Note: The manufacturer supplied a review sample for evaluation, the opinion of the product is my own personal viewModel: ProStyle +7There are a few models in this range the "7" offering a larger 12 litre collection bin, and a paper capacity of 7 sheets of 80gsm paper or 8 if the paper is 70gsm. Front panel controls are manual reverse and forward (at the left and right positions) off and the expected "auto" mode this starts the shredder once it detects insertion.I measured the size at about 35cm height and depth., cable length is just over 1.2 metresIt's quite easy to remove the top part as the front and rear areas have larger cut out sections giving a good grip, though some might prefer a handle (which isn't present on this model) inside a cutter cover to help keep bits of paper in the cutter area. The top slot is thin making it unlikely to cause any safety issues even small fingers can't fit in here (watch out for ties) It cuts off instantly if you remove the lid.Cutting performance was excellent this can take normal paper (avoid laminated paper) standard sized paperclips and staples are fine too, but not CD's, credit cards can be used. I ran this for 10 minutes solid shredding without hitting the thermal cut off and it didn't struggle at all with the workload, but it's not designed for intensive use just normal occasional shredding. If you do get a jam simply use the forward/reverse controls this shouldn't happen often just be sure not to overload it (and with thicker paper reduce the no. of sheets) Running the occasional oil sheet through it every 6 months or so is advised.Any weak points? It's not super quiet (nor annoyingly loud either) it's a little quieter than the ProAction shredder I have myself and cuts faster too. Certainly seems strong enough to cope with the needs of most home users, and the larger capacity bin is also welcomed. A nice shredder and an easy recommendation for this.Model: Prostyle+ 5Somewhat more "petite" in size (around 36cm deep, by 27cm high and 18cm wide) this shares the same styling and design as the +7 model but with a reduction in bin capacity (down to 7.5 litres) and paper load is now 5 sheets or 6 if it's 70gsm. Controls are via a front panel for manual forward/reverse to dislodge paper jams. Normal staples and paper clips as well as credit cards are fine with this. I had one thermal shutdown after shredding for around 8 minutes continuously with a 15 minute cool down required before operation resumed. I can't really see it being an problem for light use I tested it shredding a larger quantity purely for completeness this isn't really meant for intensive shredding. This model is in my view best suited to users have do infrequent shredding, this is mostly down to the smaller bin capacity or if space is tight it's very small and can fit in even a tiny room with ease. The 7 is the one to go for if you are shredding a bit more often, for heavy users the Mercury range is the one to look at. If you want a small shredder and have a low volume of paper to dispose of securely this is one of the smallest I've used but still provides a good level of cross cut security.

I've had this a few weeks, now, and during a period when I was clearing out my study so disposing of loads of old bills. I'd read that it said it would cut off with 2 minutes of solid use and that's not actually the case - as long as you're pausing somewhat in places I've found it lasts a lot longer. I also like the fact that if either it stops partway through a page (which it will!) or it's empty and you position another page ready to go, you'll soon know when it's cooled down again because it'll start working again of its own accord, so you can get on with other tasks in the meantime in the confidence you'll know when you can go back. Having had a strip shredder rather than a cross shredder before,I was worried/put off by the noise at first, which sounds a bit like it's struggling and I was worried it was going to die/break, in fact it's been very reliable and I think it's just the fact that the cross-shredding is more effort on the little engines these things have. You do need to keep an eye on the paper and empty regularly because if you let the box get too full it can become very solidly wrapped around and get in the way of the cutting edges - but if you clear it out really well and use the fast forward and reverse functions to go back and forth a bit, it will clear. I found the sound was off-putting enough to not really use it for more than about 3 pages at once but I think that's my own anxiety rather than the fact it won't cope, although I would try to be careful, if you do shred the maximum pages at once, that you position them very straight - because of the shape of the slot, which is wider than A4, I did find that where I added pages at a slight angle, they could end up getting folded over at the side, which of course means the number of sheets it's cutting increases, so best to be careful to avoid that danger when shredding 5 or 6 pages. I did use it to cut up a couple of expired bank cards and I can confirm this function also works very well without trouble. Overall, I'm very pleased indeed with it.

I ordered this after my old cross cut shredder finally gave up the ghost after 12 years hard use. This is a sturdy shredder that can deal with paper and credit cards (you have to feed through credit cards on their own and although it says it can take 7 sheets of paper, I found it slightly struggled with 5+). I had no problem putting stapled sheets through it. The shredded pieces are fine and neatly done, but it does create some paper dust the more you use it, which means that you need to clean it regularly. I liked the white plastic design, which is sleek and well put together and I also liked the fact that there are handles on the top of the unit and at the side of the bin, which makes it easy to transport and use.The bin has a 12 litre volume capacity, which was one of my main reasons for buying it as it is bigger than that offered by other domestic-use machines and I found that I could shred 250 sheets of A4 into it with no issue. The bin is easy to remove and there's a lock out feature on the power switch so that it won't work if the bin has not been clicked in place, which I found useful. My main criticism of the shredder is that the shredder itself is integrated into the hardshell frame, which means that it's difficult to get to to clean the teeth if there's a minor blockage. The unit does have a 'reverse' function, which can help to unclog it but sometimes you need to actually pull bits physically out from the teeth themselves and the only way to do that is to remove the bin, flip it upside down and then reach in to try and pull bits of ground up paper out, which gets a bit fiddly. As a secondary criticism, I found that all the plastic created static electricity at times, which made the shredded pieces 'float' when removing the bin, which created a small amount of mess (not the worst of problems but something to be aware of). Those points aside, I am satisfied with the purchase and would buy this make again in future.

I was torn :) when it came to choosing a shredder. There seems to be a huge variation in reviews but I eventually settled on this one and I can find little fault in it.Number of sheetsI think that as with all shredders the key is to perhaps ignore many of the manufactures claims and go with what suits you. I see some reviews that people are upset that the shredder claims to do 7 sheets yet only does 5. My view on this is who cares. The shredder is quick and efficient, so splitting my pile of 7 sheets into a 3 and a 4 to assist with the shredder is no problem for me and only requires a few seconds longer.JammingI used the shredder to clear out my home office - around 400 sheets. In this time I had one jam and it was partially my fault as I put an unopened bit of junk mail through the shredder forgetting the sheets were folded over, so I am pretty sure that I exceeded the 7 page limit. With the jam, I have to say it was pretty tricky to get the jam cleared but with patience I got there. Since the huge clear out I'm only shredding only 10 pages per day maximum and have had no problemsOverheatingI'm yet to trip the thermal overheat switch and I believe if you are shredding only small quantities daily you will never over heat the unitNo 5 starsI went with 4 stars because the jamming issue was a little tricky to clear but not catastrophic as some reviewers made out. Secondly the unit was £10 cheaper in Tesco direct. Unfortunately though it was never in stock so had to resort to Amazon as I had things to shred!**Update on 1/4/20 shredder finally gave up the ghost. The motor was strong but a tooth on the main gear snapped. I'd have loved to fix it but looking about the internet it's about £25 for the gear and given the cost of a new shredder it just doesn't justify. 6 YEARS 5 MONTHS of regular usage. Not bad if you ask me

Bought this wee shredder at a discount from Amazon warehouse. Fast arrival, came with damage package but product look good as new with film stickers still on. I had another shredder for 10 years and still working but had to leave it at my friend's. Presently surprised with this new one's performance and ease of use. It is louder than my previous one but it has a drawer type design for the cross cut paper which is extremely handy. As well as a nice padded handle to lift the shredder and carry it to where ever you like. Took me just under 3 hours with rest time to shred a whole grocery carrier bag of document. I estimate that's about 4000 sheets of documents. Tips for non regular paper shredder, make sure you wait until the shredder had done it's job and the shredder sound has finished before loading more papers. Yes, it can shred 7 sheets of paper but if you going to shred a bag/ box full of document in a go, why would you want to stress the machine so much?? I would just load 3-4 sheets maxi at a time and rotate with 1-2 sheets. This wee home office shredder kept going for half an hour before needing a break. The shredder's drawer design makes left mess than the top lift shredder and so much more convienent to empty the shredded papers which was cutted small enough to prevent faudster from obtaining any information. The removable bin is 12L which is slightly smaller than the more standard 15L ones but hey, it lets the machine rest for 1-2mins whilst you empty the bin which is great if you want to keep shredding for half an hour. My years of documents all shredder under 3 hours, well pleased! Great design and looks good in my home office. Let's hope it last for as long as my previous shredder.

This is a very stylish shredder - it can't be faulted on it's looks, or it's efficiency in fact. I find that anything more than three sheets of normal office paper really slows the motor down but for home use this isn't really a problem. If you want an office shredder, you need to pay a lot more and buy something else, more appropriate for the job. This unit has an easy to understand auto on, off, and reverse slider switch at one end. If you find that the shredder doesn't start automatically when you slide a sheet into the feeder slot, first check that the slider hasn't moved to the off position and then check the collection tray - it really does need to be pushed ALL the way in as there seems to be some sort of micro sensor that will detect if the tray is even slightly out of position. But it's not a problem - just push it firmly into place and it works just fine. After you've shredded quite a few sheets, you should check the tray - the shredded paper tends to collect at one end for some reason, and if you continue shredding you'll find it difficult to open the tray. Again, it's not really a big problwem - I just reach in and pull the shredded paper along and spread it evenly - it's a two second job. When you first start using the shredder you might think it's slightly noisy but you soon get used to it, and it's not that bad really. Just think of the very low price you are paying for a shredder that works so well - just don't expect to use it in a high volume location, like in an office. If for any reason I had to buy another shredder, I would choose this one again.

This is a really, really good Shredder for the home/home office. In this day and age of identity fraud etc, it is extremely important to shred any papers that have personal details on.This Rexel Cross Cut Shredder is sold at a very good price. It is a nice sturdy machine which is very simple to operate and has the added bonus of being able to shred those little plastic cards that we all have these days! There are just 3 settings - Off. Reverse and On/Auto. If some paper gets a bit stuck, then just flick into reverse for a few seconds and then back to On/Auto and all is sorted.Whilst shredding the papers, the operation of the unit is really smooth and quiet (unlike the previous shredder we had). The bin that collects the shredded paper is nice and large and is a doddle to empty. No top to take off, just slide it out from the front of the machine and empty the contents into the normal household waste wheelie bin (shredded paper cannot be re-cycled), or use as small pet bedding (provided you have not shredded anything sharp or with staples attached), packing material or put it on the compost heap.I am very pleased with my purchase and can thoroughly recommend this product.UPDATE - We have shredded a lot of papers since purchasing this little gem and have not experienced any over heating or mal-function at all. When you take out the collection drawer, you must make sure it is fully clicked back in otherwise the shredder will not operate. I presume this is a safety feature. Just make sure the drawer is pushed fully home before re-using the shredder.

Using this shredder for a couple of months now. General domestic use, had quite a few backlog to be shredded, it does the job well. I especially like the drawer-like bin which comes out from the side. On the previous shredder the top (whole shredder unit) was coming off. This was causing unit to topple leaving carped covered in shreds.Bin itself is sufficiently large and as this unit cuts paper into smaller pieces it takes much more paper before it is full. One negative point, hence 4 star, is because I don't think it is possible to shred 7 sheets (as per product description) without damaging the unit - at least in the long run. 1-2 page is just fine. 3 page - it starts to slow down.I only tried up to 5 page and the shredder was really struggling. The paper was progressing really slowly, stopping momentarily time to time. There was also an unusual noise almost feeling like a gear slipping or something breaking. It was 5 normal A4 paper, nothing thick or unusual.Minor issue to remember is that this shredder is not stapler friendly. So they need to be removed prior to shredding.Everything else is just fine, would buy it again.Pros:Rigid, decent looking designAutomatic start / stopDrawer-like binConfetti size shreds, smaller than most shredders - more secure, less spaceCons:No more than 3-4 pages (although 7 as per tech specs)Not stapler friendly

Having bought a number of lower priced shredders around the £15-20 mark which were not up to scratch I took the plunge and bought this product, hoping that I it would be able to both shred for a long time without overheating and without having constant blockages.I'm happy to say the shredder has performed on both those points. When it first arrived I did have a back-log of paper to work through. It was used non-stop for about 45 minutes, which was enough to need to clear out the bin about 5-6 times, without it overheating or blocking once. I find if you put in 7 sheets it slows down quite a lot and I'd suggest putting 3 in at a time because it sounds a bit healthier around that mark. The paper is cut into fine pieces, which are rectangle rather than square, but for home shredding purposes I think it offers a more than high enough level of security and I can't see anyone being able to piece it back together. One issue I've had is with the card shredding function. I have tried it with two old cards and though I'm sure they are no longer useable is has not cut them up into pieces. Instead some of the edges have been cut off but the middle of it remains, though with deep channels cut through it.For under £40, this is well worth the leap from lower priced shredders which will block, overheat and offer a lower level of security.

Overall a well made product - however as mentioned in a number of previous reviews do NOT try to put too many sheets of paper through at any one time, OR put paper through for a long continuous period of time, it WILL (and DOES) trip out.Just put your paper through at a sensible rate and it will shred satisfactorily for you.In respect of the paper collection tray I always make sure at the end of any shredding session that the shredded pieces are not lodged in the output of the shredding mechanism itself by:-a) switching off and disconnecting the shredder from its power source, and thenb) just gently pulling any hanging shredded paper out of the mechanism and dropping it into the tray.An update (1st July 2015):-Although the shredder is designed to accept staples,on two occasions since purchase I have now had paper jams/trip outs directly attributed to small staples jamming in the mechanism NB - only one sheet at a time in both cases....) - so I advise that you remove staples first...(it took rather a long delicate operation to remove both staples from the mechanism, using fine tweezers, with all power disconnected...)(I know that it could be argued that one shouldn't have to do that, but it does prevent any clogging up....).So, overall, for the cost it is a worthwhile investment, but trest it gently....

I bought this shredder to replace one who's motor was burnt out through misuse and abuse by another family member and to use at home. This shredder is good as it cross cuts documents hence the security level is good, however the size of the cross cut is bigger than the previous shredder. The shredder also has an automatic motor cut out system if it has been in use for more that approximately 5 minutes. This is sometimes annoying because it could take just as long for the motor to start functioning again, so you end up waiting around, but means the motor will survive any potential to be misused or abused by other family members. The little window at the front allows you to tell when the bin needsto be emptied. It is a bit messy when removing the bin as some of the shredded paper falls from the blades into the innards of the machine. It does not handle the amount of pages suggested that could be shredded as once as the motor has cut out a few times when this was attempted and I had to remove the trapped paper manually. I suppose it would depend on the thickness of the paper used as well.I don't think it is an improvement on the previous shredder but it Is more than capable of doing what I want which is simply to shred confidential documents.

The shredder was bought to replace a Fellows model which had been used for the last 5 or so years but gave up the ghost last weekend. In comparison this model is smaller and quieter to the Fellows of a similar spec. It also has a smaller cut than the Fellows which is better for security.I have found that the automatic paper sensor does need a positive push and as a result it works fine on a sheet of paper but often ignores a receipt unless it is folded over double. It handles credit cards (one at a time) and does slow down when you feed one in. The instructions recommend feeding the card in side on to reduce the strain on the shredder but to me this is not recommended from a security point of view as you will end up possibly with your name surviving intact.A simple remedy so as not to strain the blades/motor too much is cut the card in half and then feed each bit separately with you name/details running across the cutter. In all a good shredder, losing a star because shredding single receipts could be a bit simpler. As others have mentioned the bin is accessed from the side and pulls out. I haven't had any problem as yet of material falling inside the equipment when the bin is removed.

Replaced very old Rexel shredder. I liked the spec on this - cross cut and capable of taking up to 11 sheets at a time coupled with the reduction from £271.99 (how much! - would never have paid that for a shredder) to £69.97(thank you!). Unpacked, setup and using within minutes of receipt. Cleared my shredding backlog over a couple of days. It is quiet and efficient but it really does only shred for about 3 minutes at a time before the induction motor heat sensor pauses for cooling. I think that this is fine in normal use - you come along with a handful of papers, shove them in and leave as it chomps through them. The fact that it can take up to 11 sheets (of 80 gsm paper - photocopy stuff)makes shredding much faster. I doubt that you would get three minutes of continuous shredding of 11 sheets of paper at a time as the motor will be working hard and heat up more quickly than under a lighter load. It is easy to see how full the bin is, remove it, empty it and replace - do keep your eye on how full the bin is to prevent the shredder from clogging up. As long as it is also a reliable product then I will be very satisfied with this purchase.

It shreds a few sheets of paper without any problems, so unless you're amazing at jigsaw puzzles, you won't be putting those documents back together again - Don't try to do too many sheets of paper at once though, as it slows-down and groans a bit!Surprisingly, it seems to keep on shredding for ages before you're forced to empty the pullout bin. However, you're best to empty it more regularly really, as once it gets well packed-in, you can struggle to get the bin out, especially without making a mess.Note: I'm not really sure why, but there are a few holes in the shredder under the pullout bin, which presumably serve some purpose that I'm failing to see - Whatever it is,they don't help with trying to not make a mess when emptying the shredder. So, really I just wish the shredder refused to work once it reached the level where it should be emptied, as it's too easy to just keep on shredding and shredding, and one day end-up with a bit of a challenge on your hands to empty it. Having said that, it does have a view window, so you can see when it's getting full, so really the main problem is that I'm often too lazy to empty it!

I bought this shredder to process through about five years' worth of bills, bank statements and other sensitive documents. It's fairly quiet, compared to my previous shredder. The cutting blades seem of high quality. It seems to chomp fine through stapes and credit cards as well as paper -- but I would prefer it if cards went into their own bin for easier recycling. This model doesn't have a CD slot. The 11-sheet maximum is perhaps a little optimistic. Any more than about 8 and you can heard the shredder struggling a bit and slowing down. It's worth remembering the Rexel's duty cycle. In nearly continuous use it will overheat and will require half an hour to cool down before it works again.I've managed to do this a couple of times while shredding. There is a window which allows you to see when the bin is full. Unfortunately it is difficult to see. Overfilling the bin causes the machine to jam more easily and makes it hard to empty.Overall, this is great shredder for personal/domestic use. It's not an office shredder but shreds fine everything that comes through my postbox.
