I'm not usually a fan of multitools and fancy penknives, because I think they're missing the point; the average buyer doesn't actually *need* to carry a fish-scaler, a parachute cord winder, and a rifle barrel reamer around with them all day. Most multitools on the market aren't really *tools* so much as a bizarre collectable for the kind of guy who likes the word "tactical" and owns more torches than strictly necessary. To me, genuinely useful & versatile tools would be (a) adjustable locking pliers (aka Mole-grips / Vise-grips), and (b) a set of 1/4" hex bits with a hex bit driver. Plus maybe a knife and a screwdriver. Real people can perform a lot more day-to-day tasks with those.I noticed that the Leatherman Crunch has just that, so I overcame my concerns and bought one; and I'm really very impressed with it.The Crunch's locking pliers aren't full size, but they're big enough, and good for a hundred uses - wrenching, cutting, pulling, wirestripping, clamping two workpieces together &c - and you can bring your own choice of hex bits (for me, it's screwdrivers around the house, allen keys for my bike, and metric sockets for the car). Plus, the Crunch includes the usual knife, file, and common screwdrivers; all of them are robust, and lockable. The Leatherman Crunch is a very practical combination in a small package; it's got more of what I need, and less of what I don't. There are no separate bits that could fall out and get lost, although you'll probably want to bring some hex bits along in a separate holder. Build quality is very solid, grip is comfortable, and attention to detail is impressive. The pliers are the most impressive part; well sprung, strong construction, natural feel - and I'm very impressed by how compact they fold up.There's also a lanyard loop, but this not the kind of micro-tool that dangles on your keyring.Stop browsing overpriced matt-black-anodised titanium special-forces knife, fork & spoon sets. Buy a Leatherman Crunch instead; it's a genuinely multipurpose tool. This is what all multitools *should* be.

Well, it's unique. Maybe there aren't as many tools on the Crunch as some other multi-tools but the hex driver built into the handle makes up for it. I carry a dozen hex bits, a 1/4" drive adaptor and a handful of sockets. The self locking plier head replaces normal pliers, adjustable spanner and combination wrenches. One of these tools saved me one day when the battery earth strap sheared off on my chop, I rode all the way home with the earth strap clamped to an engine casing with the Crunch - find me another multi-tool that will do that! The only thing to bear in mind is that because of the locking blade it's not UK EDC legal, you will need to have a justification for carrying the crunch in public. Some people remove the knife blade and carry a SAK to complement but I can't be doing with that. I removed the blade and attached it to the outside of the handle, with a blade parking silo attached to the bottom. The blade now opens with a tang welded to the backstrap and I made up a knurled nut to adjust the tension. This is a truly unique tool, I've got seven of them now....

I bought this tool around four years ago and have since used at home and work it to fix, fettle and fiddle with countless things. It's taken a complete battering and is still solid with barely a mark on it. I also know that if I do ever write it off, I'll get another one for free because of the lifetime warranty. The locking/folding mechanism is very clever and useful for more things than you would think, especially as a 'third hand' for holding things in place. They grip as well as conventional mole grips. However, as with mole grips, they're not very easy to use as conventional pliers so most people might prefer the more traditional Leathermans.I own two multi tools - this and a little Swiss army I use for fishing.I don't think I'll ever need anything more.If you want the Silverline imitation then by all means get it, maybe it works ok if you've got another 50(!?) Leathermans to fall back on. Cheap tools are a mug's game.As another reviewer said - read the instructions to make sure you're familiar with all the functions.

This was strictly a 'want' purchase rather than a 'need' purchase. This Leatherman stood out as different when I first saw it and I put off buying it for a long time. The mechanics of it are great. Opening it up, accessing tools, closing it.The build quality is very good (though I still think Victorinox is better, having owned one for decades)The 'vice-grip pliers' work well (and the mechanism for folding it away is quite interesting). They could be used as the more common 'combination pliers', however those with small hands may struggle a bit.The leather case is of very good quality - thick leather wrapped and studded to form.If it's important to you : the Leatherman will be exposed to the studs on the inside of the case and this may cause some scratching.Note : The blade is of locking type, so this Leatherman cannot be carried around on your person in public in the UK.

This is a great product, I own several `Leatherman' look-a-likes which I keep in different locations, but recently I was asked to complete a job at a friends house who lent me his `Crunch' multi tool as he had no other tools to hand. Immediately you opened it the tool had a quality feel, and the various blades all performed well. The most impressive device is the gripping plier which will serve a multitude of purposes, and the double sided file is also a serious tool that works properly. I was so impressed that on returning home I researched the best price, and placed an order with a Amazon merchant. If you want a quality multi tool that is really useful, treat yourself! You won't be disappointed. One last point it's worth reading the instruction sheet. The tool has a few functions that are not immediately obvious.

I like it that much that this is my second one - the original is now residing in our second home abroad after eleven years of good faithful service. Small issues like no can opener, a redundant blade or two (never did figure out or need to figure out the two smaller blades). Having the ability to lock the jaws onto a piece of work I am doing and perhaps leave it there is a great boon for me - i.e., glue something together and have to leave it for up to thirty minutes to set? No problem, adjust the jaws and lock the parts together and come back in thirty minutes and all done.

Got mine today. I already have a leatherman wave which I use every day. I was attracted to this by the grips . But to be honest that's about the only good part of the tool. It feels a bit flimsy compared with the wave and to be honest , to me seems like it should be a sub £50 tool . The knife is tiny and you have to open the tool to access it. Unless you are going to use the grips all day long and leave them open (as it's fiddly to open up) I would buy a wave or if your budget can stretch, a charge tti. We are all different though. What suits me may not suit you.

Leatherman have out done themselves. As soon as i saw a Vice grip multi-tool i had to have it to supplement my 'Surge'. I'm not disappointed, It folds to a smaller form than the surge but the vice grip is solid. I was straight to he garage to test it and it stood up to all the jobs i gave it. Another addition to the camping/hiking tool belt.Wanted to take a star off for the nasty looking case that came with it (compared to the Surge), but that's not a reflection on the tool and i can always order a another case for it. Overall highly recommended.

Brilliant design, superb finish and execution make this a pleasure to fondle as well as a handy tool!Only four stars as the cheapo leather sheath was like one from a £5 knock off. A nice cordura job would do it.Vendor also included free post, a nice inducement.Shame it hasn't got more (quantity) accessable tools too, but I bought it for the Mole grip, and carry a Charge/Swiss Army knife for the other

Brought it for my son for his birthday..to say he loves it is an understatement..it goes everywhere with him. He has brought extra bits for it and an attachment for his belt..'bout the only thing he hasnt done, is give it a name! Like all leatherman products, its well made, it does a great job and i am happy as well..he gave me his old one! LOL

I bought the crunch and the wave back when the crunch was £34 and the wave was £87.... must be close to 30 years now... still working well, a bit battered but amazingly still smooth - crunch still locks well if a bit loose when it's folded... but 30 years and well used you don't expect it to still be tight...

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband who has wanted this Leatherman for a long time. I saw an occasion to buy it for a very good price. Being a Leatherman it's not surprising to find this 'Crunch' model to be of the highest quality.

Bought to replace my 20 year old leatherman, which gave me excellent service and is still in fair condition but has had a very hard life. Hopefully this one will still be giving equally good service when my retirement comes around

Just what you expect from a leatherman multi tool its my second one the first one I have is still operational the cruncher is just addition to my daily carry when I got out to do my photography,

Just what you would expect from a Leatherman product, well constructed mini toolbox. Perfect match for any other Leatherman multi tool. Rather pricey though. Anyway it’s a five star.
