Anyone who has anything to do with horses and has children knows how obsessed they become with anything remotely "horsey" - at least until they maybe have to think about paying for everything themselves! It’s the first time I’ve had anything to do with Lego since my own childhood many moons ago, but I well remember the joys of creating the limited things you could way back in the day.Sets have come on a long way since then and while it’s probably primarily a great marketing ploy, it’s also a great way for those who’ve already got a LEGO stash to obtain more pieces that they might find more relevant to their particular interests rather than just bits and pieces randomly brought together whichwas more what we had to do with our early sets. This set comprises of 3 bags of pieces to create 3 different sections which is great – in particular very useful if maybe you already have plenty of other components and just want to add in say the jumps or riders, which is what the first bag primarily contains. The 2nd bag has the Washing Centre and stable components while the 3rd contains the accessories to finish off the latter. I couldn’t find an exact number but looking at the parts lists it looks like there are well over 200+ pieces which is going to keep any child happy for hours. What I particularly commend if you’ve not used LEGO before or are unsure whether to buy for a child given the complexity of the final pieces – let me reassure you, the 100 page instruction manual is superb!! Every single piece is shown, listed with how many you get (bit like flat pack instructions!) and also large colour diagrams on every page to show exactly how they slot together. And you even get different views to show how they look once completed. I suppose the only tiny criticism I might have would be scaling – the carrots look more like clubs in the hands of the riders and some other parts equally looked a bit odd, but that’s just nit picking. While certainly younger children will need some adult help in identifying some of the pieces nonetheless, unlike a flat pack leaflet, I doubt it will leave you tearing your hair out. This is a superb set for any child and especially those already involved in the equestrian world.

This set seems quite small for the price initially - with just two Friends and two horses, but there is lots of playability in this set - with lots of activities with the horses and the characters. You get Stephanie and Zack, both with their equestrian outfits on - jodhpurs, horsey tops and helmets for safety. Then you have the two horses, Lucy and Paddy (their names are on the stable doors, so you won't forget!) and they come with transferable saddles/horse blankets. Either you have the saddle on the horses back, which allows one of the Friends to ride the horse (actually standing into the back of the horse, but it doesn't seem to look like that to the kids!) and when they are in the paddock or in the stable, you can take off the saddle and put the blanket back on - which takes the divot out of their back and makes them properly horse-shaped again! There are jumps for the pairs to attempt and it's fun to play out whether the horses fly over the jumps, stumble or refuse the jumps altogether! The winner gets to get up on the podium and lift aloft the trophy! When one horse and rider is out jumping, the other rider can look out at the action from the balcony above the stable - if they are too far away, then they can turn and watch on the big tv, which can stream the action, from just under the big golden lucky horseshoe! After a tiring competition, or training, the horses can come back to their stables for a drink in their water troughs, a wash down with the hose, a brush down, some hay and maybe a carrot for a treat.Lovely compact set with lots of playability - great for two kids to play with together, or one on their own. Their imaginations know no bounds!

This is a lovely little Lego set, which if it was slightly cheaper I would give 5 stars all the way. It's the usual great Lego quality and design. 3 bags worth of bricks with the typically excellent step by step visual instruction booklet. There's nothing quite like spending an afternoon sitting with your child building a lego set together and talking about it as it all starts to come together. This is more of an accessories set really in that the main building isn't particularly big but you get a nice range of smaller items, figures etc. along with it.The horses are lovely and the overall equestrian theme will be a massive appeal to many.In some ways it's quite a clever design with the horses and in some ways a bit odd but I suppose it's one pastime/activity that could be quite difficult to pull off in Lego format and has been overcome with two separate blocks in the middle of the horses body...one for when they are grazing and not being ridden which makes the horse look normal and another which is a kind of sunken saddle which allows the figures to ride the horses without towering over them - albeit if you look too closely they appear to be actually slightly inside the horses back rather than riding on it! A child's imagination is a wonderful thing and we've had no complaints from our daughter!

For reasons I think I've isolated to the people, I've never been a massive fan of Lego Friends despite being very keen on their yellow counterparts. Until now, this had meant I never owned a set but would having one change my mind? This particular collection, which is based around a riding competition is quite charming. A pleasant colour palette, a varied and interesting build plus a range of pieces, for example to customise the horses, gives this plenty of playability. While all the elements do come together under the theme they don't connect but this gives some flexibility too. Five stickers are part of the set, with two horses and two characters - neither won me over as they still seem a little out of scale and not as flexible as the classic people but they were better than expected and it's probably personal taste.Overall therefore, this would make a good addition to any young person's Lego collection and I can see hours of fun with the flexibility and playability built in to this set.

The Lego of my childhood was all about build and imagination. By contrast this latest generation is more of a toy, with limited build potential or opportunity for creativity. But that said, it's mainly about the pleasure that it brings to the child, and in that case this can't be denied. The youngest child in the family absolutely loves this set. Without wishing to be sexist, this is clearly aimed at horse-mad little girls, which is a very substantial market. There is a little of your traditional Lego build opportunity, although there are clear instructions of how it's to be done and not much chance for creativity. Once in place, there's huge potential for play, with lots of accessories that allow for children to develop their own storylines and manipulate the various items.Lego has changed a lot and it would be churlish to criticise it for its loss of freedom and imaginative opportunities. This is a simply great toy that will bring lots of pleasure and fun.

As grandparents who have always been Lego fans, we do not like the way in which all Lego sets have become more and more specific in their design and play potential. The beauty of Lego to us has always been that you can make and remake the bricks in so many ways! However our granddaughter has been a fan of Leg Friends for several years now and has a whole "city" set up with which she and her friends play with very imaginatively. This horse jumping playset will be no exception as it is colourful and well made with many attractive accessories. The basic building provides stables for two horses, plus a viewing balcony and prize-giving podium for competitions. It comes with two horses and two Friend characters Zack and Stephanie, plus many accessories both for grooming the horses and for staging jumping competitions. Compared to some of the sets, this gives more scope for creative small world play.

While a fun set to build and with a number of unique pieces, such as the minifigs and horses, I feel overall the set was quite lacking in architectural complexity. This isn't uncommon in some of the mid-range Friends sets, but there are nonetheless examples - the winter cabin, the pizzeria - of sturdy three-dimensional buildings with floors, corners and trimmings, whereas this is one of the more lighter sets, only offering a facade and is heavy on accessories. The 3 in 1 and Creator sets are more varied in terms of theme and in how complex and detailed the buildings and vehicles can be, and I do wish the Friends range could also reflect that - they cost similar prices but lack detail and brick numbers.Nonetheless, for Friends fans it's a nice kit and it's not as if there aren't a number of brick-only sets to buy as supplementation to larger, more freely designed models.

8 year old is lego friends crazy and horse crazy. This was the perfect choice. She was able to build most of it alone, has less parts than the other sets she owns, but what she really enjoyed about this set was she was able to play with it after being built, she was able to role play with the horses and jumping, some of the other sets have been a bit more fiddly and cant get the full use out if them as a playset, but this has most certainly served two purposes, build and play. The instructions are also easy enough for a 8 year old to follow with minimal help from an adult.

I've noticed the pink lego tends to go on sale more than normal lego (referring to all the other lego that isn't pink...don't get me started) so I would always advise waiting for a discount. It's a reasonable set, it's more build and roleplay than build and admire, so it's a simple build relatively. You get a lot of different bits and bobs in it, as opposed to one giant model.Reasonable choice but would be nice if it wasn't so uh...pink and stuff. Come on lego, surely it's time to stop all this!

My 8 year old is obsessed with Lego and horses, so this set has been a massive hit with her. She managed to build it by following the instructions all by herself and has enjoyed playing with it as well. I have deducted a star as compared to other sets in the Lego Friends series, this one is a little overpriced for its size. However, it will still be a great gift to the right child and undoubtedly well received and played with.

This showjumping LEGO set is delightful! The set is a bit small considering the price but you do get 2 figurines and 2 toy horses, which look fabulous and only come with horse themed sets. The horse can be used not only with this set but in other gameplay so fair enough.
