I remember having an espresso in an Italian shop in the centre of Munich. I was blown away by the smooth and delightful taste, in addition to the hit of caffeine. Naturally, I asked what coffee beans they used; of course Illy.I'm using a Gaggia coffee machine, which has various grinding options and temperature settings. In order to create the same taste as what I experienced in Munich, I had to make a lot of espressos because some settings generated a very bitter syrup texture, but the optimum setting produced a smooth, non-bitter, creamy and incredible coffee.I have not found an alternative coffee bean, which comes close to this quality. I've read some of the negative reviews, and while everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I believe bad experiences will be due to poor quality coffee machines and/or a lack of understanding their own machine/optimum settings. Also, it goes without saying, water quality makes a huge difference. So, make sure you're using high quality water like Harrogate Spring Water, Ice Valley etc.I drink four shots of espresso every morning. My wife generally makes herself two cappuccinos, so Illy gets a thumbs up in our house!

The lack of a capital "I" in the name always makes me think there's a first letter missing.Maybe it should be "Billy" and we are looking at one of the longest-running typos in history. This - Dilly? - is possibly the best of all pre-packed Espresso blends, certainly among all those I am aware of.As many have said, Gilly? is a bit on the pricey side so for my everyday slurping I tend to go with Java-B if I want a therapeutic roast or Colombian if I want something a bit less Stygian. Of course being am addicted coffee snob I drink all sorts of stuff... Silly, some might say. When I have a couple of extra shillings spare, I'll treat myself to a can of Milly. It's never a disappointment.Tllly is consistently front of the pack.It comes in a really cute jar which dents a bit too easily, a bit like Italian vehicle panels. Same stuff, I suppose. So - treat yourself to the real thing - don't just buy Willy-Nilly.It is fresh and aromatic when opened and stays that way for the short time it hangs around.Maybe someone would like to send me a few kilos so I could review it in bulk?

I got the illy classic roast readily ground can as well as these beans, to help me adjust my grind to my liking. I took to these beands and worked my way from there, to as good and better than the readily ground ones. It depends on how one makes the coffee, is it a french press or drip, but to be honest, when using a Moccamaster to make the coffee, if I went through the can in a few days, I wouldn't bother grounding my own. As I don't though, these beans are a must to keep it fresh. Within the reasonable price range there is nothing that I can find that beats this quality and for my friends who smoke,I recommend sticking with this as the top of the line product as they can't taste the difference past this product anyway. The can is very nice looking and I'm saving mine to keep bits and bobs in after the coffee has gone. The twist cap is very well suited for this re-using mentality, as if by design.

We first came across the Illy brand at a local independent rural café/bistro and it has always been first rate for flavour regardless of what member of staff is making it and definitely better than any of the national chains that we have used.At first sight it looks quite expensive, but compared to independent roasters using single source beans it is quite reasonable and you do get 250g in a tin rather than 225g which seems to be the norm.OK it doesn't have the fruity flavours that single source beans sometime have, but it just tastes like great coffee to me and I can get the same flavour brewing at home with an Aeropress or Hario V60 as we do when we are out.Of course coffee is a very personalthing but I would certainly recommend giving it a try and you may just get hooked!

Only really got into drinking coffee when i remarried 6 years ago. My wife would drink coffee when I only drank tea. Slowly I got into drinking the odd coffee when out. For a birthday gift last year, I bought my wife a De'Longhi Magnifica ESAM4200 15-Bar Bean to Cup Espresso/Cappuccino Maker. One of the best birthday presents ever. I don't think for us the high price is worth paying. I like the taste, but have bought many coffees from Amazon and else where and for us other coffees are just as good with the lower prices. I am sure you have the Illy die hards who will say the price is well worth the taste. That's fine but most punters who buy from Amazon are just looking for a coffee with a good taste which cost's a fair price.

I am barista at home, and I love the taste of Italy coffees. In Spain we use to drink a lot of coffee vs the tea here in England so when I arrived here to England a few years ago, I missed a lot of arabic coffees I used to buy there, not the bad ones used at most of the coffee shops in Spain, so I had already tried illy coffee in Italy and Spain, so I bought this again here in England and I love it BUT just for ocassions because I founded a local coffee roaster here in Liverpool with a really good fresh arabic coffee a little more expensive than this but is FRESH. So if you are a good barista just buy fresh coffee and you will appreciate this with your machine.

illy coffee if the best way to start your day. I love having fresh beans which I can grind as necessary to make each coffee that I want. Friends always comment at how great my at home coffee is. I use these beans with an AeroPress and the combination is great. Having illy coffee beans at home means you'll be saving a packet on coffee shops trips. For me I find these beans to be strong enough that 1 cup is the perfect amount, but my partner likes two. The lid fits firmly back on the tin so the beans stay fresh, and the smell of coffee doesn't go all through the pantry.

A great espresso, rich and well roasted (yet not burnt like Starbucks coffee) and extremely smooth on the palate, without the bitter notes of some other coffees in it's class. The jar itself is locked under pressure, like a can of beans, meaning the beans get to you lovely and fresh with a premade storage receptacle. The only thing I would advise with this coffee is that you should buy the 1kg, which represents better value for money. I only bought the 250g jar to try the coffee, though now I can safely recommend it.

My favourite coffee beans for home grinding. The containers they arrive in are a work of art in themselves and I haven’t been able to throw any away yet. Instead I use the empty ones to store other kitchen items like muscovado sugar, bag clips and regular sugar. Others I give to friends for similar purposes. Now to the coffee! I have tried many others, including Costa’s own but keep coming back to my favourite Illy! Buy, you won’t be disappointed. Order on a regular basis and you will save money!

I thought we had a good price for a standard repeat order for illy...but by the 3rd order, the price was back to the standard market price. Had I known that there were no special discounts, and that this was only a gimmick to get me hooked and hopefully not notice the price change, I would not have ordered! You do not find significant discounts on illy anywhere...so this must of been a loss on amazon to get us hooked. I will not be fooled again and after the last discounted order will cancel.

For me, Illy are the de facto standard by which all other coffee beans are judged. If I am visiting a new coffee shop, the Red Illy logo is a sign that I will get a decent cup of coffee, even if the baristas vary in their expertise. These beans are good value for money and far cheaper than in the supermarket, where you can expect to pay £6.55 in either Tesco or Waitrose. They make a great cup of espresso and also work really well with milky coffees such as flat white, latte or cappuccino.

This coffee is not bad at all. Not bitter (read in coffee connotation) and just has the right acidity. It is medium bodied which is pleasant to my palette. I am no coffee expert but couldn't find any particular notes but may be it's just me. I use French press and quite enjoy this coffee. I may purchase again. The tin container is fantastic for the environment and can be reused for multiple things in kitchen. Reuse, gift or reluctantly recycle!

These beans make a great cup of coffee, I use a grinder and a press and they give a lovely fresh, full bodied drink, without any bitterness. Not overly strong but nice and rich. I drink coffee black and long, these are ideal for that, OH adds milk and sugar to his and is equally impressed. They’re not the cheapest of beans but for a morning drink they’re a pleasant start to the day. Definitely worth trying if you just enjoy a decent cuppa!

Illy coffee is wonderfully smooth - and this was to the expected standard. My own mistake, I didn't realise this was whole beans, but that wasn't too much of a problem, I just got it ground at a friend's house. The price was a little less than a standard supermarket purchase, but I probably wouldn't bother ordering this online again - I'd just get it when I'm next at my local shop.Still using the tin even though the coffee is long gone!

What can I say?! It's Ylly! This particular blend is fresh tasting and very satisfying. It leaves a delightful after taste in the mouth, that it reminds me of breakfast up in the mines in San Cristobal, Dominicanz Republic. And is just one point behind an after siesta coffee in the city. Now add the usual flowery or blue or golden that you like. Nobody does it better, and I'm sooo glad that Amazon thinks so, too....
