This item arrived well ahead of the due delivery date, so I was pleased about that. This is an excellent shredder, which I have already used a great deal because I am tidying the office and have large amounts of historical paperwork that is simply no longer needed. The shredder works quietly and produces very fine shreddings that would be impossible for criminals to re-assemble in order to read the original contents of documents. A shredder such as this is essential if you are to prevent identity theft; if you have to get rid of old bank statements or parts of bank paying-in books then a machine such as this is absolutely essential and I recommend this shredder as being suitable for disposing of sensitive documents. The shreddings, by the way, are ideal for adding to the garden compost bin to dilute heavy organic matter such as grass cuttings, which would otherwise form a soggy mess and be slow to decompose.I would caution you that the weight of the machine is largely concentrated in the shredding mechanism, which sits atop the lightweight plastic bin that is fitted with handy castors. I mention this because it is easy for the assembly to overbalance when you are lifting the top off the machine to shake-down the shreddings in the bin.It is important to buy a bottle of the Fellowes 'Performance Oil' at the same time that you place your order for the machine so that you can keep the cutters in good condition and free of accumulated fragments of paper. The bottle of Fellowes Performance Oil is described as having an extended spout. In fact the spout is not long enough to reach down to the cutters so you have to dribble oil on to them, which wastes the (really quite expensive) oil and which also causes the oil to drip all over the top of the shredder. If you can obtain one, use a dropping pipette such as is used for eye drops, to drip a SMALL amount of oil on to the cutters, say once every two bin's full of use. Alternatively treat yourself to a cheap-o plastic oiling can with a nice long spout that are available in your high-street ironmonger. In conclusion I am delighted with this Fellowes PowerShred 62Mc shredder and I recommend it for domestic or small office use whenever prevention of identity fraud is necessary (which is always).

I used to own a cross-cut shredder before this which was very loud and struggled when I tried to shred 5 sheets (advertised maximum sheet capacity). But it lasted me for some time as it had metal gears inside, so I just persisted with it. This week it finally gave up the ghost and I was bored fixing the bodges, so I gave in and bought this Fellows shredder. My first impression when I got this shredder was the sheer weight of it. There is no way this is moving on it's own, especially when if use the lock on the caster. I admit that the plastic does feel thinner than my last shredder, but it's certainly not so thin that it bends when you move the shredder. It's such a good shredder,I am not even going to take a star off for this.I am so glad that I have bought this shredder. While it is not silent, I cannot emphasis enough how quiet this machine runs - you know it's on running by the gentle hum, but it's certainly not loud enough to be heard throughout the entire house, unlike my old shredder. Most advertisers give some random number for the maximum capacity. Being weary of my new purchase, I gingerly shredded 5 sheets of 80/gsm A4 paper - the machine just chomped through them as though they weren't even there. I then tried another 10 sheets of the same paper and the machine managed with no issues whatsoever. I must admit I always shred below the advertised capacity, so I will probably never shred 10 sheets at a time unless I am doing a vast amount of shredding. The next surprise comes when you open the bin to check the size of pieces. I would say that each piece is roughly the size of 3-4 pieces of confetti. Compared to cross-cut shredding, this is definitely far more secure. The small pieces of shredding should mean that emptying will become less frequent. Anybody with a strip-cut or cross-cut shredder can relate to my constant pressing down on the shreddings so they can finish off the last few pages before emptying.Overall I am very pleased with my shredder. It is very quiet, good quality, does what it says on the box and is an improvement of what I already had.I do agree that it's a lot of money for a shredder. But I find you get what you pay for and if you buy cheap you buy twice.

This Fellowes PowerShred 62MC Shredder is ideal for a home or small office and shreds documents to the P4 Security Standard which means it shreds paper into small particles rather than strips - the cut size being 3 x 10mm so a piece of A4 will be shredded into over 2000 pieces. The unit measures about 48 x 35 x 27cm, is suitable for shredding paper plus staples and credit cards etc. plus comes with a 2 year warranty and a 5 year limited warranty on the cutters. In use the shredder is really effective and chomps through up to 10 sheets of paper at a time - the smaller cut size doesn't seem to slow it down in comparison to a strip cut model - the 230mm throat is more than wide enough for A4 paper. There are LED indicators for ready, jam and temperature and waste is caught in the generous 19L hopper. An unexpected side effect of the smaller cut size is that the cuttings take up much less space and aren't springy so don't spill out or get caught around the cutters and drop down onto the floor when the hopper is opened. At the front of the hopper is a handy window so you can see how full it is and when full it is easy to remove and empty.Safety has also been considered and there's a lock system to prevent accidental or unsupervised operation - this is easier than locating the plug and switching off at the mains. The maximum motor run time is 7 minutes of continuous use after which time the unit has an automatic cool down cut out and switches off for 60 minutes, although, in most domestic usage patterns I think this cut out will seldom activate. We really like this Fellowes Shredder because it's a bit more powerful than others we've had, but, at the same time, it's more secure and the waste is easier to manage. With an impending house move I've used it a lot and it hasn't jammed or hesitated once. In addition, the 62MC is just the right size for home or small office use, plus the castors are useful when it comes to emptying the unit especially if you keep it under your desk. The appearance and size of the shredder also blends into most environments.

This micro shredder does not just shred documents, it pulverises them! After the confetti has been stirred up a bit I can't see how anyone could possibly piece anything together again, which is what it's all about with shredders. The confetti is rather dusty though, something to bear in mind when you empty the bin. This is a first impressions review based on having just used it for the first time out of the box.The business end of the shredder (the cutting mechanism) is quite sturdy and heavy, and can be lifted off the base, but you normally would not need to do that because it has a nice pull out bin which runs on wheels inside the outer case. Apart from the mechanism, the rest of the shredder is a bit on the flimsy side which is a little disappointing, but when it is fully assembled it is sturdy enough to do the job, and you can wheel it around on its castors. It has been rated by Which? as being slower than average, but I think it will be perfectly acceptable for occasional shredding jobs. Noise wise, it is fairly pleasant to use as it whirrs and munches through the paper. The opening is just wide enough to fit an A4 sheet in length ways, but it doesn't matter if you put a sheet in at an angle because it pulls it in anyway. Operation wise it has got a slider switch for 'off', 'reverse' and 'on', but it only works when you insert something, which I supposed would help extend its operating time (it's rated at 7 mins at a time, then rest for 1 hour). It could do with recesses on the sides so it can be lifted as a whole and carried up or downstairs. £100 is a lot to pay for a domestic shredder but i'm hoping that the saying "you get what you pay for" holds true in terms of reliability and length of service, if I remember to oil it every time the bin is emptied.

I had been after a new shredder for several months. However, so many had poor reviews in relation to run-times, size of cut and bin capacities. So when this Fellowes 62Mc came along at a great price, I decided to give it a go.This shredder is great. It deals with old credit cards with ease. Some reviews have stated the shredded size is too large, I have found the paper is shredded into very small pieces of approx. 11mm long X 3.5mm wide (actual measurement from a piece of my shredded paper). I am sure if you are a spy this might be too large. However, for most normal uses I think the size of shreddings is very small and I would pity anyone who had to sift through them to try and put the sheets back together!!The integral bin holds a great deal of shredded paper before emptying. Some reviews have stated this shredder is noisy, I realise this is very subjective, but I find this shredder to be very quiet. My previous shredder from Rexel lasted for years and was a great workhorse, but it was noisy and required frequent emptying of the bin, so this new shredder is a vast improvement. When I first received it I had a load of shredding to do (filled a large black dustbin liner) and it did not cut-out once. I do not overload the machine, putting through a max of approx. 4 sheets at a time.Do check out the dimensions as the unit is a fair size and weight. However, it is on wheels and the storage bin simply slides out for emptying. As with most shredders the bin tends to fill up in a slight peak under the cutting heads, a simple open of the storage bin give it a quick shake and all the shredded paper nicely settles.I have also purchased the shredder oil to try and keep it in good order.

Due to the ever increasing deluge of junk male, i felt needed to upgrade my current 'stripe' shredder. While working within design limits it did not reduce the mass or room taken by the countlrss glossy pages so you end up with a box full of springy strands that take flight in the smallest of air turbulance to the great displeasure of my beloved. To empty, i had to remove the power unit to access the bin, usually spilling paper shreds everywhere. On this unit you simply remove the inner bin leaving the power unit in place, which also has a viewing window to see how full it is.You can pay a lot of money for a cross cut shredder,i looked at many specs and this one is currently reduced to under £50.00 seemingly fitted the bill for a home based office like mine.Rolls easily on its fully fitted castors of which the front wheels can be locked, a well thought out format, not to big and i'd suggest ideal for the less able.Very pleased so far with the all around performance and value, quite a heavy shredder unit but you do get good power delivered by it at supprisingly quiet sound levels, due to the separately temovable bin you fo not need to remove it often. It's not rated for munching up CD's, in a way imho a very good thing, as it reduces risk of accidental destruction of possibly important data.I have to say, as one who hates cold calling, vis phone or doorstep there is a very satisfying feeling of revenge being metered out on the scurge of uninvited junk mail, as the shredder mow's through it with both speed and ease. Warming, it gets addictive - ended up searching for anything else could shred but the wifes lingerie draw was put out if bounds ;).

I've had quite a few home-office shredders and usually pay near £100 for mid-quality ones. This is the first that actually feels robust and didn't cost the earth.Rather than the whiney fast squeal of cheap shredders where the speed depends on the load, this has one slow methodical speed of high Torche with a low rumble. It just feels stronger as it it has time to chew through anything.Even the shredded bits are tiny! So what does it matter if the paper is tiny, its still the same mass of paper going in, isn't it? Well, actually, those small, shredded peices close up all the spaces into a densley packed natural pile at the bottom of the bin. With other models you would be taking the top off to press all the shredded bits down from time to time. We've all done it - anything to avoid the hassle of having to empty it too often, causing carpet snowstorms and bits everywhere. You don't have that problem. It holds more and takes longer to fill due to the small sizing and density. Plust, removing the bin just glides out smoothly and no long bits of paper to wait until you've removed the bin before falling inside the unit like other units - ugh! You even have a little window to see it filling!I don't find any difficulty with feeding paper. There is no awkeard lips. Just straightforward. The unit is no taller than most shredders, perhaps just a tiny bit bulkier and its on wheels which feels luxury when moving it out to empty.I wouldn't normally write a review about a shredder (of all things!) but I can tell this is a quality item. Periodically check the teeth for clogging and add machine oil to the teeth every so often and you should be good to go.

The Fellowes Powershred 62MC is a top end personal shredder that could easily serve the needs of a small office. It shreds an A4 sheet into over 2,000 particles, at 3m x 10mm, so it would take a really dedicated identity thief to piece anything back together. This is classified as security level P-4 which is decent enough for most users ... you can get up to P-7 which is 15,000 particles per page ... but I'm happy with P-4 levels of security. We do have a Fellowes W11C which is physically a similar size, but is a few steps down the shredding order, and cuts into strips. The 62MC is reasonably hefty and seems to be well made. There is a 2 year general warranty and a 5 year warranty on the cutting head,so you should get your monies worth out of it.The 62MC comes ready assembled, and all you have to do once all the packaging is removed is to place the cutting head unit on the base. The base unit has castors, so is easy to move around if required, and has a pull out bin. There are a raft of safety features on board, with a lock, the unit won't operate if the pullout bin is open, and there is an overheat light ... very useful. The operation or duty cycle is 7 minutes with an hours rest before doing more, and it makes mincemeat out of staples and credit cards. It should take up to 10 70g sheets at a time, we found anything more than half a dozen (albeit better quality paper) sheets at a time would slow it down.Much quieter than our W11C, and the bin capacity is useful at 19L. also we find that as it cuts into smaller pieces, the waste paper naturally compacts better than strips.

This was purchased to replace a previous Fellowes P58c unit that had come to the end of its life. I was particularly looking for a slightly different design and didn't want one like the previous where you had to lift the lid off it to empty it as this makes quite a mess. This one ticked the boxes with functionality and price.I purchased the 62Mc and have been very happy with it so far. The Micro Cut does means that the shredded paper compacts down far more than a traditional cross-cut shredder as the pieces are smaller and you benefit from the improved security too. It's pretty quiet whilst in use - we've not had much of an issue with someone being on the phone whilst its running, which you certainly couldn't do with the old model. It's easy to see when it's getting full from the front viewing window and you can then easily pull the bin out and tip it into a bag. I'd recommend however giving the unit a little shake every now and again during cutting when it's nearing the top as it can pile up and the back and overflow the bin occasionally. The bin feels a little flimsy, but I suppose doesn't need any strength for what it does, but slightly thicker plastic would improve on the quality feel.Overall very happy with it - quick, efficient and quiet shredding and a worthy replacement from the old version.

My Fellowes DS-1 shredder is getting on for five years old now and has done some good service – although it still works well I was pleased to be offered this new PowerShred model to test. This new model shreds more securely than my older model and turns an A4 sheet into 2000 particles so is ideal for destroying very confidential documents. It will shred for up to seven minutes at a time before it needs to cool down and you can shred a lot of documents in that time. It is ideal for home use and has a safety lock in case there are kids around – but is robust enough for medium use in a small office too. The shredder is ready to go straight out of the box and is a good compact size – not too big and not too small.I use Fellowes shredder oil to keep my shredders running well and the 355ml bottle I bought years ago is still in use and I would recommend it for keeping any shredder working well for as long as possible. The 62Mc is a well made product that works well and could help protect you from identity fraud so could prove to be very good value! There are plenty of shredders in this price range but if you are looking for a bit of extra security then the PowereShred 62Mc could be a good choice.

This is a great shredder, 10 pages at a time, staples no problem (more on that at the bottom), Not to much noise.Castors on the bottom to wheel it around. No setting up as such just put the top unit (the bit that does the shredding) on top of the collection bin and plug it in. The unit creates very small pieces, once 3 or more sheets are in the collection bin it would be nearly impossible to reconstruct them and the more you shred the harder that would get.My only issue is with Credit/Bankcard shredding. It can be a fiddle to get the shredder to activate putting a credit card in the slot. I had to lift it out and drop it in again a few times to get it to run, but once it did the shredder made short work of it.I had 10 cards to destroy so it wasn't a one-off. It's a slight grumble as it did do the job, it just needed multiple attempts on each card. For staples I mean standard office staples like Rexel 26/6 not the stronger ones that a photocopier might use.All in all a super machine for the money if you value security, low noise and ( I forgot to mention earlier) a large collection bin

This is my 3rd shredder. So far this one has performed fine, although admittedly it isn't being subjected to such a heavy load as my previous one which died after a few years. I do think it's important to remember to use shredder oil to keep the blades lubricated, and to try not to exceed recommended shredding times, which can be infuriating when you have a lot to do and need to keep waiting an hour to resume work. However, maybe I'm learning patience as I get older, and I just go off and do something else while it cools down. As with my previous machines, I use the correct bags in the container, but again, the amount of shred that remains on the underneath of the mechanism when you open the door and remove the bag is REALLY annoying. You end up with so much loose shred on the floor and on the underneath of the machine where the container comes in and out that it always necessitates a vacuum out to clear it - that I could do without, but I guess it's likely thay are all pretty much the same.

The Fellows Powrshred 62MC weighs approx 6 Kilos so it feels like it is robustly manufactured. A nice safety feature is the slider button for locking/unlocking the main on/off switch. Handy in the homes where young busy little fingers are roaming. The on/off switch is also a slider movement that also engages for forward and reverse. All switches are place on the top surface for easy usage. I rarely feed in papers more than three or four at a time and this machine coped with those easily. I have not and would not test to its maximum, doubltless there will be other manic reviewers, who will feel their time shredding must be done as quickly as possible and will feel the need to insert a telephone book. This shredder really does completely destroy the paper into pieces about 3mm making it totally impossible for anyone to recognise what the printed material was. No I have not counted how many bits per sheet it produces but I am totally happy with this purchase. Go buy the price is right too.

This shredder was purchased after I tried shredding a 50p coin left inside an envelope in error. (The old shredder, of another make, made a valiant attempt before it died!). The Fellowes shredder is a good shape and the pull out drawer for the 'shreddies' slides in and out more easily than the old one. Instead of short strips this reduces the material being shredded to tiny pieces of confetti but despite this I found it quiet in operation. I am using the recommended lubricating oil and, for the first time I am using the maker's bags in the collection drawer. They make life so much easier and, due to the small size of the 'shreddies' the bags do not fill up too often. There is a good sized window in the drawer so that you can check on this. Very pleased with this machine and can recommend it.

Have moved from a roller blade shredder to this micro cut shredder.Overall very pleased with the shredder - the only downside is that because of the mechanical friction of the cutters, there is obviously heat generated and when run for about 5-6 minutes continuously, the safety kicks in a and stops further shredding. It's then about 60 minutes cool down time before you can continue. This is expected, but annoying when it does happen ... fortunately most of the time i only have a few docs to shred at any one time ... and it now forces me to shred when needed and not stock pile my docs for shredding.Obviously you don't get this mechanical friction/heat with a roller blade shredder, but i still prefer this shredder - just means i use it more efficiently and don't stockpile any more.
