My old shredder (also a Fellowes) was supposed to handle 6 sheets but gagged on 4. This one is supposed to manage 12 sheets and can comfortably gobble up 9 sheets of thick laser print paper. With thinner paper - like bank statements - it should do 12 easily. If you are overloading it with too many sheets or too-thick paper it lets you know with a red light on the front. The old shredder let you know by trying to shred and then jamming, so this is a great improvement.Other improvements over what I am used to are that it will trash credit cards and CD/DVD discs, it is very quiet in operation, and it has wheels on it. There is also a sensor to detect fingers.Although I am sure this works I have to admit that I haven't actually tried to stick my fingers in there just to test it out.The wheels are a bigger advantage than they sound because shredders can be awkward to move around. They consist of a lot of empty space, with some heavy machinery at the top so the centre of gravity is high. Try to move one on carpet and you can easily tilt it too far and have it topple over. With wheels it moves easily and this matter because this is not somehting I use all the time so it is normally tucked away and moved out when needed.Getting some lubricating oil was a nice touch, as was the small pack of plastic bags. I have actually used one of the bags to line the bin of the shredder. The sacks are large enough to completely fit the shredder bin into, so you should be able to empty it without ending up with a floor covered in confetti, which is what always happened to me when I used bags that were too small. Not a bad choice if you have room for a floor-standing shredder and might want/need to move it around.

I picked this to review as I am a long term shredder user and know that any review I give is going to be based on a good amount of knowledge of what is out there and the various mechanisms.I noted it was a good sized one like my existing one, but as I was very happy with that (a swordfish) did not think that this fellowes one would be serious competition. The shredder is easy to assemble, with wheels which install easily and which allow the shredder to be moved very smoothly, and it even comes with some shredder oil and bin bags which was generous of fellowes; usually you have to buy extras like that yourself. The machine is extremely attractive with details such as metalic paper slot trim which I later found has functionality also - it acts as an autostop if you touch it while feeding paper as a safety feature. Also a plethora of lights and messages, some of which I think I will find useful, as even though the bin has a transparent front section, the location I put the shredder in means I cannot see the front, so the bin full light is going to be useful for sure. there is also a temperature warning which will also be useful, as well as some other messages that I am not sure I would take note of such as one which tells you if you should be feeding more sheets in at once or less.I have saved the biggest reason that this shredder has replaced my existing one; it is the quietest shredder I have ever used. This is quieter than the one before that I considered to be quiet. I think it is about half as quiet. The noise it has is low end based and not intrusive. I hate loud shredders and love this new one so the previous one has gone up into the attic to be used when this one breaks.

If you haven’t bought a shredder for a while, they have got a lot smaller. This one is just 25.7 x 34.3 x 56.5 cm – a fraction of the size of my old small office one. In contrast, the lid remains heavy – the whole shredder weighs 10.3 kg. This is reassuring as you need a powerful motor to shred lots of sheets of paper at one time, and to keep working for a decent period without overheating. A decent heavy duty motor means extra weight – you want the weight. It shreds staples, credit cards and paper clips too (though I will only put ordinary paper clips through it, not heavy duty ones).I have the Mini Cut rather than the Cross Cut version. It cuts paper into smaller pieces, making it relatively more secure.I have shredded lots of paper and have yet to have it cut out on me due to overheating. That’s the advantage of a heavier duty motor (and more expensive shredder). It has a safety feature – the motor stops when it detects a hand touching the paper opening. (Nothing is foolproof so I keep the home office locked so my young children can’t go in there). If you try to shred too many sheets at one time, a red LED lights up and the motor doesn’t turn. This prevents a main cause of jams.If it does jam during shredding, the motor automatically reverses. This helps to stop a labouring motor turning into a full-on paper jam and then finding it extremely difficult or impossible to remove the paper – the latter has killed previous shredders that I have owned. It’s stylish too, and has castors. All shredders die quite quickly if you don’t oil them. I strongly recommend buying shredder lubricant

Going from a budget £30 shredder to this was quite the step up! I've been used to a noise that sounded ratchety and really loud, to one that is tolerable and weirdly softer in tone. This is so much faster than my old shredder - easily and quickly chewing up several sheets at once. It comes with removable castors so is easy to move around, and they even have little 'brakes' on two of them to keep it secure when in use. It's so much better have a pull-out front drawer to empty it, as opposed to my old one where I had to lift off the entire top of the 'bin', and the fact it has a 'window' so you can see how much room is left is even better. There's a safety feature so that if your hand makes contact with the top plate it automatically stops shredding (if it stays in contact for longer than 3 seconds the machine powers off completely). It automatically reverses if there's a jam, although there is the option to manually go forward/backward if needed (good for if oiling the shredder blades). Ultimately, the output is well and truly shredded (see pic) - much smaller shreds than my budget version, which is what matters the most. This is a smart-looking shredder (fits neatly beside my home office desk) that is functional, practical, not too loud and pretty quick at doing its job. Very pleased!

I have been using the slightly cheaper Fellowes 75CS for 6 months now and it really is the bees knees. It does everything that this 73Ci model does and is far more stable (no castors) and with a slightly bigger capacity. The touchpad interface is a new feature, but call me old fashioned I like clicky buttons! The shred capacity is identical with the 75CS actually shredding 0.1 cm smaller yet it is only a security category P3 whereas the 73Ci is security level P4- can't work out why! The safesense technology remains flawless and a definite must if you have little folk with inquisitve fingers around the house. The blade guarantee of 5years and 2 years on the rest is always reassuring in something that is used so frequently and it is a nice touch that Fellowes include a decent sized bottle of oil to maintain them in tiptop condition. I am puzzled as to how the original RRP/list price is so high especially when you compare it to the 75CS, which in my opinion is still the machine to go for.If I hadn't already got the 75CS to compare to, it would have 5 stars, but because I have it gets a 4.

This is a very expensive shredder but so good. If, like me, you shred stuff that still has the paperclip on, or the staple, no problem, it does them too. 12 sheets at a time to shred no problem. It will also shred your credit card. We did shred a CD. This is very noisy – it sounds as if the machine is breaking – but it does work. This is ideal if you have ‘delicate’ information of the CD.It’s very smart and sits under a desk. If you’re shredding and your hand gets near the paper opening it stops. This does work, we did try it very carefully. The machine is on castors, so this is ideal for 'getting' it out.The bin to collect the shredding has a see-through window so you can see when it’s full.It will shred for a continuous 30 minutes (I’ve never tested this)and then needs a rest of about 10 minutes. For home or office this is ideal but if you’re just shredding the odd bank statement it’s far too expensive.

I am thrilled to bits, literally, with this shredder. It is so efficient and is incredibly quiet for a shredder. It has a large bin, so has plenty of capacity for a lot of shredding, which is ideal for a small office, with an indicator which tells you when it is full... simply remove the bin to empty. It has an anti jamming feature and it hasn't jammed up once in the few weeks that I have had it, so so far is working really well. It has castors on the bottom too, so you can tuck it away under a table and wheel it out when you need it. It has an automatic shut off when not in use too, so it is power saving. It is expensive, but worth it.

We have been using this in our small office for several months now, like previous Fellowes machines we have owned http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fellowes-Deskside-Shredder-SafeSense-Technology/dp/B0067Z98NW/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top, this machine is quiet in use, has a fairly large capacity bin, and a very welcome energy saving system built-in.The sheet capacity is quoted at 12 but on more than one occasion we have accidentally fed 16 sheets (80gsm) through with no problems - apart from a little groaning - not recommended though! An ideal machine for the small office or home study.

I didn’t buy this shredder initially - thought it was too expensive and bought a cheaper one. Big mistake. The cheaper one kept overheating, rejected anything more than 5 sheets thick and died after just three months. Luckily it was in guarantee so amazon gave me a refund. Then I bought this. It is great. Works super fast and doesn’t seem to have a problem with anything I feed it. No more spending hours trying to feed paper into a shredder!

This thing works great, and has tons of capacity. Plus, the front window lets you know when it's getting full. The finger-sensing safety features work really well, and the powerful motor makes shredding almost fun. It's pricy, but worth every single penny. Everything about this shredder is just so smooth and easy. Im 100% happy I went with this one instead of a cheaper brand or model.

This is the best shredder I have ever had and brought for a great price of £95.99 at the time of purchase. You can shred multiple sheets at once making the job quicker if you have a lot to do. If the shredder jams it automatically reverses realising the paper, unlike other previous models I have owned. It is easy to empty and doesn't feel up quite so quick as other cheaper models.

Got this for our office. It able to shred many papers at once and they shredded into fine pieces. The top (head) part of the shredder is really heavy so have to handle it properly especially when the drawer is removed as the body will be left with just half a box with 3 sides. The castor make it really handy to move around but they aren’t able to fix in properly

26.2.2013

I have used a Fellowes shredder before and I am very satisfied with their product quality. This one has SafeSense technology - the shredder automatically stops if you put your hands too close to the mouth of it - and the Jam proof technology really works, preventing those annoying paper jams. This is a stylish and efficient piece of office equipment.

26.12.2019

I have bought shredders before which last a very short time and are noise ,This is so quiet built well and shreds well.It cost a lot more but there you are it some times pays to pay a little more .I have taken out cover on it so that gives more trust in the product. Here hopes it should last a few years

27.1.2017

The shredder does what it says on the tin and seems really high quality, gobbles up the paper. The only downside is that it's pretty noisy, we've had to put it in a remote corner of the office so that it doesn't affect people on the phone. It sounds very much like a dentist drill! Otherwise all good.
