Short version: a terrific shredder that powers through the pages with no trouble, and can even shred your credit card. I paid just £39.95 and it is an absolute bargain which will save me untold thousands compared with my previous reckless behaviour. I had around 800 sheets to shred and this shredder powered through them.Longer version:I have files and files at home - bank statements, insurance, tax returns - plus lots of work crap from the endless cycle of meetings. Every couple of years I have a major tidy up, filing new stuff and clearing out anything old. That creates a big pile of paper which I used to throw in the recycling. Yes, I was one of THOSE people, who can't understand how their identity got stolen and wants to blame the bank for their own incompetence. In short, I was a bell-end.Thankfully, it never happened. I got away with it and it's time to shut the stable door with the horse still inside.Shred everything. Don't worry about deciding whether or not something contains personal information, just shred the lot.Just before I stopped being a bell-end, I though 'I bet a proper shredder is going to cost quite a bit, maybe I shouldn't bother.' What a pillock.I paid £39.95 for a highly rated shredder, and the other customers are spot on - it does a proper job and is a true bargain. It is basically a shredder unit sat on its own bin, although it looks a lot nice than that description suggests. It claims to take up to 8 pages or 70gsm paper. As a keen reviewer I couldn't resist testing it to the limit. I got to 10 paper of 80gsm with no trouble. It really struggled on 11 pages and I had to jig backwards and forwards a bit to get it all down. After 5 minutes of action it will give itself a 30 minute break to cool down. Five minutes will get you through several hundred sheets, so it is plenty of time. Also, it is sensing the temperature, so the 5 and 30 minutes are approximate - it will stop when it is too hot, however long it has been going, and restart when it thinks it is ready. My 11-page test made it need a rest, which seemed only reasonable.Safety-wise it covers all the bases - master on/off switch, a lock switch, and then a forward / neutral / reverse switch. So to get it going from scratch that is three switches. HOWEVER, you can then leave them all on and it will sit there waiting to detect paper. Or your cat's tail.So don't do that. Move it into neutral then use the lock switch. It has one more safety feature: if you lift the head off the bin, it will cut out. It has a recessed pressure switch so that it knows if it is on the bin. Obviously you'd put it in neutral first before lifting the head off. Probably.Pricing:The Amazon price for this shredder has ranged between £39.99 and £70.04 in the past 12 months, with about 60% of the time at £39.99. If it is higher than that as you read this, add it to your wish list and check back regularly. It is delivered in its branded box with no Amazon over-box, so bear that in mind if you are buying it as a gift. Wait, why would this ever be a gift?Anyway, top notch, 5-stars, would buy again in a heartbeat, etc.

My new shredder arrived yesterday, and as we had a huge pile of shredding to be done, of course I had to get it set up and working as soon as possible! The first thing I noticed (once it was unpacked and plugged in) was the noise - the low level of the noise! Our previous shredder had been quite loud, especially towards the end of its life. This one has a hum to it, and I was amazed how little the noise changed even when shredding staples and credit cards. We had both of these in the pile of shredding to be done, just by coincidence, and it was a great way to test out the unit. I wondered how it would handle the staples, even though it was designed to shred them, but it didn't even blink! The noise was literally no different with just the paper to the stapled paper. The thicker the wedge of paper added to the slot, the deeper the noise became, but that is just because the motor was working that bit harder. Nothing to worry about, though. The shredder worked beautifully, and it happily shredded through all of the paperwork which had piled up since our last one gave up! I did the shredding in two sessions, simply due to the amount there was to be done, and I did not want to burn it out in the first evening. The temperature control light flickered a few times when shredding the thicker piles of paper, but nothing to cause any concern, and it merrily chomped its way through all that I fed into it.I emptied the shredder bin twice, and oiled the blades each time, as recommended. The oil was a bit messy, but that is not a review of the shredder, more the oil bottle. The window in the front of the bin is more of a smoked plastic than clear, so it is more difficult to see the paper level than perhaps it needed to be, but it was clear enough when it needed emptying, I think. Just being aware of how much paper you have shredded will help to not overload the bin. We noticed with our previous unit that if the bin was not emptied when it was getting full, the shredder blades clogged with paper if shredding continued, and I can see that this would be the case with this item as well. Therefore, little and often emptying would be advisable, even if the bin is only half full, and then you could oil the blades every other time it was emptied. For the price (I paid £42), this is an excellent bit of kit. I looked long and hard at the various options, and seriously considered spending half as much again for the 22l bin of the next model up, but I am glad I went with this unit. The bin is not massive, but for general everyday shredding which has not been piling up for a month (and had hubby's business chequebook added to the pile with who knows how many pages in it!!), it will be more than adequate. The noise level is perfectly acceptable, and feels to me like it is on the quiet side, which is great. I would currently agree with the "powershred" label, as it certainly seemed to power through everything fed into it.I am very pleased with my purchase, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to buy or replace a home shredder, especially if you do not wish to pay lots of money for one.

First in my overall review for the product, remember that all shredders need to be used in accordance with instructions - if it says 8 sheets maximum, don't put in ten and hope for the best - something will jam or break. This is a great shredder for moderate needs - typical Home Office stuff, but with ability to shred a lot of stuff so long as you are sensible about how much you put in at a time. I just need to run it 3 or 4 times a week, typically and not for doing much at a time and for that it's neat, quiet and performs a great job of cutting papers and credit cards into tiny bits. It's my third Fellowes shredder over many years - the second one failed after about 5 months - bought ion Jan 2020 and problem occurred in June.Conscious that the cost of returning it for repair was going to be high -and a pain as I didn't have the box - I tried to repair it myself (taking great care, of course), found that a small plastic disk that rotates against a spindle to drive the shredding device was coming off the end of the spindle (don't know why or how, or what bit was missing, but it wasn't possible for me to fix it. Contacted Gemma at Fellowes Customer Service and sent a couple of photos and immediately she offered a replacement and shipped it same day. It arrived today and it's in place! So superb service by Gemma and keeps me as a Fellowes fan.

I needed a simple but reliable shredder with a P-3 or better security level and having used Fellowes products many times in the past this one seemed to tick all the boxes. It is a tidy piece of kit, basically a 15 ltr bin with a shredder unit which sits neatly on the top.The power cable is over 1m and there is a master power switch on the back. There is a second safety on the top of the unit to prevent accidental turn ons. Even with the lock off and the motor on - allowing the shredder to operate when paper is fed in - a third safety kicks in if you lift the unit off the bin. Seems pretty idiot proof to me.It copes with up to 8 layers of paper at a time ( 6 sheets folded in half is 12 which is more than 8 so don't be silly )and has no problem turning old bank cards into little shards of 4 x 50 mm. It says it copes with staples - not tried but I would expect it does. There is overheating protection too. After 5 mins continuous use it forces a 30 min pause. 5 mins is a lot of shredding and if you feed gradually you may never trigger the cut out.I suggest you also get the lubrication oil and apply that each time you empty the bin. Its also good to run it in reverse for a few seconds to clear the debris before you take the unit off for bin emptying. Conclusion? Sound and reliable, easy to use and ideal for almost any homes and more.

I could not bear to use the cheap Fellows shredder I bought about 18 months ago any more as it was driving me crazy. It kept jamming, was noisy and slow and could only take a couple of sheets of A4 at a time. I decided to treat myself to a decent one and knew I would have to pay a little extra for it. Fellowes is a good make and I know they make some good shredders so I did a little research this time and this shredder seemed to be the one that would make my life a lot easier and do a good job. The instant I got it (which was the next day) I tried it out and it was like comparing a 3-wheeler car to a Rolls Royce. It is fairly quiet, the paper glides through the cutters and you can see the inside of the shredder as it has a little window at the front so you know when you need to empty it. You would not believe such a little thing would make such a big difference but it really does. It is a real pleasure to use and is extremely efficient at what it does. Take my advice though and order a bottle of shredder oil at the same time and use it how the manufacturer recommends in the instructions and you will not have any problems. I highly recommend this product and wish I had bought it years ago as it is the best one I have had

I am very careful about not recycling paper etc that has my home address or sensitive info on it, once having been a victim of Identity theft some years ago.To this end, I give my shredders some stick, in fact, one of them the metal blades have seized and the other started having pieces of plastic showing in the opening :( on dismantling in the hope of repairing it appears the plastic drum surrounding the metal shredder was cracking up, I'd had it since 2012 and I only paid £45 so off to the tip.So design clearly was a factor in getting an update shredder, having read the reviews on this Fellowes model and the great price of £45, as well as the added safety features incl.the 5 minutes cut off to avoid overheating, I decided to take a chanceOn arrival, I checked the underneath of the shredder and was impressed in the way the shredder teeth were sectioned off from each other, overall it was well built and after some use, I can testify that it lives it to the slogan on the box ' The Worlds Toughest Shredders' even with its extended guarantee, I decided to take advantage of Amazons Extra Breakdown and accidental damage cover' bearing in mind my history with shredders lol. Highly recommended.

I replaced a larger Fellowes machine that lasted about 10 years, slowly losing capabilities until it didn't work at all but for the price and because it lasted10 years I decided to buy another Fellowes shredder. This one is much smaller but it is advertised and the packaging states that it handles 8 sheets at a time. I was influenced by the price reduction from £117.19 to £44.34 but I seriously doubt that this shredder was ever saleable at the higher price and the price I paid is probably nearer to its true value. The sheet shredding capability is barely true. It struggled so hard to shred 8 bank statement sheets that I would fear to try that many again. I handles 6 and is best running at 4 or less. The auto function works and the overheat cut-out does too, unfortunately as it stopped after about ¾ of its bin. I paid for a second years warranty and suspect that I may be using it if it struggles as it does and consequently probably puts strain on its electrics. We shall see. I've given it 4* as it does work as a personal shredder but is not capable of heavy duty usage. I can't see it lasting as long as the previous Fellowes shredder but it cost about half the price in real terms.

I have only had this for 24 hours, but I have used it far more than the "medium, 60 pages per month" that it is rated for. I have a lot to shred and was rather doubting if/how I would get through the massive pile of papers, based on my previous experiences with "home shredders".However, I have been feeding this about 3 or 4 pages at a time in order to get the throughput without overloading it and having to wait for it to cool down (a common issue/feature with shredders). And so far I have not had an "Overload". I have cycled though "full bins" about 6 or 7 times in the last 24 hours and am about half way through my initial backlog of papers, and am very happy with the device.I read up on crosscut shredders and decided to buy oil at the same time. The recommendation is that you oil on each bin-emptying... I doubt I need to do that much as I am using it "within a day" (so far), but I am oiling every 3 bin empties "just in case". I imagine once I get though my backlog, it'll settle down to once a month or so.But so far so good. very impressed with the cut, speed and relative quietness.

Bearing in mind, this is only the first day but ooo!! I'm digging this!Back in the day, the 'rents got a Fellowes strip cut shredder and to my knowledge, it's still alive and kicking, after YEARS. So I went with this and am impressed so far. It's got a heavy head, that's easy to lift off but some dents in the side of the bin would have helped carting the unit around as a whole. It's a substantial size too for my personal home use (journal pages and receipts).Read the brief manual as there are things it won't shred like newspaper and X-rays and CDs.I didn't have much shredding to do today so auto cut off didn't kick in after 5 minutes nor did the overheat warning light go on.It's pretty safety conscious - you plug in when you want to use,on/off switch is at rear of head, then set front switch to play, reverse or stop. Flip the safety lock switch in between shreds if you've got kids - human or otherwise, and don't touch the scary exposed blades underneath.Bottom line, it's user friendly and does what it says. And registering is easy.

Sthredders have become a normal part of life, sadly, but it is important to make sure that anything that could be used to steal your identity is shredded. This shredder does a fine job and has a powerful motor. It states you can shred up to 8 pages of A4 at a time, don't take a lot of notice of this as I feel you are better off doing no more than 4 at a time, less strain on the motor and you'll get there in the end anyway. The small pieces are secure enough to deter anyone who looks through your paper rubbish. Personally I use the shredded paper on the garden, either as a mulch or, most often, as an addition to the compost bin.Oh yes, it will also shred credit cards, but personally I prefer to use strong scissors - that's just me though. In use this shredder is solid and sounds it too - yes it is noisy, but powerful motors are noisy. For the money you would be hard pressed to get anything better. So if, like me you don't have huge amounts of papers to shred, look no further. I thoroughly recommend this machine.

This is absolutely excellent. The cross cut shreds papers much better from a security point of view. I like the fact you can see through the screen at the front just how far up the paper is in the container. This may not sound important, but my previous one did not have this facility and unless you constantly looked into it, it seemed to jam if it was becoming full. As this top part is extremely heavy, it’s a good idea not to have to remove it until you are actually emptying it.The safety features are excellent. There’s an on/off switch at the back, a press down and push back button at the front and the machine also has the function sliding lever on top which enables it to shred papers but also reverse them if there is a jam.It has a really good capacity too. Oiling it is recommended from time to time to keep the cutting blades functioning efficiently and although I have bought the compatible oil for this machine I have not used it yet so cannot comment on that. All in all a good buy

I bought this shredder about 3 months ago to make paper briquettes for burning on an open fire. I shred newspapers & cardboard mainly and has saved me hours of work with a pair of scissors !!! Used sensibly not overloading it, it has been a Godsend. I would recommend this shreddAAer but only for domestic use. I give it 5 stars. Steve Thorne Salisbury.Aug 5th 2025Afte usimg this shredder after about 3 months I cannot get it to shred. There is power there and it goes in reverse but when paper is put in nothing happens. Of course I cannot have the hassle of returning it so has anybody got any suggestions whats wrong with it.E MAIL ME ON "[email protected]" sTEVE tHORNE 01722741243.I have just had another look at this shedder and with a small screwdriver got a lot of paper out the top. The sensor is working again so it was my fault !!! I still recommend this machine as I make a lot of paper briquettes to burn so it is used most days. Steve Thorne.

I purchased this item as a replacement for a preview model which was a 5 sheet shredder. I have however found the same issue with all HOME shredders. If the item says 5 it means 3 so in this case where it say 8 it can actually take 5-6 without overheating or jamming. I had my last one for about 5+ years so it did well for a non commercial shredder. The form factor and design is nice. It also has a good capacity which means less frequent trips to the recycling bin. There is also a window to view the fill level which is handy. Controls include a forward, reverse and also a lock to prevent little people playing around with it. I would also recommend that you buy some oil or Amazon Basics lubrication sheets for keeping it in good order. Also it is a little quieter than the last one I had.Update 2021 - Last two years and then died. Wont purchase this brand again as this is my second one in so many years. I would expect 3-5 years even at this price.

A considerably quieter and perfectly competent replacement for an older shredder which suddenly slowed to a crawl after years of constant neglect. Learning from the past, I also ordered lubricating oil and shredder maintenance sheets together with the shredder. Unlike our previous shredder, this one also claims to cope with staples, although we always remove them first anyway. It has a number of safety features which might prove particularly attractive for users who need to keep it instantly accessible and also have nosey children with little fingers!Note that the claimed number of sheets shredded at a time can be misleading as this figure tends to be based on a lighter weight paper than most stationery. But for normal everyday non-business shredding, this is perfectly adequate and good value. The only obvious improvement, if you needed to move it about frequently, would be some carry handles moulded into the sides of the plastic bin.

Recently, when I was sorting out documents in the unit, I found that there was a lot of past information. I felt that there was no usability after a long time, but there were some personal information that needed to be processed. After researching and searching, I found the product. It is not too big and not expensive. It is easy to install and use.It can cut 8 sheets at a time into 4 x 37 mm cross cutting (DIN P-4). If you work continuously for 5 minutes. It needs to cool down for 30 minutes. All paper shredders are like this: this is a heat-generating operation. If you are not operating continuously, it may not encounter overheating problems. (There is an important note ⚠️ Every time you use it,you must add lubricating oil. This way can better protect the machine) The 15-liter dust bin can basically meet the normal use.I really like it, if you are about to buy it, I strongly recommend you to use it in a small home office????
