£20 per bottle is a crowded market for whiskies. It is a step up from the mass market blends and the big international brands but not quite in the sophisticated single malts that are made in low volumes using ancient techniques. Not that there is anything specifically bad about blends and good about single malts. Here we have a single malt from Speyside which is renowned for its delicate complex flavours. The bottle is well labelled and the packaging looks like a more exclusive product that it actually is. Tamnavulin is not a household name and you may be fooled into thinking that this is actually an exclusive single malt that has the whisky connoisseurs frothing into their drams. Sadly, it is not.White & Mackay's founded the Tamnavulin distillery in the 1960's in order to increase capacity of their own blended Scotch, it then closed and it wasn't until relatively recently (2007) that the owners re-opened the distillery and started to market Tamnavulin as a stand alone product. The "brand" is now owned by a group called Alliance Global Group which, amongst other things, operates McDonalds hamburger restaurants in the Philippines.Although this whisky does not have a great heritage, I would suggest that this would be a good starting point if anyone wants to find out what a Speyside malt is like. It is delicately flavoured and has a decent finish and is not too bad at all particularly at this price.

So I bought this bottle of whisky, and I opened it, savoured the delightful aroma and I poured my first glass.I like my whisky neat; no water, no ice. So that's how this went in, and I got the full impact of the flavour. This is a sublime example of a Speyside malt. It's a touch lighter than other malts I've experienced of this type, and is smooth and easy going. It's really hard to give a comparative review, as I've had many Speyside whiskies over the years, most were priced much higher than this. And they've all been 5 stars, I don't recall ever having one I didn't appreciate and enjoy. This is no different, and is a fine example of Speyside single malts. One word of warning...Don't leave the bottle lying around. I did and most of the whisky was stolen during the next few days. Despite being the only whisky drinker in my house, my bottle was emptied without me even noticing...

I saw this on a shelf at a supermarket. I had never heard of it. I liked the taste description - all the things I love. It was on offer and I decided to give it a try. Wow, so happy I took the chance! Is all I can say. The taste is superb and I accidentally discovered it goes really well with curry - we were eating a green curry the first night I tried it! Then I discovered it was being sold on Amazon at an even more competitive price so signed up for regular deliveries. (Not too often, of course !!). For me, this is the best whiskey I have yet tried so I highly recommend you giving it a try too!

Smooth and satisfying, slips down a treat. The liquid gold has a order full aroma of the Highlands, peat and kilts. Smokey with a touch of sporran and above all delightful.Sampled on Xmas day with my daughters chosen chap, as this was my preferred gift.We agreed it was an excellent tipple and gave us the feel of single malt Edinburgh, rather than the cheap Glaswegian swill. The vessel arrived in a sturdy box, with square corners, so daughters who cannot wrap aa present make a reasonable job of it and thus was also happy with the choice. Most excellent, what?

This is a beautiful whisky for the money, nothing else comes close on RRP. I like to imagine it as a bit of a cowboy whisky, the type you have in a jacket pocket to keep you warm while out on the plains.Yes it’s not got the depth or complexity of more expensive whiskies and the finish can be a little harsh to some.At £20 it’s unbeatable. If however you go to £25 and get something discounted there’s a whole other world of talisker Skye, Glenmorangie 10, various walkers and Daniels - all of which are much better whiskies, but aren’t consistently £20

Makes a nice gift. Bit rough on the palette for those of us that like theirs straight. Needs a drop of water or a cube. The dilution does help bring out the flavour though. It has hints of caramel and I believe apple. Not like distinctive, but like if you were trying to put your finger on the flavour you were experiencing and couldn't be sure. That was my experience at least. It is prominently a strong flavoured, very mildly smoked whisky, with hints of caramel.Comes in a tall box. Cork and plastic stopper. Looks fancy. Goes quickly

I've recently reacquainted myself with Scotch Whisky after a long time away from-many of us vowed years ago "I'll never touch that stuff again". I kept my vow for more than 40 years. Then I tasted a sample of Laphroaig Quarter Cask at Costco and that led to me trying many different brands, including this Tamnavulin. I'm no expert but I know what I like and I like this one. It isn't harsh, has some pleasant flavours and is very drinkable on its own. Very good value. I'll be buying again.

This arrived today and I’ve already had a couple of drams. This is a fantastic malt and frankly I cannot believe for £20 how smooth it is - it’s similar in text and texture to my Glenmorangie 18 that I have, which is amazing. This is the perfect Malt if you drink your whiskey neat and you like a smooth and silky whiskey - I wouldn’t recommend this if you like Peart whiskeys like Jura as an example.I’m highly impressed and for the price I may be ordering a few bottles.

I loved this product my wife liked it as well she loved it a bit to much if you know what I mean. I would definitely buy this product again. If I had to pick my favourite whiskey it would be this one the service was really good best service ever and the overall product is just scrumptious. If I summed up this wine in 3 words it would be lovely scrumptious good and delightful oh that was 4 silly me anyway amazon thankyou very much I loved it

Bought thIs when it was on offer and it was an excellent buy. It was an anniversary gift for my uncle who really liked it. We all like malts and enjoy going to the distilleries when in Scotland and malt whisky has become a bit of a passion. We found this to be easy going with a hint of smokiness - nice easy drink, perfect to finish off a bbq when sitting around the fire. For the money I would definitely buy it again.

Nice colour. Pleasant, mellow taste - with notes of mainly caramel, vanilla and cherries. Light peat and wood notes. Recommend for beginners, or for those looking for a full, yet mellow taste. Excellent value of money: £22 per 0.7 litre bottle. In other words: If A bottle of decent Scotch Single Malt for the price of a good standard whisky such as Jameson. Well worth it.

There as some simple pleasures in this life and drinking this has to be one of them! I lovely colour and a smooth warming finish, not harsh in the slightest but mellow and fulfilling from the first to the last. I would personally, highly recommend this if you like a slightly sweeter, non smoky whisky with that mellow taste and not the heavy peaty taste of some

21.5.2020

Smooth with the characteristic late-hitting cocoa sweet notes that comes from being aged in sherry casks, this is a good 'no age statement' malt at a superb price (£20 when I bought it though I'd be happy enough paying slightly more). I'd say this would be a very good beginner whisky, as it's rich and tasty, but it does lack some complexity.

28.10.2020

I picked this up for less then £20, and I believe £20 is its current normal price. It’s a lovely easy drinking dram, perhaps a good introduction for someone starting their whisky journey.Even for seasoned whisky drinkers, at this price it’s a great shelf-filler to bring out for a session.Definitely recommend this - a great budget whisky!

Not much to say about this scotch other than it’s decent quality and very affordable. The aroma is predominantly caramel and toffee with fruity sweetness throughout. On the palate you get a surprising amount of oak which is pleasant. Not the most complex but very enjoyable to drink if you want something approachable and interesting.
