recognition skills.There is so much more that kids can do with this game rather than just play a matching game. My kids like to play their own little games with the pieces, pretending that they are going shopping in a supermarket and lining the items up on shelves.I think the pieces in the game could be used for language development with younger kids, or helping to practice reading words for kids that have started school.I stuck some little price tags on the pieces with blu-tac for my older daughter so that she could practice adding items together when playing shop.

I bought this for my daughter for a Christmas present. I was looking for something educational as well as fun and this rated highly in the top 100 games on Amazon and wasn't over priced. We played it on Christmas day with some of the family and it was fun and got very competitive!There are 4 shopping carts and 4 shopping lists and basically each player gets a cart and a shopping list and all the tiles are turned upside down and each player in turn lifts up a tile to see if the item is on their shopping list and the other players need to remember where the tile is if they have that item on their shopping list. First one with a full cart wins.I bought the clothes booster pack to go with the game to enable up to 6 players.My 3 year old loves it as does her 5 year old friend,11 year old step sister, 26 year old mother and 50 year old grandparents!

This is a total hit with my 3 year old. He tends to enjoy running around outside to playing quiet games inside, but this is the exception! He doesn't have a long concentration span and this game lasts about 10 minutes which is perfect. It has really helped him learn to take turns, and he enjoys the memory element of the game. It's made of sturdy cardboard and so far is in perfect conditions despite hours of playing. Aside from actually playing the game, he enjoys talking about the different items in the shopping trolley and what he might use them for - for example he said he wanted to make pancakes with the milk card, so then we tried to work out what other cards we would need and if there were any things not in the game we would need to include too,so it's great for conversations and imaginative play. Such good value for hours of fun.
