This is a great stand-alone kit for Lego or Ninjago enthusiasts as it contains enough items to provide a complete playlet. A couple of heroes to go with the dragon, a handful of baddies to accompany the helicopter, and the golden armour deco mean that, once you’re done with the fun of building it, you can start playing out your fantasy scenarios. The build is not terribly challenging, if you respect the age guide. With the symmetries of the dragon you end up doing everything twice, but there are enough pieces that it can occupy you for about 2-3 hours all in. It is quite satisfying as well thanks to the amount of articulation on the dragon, which also makes it quite pose-able once complete. The helicopter can have the blades spun by a finger when holding it one-handed and it can also shoot little ‘bullets’.At first I thought this would be a great candidate for some stop-motion animation, but the legs are missing their knee joints, which restricts their movement. There are so many pieces in the chest, making it so heavy, that any pose that doesn’t keep the front legs almost straight ends in them collapsing under the strain. The tail is slightly strange. Most of the joints are quite stiff, by the one with the manual cog on it is very loose, so it flaps about uncontrollably most of the time. Try to position it while the dragon is leaving and it will flop to the lowest side. The head and mouth can be quite expressive, with a large jaw movement and ‘ears’ that can swivel (as can the horns, weirdly). You don’t need to be a Ninjago fan to enjoy this kit. Who doesn’t like dragons, after all? Like all Lego it seems a little pricey and any rigorous play will results in pieces getting knocked off, but between the enjoyment of building it and the fun to be had playing dragon chasers, treasure hunters and so on it seems reasonable at the end of the day. Great fun!

As standard for Lego sets nowadays, this is pretty impressive. Based on the Lego Ninja movie (there is a TV series as well) this set provides a series of characters, vehicles and storyline to keep young Lego fans amused for hours. For children who already have a set in this series, I definitely recommend it - they will love it and play it for hours. The only caveat I add is for readers looking perhaps to buy a Lego kit for a relative and unsure what to get - this is fairly specialised.. there are lots of quite custom pieces so the enjoyment is very much in making the kit as per instructions rather than the old-school Lego theory of making something up and it all ending up in a general box.If you do that with this kit, it will be lost forever. As usual I would say this is good for 7+ so a bit younger than the audience on the box, but it's only a guide.

Lego has certainly changed from the days when I used to play with it as a lad. This set is excellent, and a real step forward from the earlier Ninja series of Lego sets. Based on the Lego Ninjago movie & Masters of Spinjitzu TV series, this set gives you six characters, helicopter, and Firstbourne Dragon. All the pieces are (as usual) beautifully made, and sometimes quite challenging to assemble. This set provided my kids with hours of fun, and looks great now it has been assembled. The functionality of the Firstbourne Dragon is great, and although the set is expensive, it is worth every penny. My son collects these Ninjago sets, so this was an excellent new addition to his collection. We will be buying more of them. Excellent product, and nice to find something that drags kids away from computers and tablets for a few hours.

The age on the box says 9-14, but my Ninjago mad seven-year-old son laughs in the face of such rules! I honestly did not help him one moment or one brick. He sat with the box and instructions and built the whole thing over two long hour plus sessions all by himself. There was a little wobble and tearful frustration noise when something went wrong midway through (good training for Ikea furniture building later in life) but the sense of achievement you could see in his face when he finished it all was magical. This is a seriously substantial toy. It's a huge lego set with literally hundreds of pieces. You get a whole pile of the Ninjago characters with it - I was amused by the turkey on the chain under the helicopter to bait the dragon. My son's verdict: "awesome!".

I must admit Lego have upped their game massively lately and mostly towards random developments, such as a cooked chicken hanging from a high-tech helicopter in the latest Ninjago dragon set.The set is complex and takes ages to put together, but it’s great fun. Additionally, it provides good reason for deep thinking and debate with your pre-teen, such as how to bbq chickens from a helicopter exhaust. The dragon looks incredible and the design has been thought through carefully. The many functions of the dragon, ( flapping and folding wings, moving jaws, mouth, tail and legs.) really improve it! With the characters as well, the set really has been brought to life!

Dragon with flapping wings, hunter copter, golden dragon armour, and includes six Lego Ninjago minifigures:Kai, Cole, Heavy Metal, Jet Jack, Chew Toy and Muzzle. Really great set in terms of all the bits and pieces to build. My son likes ones like this than one big build that takes much longer. The Lego Ninjago sets always have longevity in our house, and provide hours of fun and play after construction. My 10 year old can build them himself, but sometimes needs a little help with fiddly bits or pressing the pieces together. Lots of other sets available to create quite a Lego Ninjago world!

This was a birthday gift for our 9 year old grandson. When he Skyped to thank us for his gift he said he was enjoying putting the dragon together so much he didn't want it to end, he explained he was trying to stop assembling so he could enjoy finishing the dragon later. He did finish the dragon later and Skyped us the next day to show us the completed dragon and how it worked along with the helicopter and all the rest of the set, he is still enjoying playing with it more than a month later.

This set definitely has the wow factor. At least that was what my children said when they saw it. The dragon is really impressive and there are some nice little details like the chicken/turkey they use to lure the dragon. If you are into Ninjago this is another great set from Lego

My son loved this. It was a birthday present, and well worth it. He has fun assembling it and then playing with it. The dragon comes with a helicopter and other Ninjago characters that he loves. This is probably the nicest lego set he's got. Ninjago sets are colourful and fun.

Excellent Lego set for any Ninjango fan. Made with the standard excellent quality of Lego, you get to construct Firstbourne the Dragon and Huntercopter. The characters are realistic, for Lego that is, and everything is sturdy.

Really good set. My son who is 9 got this for his birthday and loves it. Wings move etc - he built it all himself with just a little bit of help pressing the parts together fully. Really enjoyed the build.

Amazing Lego set, so much better than I had envisaged, the completed dragon is huge, well made and nice to look at. Very impressed and made a small boys Christmas

Bit fiddly to put together and some of the tiny bits fall off regularly but my son loves it!!! Instructions are very clear and easy to follow!!
