If you don't like repetitiveness and you have no patience then this game is not for you, go click on something else right now. Luckily i don't suffer such problems so i am able to play this game quite happily.Anyway, yes i've been wanting to play an HM game for a long time but was so confused about which to buy as there are a few. But people suggested that Sunshine Islands is best for the DS and i think they were right. Although been new to the game it was hard looking for a review that told me everything i wanted to know so i'll try to put those things in this review.Yes you can play as a boy or girl, you can choose your name and the name of your farm and when you eventually get farm animals and pets you can name them also so it has a really personal feel to the game.It is a slow start to get into the game, you start out with a bit of money to buy enough seeds but then you have to earn the rest the hard way. The game isn't like Animal Crossing Wild World where you play a day at a time, the days go by quite quick in the game and at first you might struggle to get everything you want to do done in one day. But when you plan properly it gets better.I suggest that from the start you chop up any logs that you see and store the wood in your storage shed, these come in really handy to get your chicken coop and your first chicken, then come the eggs and the money comes in then too. Also, near the beaches you will see love heart shaped herbs and other edible stuff, eat these when your stamina goes down as it really saves on spending money in the restaurants. I also suggest trying to speak to the town folk practically every day to build friendship and don't expect them to become friendly overnight, it took me until the end of the first year before they started accepting gifts from me. And make sure you give them stuff that they will like because if you don't they will like you less. Also when you get animals, try and speak, hold and brush them everyday. Also let them outside on sunny days as it improves relationships. Now the repetitiveness comes in with the townies really, they are limited in what they say. They do say more as your friendships build but it can take a while. Also see which one you'd like to marry in the future and speak to them and gift them as much as possible. I'm now in August year 2, i have 2 sheep, a cow a dog, a horse and a cat and have raised 3 islands! So i think i'm doing ok. But i like that you can either potter about on your farm or search for those sun stones and raise island, you can take your time doing anything. Town folk really come in handy when collecting sun stones too, once your friendship hearts build up and you've gifted them enough, they hand you sun stones. But it's the farming things i really like, the watering my crops, the tending to my animals, collecting wool, milk and eggs. Making my animals happy so they will give me better products. It's all free range on my Eden farm :)

I've played several Harvest Moon games over the years, on both GBA and Nintendo DS.This one is rather different from the earlier games in that it takes place on various islands rather in the traditional 'village'. Yet the basic premise of farming and socialising with your neighbours is very much the same. There are new characters (although most of them I believe were also in Islands of Happiness, which I haven't played).Other games in the series have been criticised for having to use the stylus to move around, which is incredibly annoying for those of us that prefer using the control pad. Luckily, this is back to traditional control pad functions for movement and almost everything else, although there are various stylus alternatives for things if you prefer. As you're used to if you've ever played a Harvest Moon game, you can acquire farm animals - such as cows, sheep and chickens - to care for, as well as pets such as a dog and a cat. Your main 'aim' (although this is very much up to you and how you choose to play) is to make a success of your farm, with animals, crops, etc etc. You can also spend time doing things such as befriending the other islanders, get married to one of the guys/girls if you build your relationship enough, go fishing, mining, learn to cook dozens of recipes, and much much more.An added element of gameplay in Sunshine Islands is finding the sun stones, which enables you to discover more islands to explore and people to meet. There are 100 in total, so there's plenty to keep you busy, as many have tasks that you must complete before you can get hold of them.I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone aged about 11+, who enjoys games that aren't just simple platform games with a quick ending and not much story. This is much more like games such as the Sims, and it can go on for as long as you want to play, with more things to find and improve at all the time. As with all Harvest Moon games, you can play this for literally hundreds and even thousands of hours, without ever reaching 'the end' and having to start over.

Similar to Island of Happiness but in my opinion a better game as you can now use the directional pad to control your character instead of the stylus. An addictive game with plenty to do, well worth buying if you are a fan of the Harvest Moon series.

This game has a lot of elements of the original harvest moon game which I didn't get from a lot of the others, really looking forward to getting into it.
