My early impressions of this shredder are very positive. It took five minutes or so from opening the box to having it begin its duty of rendering our home confidential waste paper into hamster bedding. It was very simple to assemble and operate with only three self-evident modes - forward (shredding), reverse (to unblock if necessary) and Off! There are some instructions included and they are well presented but (unless you've never used a shredder before) largely unnecessary as it just gets on with the job.The big advantage of a crosscut shredder is that it produces paper waste that would be hugely more difficult to reassemble into meaningful material than those that rely on thin-strip cutting only. This unit cuts into pieces that I have measured to be typically 4.5mm by 50mm. Hence their area is about 220 square mm which puts this shredder into the P-3 security category (between 150 and 320 mm square). P-3 DIN Standard 66399 is described as "Recommend for instance for data carriers with sensitive and confidential information." and I would say that this is an ideal level for protection of home confidentiality though not enough for more sensitive/commercial data protection (the DIN Standards range from P-1 up to P-7 so this is a medium-security device). The downside of meeting the DIN P-3 by crosscutting is that you might be surprised how much can be read on a 4.5mm strip if the cutting happens to run in the line of the text. Obviously the machine is optimised to cut A4 lengthways so if you use it to shred something printed in landscape or smaller items such as envelopes you might want to think about the orientation you use to feed the machine. This device will cope with small staples and paper clips as well as destroying expired credit cards etc. but is not up to the task of cd/dvd destruction and the user manual warns also that it won't shred self-adhesive stickers - presumably as they will gum up the cutters. This is more than adequate for most home usage. While the cutting mechanism has a weighty, quality feel and comes with a 5yr guarantee on cutting blades (2 yr on the whole device), I do agree with the other reviewer that suggested the collection bin feels a bit fragile. Also the supplied power cable isn't very long (maybe 1.5m). I like the look and experience of usage but these concerns cost it a star in my estimation.

I was quite impressed by this shredder. It did everything that the manufacturer claimed it would. I shredded 10 sheets at a time for 200-220 sheets in a row and it didn't overheat - a problem I have had with previous shredders. It didn't have an issue with staples which was nice and everything seemed to work brilliantly.I found that the safety function - a metal strip which senses when you are touching it which then switches the machine off was a little temperamental - i.e. certain types of paper seemed to make the machine stop but simply switching it on and off resolved that.Although a heavy device I wasn't really astounded by the build quality. The bucket which collects the shredded material seemed surprisingly flimsy although the rest of the machine looks solid enough. Also it is quite large. About 1.5 ft at its widest and almost a foot in length. It just seems a little too big for something to have next to your desk.My only other gripe is that although this is a cross cut shredder it leaves pieces almost 2 inches long. I don't think this is totally secure but it is definitely much better than a non cross shredding machine. It also handled old credit cards very well which is a nice bonus. Although it doesn't officially accept CD's I did try one (do this at your own risk - it may break your machine) and it coped fine. Probably not something you should do regularly though.I appears to have a variable gear system so it changes speed quite a bit depending on how much paper you have inserted which can be a little disconcerting but you get used to it soon enough. Thankfully it isn't too loud so shouldn't disturb your colleagues too much should you be using it in an office environment. In summary I think that this is a good shredder which does what it advertises to do well. The build quality is - on the whole very good although the bucket could be better. I am tempted to pre-emptively reinforce it with duck tape to avoid any future issues. I would be happy to recommend this item.

This was far bigger than the previous Rexel shredder I had. Pluses are:1. that it cross shreds for added security2. It takes multiple pages at a time3. It shreds credit cards without a problemit looks nice asthetically pleasing in a pleasant shiny black with a silver trim around the mouth. The central window is great for seeing when it needs emptying however it is not perfect. The shredding 'head' part is very heavy but that probably reflects the mechanism required to shred up to 10 pages etc however the lower body which holds the shredded items, is somewhat lighter and quite flimsy. So much so, that when i took it from the box I thought that one side was split! Each side appears to have a split running vertically down it for what reason I have yet to figure out as this only serves to make it less rigid and once the head mechanism is removed, it becomes quite flimsy and fragile. Luckily the shredder is weighted quite well so unless you take one almighty kick at it, it should stay standing but if it were to fall over, I do not fancy its chances of being usable again. It does shred 10 pages (I tested it!) but it slows to a struggle a little but still does the job. I have not tested it over extended use yet but hopefully it will hold up. My old Rexel used to get quite hot and refuse to do anything if you were shredding quite a bit of paper for several minutes.Hefty price and although it shreds well, I would thin for the money, the build quality of the main waste bin area should be improved. I would recommended keeping this up against a wall to avoid possible falls and therefore possible damage.

This is a very good looking shredder - black and shiny with pretty blue and red lights. It's big though; about a foot and a half high, 10" deep and more than a foot wide, so it takes up a lot of space. That does mean though that it has plenty of space in the hopper so it won't need frequent emptying. It's also heavy and a little unwieldy. It comes with a nifty feature to stop you from accidentally shredding your hand - the shredder slot has a sensor that detects if you're touching it and cuts the motor. It also has a "Jam Blocker" feature which also cuts the motor if you try to feed too much paper in.The motor seems powerful enough and it will chomp thorugh ten sheets of paper, small paperclips and staples and even your spouse's credit cards (but not your ex-spouse's CD's).It's not a particularly noisy beast although that depends on what you're shredding. It's also not the speediest of shredders. My old shredder from Partner's (£15 and probably about as many years old) was rather faster, but it was also noisier, smaller and less capable generally - apart from being pretty much clapped out, it did its job well enough. This one is probably better suited for medium to heavy home-office work than simply chewing up occasional credit card receipts, but if you want to spend more than a ton on something you'll use once or twice a week, then fair enough - you pays yer money and takes yer choice.Best part of it though is that the the fine shred is about as "safe" as you will ever manage to achieve, it packs down better than long strips and it will compost a lot more quickly.I've added a few photos.

First thing I noticed about the shredder was the bin part was veryvalerable plastic, if you were to drop it am sure it would break very easily but am not going to try it though. It deals with paper and card, paper clips and credit cards but does not handle CDs or adhesive paper, transparencies, newspapers, or other types of plastic other then credit cards. The bin doesn't need removing to empty the contents when full as has a slide out section and also a built in safety mechanism that stops if you accidentally put your fingers near the paper feed entrance, also if you don't fit the main top piece on right it wont work as a safety measure till its fitted properly. The bin will hold upto 5 galllons (19 litres)of paper, it cross cuts and handles up to 10 sheets, has a paper jam blocker that prevents paper jams. Runs upto 8 mins then switches itself off to cool down for 20 minutes before you can use it again. It also has auto power on as well as switch off completely. It has a 2 year guarantee 5 year for parts so you should get plenty of use out of it with peace of mind, maintenance apart from dusting and wiping it requires oiling once every shred full the part where the paper is fed in.It can be a bit noisy so you might not want to use it late at night if you live in a back to back with neighbours for instance. You can check out the shredder via video on you tube from the following link[...]

My last shredder just didn't cut the mustard anymore - only 1 or 2 sheets at most even thought I used an oiling sheet thingy!! This one is great - I really love the large bin… that drove me barmy on my last one as it needed emptying quite often and also I had to remove the shredder head to empty it. On this one there is a drawer that you pull out to empty it - this is great and I don't find it flimsy like some other people say they do. It's great and not at all heavy when full so can be emptied easily with one hand whilst holding my composter open. I feel very safe with this shredder…. although sometimes I think it isn't going to shred and then it starts.Very safe - it stops if you put your hands too near the slot whilst it's shredding… and the only time it did block was when i put in an advertising thing that had adhesive on it…. however I just reversed for a second and it was fine.I recommend this - a little too big if you want it to sit next to your sofa in your living room but perfect if you are putting is under or next to a desk.

After spending hours 'un jamming' my previous shredder and finally giving up on it altogether, I was really pleased to see how well this shredder works. It's nicely designed and looks good in the home office, although it is a little on the large side, but will fit under a desk or a work surface comfortably. It also has a sensor that shuts off if your fingers stray too near to the mouth and has some nifty jam blocker technology. These days, a cross-cut shredder is a must and this one shreds up to 10 sheets of paper with ease, you do not have to take out any staples and it will deal with plastic cards too.The 15 Litre bucket holds loads of shredded paper which can easily be transferred to a recycle bin or the compost bin.Although it's quite big and it will shred loads of paper at the same time, it is less noisy than my old 'rubbish' shredder.I'm really impressed with this product

Very pleased with this shredder. It seems quite tough and able to do the job well. From a personal point of view, on our last shredder - we were able to put even very small pieces of paper into the feeder for the cutter to start. But, probably for health and safety reasons, on this model, you have to insert a big enough piece of paper to enable the feeder to grip the paper for it to pass through, otherwise the motor keeps going until you 'do' something, like press reverse, or pass another bigger piece of paper into the slot to enable the unit to grip sufficiently to continue shredding. But don't let that put you off, it's a very good unit.

a really good looking shredder if the is such a thing ,its compact enough to fit nicely under any desk .its a lovely gloss black and chrome .the drawer is easy to pull out of the front without having to lift the heavy top off to empty it, it shreads compitently and consistently with a much lower noise level than my previous shredder and the safety panel (the silver bit )around the shred slot is wonderful, it shuts the shredder off should your fingers come near it .a good looking proffesional piece of kit , great

This was a present for my husband. He was delighted with it, it is sturdy and steady with rounded corners, and it worked perfectly for him.

Does what it says on the box. I was surprised by the flimsy feel of the frame and drawer. All of the safety features are effective.
