I saw these model kits in a few gadget shops over the Christmas period all made and shiny in their display cabinets and really liked the look of them so I thought I'd treat myself to one as a stocking filler, the Millennium Falcon had at that time sold out so I opted for the TIE fighter. Now upon opening the pack is where the fun begins as there are 2 sheets of thin steel with all the pieces you need cut into them plus a comprehensive instruction sheet, as many other reviews have said having the right tools for the job helps dramatically, I found myself mainly using my wife's tweezers and a small flat head screwdriver out of a cracker and got the job done!! Yes it was very, very fiddly in parts but it kept me quiet and from under my wife's feet for a day or so also there was a real nice sense of accomplishment when I finally mounted it on its little stand. Judging by a lot of people's experiences with these kits I seem to have picked probably the most challenging as my first build and am looking forward to completing the Star Wars collection. I'm not an avid model maker the last one probably being an Airfix plane as a kid in the 80's but enjoyed this little project immensely so much so I've even purchased the proper tools from the makers the help me out in the future. Don't bother if you are a bit ham fisted and lacking patience!!

This was the first of these kits I've made so it was my introduction to their construction, which is fiddly but rewarding if you take your time and are accurate. Compared to the Star Destroyer and Darth's TIE this is a lot less sturdy, although that may be due to the fact it was my first kit and I hadn't learned some of the techniques. The solar panels in particular are rather wobbly on my model, but I reckon if I did it again I could get them tighter. It's quite a tricky kit for the beginner to these models as there are a few circular pieces to create (for instance the wing struts require you to make 2 cylinders, so you need to find a suitably small tube as a form - I used a modelling paint brush). The struts on the panels are also pretty fiddly and there are 24 of them to put on! If you look closely on mine you'll see I accidentally mixed up a 1 and 2 and 6 and 5 strut, but they seem identical anyway (hence my mistake). There's also a tab missing on a 3 somewhere, but I think I've hidden it well!As with most of these it will help if you have some specialist modelling tools - I use some long nosed pliers (for tabs where you have to twist and there's easy access) and very fine nosed modelling tweezers (for restricted access/folding). Took me about 4 hours I'd say as it was my first build of these.

This model was challenging and I wholeheartedly believe that if you aren’t familiar with modeling let alone with metal, I would suggest watching some videos online how to assemble these. Tool tips: wide lip tweezers, ultra fine non grooved jewelry pliers (the type used to place gems into settings) I also suggest using a ruler and measuring the inside diameter from tab hole to tab hole on circular pieces and use an appropriate sized socket from a socket wrench (or any firm circular object of appropriate size) to achieve perfect circles. This method also helps with conical shapes however you’ll need to find something that will be tapered, I used a center punch for most if not all. Last to note, with this model when it comes to the cockpit, the instructions say to fold it into a tube, then attach the window and back hatch, I found that attaching both the front window and the back hatch as I went along to be the better method. Lastly, I suggest having a sheet magnet and a cutting mat (mat used for fabric cutting) the magnet will allow you to place parts on it as some individual structures take several parts to make one assembly. Overall, it was fun to build.

Had the snow speeder for xmas so bought this as a follow up.. I Love this model, value for money was there and it kept me busy for around 8 hours over a couple of days. This was my second metal earth model and I tooled up for it - a small pair of tweezers, marbels, pliers, and a variety of dowel rods for rolling and bending. I am really pleased with how it turned out, I wouldn't advise this for a first time attempt as it has a some more difficult 'role folds' which take patience and a higher degree of accuracy. It loses a star as the instruction images are inaccurate, which is potentially a copy and paste error (the back of the model does not have slots for the spurs in image)and no matter how tight I made the connection between the fuselage and the wing strut it it would not hold it flush, ive since read reviews and forums online and it turns out this is a common issue with this model. I expect the wings to sag in time but if this happens I will remove it from the stand, and display it on its wings.

This was requested as a gift for Christmas from 13 year old. I was worried that it would be far too fiddly for him, but with the help of some small pointed pliers, he was able to build the Tie Fighter over a few sessions. The resulting model is small but really well detailed, and sits proudly on his shelf, he has since bought another set for himself and is working on that. For smaller people I would recommend the pliers and plenty of adult help as there are a lot of small fiddly bits, luckiliy we could leave the components out on the dining room table for him to return to and complete as leisure

Well this was a headache to make, not because its fiddly (which it is) but because the centre section needs to be a perfect sphere to kake sure it all fits together - this is one that you need to take time and walk away from, but its worth it in the end.

OK. This was my second. The Millennium Falcon was the first. This was WAY harder!Getting the curve right for the main body was a nightmare.Still a great way to waste a cold and wet winter weekend! Now hooked and can't wait for my X Wing to turn up ?

A must for any Star wars fan old and young, great fun to make can be a bit fiddly but worth it in the end, great detail on all the models I've done so far (9 so far, six to go for all the Star wars ones with more to be added, hopefully)

Bought for a friend and he still hasn't finished it, he thoroughly loves it though and is a great little present if you want someone to be occupied for many hours or days.

Probably the hardest metal earth model I've had to build. I broke several bits trying to put it together :( but it still looks great!

You will be needing some form of needle nose pliers to do this easily.Mine turned out really well, you just have to be patient.
