In brief - it's great fun, but the controls are a tad too loose and it's impossible to 100% without characters yet to be released. In boxers - there's two parts to every level pack, namely the level itself and the adventure world that every individual franchise has. I'll be covering each separately in an effort to be fair to both. With the level, the devil's in the details. From an opening screen that's basically identical to the first Sonic, "SEGA!" and all, the presentation is absolutely flawless and is easily the best thing about this set. It features a bunch of relatively short trips to random Sonic levels (Green Hill Zone, Emerald Coast, Metropolis, Marble Zone, Labyrinth Zone and Death Egg)with relative degrees of faithfulness. Green Hill Zone's easily the best, since just running through it feels just like an actual Sonic game, but one or two are a little looser - Metropolis feels nothing like it did in Sonic 2 aside from the Starfish and steam-powered pumps. More zones would have been nice, but the level's fairly long as is, so maybe switching out one or two of the existing zones for more recognizable ones would have worked better. What really sells the whole thing though are the countless little touches. Sonic's fast, sure, but he also gets irritated with Omichao, (almost) runs out of Egg puns and REALLY doesn't want to go to Labyrinth Zone. It's a very light-hearted affair, which does a great deal to paper over some of the cracks in the design. Also, if you die, he does the whole 'jumping jack off the screen' thing. It's great. That said, his controls are... awkward. He's Sonic, so clearly he's gotta go fast, but he goes TOO fast, so you'll often go right past the things you're trying to aim at. His homing attack does show up, but it's too perfectly replicated, as in 'it doesn't work half the time'. Switching to another character is often the best course of action, which is obviously less than ideal. And finally, if you're into 100% these levels, then you can't. One of the ten collectables requires a character with the Construct ability, so unless you've got the Supergirl figure (only available with the PS4 Starter Set, buy it now!), then you'll probably have to wait until they release another character with the ability (possibly the Powerpuff Girls?) sometime next year. Which sucks. As for the adventure world... it's great fun. There's all the regular characters you'd expect along with a healthy dose of worlds you recognize from the other games. TTG really pull out all the stops with these worlds, and they've continued that tradition here. The voice actors are all on point, and there's plenty of stuff to do - heck, there's even a Hidden Palace Zone (and Dr Eggman will taunt you if you visit without all the emeralds, which is way past cool).Unfortunately, I did notice the framerate drop considerably when playing the game on my WiiU, to the point where chasing after the Red Brick Robot was much more difficult then it should have been. This was right after playing the level, so it may simply be that, but it's never happened with any other world, so bear that in mind.Overall though, this was a great expansion to Lego Dimensions, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it. Recommended.

The Ghostbusters Level Pack for Lego Dimensions is a cracking wee package.Obviously the main event is the Ghostbusters level, which retells the story of the first film. It consists of a number of different sections (mild spoilers):• Gathering the outfits at HQ and building the Ecto-1 car• Catching ghosts at the Sedgewick Hotel• Driving through the streets• Storing the ghosts at HQ• Heading to the streets again• Fighting through the hall outside Dana's apartment• A boss fight against Gozer• A boss fight against the Stay-Puft Marshmallow ManOf the five Level Packs released to date, Ghostbusters is one of the longest and it's the one that feels most like other traditional Lego games, with funny cut-scenes taking the mick out of classic moments from the film. The pack also comes with a Peter Venkman character, who is armed with the Proton Pack weapon. It's ridiculously powerful and it's great fun wrecking stages with what's essentially a massive laser weapon. Although the physical toy is a Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) one, in the game you can swap him out for any of the other three Ghostbusters, each of whom have their own sound clips (taken from the film). It also comes with the Ecto-1 car, which doesn't really have many special abilities (though you can turn it into a submarine) – you'd mainly be getting it for the novelty of having the Ghostbusters car in the game. Finally, it comes with the Ghost Trap, which is used to capture any ghosts you catch and drag over with your Proton Pack weapon. This obviously has limited use because if you aren't fighting ghosts then it usually won't do much.In all though, this is a brilliant wee pack and a must-have for Ghostbusters fans who already own Lego Dimensions.

It's a superb level pack, pretty much what you'd hope for. The only niggles were a hang once using 'hire a hero' (Cragger - did not re-occur), and a repeated hang at the end of the level pack (solved by removing all characters except Chell, the Companion Cube, and the Sentry Turret before starting the final sequence). In the absence of Portal 3 ever occurring this is the next best thing.Gameplay wise it's like a simplified set of Portal 2 levels with Lego humour, and a little less menace. My main advice would be to play the levels without using any of the overpowered characters (ones that can fly) - play it the way it's designed for using the Portal gun. The whole Portal 2 cast are back to voice the levels, and they're a joy to solve.I'd recommend (not a huge spoiler) upgrading the Companion Cube to be a laser deflector prior to entering the level pack but not to its final upgrade form as the gold heart emitting ability is fairly useless. The Portal 2 Adventure World isn't bad, but large parts of it can be completed using characters other than Chell. Similar to other Lego level packs, characters outside the Starter Pack will be needed for 100% completion, and also to access a set of hidden test chambers. The levels aren't as thoroughly tested as real Portal (it's possible to get stuck in some areas if the Portal gun is used in the wrong order) but it doesn't really detract from the level pack.Chell isn't especially compelling as a minifig outside the Portal world because they're mute and the Portal gun is quite weak, but they are required to 100% the entire game.I haven't reached the Portal part of the main plot yet, but can't imagine it being lacking. Just as a level pack alone this is worth buying.

Lots of twists and turns, secret areas and levels. Designed so that you can choose one of two routes through the game, so you have to play at least twice to collect all the mini kits. Plays a lot like the Portal consul game. Great if you like puzzles. Love the 'faith pads'. And the faith pad humour. And portals that allow you to put light bridges where you need them to solve puzzles and reach additional areas. Includes gunk that allows you to super bounce or gain super speed. Spent ages in the turret tower listening to the turret choir. 'Held captive by an alien computer' indeed. The humour is what you might call off beat and a little bit dark. This character is the only one to carry a portal gun and the box that opens pressure pads,so will help you ace the other adventure worlds and levels in wave one. I found superman useful for this level, as he has invincibility and can fly. There is an 8-bit Gamer boy dock near the end of the level. And the time travel delorean is needed for one of the gold bricks in the adventure world. Popping through one portal to come out somewhere completely different, made me laugh. The races in the adventure world are doable with a bit of practise and the right car. The hardest was the air race.

Basically this is both a Lego toy and a character and item within the Lego Dimension game. You need to have the starter pack to play the game, but fortunately Lego have stated that the portal will remain the same through out the series and version so will be a one off cost, unlike some other "toys to life" games were originally. The toy is created from Lego and can be build just as all Lego toys, this has an upside in that kids can use it without having to sit in front the screen ignoring every one till they are hungry but also means bits can easily get lost. This will not stop you playing the game as it is the base piece that holds the information (Although the kids may well get you searching for the missing bits for hours,or at least my son did). One other point is that characters from certain 'realms' (i.e. Ninjargo, DC Character, Lord of the Ring, etc.) will oped different sections with in the game, so you will be pushed by the kids to get more so look out for expense (Though has become a reason for my 5 year old to save his pocket money and not just get the first thing he see's)Like all Lego, Seems Expensive but has more use then just the piece in these packs.

When I decided to get Lego Dimensions for my son, I kind of through this in there probably more out of my own nostalgia. To my surprise my son was REALLY into playing as the Gamer Guy that comes with it. He actually has some great, unique super powers all based around chugging drinks (energy drinks, or soda?)However the game level it comes with is where it really shined for me. Enter an old, retro arcade where the games have all broken out of the cabinets and gotten loose. This hit all the right nostalgia buttons and I was SAD when it was over because I had SO MUCH FUN playing through it. Not only THAT, but you can plug your rolling arcade cabinet into different areas to play old Midway classics that are still very playable. Those might not entice my 7 year old as much as they do me, but we can share this and enjoy it together. It's great! If you're out there reading this, Lego People....do something else like this with Namco or something and you shall have a customer in me, my friends.Seems a shame they couldn't license the Simpsons arcade game to plug into in the Springfield level...that would be cool!

The Portal 2 Level Pack is ranked among the best of the Dimensions expansions, and with good reason. Not only is the gameplay great - the Portal mechanics port beautifully to the familiar TT LEGO engine - but the reverence with which the subject matter is treated will put a smile on the face of any Portal fan. There's no question in my mind that the pack is good value for money; sure, the story won't keep you going for weeks, but with the rate at which Valve release new games, the 2 hours or so of gameplay is like finding an oasis of Portal goodness in the dessert. Not only that, but once you're finished the story, you can do a free roam exploration of the Portal World, and therein lies some further easter eggs to track down. And, the icing on the cake (see what I did there), you get your hands on a unique LEGO minifigure and two small builds that I can't imagine being replicated in any other context. If you have LEGO Dimensions, then this is a no-brainer. Even if you're not, a large part of my investment in the system was down to this level pack and I don't regret it.

A short but brief level with fun moments and some funny banter between Sonic and Doctor Eggman. The writing is great, and its good to see the likes of Knuckles, Shadow and of course Big The Cat once again. However... I question why they went for Sonics race car from the kart series by Sumo Digital. They have the tornado which is nice but the Eggmobile would've been a better option with its many forms of transportation. Asides with the vehicles, Lego Sonic looks awesome and very well made. One nitpick is the lack of proper level music perhaps due of licensing but this doesn't count for Sonic Adventure and onwards. The controls for Sonic and one.. Only section for the plane is awkward and maybe glitchy but Green Hill Zone was solid, the other stages were fine but could've been longer.

Having played all the level packs to date so far for the Lego Dimensions franchise, I'd have to say this is up there with Back to the Future in terms of quality. An expansive single player level, which mirrors the plot of the first Ghostbusters film very closely, certainly gives a long 2 hours of play (even longer if you're a minikit hunter) and is a lot of fun. The real gem here though is the free roam Ghostbusters world which is by far the best of any of the open world levels in the game. Busting ghosts as Peter Venkman is fun, dragging the ghosts to your trap in exactly the same way as the films. All in all, a must for Lego Dimensions fans,or die hard Ghostbusters fans wondering if Lego Dimensions is the game for them.

Came quickly and well packaged, the set itself is fun and opens up some nice new stuff. Three warnings however, only get this pack if you really enjoy the portal games, otherwise the additional continent really won't be value for money. Secondly the level and playable world this unlocks is heavily portal based, and the problem with this is Chell is the only character with a portal gun, if you play this with a second player they don't have much to do. Thirdly as Lego Dimensions is no longer being continued it may put off some individuals. Ultimately this is a fun pack, I continue to be pleased with it, but it is also not for everyone.

17.12.2016

We are both Lego dimensions fans and love playing with the different teams and levels.(we have nearly all the first wave and have started on the second wave!)This opens a whole new level which is based on logic and puzzle solving using the portals, companion cube and tower thing to activate different switches and sequences to progress through the portal building.Personally I found this level my least favourite as I sometimes found it hard to work out what I was meant to be doing!!However my 5 year old autistic son loves this level and he can complete each test chamber rapidly whilst I just scoot about collecting studs!!!

Great fun and a brilliant addition to the full game. The minifig of Chell is awesome and both the companion cube and turret are neat little models. The main story level is pretty good, kind of Portal lite. It's not that tough, but there are some moments that could stump less logically minded people. It's a great introduction the mechanics of the portal series and at around 1.5 hours to complete is a meatier prospect than some of the other packs. It's tough to find this pack now, but worth it if you're a fan. The adventure world will take some time to complete making this one a good long term investment. Recommended.

I would have been slightly disappointed if I bought this for its original RRP because the additional level you receive is only around 30 minutes of game play. If you're someone who is looking to acquire as many extra abilities as possible this is a pretty good addition. Homer can break sonic glass and is rage mode can allow you to smash through the walls of light, the car eventually becomes a submarine, and the TV has the ability to blow up silver, then gold pieces after upgrading. That being said, for any Lego and/or Simpsons fanatics the pieces were great fun to put together. Overall I'm happy with this level pack.

18.5.2017

Bought this to go with the starter pack. As it is a level pack it unlocks the Simpsons level, which is great - just like watching an episode of the Simpsons! The pack contains Homer, Homer's car and the tauntovision. As is typical with these packs there is instructions included to build one character, with the rest having in game instructions. I initially thought this would be a real pain, but it is actually fine, and the instructions appear as they would in the book and are very easy to follow. Once each element has been built you are prompted to add the game tag by placing it on the centre section of the base.

An interesting one this. Clearly aimed at the parents and Adults growing up in the 80's the lego included in this set is some of the most detailed I've yet bought for Dimensions. the Shop and the organ are really great and fun to build. The abilities gained from the toys in the game are standard enough. Sloth is like Batman, the organ shaters stuff and the ship has a canon. The level is fun, pretty short (<2 hours first time through, 45 mins on replay) but still fun. It picks up for the 3rd act of the movie and plays out fairly standard. Not as imaginative as the Midway or Sonic level packs for example.
