Illy is my favorite coffee. It may not be the best coffee in the world, or particularly artisanal, hipster or anything they'd drool over in Williamsburg or Shoreditch. But as far as mass-produced coffees you can get just about anywhere go, Illy never disappoints. It is the sign that gets me into the cafe, the little creature comfort that brightens up any day. It is instant reassurance.My favorite moment is when - nose hovering - I pull that ring tab up and pierce the freshness seal; that first whooshing whiff of fresh Illy aroma is pure bliss. This is it, the nicest ground coffee that I have come across in my long search for what I like best - and that search has been going on for decades. Everything is just right about this blend. The can sport's 7 coffee bean symbols on it's side to express the strength - and that is what it is too. The taste is spot-on for me - a nicely bitter tang, but not overly so. Even the fact that this 'Intenso' bold roast comes in sealed cans with ring-pull tops is a winner with me. Oddly, I've always overlooked this brand of coffee, thinking that what I was seeking would eventually be found being produced by some obscure outfit with a peculiarly gimmicky name........but no......here it is being sold right under my nose by 'Illy'.

After a few years on regular red stripe Illy I switched to this (the Dark Roast / black stripe) soon after I became aware of it, a few years ago now. I guess it's a fuller flavour and aroma.We have one of the Nespresso pod machines (domestic version) with a variety of different coloured pods but I still prefer the Illy Dark. I think it probably works out more economical too. FWIW, I think the Illy is not as dark and bitter as the Nespresso Ristretto (black) pods.I also make it in a small flask and take it to the office, because it's cheaper and maybe even more convenient than buying espressos, but of course you lose out on the freshness.Ocado recently stopped stocking it so I bought some from Amazon who were efficient as usual; I've just ordered some more.

I am a bit slow on the uptake. For the last couple of years I have been having really bad palpitations at certain times of the day, the worst occurring at about 10 am. It's got so bad that I was fitted with a heart monitor! A couple of weeks ago I said "I don't understand it. I'm just sitting here having a cup of coffee". Doh! It's always when I am sitting having my one cup of coffee! How stupid.Anyway, you don't want to hear my problems, do you?I only have one cup a day, and I like to enjoy it. I had assumed that there would be a great deal of compromise on taste, but, actually, I think I prefer this to my usual brand of full caffeine coffee. I do not feel as if I am giving anything up at all.

Bought this tin of coffee as an emercency measure as we were sent the wrong grind by our usual supplier and had to make sure 100% this was why our espresso coffee machine was'n't working well. We have had illy coffee in the past but we moved on to a stronger coffee from another brand which we preferred. However illy do a stronger coffee in a tin now, we gave this a go for quickness really and it arrived the next day (gotta love Prime!) Have to say we were pleasantly surprised at what a nice cup of coffee it was, not quite as strong as our usual brand but strong enough and very nicely rounded too. No bitterness as some coffee's can be and certainly has a nice taste too.

I am an addict for coffee and I have also worked as a barista for 8 months, so I know a little bit about coffee (oh and I'm 100% italian!). This is by far the best decaf coffee I've ever had.I drink quite a lot of coffee during the day and I like to have a nice coffee in the evening after dinner, but for obvious reasons I can't have normal coffee that late so I go for decaf.I've tried different brands and I was always a little bit disappointed because they didn't taste ''coffeeish'' enough!!! But this one actually does. You can't really feel the difference between caffeinated/decaf coffee and that's why I love it,

Supplied by illy in vacuum sealed tin, initial opened with pull tag on end and screw end cap for subsequent access.This packaging system is supposed to ensure optimum freshness compared to more conventional vacuum bag.I would comment that the force required on the pull tag to peel open is considerable proving too much for my wife.The coffee it’s self is bright, clean and refreshing to drink throughout the day, for us providing a difference to Lavazza Classico which is more chocolate tasting. illy is considerably more expensive than Lavazza and the price I paid of £5 per 250grm has increased to £6.50 which is hard to justify compared to Lavazza.

Summary:I've reviewed the Illy Medium Roast as a "neutral" type of italian coffee. The Illy Dark Roast is much stronger than the Medium roast. Good for use in espressos or cappucinos. Tastes quite bitter but good if you need a pick-me-up. My folks love this roast but I prefer the Medium roast so your mileage may vary.Pros:+ Dark, strong, bitter taste.+ Cheap if you buy it at 5 pounds per 250g can. Note that price hovers around 5 - 6.5 pounds.+ Comes in a neat tin can.Cons:- Bitter taste may not be liked by all.- Sometimes it loses taste over long periods. I'd just chuck it in a cappucino if that happens.- Solo packs are almost always more expensive than the double pack for some reason.

I love illy coffee, I use it in a moka pot, the Bialetti Brika (with the hole cut in the top). It makes superb coffee, I find that the grind is just right which is unusual in pre-ground which is normally made for the middle road. In Europe illy do a moka specific grind but I have never found it here and to be honest I think this grind size is fine. I am a big fan of stronger tasting coffee and this is well balanced whilst still waking you up in the morning.The coffee comes in a lovely tin which is great for keeping other coffee in once you are done, it is a little expensive but its always top quality. The tin fits perfectly in a fridge door so I keep mine chilled between use.

I bought these because I’ve always like Illy coffee, I wanted the tin to keep it as fresh as possible and because I like espresso even late in the evenings. I also have a bean to cup machine but as the hopper is full of caffeinated beans I wanted a ground coffee for decaf. The flavour is good, you really can’t tell it’s got no caffeine. It’s not as good as some of the small batch independent roasters coffee but as far as branded stuff goes Illy really does come out on top. You can reuse the tin if you want but I just recycle mine as I know I’m more than likely going to get the same one again very soon.

This is the only coffee I use in my gaggia baby. I've tried others over the years; blends bought in french supermarkets, costa, bewleys, but I always come back to illy. The reason I rated it 4 stars is not a reflection on the coffee (I would give it 10 out of 5), it's because I signed up to the "subscribe and save" with amazon. When I signed up the 2 tins of coffee were priced at a remarkable £10.50 give or take some pence, but between signing up and my first dispatched order, the price has shot up to £12.50. Not really much of a saving, hence the 4 star rating. Unfair to illy I know.

Normally with dark roasts they taste nice for the first 3 days then taste weak and burnt and horrible.This coffee is absolutely gorgeous and by putting the tin in the fridge like it says it preserves the flavour and keeps it nice for longer.Really smooth. nice faint caramel and chocolate taste to the coffee and the smell is amazing.Co worker tried it and loved it instantly. I went out and bought two more because I ended up getting through the tin too quickly as i just had coffee all the time where it tasted so good.Best coffee I've tried and it'll be very hard to budge on that

I really don't understand the previous review.Illey are one of the very best producers of coffee; ground and beans on the planet, so to suggest the product was not as described on the tin is perplexing to say the least.Whatever - I ordered this yesterday afternoon, it arrived this morning, less than 24 hours later.The price is as good or better than I can get anywhere else without buying 36 units.Needless to say the coffee is excellent as ever, is much appreciated & much enjoyed.Top Class Product & Top Class Service, thank you very much indeed.

Looks like a canister of coffee, but is actually designed to spray a jet of high velocity coffee in your face when you open it. No one ever suspects! Amuse / blind your friends!The lid does advise careful opening, but thats a trick, no one can open it slow enough hahaha. My auntie is actually blind now because of it but it was so worth it! No one likes her anyway. It will cover an area of about 2 square meters with coffee grounds, have a hoover handy.Also includes some quite nice coffee which I tried drinking when I could see again.

I just love this coffee! Also love the Medium Roast Illy Espresso. The taste is so soft.This coffee is perfect when watching late night snooker. Have a cup or two and you won't miss a game by falling a sleep.Unfortunately, this coffee is no longer available here in Finland. Don't know why, because it was a number 1 top seller in shops.I just hope that Amazon will have this in stock so that I can keep buying this lovely coffee from here.It's also great that this is sold in a pack of 2. But don't like when it's an add-on item.
