I'd never even heard of the Campbeltown malt region until a late-night whisky wikipedia wander alerted me to its presence. Apparently the world capital of whisky in the mid-19th century, Campbeltown now only has a fraction of the distilleries that were producing at its height, and Glen Scotia appears to be the largest. Crucially, their Double Cask is the cheapest Campbeltown expression currently available at around £35, and when wading into the unknown, cost is certainly a factor!Although it's geographically situated in the Lowlands, I found this dram to be a lot more like an Island malt - smokiness and spicy maritime character abound, although it's bereft of the full-on iodine/peat thwack of some of my favourite Island malts.Added to this is a distinct fresh woodsy tang from bourbon barrels, and a definite cocoa-y sweetness from the sherry casks too, especially noticeable on the finish. The overall combination is rich, full-bodied, deeply satisfying and generally very well executed. It's a complex and unique dram indeed, but a very approachable one. Don't worry about the lack of age statement - I am by no means an expert, but would guesstimate that this is made from barrels aged for around 8 years, as there's very little of the raw youthful tang of alcohol spirit and wood juice even at 46% ABV. I'll certainly return to this one.

What a find this distillery is! If, like me, you're a big fan of Ralfy's you tube channel, you might have noticed that the Glen scotia 15 Yr old got 92 percent, which must be close to the 'best bang for buck' prize on his channel, even after 800+ reviews. Anyway, I bought a bottle of the 15 and really enjoyed it. A top quality 'integrity' (age statement, non chill filtered, natural colour and 46+% abv) bottling. Now, I usually don't enjoy smokey, peaty whiskey's, but the 15 has a hint of this and I still loved it. Thought I'd give this double cask ago. Especially as the master distiller, Iaian McAlister, stated that this was his go-to dram of a Friday evening. And I can see why! Absolutely stonking stuff!Very very smooth, lots of vanilla. Maybe not the longest finish in the world but a fabulous 'every day' dram. You can taste the quality of the casks in every sip. No statement of 'natural colour' so probably some E150 in this, but for less than £35 I absolutely can't complain. One of my absolute faves is Aberlour 12 yr old and I think this might just pip it. Highly, highly recommended

Terrific whisky at a terrific price point.46%, non-chill filtered. Unfortunately caramel colouring has been added but for 99% of drinkers this doesn't make a difference.Easy arrival, honey, vanilla and a touch of smoked salt on the palate, and a long pepper yet sweet finish.May be the best whisky you can get for <£35. Very accessible yet complicated. If you are looking for something with an age statement that is comparable in price and quality try the Glen Cadam 10 Year Old. Similarly accessible but with no added colour and the provenance that comes with an age statement.

We were trying to tidy up our bar and consolidate our single malts. We landed on this as our "campbeltown". Its very quickly become one of our favourite malts!Nose: vanilla, fruits, light meadowy wood. Pallate: caramel fudge, wild herb and flora.Finish: short, sherry, light spice.By no means a stand out malt, but a very good value, all round appeal, tastes above its price bracket.

I was looking for something from Campbelltown to finish off a small collection from all of the regions for a gathering. It proved to be the favoriete of almost everyone who tasted it. An ageless fabricated whisky that left many whisky connoisseurs asking what it was. A fabulous affordable whisky.

Such a lovely Whisky. It's quite similar to Glengoyne 10 year. If you haven't tried either and you like a nice non peaty whisky with lots of flavour I recommend both. And get a glenfarclas 15 if you have the money to splash out. All 3 are quite similar and are in my top 5 favourite drams.

We went on a whiskey tour in Edinburgh and of course the "big 4" featured in terms of regions. The guide was great tho, he said try a Glen Scotia even though they didn't stock it in their shop and I was "sold" on it there and then. A lovely drop

Really nice, strong flavour... slightly smokey and slightly woody. Will be buying again. Bought in Scotland once for £40 and loved it, so the fact that I can get it delivered and for cheaper than £40, well worth it for me.

Don't let the no age statement put you off in anyway, this is a Top Dram. Incredibly smooth. Lovely Carmel taste and has a very sweet finish.I would say this is up there with the Glenfarclas 15 and Arberlour Abunadh

I like this dram, fruity on the nose, toffee-fudge on the palate, with hints of brine and a little peat on the finish. Would recommend if you like this style, a good solid NAS whisky.

Bought as a Christmas present from a friend who said it was so nice he was saving it for special occasions as he could easily drink it in one go.

I'm not a whiskey drinker, but my partner loved it. He said it's one on the best cheaper whiskeys on the market.
