As a seasoned GoPro user, I have been through the highs and lows of this goliath of a company. More recently with the rise of DJIs consumer drones, they are venturing into GoPro territory - so behold the direct competitor that is the Osmo Action! The first thing that draws you to this device is how similar it looks to the GoPro. It definitively took a lot of design cues from the GoPro camera, so much so that it fits in some of the GoPro accessories. Something I think DJI has actively advertised so that when you switch from GoPro to Osmo Action. They are both intensely rugged and offer some best in class digital stabilisation- absolutely incredible technology on both cameras.I took the OsmoAction out for a spin and can report the Pros and Cons between the two cameras belowFor Osmo Action- The Rocksteady feature is an absolute beast. In so many ways, it bests the GoPro - if you take a running video, you will notice the GoPro shakes far more than the Osmo Action. Just look at the Horizon and you'll see the difference instantly- The Front facing screen - this is absolutely key for those action and killer shots. If you can't see what you're videoing, you might just miss your chance to get that once in a lifetime shot in the perfect frame- The easy to remove lens. Okay so the GoPro isn't that difficult to remove once you know how, but it is still a nightmare to attach things like ND filters. The Osmo action lens is much easier to remove and much easier to apply different lens filters that are properly attached.- It is way cheaper - especially on Amazon at the moment - if you want a bargain, definitely go for the Osmo Pocket.- I have not found any weird freezing issues with the Osmo Action. With the GoPro, you sometimes get screen freeze and you can't rotate the screen or it just stops taking video or photos. You have to physically remove the batter to reset. For GoPro- The GoPro has a better suite of apps and connectivity which makes transfer and edit of files much more streamlined. This is probably due to the fact that GoPro is far more established, and as such i suspect over time, the gap will narrow- The Osmo Action has some sort of strange lag which is very annoying when trying to take videos. I expect this will be fixed in a firmware update in the future- The GoPro battery pack and extra battery charger is much sleeker.- File transfer is speedy on the GoPro- So many accessories for the GoPro. Note the accessories for Osmo Action are drip feeding into the market slowly though.- The GoPro fisheye sort of look for FPV shooting looks so much more "Action Orientated" than the Osmo Action (but this might be a for Osmo Action point depending on your shooting style and preference)- The GoPro has better mic capture (in my opinion)- The GoPro has a more vibrant colour profile in its photos and videos. Though this might be slightly colour graded so may not be actually what you are seeing in real life.- Hyperlapse is so so so much better than the timewarp feature on the Osmo Action. I don't know if this is down to software stitching not as good at the moment - but this would be a massive improvement on the Osmo Action if it gets improved upon.Overall both cameras have their Pros and Cons. It's down to personal preference and budgets whether you would go with a new competitor that is the Osmo Action or the well established but somewhat cumbersome at times, GoPro. Because of its lower price point and good deal at the moment, i would give it a 5/5, especially when I think over time some of the cons of the Osmo Action should be addressed via their firmware updates.

CALLING ALL VLOGGERS, PRO PHOTOGRAPHERS AND TECH GEEKS!All I can say is Wow! This rugged, compact and lightweight action camera is amazing! The 150g industry-leading DJI Osmo Action is packed with tonnes of tech and cool features. Firstly, the wide angle camera lens captures every moment in up to 4K resolution at 60FPS in crystal clear quality. Secondly, the voice commands are so useful that when using gimbals or accessories that may limit button access you can still fully operate the Osmo with responsive voice commands. Not forgetting, the DUAL SCREEN! It's official, this must be one of the best compact vlogging cameras on the market. You can double-tap the rear screen and seamlessly change to the front screen to ensure the lighting is good. Also, the EIS is advanced enough to practically not even need a gimbal or manual stabiliser, however the battery life does decrease noticiably when on. Nevertheless, the app is quick, simple and easy to navigate and the large screen on the camera is responsive, simple and modern. Finally, battery life - the one tiny downside of the cam. DJI claims that you can get up to 90 mins of shooting at 4K/60FPS although from first impressions, I found after using it for 15-20 mins you had already lost 25% although most gimbals now have built-in charging facilities for your Osmo to give it a charge boost. If you ever are skiing, snowboarding or in cold conditions and stop for a break to check out your footage, firstly you will find amazing results from the Osmo, then you will find that your hand is melting from how hot the camera gets! This is the reason why I gave it 4 Stars. Around the lens, it gets quite hot after average usage from 10 mins of shooting. So be careful when charging you don't overcharge the battery or leave it unattended, you don't know what state your house could be in by then after a quick pop to the shops after leaving it on charge!Overall, this budget-friendly but class-leading action cam is great.Thank you for reading this review, I hope you found it helpful! I'm not an action person but I do like making YouTube videos (like the review for this camera). I really like the front facing screen on this, it's brilliant to help you get the right shot for.The touch screen is responsive and helps you get to the different camera modes quickly. The different modes are easy to understand, although I found I needed to use the mobile app to adjust the time lapse settings (by default it takea photo every 3s, I needed it at 1s).I love this doesn't need a case for water proofing. It does come with a case, that's more to make this usable with accessories such as the included mounts.Disappointing to find there was no mount for tripods included, fortunately I happened to have one that worked with this, looks like DJI have gone with a standard action camera system so it can be used with lots of accessories available for Go Pros.Great camera, looking forward to using it more in my video making.

The camera itself is the best i have ever used,i have a gopro hero 7 black but osmo action is perfect for my use great pics and video but i can't use a camera which has to be activated before use.The gopro might have a few problems but nothing so frustrating as not being able to use a camera which says must be activated before use i have had to send it backupdate 10-04-2020 have bought this camera again only now i am able to activate it with my new iphone, i have had it out for the day on my bike and its so simple to use.One thing these cameras are designed to be used in the sun. The photos are excellent and in 16.9 can be viewed on a tv set if you want to buy one go on youtube and look at the excellent reviews and how to's.I have been using both the go pro and the dji osmo now and the osmo is by far the easiest to use all through this lockdown i have used the osmo and i have some great photos and videos

£229 for the Osmo is a great buy as it offers so much for the money. It is without question, the best camera of its kind available today. Sorry GoPro, but the Osmo beat you at your own game. AND I LOVE GOPRO! I have owned them all since the 3 but today a newcomer to this genre takes the crown.I would not even call this an Action camera as it is so much more than that. Using the DEWARP feature it shoots video without any distortion at all, and gives a nice wide-angle without the curved edges we see in the non linear GoPro modes. GoPro also has Linear mode which is just like the DEWARP feature of the Osmo. As for the stabilization,Osmo has ROCKSTEADY and GoPro 7 has HYPERSMOOTH.In standard IS mode the OSMO equals the GoPro 7 Hypersmooth but in ROCKSTEADY mode the Osmo becomes a true Rockstar and surpasses the steadiness of the GoPro, and without any wonky image artefacts.Highly recommended.

I completely avoided this like a pledge when I found out about the terrible lag that the was in the video along with other minor bugs. but since they released the new update that fixed those problems this quickly became my favourite.- The menu is the best out there,- The ease of use is unmatched,- The connectivity with the app makes the GoPro system look like going to final year at University.Don't get me wrong Gopro is good but this is even now better with these new fixes I would always recommend this first.it has some drawbacks though- the view is not as wide as the GoPro- the picture quality is a hair less than the GoPro in low light- The stabilisation is fantastic but it crops further into your frame.I can live with these shortcomings, the one thing I hope will start improving in these action cameras is low light performance and that's both with all action cameras.Hope this helps!

I had a GoPro Hero 5 and it was great when it was first released. However as time moves on I felt I was in a position to purchase a replacement. I did not feel that the Hero 7 offered enough to warrant the change, but then along came DJI.I have owned various DJI drones (Phantom 4, Spark, Mavic Pro and Mavic Air) and love their products. I like the reviews I watched regarding stabilisation and the front facing screen. Although there are some extra options I would like, DJI's history of firmware upgrades gives me confidence that they will be added. So far, I love the camera, it has great build quality and is a huge improvement over the Hero 5 I owned. I'm sure the Hero 7 would be just as good, but I'm personally glad that I went for the Osmo Action.Having used the Mimo app before, registration was simple and the firmware upgrade happened straight away.

I've only had this camera for a few weeks and only used it once in dim street lights. It gave me impressive footage considering the lighting conditions but I have yet to use it for anything else. The battery life is excellent and it made me regret spending the extra money on additional batteries as one is adequate for most purposes. The 2 screens are good but don't expect to see much as they are very small. The only footage I shot was in 4K and I was amazed how much storage the video required, using over 20GB for an hour. I can see it being expensive to store lots of video in 4K so I will try HD and see if it uses less without much degradation of picture quality.

I’ve had all the top range action cameras including YI 4K plus and go pro 7 black and this osmo is by far the best so far. First thing you will notice is the build quality is solid and feels welll made, the touch screen responds flawlessly and is nice and bright, front screen is not touchscreen but it’s very useful, battery life is very good and there are many accessories you can buy like filters and mounts. Image quality is fantastic and smooth, HDR works very well in low lit conditions, I can’t think of any cons about this so if your looking for the best action camera on the market 2019 this is it. You won’t be disappointed.

6.9.2019

Has an excellent video quality, but it lacks in the photos quality. There is no zoom and all the pictures look like if you are a lot of meters away, even the selfies looks like you are faaaar away. Easy to use, but the battery is not good. e.g. normal use for picture for 1 hour and it decrease by 50%, so if you want to take a video for 1 hour probably it will drain out.

15.2.2020

Bought to replace camera on a drone. Fantastic wide angle shots, stable and high quality images. Setting up was a nightmare and the app is badly designed, confusing and poorly laid out and hard to find things. But the images are what it’s all about and cannot fault it for output. Battery life is excellent too.

20.1.2020

Great camera but not as good as my GoPro 7 black, fov is a lot smaller on the osmo and for anyone thinking of this for freestyle fpv will be disappointed as the Camra doesn’t seem to keep up with the high speeds and you get a blocky picture but for general use as a 4K compact camera it’s fine.

7.8.2019

Firstly i wrote old reciews with bad experiance because i faced difficult in activation camera using iphone xs but after too much trails i got sucess activation..now i use it for 3 days and very happy with camera and take photos to my son all day..thank you Dji Osmo Action

19.12.2019

Tested against the GoPro Hero 7 it’s a little better, against the Hero 8 it’s a little behind... but taking into account the current offers on these bringing it under £250 it’s now easily the best value, highly recommend at the offer price if you can get it.

8.3.2020

Love it.I wasn’t sure if i should get a GoPro or this one, but in terms of money it has almost the same prospects (for a non professional camera user) for a smaller price.Love the front screen and I’d recommend it.
