One of the key features that makes a Creator product unique (in the LEGO universe, at least) is that you can build three different models in the same set. Of course, this doesn't always mean that two alternate builds are as impressive as the showcase variant, but combine this playability with the fact that Creator sets are generally constructed almost entirely from legacy LEGO components, and you have products that encourage more traditional values from this company. The 5770 Lighthouse Island demonstrates why, besides the introduction of new themes of specialised components, the simplicity of the Creator products is only countered by their amazingly clever designs. The solutions are dealt with in creative ways, and not simply moulded into a single element. This particular offering stands out because all three of the models (the Lighthouse, the Lifeboat Station and Seaside Cafe/Restaurant) are equally brilliant in their own way, and as with other Creator sets, are designed to appeal to different difficulty levels. For the younger audience, this means that they may build the Lifeboat Station one day, and then feel confident enough to move up to the Lighthouse in the next.I have to focus on the Lighthouse first as it really is a thing of beauty. It took a good couple of hours (taking my time) to work through, but the end result typifies why LEGO is the ultimate construction toy. Simple things such as the ladder inside a constructed from plates and single-stud elements. The seagulls, which you would expect to arrive in a single mould, are brilliantly made again from little more than a handful of bricks and clever ideas. At the top of the Lighthouse, the railings are even held in place by skeleton legs, and yet blend in brilliantly with the rest of the design. Some nice features extend the playability and cosiness of this product, such as the obvious Light Brick at the peak of the building. I have to confess that this won't blaze your room in a sheen of dazzling light, but the important thing is that it 'works', and can be functioned further with the rotating mirror section (worked through a crank on the size). Arguably the best concealed feature is that the side of the Lighthouse actually opens up to reveal what's inside. The man has a nice little stove (with chimney), a mug, the staircase and a beautiful window lattice. Even the front door is very unusual and fits perfectly into this set.Although the Lighthouse would make a perfect addition to any child's harbour/city, it also makes for a perfect display piece. I'm not one to normally do this with LEGO because (A) it gets dusty, and (B) you run out of space. I made an exception with this product though as it reminds me of the many holidays and trips I've had to Devon, which itself is a lovely place. The other builds in this set are simply nice additions, but I can't imagine that anyone would actually want to keep those designs built rather than the Lighthouse. The Lifeboat station makes a good functional toy for younger builders, and the cafe/restaurant adds a bit more challenge.5770 really is the perfect Creator product at the moment, and importantly for most LEGO fans, is minifigure scale. Although I'm still unconvinced at how effective these 'Light Bricks' really are, they can add a touch of humour to sets such as the Lighthouse Island. All-in-all, this is LEGO at its best.

This is one of the most original sets Lego have made for quite a long time. It consists of an island supporting a small cottage and a lighthouse. The lighthouse is a clever design. By means of a handle behind the main tower you can rotate a sloping brick with a shiny sticker. Light from the light-brick will reflect off this and give the impression of a rotating lighthouse beam. The model looks great, is well-detailed and one of the walls is hinged in order to open and allow access to the interior. There is also a minifig, a speedboat and even seagulls which can hold fish in their mouths. There are instructions for the main model and for two other models including a boathouse.Overall a great set.

This model is really, really good and we had a lot of fun building it. It can be challenging/interesting even for older kids and is certainly too difficult for very young ones. The only problem is that it's not very playable, especially by 3-5 yrs old. Certain parts of the model simply break too easily (eg. the lamp compartment, the roof on the moving wall) and small kids get annoyed trying to "put the lego man inside". It's pretty surprising since the other Creator sets we have are rather tough to break (I mean here: Apple Tree House and Log Cabin) and can be played by my youngest kids without problems. Other than that, the model is fantastic...

Bought this for my girlfriend's birthday and she absolutely loved it (she's developed an adult obsession with Lego recently)The only complaint I have is that one bundled minifig is a little stingy for a set that costs this much, but I won't take a star off for that as the packaging makes that perfectly clear. The fisherman from series 3 of the minifigs goes really well with it too by the way, so that can be a nice little extra if you're getting it for someone... (or just treating yourself! ;))

Lego Creator is always a good bet due to the fact that you get 3 models for the price of one, and this one definitely did not disappoint. My 8 year old son loves Lego and especially anything to do with the sea and boats so was very happy to see this in his Christmas present pile! The different models are all great and adding in the light block to the lighthouse is a special bonus. It is also good of Lego to have a mini figure included as this means it `fits' with his other Lego city stuff.

My son does a tour of the lighthouse. Absolutely fantastic set, the lighthouse is really amazing. Although all three options are interesting. Such a great idea when they introduced the creator sets - because we get hours more enjoyment from them! The nice thing about the box is it fits back together like a cereal box so you can easily keep the parts separate from your other lego. Best for older children (8+) or a parent and child (6+).Go Lego!

As you probably know, all Lego sets are fun and good quality but this one stands above like a few of the sets do.It has 3 buildings that all cleverly use the supplied light brick. My son has been building different things based on the inspiration from the original buildings in particular the Lighthouse itself. This is a must buy for any Lego fan and fits well into the City range as well as the creator set.I cant recommend this set enough

Gave this to my granddaughter for her 9th birthday, which happened to be just before half term. She is loving it, it has sustained her interest and imagination throughout the construction process, and it will have good play value thereafter I expect. Sex- neutral, so would do for girls or boys who don't want either warbirds-type military hardwear kits, or sexist girly stuff.

My daughter and I both enjoyed making the lighthouse. Loved the creativity, Lego seagulls to make! All the pieces were there and the instructions were very clear. I would say the age range is accurate for independent building, younger children might need some help, but if you are like me and enjoy making Lego anyway that''s no great hardship!

The light house once built is superb has lots of nice little features however getting it built is very difficult, my usually competent 11 year old son who frequently makes lego and airfix models with little issue couldn't build it, it was left to my husband to build it took him nearly 5 hours as its extremely fiddly

My six year old daughter is keen on sailing / beach etc so this lighthouse goes really well with the marina. Even better is the 3 in 1 ability to build other models. She is able to follow the instructions with only a little help. This is great value and will last for many, many years yet!

Excellent, me and my friend love LEGO so I bought this as a Christmas present, cant believe it actually lights up and there is three different ways to build. Ideal for anyone into LEGO. Very quick delivery.

Great Lego set, a 3 in 1 design so lots of possibilities and challenge to build. My 6 year old coped well with building (she is a Lego fan!) Easy to use instructions, great to have the light up brick.

The lego lighthouse was a present for my daughter's 11th birthday. She loves intricate Lego and this took her an afternoon of total concentration to put together on her own. The light brick is cool!
