Bought this to replace a Leatherman Wave that unfortunately came into the possession of airport security after a packing error!This is effectively the 'top of the line' Leatherman - with a price to match. I would advise caution when deciding which Leatherman is best for your needs, rather than going automatically for this as it is better suited to some roles than others.It is great for e.g. around the home, and one of the reasons I chose it is the replaceable wire cutter blades (I cut a lot of thick steel and bronze wire, which (after several years use) started to chew up the non-replaceable wire cutter blades on the Wave I had). I really like this product. Leatherman multi-tools are expensive but you can see why when you have one - the build quality is excellent and they come with a 25-year warranty from Leatherman. This is the largest of the Leatherman range and my personal favourite. It's packed full of useful tools and because I have large hands, it's the best and most comfortable for me to use when working.Good points are the great build quality - very sturdy; the rounded handles make it very comfortable to hold; all the blades and tools lock into place - unlocking with a press of a thumb-button. The pliers are full sized and strong; the two blades, the scissors and the exchangeable file/saw tool are all accessible from the outside without opening the tool.

It doesn't take much research to know exactly what this multitool does so I'll avoid waffling about that and concentrate on the rest. This tool feels weighty but not heavy, once on a belt you'll barely know it's there but in your pocket you'll definitely notice it. The build quality is absolutely fantastic, I've gone over every tool, every blade, every surface and I didn't find a single thing to fix, smooth or free up, it's different tools move freely but solidly and the locking mechanisms give a reassuring clunk as the lock engages. The blades are sharp right out of the box, you could hone them a bit sharper but it's so well aharpened already it would barely be worth your time.

Bought the Surge to replace my old Leatherman Blast. Definitely an upgrade and pleased with it so far. The one handed opening of the two main blades is great and so much easier now. Being able to swap out the saw blade for the file is a great addition as well so now I can just order a new saw blade if it gets damaged or blunted. I’m still to get all the bit accessories as it’s only supplied with one reversible bit which are the most common screw heads, the flat headed screw and the cross headed screw. Would have been nice to have a leather case supplied but the one it comes with seems pretty rugged and should last. Finally, the black finish is great, how durable it is I don’t know yet but still,

Wow! I never gave these multi-tools much credence but this one has changed my mind. Very heavy duty, each of the tools is serviceable, really will replace a number of individual tools in my pack. It certainly is pricey but considering the quality and utility it's justifiable, at least for my purposes.Overall, it's a nice piece of kit ... unless you're trying to carry it on in your carry on luggage. :-) (I also have a Ontario Knife Company Bolo knife so I'm always going to check some luggage anyway.)

I brought this as a replacement to the Leatherman Wave which I had stolen. This tool is the Wave's "big brother" and so is less pocket friendly than the Wave.The quality of the tool however is 1st class.....but if you're looking for something to carry around all day I would opt for the Wave instead. Don't get me wrong: this is an outstanding bit of kit...but it definitely has to be popped back in the drawer once I'm finished with it.

Only had this a few days ! Will do another review at later date ! Bloody brilliant this is a mans tool it’s not a tool box but if you have nothing else on you it’s excellent Iv sharpened knifes cut branches cut wires disconnected the battery on my lawnmower made a walking stick whilst out with the dogs and more that’s just in a few days ! I’m an electrician and it’s great if it’s all Iv got it’s one of the best things Iv bought !

I bought this tool back in 2005 when it first came out, it has been used and abused since then, until the other day, the blade broke whilst cutting something extrememly tough. I contacted Leatherman, and they simply said send it to them with a warranty form. With their 25 year warranty, there wasn't a quibble, just checked the tool, and then sent a replacement. Would highly recommend Leatherman or any of their tools.Superb.

The Surge is a fantastic heavy duty multi-tool, but Leatherman has just announced an improved Surge with replaceable wire cutters and the improved unique blade exchanger, which can take other thinner T shank bits from Bosch etc. If you are looking to buy a Surge, wait till July and you can get the improved version. There is also the chance the price of this Surge will plummet, and you'll get a bargain. Hope this is helpful.

This is the best made most useful multi tool I have ever bought. Superb quality have it on my belt. Was used the moment I received it. Although not as many different tools as my swiss army champ it is far far better quality, and the tools it has are the most useful for my applications. Must comment, the scissors are the best quality in a knife i have ever seen.

WARNING !!! Article of very good quality but NOT CONFORMING to the image published by Trekkinn !!! I bought express on this site following the photo (non-compliant) that presents the object with a screwdriver (special glasses) on the left side of the image that I wanted while mine has a punch instead. I would have bought this item elsewhere if I had known!

The Surge is a substantial hand tool with a good heft, which is unsurprising considering the amount of tools available. Each blade is razor sharp and the "blunt" tools are robust and workman-like. It's a flagship tool with a 25 year guarantee, capable of most jobs that need a tool to hand. It will outlast its competitors.

Quite pleased with the overall performance of the tool and its finish, however i found that the screws holding the outer tools in place, i.e. both knifes blades, scissors and saw/file, where too lose for my liking and i was able to buy two tore security heads and tighten to my liking. Overall I would buy it again.

The pliers and blades are great a little disappointed with the tools inside as they are quite loose before you lock them out. Having said that they lock out really well when you are ready to use them. This tool is always on my belt at work, and I use it daily. Overall a great bit of kit.
