My previous strip cut shredder recently gave up the ghost after a long and happy life, so I was pleased to have the opportunity to give this shreddder a try.A mammoth sized box turned up marked "Heavy", which it was, but not so much that you needed a manual handling course to carry it through to my garage. After removing all packaging I was left with 2 pieces, the bin and the lid/shredder. It was simple to assemble, just put one on top of the other and plug it in.Next test was 'can it take the promised 10 sheets'. I happened to have a stack of invoices printed on some cheap, thin, eco-paper, so I bundled 10 together and fed it in. It crawled through at a snails pace and I was betting that it would jam,but true to its word it went through. Generally, I don't trust the manufacturers stated capacity and wouldn't expect this to last long if I kept feeding it 10 sheets. I went with 5 sheets of average thickness paper and this sailed through without protest.Next test was an old credit cards and an RAC membership card, some paper with staples and just for good measure a few sheets bundled with a small paper clip. The blades just chewed them up and spat out bits, so no complaints there.Last test was the safety cut out. Feed in a few sheets and touch the feed slot and it stopped as would be expected. For me the cut-out wasn't necessary, there is no way I am going to get my stubby fingers near the blade, but this is essential if you have small children who may be able to get access to the shredder and experiment. The paper shreds down to advertised size of 4x50mm which is more than enough to prevent ID theft and far better than a strip cut. The only level better than this is micro-cut or fire! The bin is a good size with a little window for you to see if the bin needs emptying. The motor is a bit noisier compared to my old strip cut shredder, but quieter than some cross-cuts I have used. The motor is a bit weighty making it top-heavy, but it is fairly stable and not likely to tip over.A good quality shredder that doesn't look likely to fall apart with small home office use. Currently this is selling for 75GBP though I think it should be more around the 60GBP mark. However, you do get a 2 year machine warranty and a 5 year cutter warranty - of course the proof of that pudding will be in the eating.EDIT: I have now had this for a month and it has been in use almost every day as I am clearing out old invoices. I generally don't check the bin, but had cause to today. I noticed that on some occasions the cross cut didn't quite make it through, so there were the occasional strips. Some of the thinner receipts I had have been going through and clogging into the blades, so this may be the cause of the problem. Might be worth periodically clearing out and clogging - making sure you power off first.

The lid is extremely heavy but, that tends to suggest it’s better quality/suitable for heavy duty use. My only grumble is that the waste bin below it is too lightweight in comparison with the lid so you need to place the shredder somewhere where it can’t easily be knocked over because it’s so top-heavy it could quite easily topple with a small knock.I didn’t notice anything significant take place in terms of safety features or associated lights but, I will test it again and update this review in case my fingers just weren’t close enough. The power cable is a decent length but, it could do with being a tad longer to make it easier to decide which socket to put it in because if you’re anythinglike me you have lots of things plugged in to sockets around your admin’ workspace.I purchased the shredder oil a couple of days after purchasing the shredder and I can confirm that it’s not the end of the world if you haven’t ordered the shredder oil on time for the shredder arriving because you can start to use the shredder without the oil but, the advice I managed to garner from watching several videos on YouTube is that you need to oil the shredder approximately once after every bin full.I could still read information on the shredded paper but, there is zero chance I could make sense of any of the information because its cross cutting feature means one could never match up all the different shredded pieces.I purchased an extended warranty with Amazon (because in the last few of years I’ve had a couple of accidents with electrical items) and it’s definitely worth it, rather than shelling out for a new shredder. You can also register the standard manufacturer’s warranty with Fellowes on their website but, my suggestion is not to bother as 1. it’s temperamental (especially on an iPhone) and 2. Fellowes advised that the standard manufacturers warranty (2 years) does not need to be registered to be valid (unlike with some larger electrical appliances). Their advice was: just make sure you keep hold of the receipt, which obviously isn’t a problem on Amazon.I do wish it came in different colours like silver and white to go with the decor and make dust less visible.

I already have a Fellowes 48C shredder for my business, but we also wanted a shredder for use at home. With a child on the way I wanted something even more sure than the 48C, which despite having two power switches and a safety lock still had two elements of risk;1/ Forgetting to turn it off after using it2/ Not keeping a constant eye on it while it is in useShredders tend to live on the floor, making them very child accessible. There's always the worry that little fingers will get into the cutters. The 60C has a metal edge around the cutter opening that shuts off the cutters if it detects contact with fingers. I've had a play with it and it appears to work well, detecting all my trial touches all around the rim.I will admit that I haven't tried getting a finger in there while not touching the sides, but the chances of this happening accidentally seem extreme.I was already pretty happy with the 48C from Fellowes, so I had no concerns in getting another from the same brand. Both models are pretty noisy when in operation, but I think that noise is unavoidable, especially with the waste bin acting as a resonance chamber. The actual cross cuts are not as short as confetti cutters, but the level of security is still pretty good. The 60C has a smaller footprint compared to the 48C and this gain is space is also appreciable. Thanks to the finger detection around the cutters there are fewer switches needed to start the shredder and this aids ergonomics to a surprising degree. It is important to get some oil and regularly oil the heads, otherwise you risk the shredder seizing up or just over-heating more quickly. I've seen a lot of reviews where people criticize their shredders (any brand) for failing after a few months but who don't appear to have kept up the maintenance of regular oiling.Aside from the noisy operation I've found this to be a good shredder for the home. It is potentially a little large if you have limited space, but it does add some comfort of mind if you have (or are expecting) children.

This is our second shredder. The new Powershred went for 30 - 40 minutes before stopping to cool down. Compare this with about 3 minutes for our older shredder.Supposed to wait 20 minutes to cool down, but we found 10 minutes was sufficient. We filled three really big bin liners in an hour with the Powershred. Compared to half of one of the same bin liners in four hours with our older machine. It won't work if your fingers get too close to the slot.We had no jams at all.Despite what other reviewers have said, with the window on the front one CAN see the extra large bin filling up with shreds. They probably did not wait long enough before emptying the bin.The window is at the top so one only sees the shreds when they get right to the top. Due to the size of the collector bin, extra large bin bags are recommended to allow the collecting bin to empty straight into the bin bag.We made sure to oil both our machines this time. Neither machine jammed on this occasion. Our older machine has some paper compacted in the middle so we have to fold documents in half to shred them.I gave no mark for 'Sheerness' because I don't know what it means in this context. To me it means either 'the measure of a slope' or 'the name of a town in Kent'.Money well spent for us.

I think this is fabulous! My precious Rexel shredder is a total pain in the butt even though it wasn't a little Micky mouse model! I'd do some shredding and very quickly it was cut out and I'd have to wait for ages for it to reset. I had a massive bag of old statements that needed shredding and I've been put off doing it because it is such a palaver until now. I saw this on QVC for about £60 approx plus around £7 p&p and thought it looked good but wanted to see if I could get a better price. It looked really good in the video munching through loads of paperwork with ease so when I found the exact same model in Amazon Warehouse for £32.01 I thought I'm going to have that.Admittedly the box wasa little battered and bruised and taped up but the shredder itself was in perfect new condition and I no longer have a big bag of shredding to do because I did it all without it cutting out once! The box is now in the recycling bin and I've saved myself £27.98 off Amazon's normal price of £59.99 - I am very happy :-)The shredder shreds very quickly chopping the pages into little tiny bits. It is slower if you shred more pages but I think this is brilliant! My old Rexel one is now in the bin where it deserves to be.

This is again a top of the range shredder from Fellowes. They seem to produce really well made machines and this is no different. The 60Cs is a pretty decent size, around that of a small to mid range PC tower. Its pretty heavy too but feels very well built, like the saying you know where your moneys gone when its heavy. Its sleek looking and sits perfectly in an office, im not sure on the home user though as it is quite hefty.Using this thing is a doddle too, it has a safety area around where you insert the paper so it cuts out if your fingers touch it. It says it can slice through 10 sheets at once, i found it can do this but sounds a little strained so id stick to 8 or less to be on the safe side.It also features a cut out system which stops the machine running after 6 minutes of constant use to avoid burning the motor out which is a huge common problem with shredders.I have yet to test a credit card as i dont have one of the devils plastic friends. But i tried it on an old sky card and it minced though it without a problem. The shredder is a cross shredder too so everything is spat out in small squares!.Overall another top product from Fellowes at a really good price at the minute!

So my previous Fellowes bit the dust (P70 CM 7 sheet cross shred) and I wanted something that was better than that one, which did the job but was noisy and had a metal basket which allowed dust to get everywhere and had to be bagged.I find the current Fellowes product line up to be confusing as there seems to be a number of products which occupy the same price and specification point. I kinda narrowed it down to 4 and then picked according to price.I have to say I am impressed with this shredder. It is fairly large, but not too large that it is cumbersome (I live in small 1 bed flat). It cuts up to 10 sheets and it is relatively quiet. It has an on/off switch as well as a forwards/backwards switch (I found turning my old one off at the wall, underneath the desk, annoying). I like the fact that it is a plastic bin with a window so that the paper dust is contained. It does not really accept bin liners like the old one did, but I just empty it straight into a recycling bag. Two bins of this fill a large London sized recycling bag. It seems robust and well made and does not sound like a malfunctioning lawn mower and I reckon it will do the job nicely.

I have been using an old shredder that is more than thirty years old and is beginning to show its age. I chose the M60Cs to replace it after reading reviews on this site of a lot of different shredders and comparing those reviews with reviews of various shredders on the Which site. Which had two criticisms of the M60Cs – the level of security of the shredded material was not as expected. Frankly, I thought this criticism was nonsense. Practically speaking no one is going to be able to piece together any document that has been through this shredder. The other criticism is that it is noisy. I expected a machine at this price to be a bit noisy, but considering that most machines of this nature only get fairly light use the noise is not going to be an issue for most people. I have used the M60Cs to shred a lot of legal documents. I was careful to ensure I worked well within its six minute continuous use limit and I cannot fault it. The waste bin is light and easy to empty, the top housing the cutting machine is sturdy and well put-together, not surprisingly a bit heavy. For 50 quid it is excellent value for money.

Purchased to replace a cheaper shredder that gave up the ghost. After one heavy evening's use I'd make the following observations:Capacity - I don't think this will reliably cut 10 sheets of all tyupes of paper. Maybe for thinner paper, but on the occasional thicker document there was a noticable slow down.Build Quality - Seems very good. It is a solid thing and I don't imagine it will fall apart.Cut - as stated, thin strips around 5cm long, and a about half a centimetre wide. Just remember not to tip them into the dustbin on a windy day.Speed - for a catch up on shredding 10 pages at a time makes it a long job, suitable for a night infront of the tv,but for ongoing use this is plenty fast enough.Design - This model is emptied by removing the top of the shredder, containing the motor and blades, and emptying the bin beneath. This is difficult to do without any spillage, as recent cuts will be stuck to the blades and float off when you lift the lid. My previous (broke) shredder had a bin that could be removed with the blades in place, that seemed a little tidier.

I am impressed by the apparent robustness of the shredder, it is well made and functions exactly as advertised, the proximity cut-off feature works very well, the opening could possibly permit a very small child's finger to be inserted (although I am not sure it would actually touch the shredding mechanism) but the proximity cut off eliminates any possible risk of this anyway. The overall capacity is rather small for a busy office, but is ideal for intermittent use or as I am finding shredding about 30+ years of old bank statements, utility bills, grown up children's old school / college /university papers etc. in the home - Why have we kept all of this 'stuff' for so long! This unit gives the impression it will last a long time and while providing therapy in the process - Highly recommended, just check the dimensions and think where you will position it if using in the home, as while its not huge it is somewhat bigger than the typical flimsy domestic units generally bought by a home user.

Excellent shredder, does the job well, not too noisy, looks good but some odd design points and it's just not designed right unless you are not going to move it . The on/off switch is tucked away at the back and the panel at the top of the bin which should let you see how full it is, is so dark it's useless. Lifting the top off is difficult - no finger places and it is very heavy but the worst thing is trying to lift the whole thing - the smooth design of the bin gives nothing to get hold of. All these sorts of shredders (this is my third, I'm hoping it is more robust than its predecessors - so far so good) are top heavy but this one seems to have been designed primarily to look good .its fine if you just put it in the corner in an office but not so good if you want to move it about or tuck it into a cupboard at home.

After reading reviews I was a bit reticent to buy a shredder full stop! However, I have a stack of papers that need shredding so I took the plunge. This shredder does a great job, it will take up to 10 sheets of paper but I put around 5 or 6 through at a time and it copes no problem. It seems to be under pressure doing 10 at a time but lesser amounts fly through.I shredded enough paper to fill the bucket and that was less than than 5 minutes so it didn't cut out due to overheating. The next batch (I've oiled the cutters) was bigger and the shredder did need a cool down period. One thing I found is that if you get oil on the entrance to the shredder it seems to think your hand is near and cuts off.I turned the power off, wiped with some kitchen roll and problem is sorted. All said, I really like this shredder.

The shredder in my office at work was c**p, there was no chance of an upgrade, so I sneaked this one in to see how it would cope with the drawer full of overdue shredding I'd managed to pile up. It coped brilliantly. Smooth, quiet, takes 5 or 6 sheets with no problem over and over again (bit unhappy with more) and on top of all that, if you get your hand near the slot it just stops. (safe sense tech). Most shredders have a lifespan so I'm not expecting this to be the last one I buy, but it does the job, produces low volume bits which are easy to dispose of, and sits under my desk looking if not pretty then at least unobjectionable. I don't have to empty it all the time, and it hasn't minded two car trips to work and back, and is now installed at home taking care of the junk mail.

I bought this for my elderly aunt who gets inundated with junk mail. She was spending ages ripping her mail up, and I couldn't persuade her to just throw it straight into the recycling bin, as she was worried about her name and address being seen. I got this from the Amazon Warehouse. The price was brilliant, half of the current regular price. The box was a bit tatty, but that's all. The item itself was unused. Two years later, it's still working perfectly and it gives my aunt great peace of mind. I got her a big bottle of shredder oil too. I suspect without this her blades would be blunt by now. She tells me she never has any problems with paper jams etc.I'll get one for myself whenever I see them for sale at the price I bought this one for.

I had a lot of shredding to do so I wanted something at a reasonable price that could handle multiple sheets. The amount of sheets does depend on the thickness so I usually only shred 5 at a time and it copes extremely without over heating, which automatically turns the shredder off.It has an automatic cut out if anything touches across the top of the opening, designed to protect fingers. It has a good sized bin but it is awkward to handle if using one hand to tip shreds into a bag, it could do with some hand grips. The bin has a window so you can see how full it is but it is much too dark so you have to lift the top to have a look. All in all I am very pleased with this shredder, fast, fairly quite and a good sized bin at a reasonable price.
