I have owned every generation of the GoPro since the GoPro Hero 5 black and upgraded at each iteration. When I first saw the footage from the Hero 8 Black, I thought okay, what incremental quality increase am I going to get this time. Hypersmooth 2.0 That's what sold it to me. In many ways, GoPro has not listened to its consumers when it comes to software reliability and some of the design aspects of this new GoPro. However, it is still a worthwhile device and depending on how you use it, you might not need this upgrade.USEABILITY/INTERFACEIn terms of ease of use, this GoPro's interface has changed for the better. Now you don't need to tap furiously over multiple screens and settings to change it to your recording settings. In the past you couldn't save presets to use, but now, you can access this with a couple of taps to get your usual setting. You can set multiple custom easy access settings. There are a couple of quick buttons nearby to provide more or less stabilisation now, which is much appreciate so you can pretty much get what you need to do from the camera screen.DESIGNThis is where GoPro wins and loses at the same time. It looks very similar to the GoPro Hero 7 Black, but the lens is not detachable. Okay GoPro says its much stronger as a lens, but the reality is, it is not infallible. In the situation the glass breaks, you're expected to fork up for a new GoPro? I don't think so GoPro. The bottom pop out mount attachment is super convenient, but looks a bit brittle. Only time will tell how well it will hold up to regular use. However, it isn't that expensive to replace - so that's a huge plus (that it's replaceable with ease). The hinge for the battery compartment was not well designed. Its a bit fiddly to take off and its very easy to snap off the hinge completely (it's meat to come off, but it comes off a bit too easily for my taste).HYPERSMOOTH 2.0This is basically the best feature about the Hero 8 Black. Hypersmooth 2.0 is a vast improvement to the first iteration on the GoPro Hero 7 Black Hypersmooth 1.0. I was completely blown away by the stabilisation. The Hero 7, was advertised as a Gimbal killer, but in my opinion was over advertised a bit. It was stellar, don't get me wrong when comparing to what was out there before. BUT Hypersmooth 2.0 absolutely kills it. I think it's as close to Gimbal killer as it can be on boost mode. Note that boost mode crops the image a bit more.VIDEO/IMAGEAs per usual, the photos taken by GoPro are usually much more vibrant and crisp that some of the images taken with phones. The wide angle lens is beautiful and is great fun to take photos with. It has no focal point (infinite depth of field), so everything is sharp throughout the photos. I recommend anyone who is on the fence to go check out some photos in youtube reviews to decide whether this style of photo is to your taste. The GoPro hero 8 has a marked improvement when it comes to night mode. It's less noisy and the clarity is much much higher compared to the Hero 7.RELIABIILTYI have only been able to test this for a couple of hours, and i have had one issue with frozen GoPro. This I know has been quite common on the GoPro Hero devices, so it did not shock me too much. It's a shame that GoPro has not fixed this in each release. Hopefully with more firmware updates, we will see if this becomes more reliable. It is an annoyance more than anything as you can just take out the battery if it freezes.BUNDLEI would totally recommend this bundle - the shorty stand is super convenient to use and is an official GoPro accessory which makes it well built and reliable. Great value for black Friday - don't hesitate!BATTERYThe battery life has not changed significantly since GoPro Hero 5. Its had incremental improvements but nothing ground breaking. The annoying thing is that these new blue tipped batteries are backwards compatible, but they have a larger output capacity. If you use your old GoPro batteries, you'll find that they don't output enough power to shoot in all of the modes that the new GoPro 8 offers. In summary, I can recommend the GoPro Hero 8 if you like taking smooth videos. On Hypersmooth 2.0 alone, it was worthwhile for the upgrade from 7 for me, but if you're just into photos and a much more infrequent user, then I'm not sure it's got enough new features to be a must upgrade as such. If you can grab it on black friday or prime sale, then even better!

Over the last three years I've owned the GoPro Hero Black 6, GoPro Hero Black 7, Sony XDR-X3000 and Sony X1000.Without doubt, when it comes to video quality and stabalisation, the GoPro Hero 8 Black is the best action camera I have used so far. Be aware, however, that there is a lot of room for improvement. It's only a small improvement over the Hero 7 Black, but if you are coming from the Hero 5 or 6 Black you will be impressed with what is there.Pros------* Folding Fingers bracket saves you from having to place the camera in a case to mount it to tripods and suction cups etc* Stabalisation and video quality is a little better than the GoPro Hero 7 Black* Camera lens does not stick out asmuch as it used to* A ton of video and photo recording options using many different focal lengths* Provided type C cable is short, but it is good qualityCons-------* No protective case is included* Only one 3M sticker pad is included* Touchscreen remains sluggish and cumbersome* No cutout for charging so the whole battery cover has to be removed* No HDMI out port* Microphone audio quality has not been improved and is still not as good as Sony action camerasThe design changes in the Hero 8 Black have meant that some sacrifices had to be made. I don't like the lack of charging port cutout or the HDMI port being removed, but it's hard to be too annoyed by these changes when the quality of video has been improved. In short, if you're buying an action camera for the first time, the GoPro Hero 8 Black should be top of your list. It's a good choice if you have an older GoPro like the Hero 5 Black or Hero 6 Black too. I don't think there is enough there to warrant an upgrade if you have a Hero 7 Black though. I'd hold out until the Hero 9 Black.Video Timeline----------------00:00 - Introduction01:08 - Checking box and features02:42 - Unboxing04:10 - Checking box contents06:28 - The GoPro Hero 8 Black Design (with a comparison with the GoPro Hero 7 Black)13:44 - Closer look at the battery cover18:54 - A quick word about Micro SD card compability20:24 - A look at the Go Pro Hero 8 Black user interface36:24 - Updating the firmware to version 1.2038:40 - Testing the GoPro Hero 8 Black in my office41:30 - Car audio, low light and stabalisation tests (Low light)47:12 - Camera views48:56 - Quick walk in the car park in low light50:17 - Slow motion in low light (240 FPS to 60 FPS)50:33 - Time lapse in low light51:06 - Slow motion during the daytime (240 FPS to 60 FPS)51:26 - A quick clip in the daytime52:11 - Car audio, low light and stabalisation tests (Daytime)57:16 - Super quick water test57:24 - Video stabilisation test (Hypersmooth 2.0)59:21 - Final thoughts on the GoPro Hero 8 Black1:10:38 - That's all folks! If you have any questions about the Hero 8 Black, be sure to ask :)Kevin* Please note that the attacked video review had to be downscaled significantly due to the limit on file uploads in Amazon reviews :)

I had a GoPro Hero 4 that I've been using fairly happily over the past few years when going to the gym or running obstacle courses with friends. It has held up very well and I'd never had a problem with it, but the audio was fairly poor and compared to modern YouTube videos my footage was starting to look a little dated. I decided it was time to upgrade.A friend had a Hero 7 and I gave it a go. I really liked the slow-motion and timelapses, improved audio quality and picture quality as well. The hypersmooth was incredible. From what I'm told, a lot of people end up like me: torn between a cheaper Hero 7 (due to it now being classed as 'old-tech'or a more expensive Hero 8 (the latest and greatest).I decided to pay the extra for the Hero 8 and I'm glad I did. Comparing it to the Hero 7, the audio quality is a lot better. The colours are more vibrant and natural. The hypersmooth 2.0 is a big step up from the Hero 7; there is literally no need for a gimbal anymore (sorry DJI Osmo Mobile). You can be running or cycling or driving with this thing and it looks so smooth you could be convinced the footage was captured by a drone flying alongside you. Impressive. The audio quality improvements are a bit marmite. It seems the Hero 8 doesn't so much dampen out the background noise like the Hero 7 did. Instead, it keeps the background noise but sort of sharpens and amplifies the foreground noise. This means that if you are in a windy environment, you will still hear the wind, but in theory you will also be able to hear your voice clearly and make out what you are saying. I, personally, prefer this - it's more natural. The Hero 7's noise cancellation had a tendancy to make your voice sound robotic after it had cut out the background noise and I really didn't like that at all.The additional bits that come with the bundle are nice enough. An extra battery (a must), a memory card (bit small, you will probably want more space), an extendable tripod (useful, but not the best quality) and a headband (yeah... it's OK for running, makes you look a bit silly). If the bundle is on sale then I'd probably recommend it for the tripod and battery, if it's not then I'd probably just pick up the camera and invest in these as you need them - extra battery being the highest priority.Final thing to say is that we're anticipating some call 'mods' for this camera. One of them adds lighting, one of them adds a screen and one adds a shotgun mic. Basically, you are gaining the ability, should you wish, to turn this into a Vlogging set up, should you want it and that's pretty cool for people who want to go down that path.

Sometimes products have the specs but in use the are hard to live with or buggy. This isn’t that! You can really tell it’s a very mature product with all the bugs ironed out, both in camera and app.Firstly, I got this not the Osmo action because this has H265 and the Osmo doesn’t and it is a serious thing for IQNow, first action cam but about my hundredth camera.So..slickness is just wow - want to take a photo underwater ? Set a three second timer with the shortcut. Get near the surface and shout “GoPro take a photo “ Then in you goWant to turn it on when you’re about to start your run on your bike? Just call” GoPro start recording. “Worried about your data? It automatically uploads to the GoPro cloud when you charge it.This will save everything at full quality forever, however many GB that is, for £5 pm, plus you’re insured against accidental breakage too.Video is very sharp. It will shoot RAW. It’s fast and responsive and tough , of course. The stabilisation is completely incredible. I strapped mine to my dog and the footage was perfect....Audio really not bad at all. I have proper mics etc etc but the surround effect you get with this is really impressive. If you’re by a a stream you can hear the voices fine but also know they’re by running water. The app is flawless. Control the camera and set framing? No problemo ( which by the way means you didn’t need the Osmo action’s front facing screen anyway) Update all settings? Check footage? Editing? Yep all in the appThe only thing that hasn’t been very very impressive with this setup is the battery life. I have three batteries and I need them to go out for a two hour adventure with the children and the dog. If you had a heavy day of filming planned you really might need half a dozen batteries ready. They’re cheap enough but it is the first accessory you need to buy. Speaking of accessories there are tonnes of really great accessories for the GoPro available. I bought a cheap £15 kit that had a chest strap, a head strap and a tripod mount and they’re all great.I’m delighted with this camera. The footage is great. There’s lots of shooting options both for photo and video. The ecosystem is very mature and squared away.A great purchase and I’m so taken by the usefulness of action cameras I’ll likely pick up another for shooting another angle.

I've had GP5, GP6, GP7 and the GoPro 8 is definitely most polished and nearly perfect product, delivering superb overall package.Sensor:Although it is the same sensor and processor as GP7, software improvements were made and as a result photos appear less noisy and with a lot better dynamic range.Dynamic range seem to be better in videos seem too, after testing in difficult light condition (sunset).Stabilisation:Outstanding, with HyperSmooth 2.0 it's like having a gimball - that's tested while running.Interface:I like improvements, it is easier to operate camera now, and presets are great and quick way to work with. Also a lot easier to work with and process photos and videos in the app.Issues:Over last months of heavy use, camera froze twice, which is a lot less than previous iterations.Hopefully GoPro can improve it more.Build quality:Excellent. Feels solid, quality materials.Screen is great and bright, touch function works very well.Issues:Three minor issues - I don't feel that the battery compartment door locking is great. Doesn't give you feeling of being very secure, but that is subjective view.Another issue is with the mount - seems to be a bit off as it doesn't slide as nicely into shorty as the case does.Last issue is that automatic uploads don't appear in the android GoPro app - only have one collection there appeared after upload - but they do on the web app and in the Quik app. Conclusion:If you're looking for an action cam and this is in your budget - just go for it, you won't regret. The only exception is if you currently have GP7 - check if really need all new features, GP7 is still great cam and GP8 is just an evolution here, not a revolution, so might not be worth it in some cases.

This is an absolutely brilliant camera ..but I can't give it 5 stars.Video quality - superb. Absolutely brilliant. Better than I could have dreamed of. Crisp & clear images, fluid motion, no issues with bright/shade contrast. Watching the footage back actually looks better than watching it in real life. It really is incredible.Picture quality - good. This is never going to be spectacular. The camera is only about 10-20% the size of my DSLR so it's never going to take the best pictures out there. Not that anybody buys a GoPro for serious DSLR type photography but still, be realistic with your expectations. The picture quality is good.I tend to just film in 4K and select stills from the footage which is easily achieved through the GoPro app.Build quality - ok. At first I would have said brilliant but I think I have found an issue. In the manual it says the built in camera mounts can get hot after use. This makes me think this also serves as a heat sink. Not necessarily a problem but if that's the case it has a major drawback - in a cold environment it allows the cold to penetrate the camera which can render it useless. I did have an issue where the camera stopped working whilst I was swimming in a cold lake. At first I suspected water damage but further investigation reveals this camera just does not like the cold. If it gets too cold it will just die until it's warmed up again. I've heard of reduced battery life in the cold but for it to die outright is just disappointing. Let's not forget this is an action camera - it should be designed specifically for these scenarios. That's why I've taken off one star. Also, the battery life is also slightly disappointing. But other than that this camera is fantastic.

Nice neat action camera but not without problems.Likes:Compact and neat.Feels well made from quality materials.Excellent video footage and choice of recording formats.Built in mounting attachment.Excellent video stabilisation makes your footage look smooth and professional.Easy to use.Can be used & configured remotely using Gopro smartphone app.Dislikes:Poor battery life, less than an hour whilst videoing.Long battery charging time, hours to charge whilst in gopro using samsung fast charger.Lack of accessories included, only one mount. No option to video and take stills similtaneously like previous models, but you can grab stills from video.Average photo quality for stills,my phone takes better.Occasionally it will freeze & crash, to reboot remove battery and restart.Specific remote needs to be purchased, a normal bluetooth remote isn't compatible. Not being able to charge without opening battery door, which falls off in the process. To enhance owning it and not to spoil my enjoyment:Bought a new battery door with charging port built in.Bought a spare batteryLooking into a dedicated seperate charger.Bought a silicone case to protect from scratches.Bought screen protectors to prevent scratching, lens is not replaceable lije previous models.Takes great videos, which is what I bought it for, so won't let the other issues spoil owning it.

Great image stabilisation and super quality footage. Saying that Its a Gopro so wouldn’t expect anything else.Bad bits the battery life is about an hour and 15 mins using activity 2.7 | 60 | S and these batteries are fiddly to remove. Though there are replacement back up batteries available so this is a must. Transferring your footage is very time consuming using wireless mode. I mainly use an Ipad so card transfer not applicable. I find editing using the Gopro App is also mind numbingly clunky. Ok Quik the App is a handy one minute creator but for longer videos not really what I want. There used to be a much better App seemingly called Gopro studio which on research was better. They dropped it in favour of the new Gopro App!The lens looks like it might scratch but is non replaceable. Seemingly its gorilla glass or similar break/scratch resistant material however my Iphone said this and its a mess. So not confident this will last. !!!The Go Pro cloud is a joke. The app keeps asking me to resubscribe for my free trial which it recognises as reducing ( now finished and I have not used it once. And if I try to re subscribe but wont let me go any further. Gopro support are non responsive!Basically I do like the camera but would I buy if I knew this? Probably not.Get your act together GoPro folks will stray if this is your future plan.

Bought this as an upgrade from the Hero Black 5, did many hours of research into this and the DJI Osmo Action camera (as the osmo was a fair bit cheaper at the time). Finally pulled the trigger and got this when the price dropped a little while ago. Have to say I love the image stabilisation on the Black 8 - a big upgrade over my Hero 5, it makes a big difference and the image quality is slightly improved. The sound quality is OK but not amazing but this can be improved by adding the media mod (for another £79.99 if you need it for vlogging etc). The battery life is middle of the road, improves when you switch off all the WiFi and Bluetooth bells and whistles... Not too sure about the plastic flip out mount yet...all in all a good camera and a definite upgrade over my old hero 5, however if you need a good camera for travelling etc you should also check out the DJI Osmo Action.. why... its cheaper, has an added front facing camera, has "rocksteady" stabilisation which is pretty much on par with the gopro Hypersmooth. To sum up: both great cameras it just depends where your alligences lie!!

I upgraded from the GoPro 7 black to this GoPro 8 black bundle, not a huge improvement on the 7 black but definitely an improvement in stabilisation , I got it at a good price with £100 off, paying £300 with spare battery , headmount and GoPro shorty , I sold my GoPro 7 for a decent price so it was a bargain price with the extras costing about £65 to buy desperately at the time, so it was a win win for me as i wanted the extras anyway.I use it a lot making YouTube videos, the built in attachment at the bottom of the GoPro 8 black comes in handy to attach the GoPro straight to your tripod without using a housing like on the 7 black, that feature plus the extra stabilisation sold it for me.The extra battery comes in very handy because the battery life on the GoPro 8 black is just like the 7 black, doesn't last long. The GoPro 8 is a great little camera not much better than the 7 but with the extras and the price i paid and selling my GoPro hero 7 for a good price then it was definitely worth upgrading.Very pleased with this camera

Camera and video quality is great. I can recommend this camera to users who don`t want to do any after work as the picture is already filtered and over coloured. (I would describe as social media ready out of the box.)But no the cons:- in 4k 60Fps recording it is heating heavily after a few minutes.- the flip mount on the bottom is shouting to be broke down.- camera lens is not changeable as it was in the previous models so protector is a must- mobile software is slow and unstable. 4 out of 10 times it does not connect to phone (tried with Iphone 11 pro and Huawei mate 20 pro)- when you make a 4k recording there is no preview available on the phone.- and last the biggest issue is GoPro is including a cable next to the camera what is not compatible with newer computers. When you connect to PC it does not appear as a device. I researched for it and it is a known common issue but GoPro does not bother about it. So factor in that you have to purchase straight an additional USB 3.1 cable otherwise it is not working with the PC.

Worthwhile upgrade from a Hero 5 but not without some shortcomings.Video quality is excellent and stabilisation remarkable, delivering buttery smooth images while hurtling down the side of a mountain. The integrated folding mounting ears are a great improvement over the cases and frames required with older modelsLess good is the non-replaceable lens cover and the silly battery door which frequently detaches itself whilst attempting to plug in the cable. The latter is, I understand, to allow a ‘mod’ device to be attached although this removes the waterproof rating of the camera rendering it somewhat pointless for my purposes. If you own a Hero 7 (or perhaps 6)maybe wait a year and see what the 9 brings.

The stability and performance of this camera is amazing. It is better than the previous generation hero black 7 and Osmo action. It can shoot very stable video even running. But its heating problem seems doesn't be solved. Just like the previous generation, it getting hot and crash easily when I using. This crash (see the video) is the second time this week. This problem is very bothering to me because it leads to the loss of my video and wastes my time to recording again. If your work is unrepeatable, I suggest you better consider this issue before purchasing. Except for this problem, it is the best action camera with a good price at present. Very suitable for travel or sports recording.

And it works well, I was surprised at how good the 4k image quality from this tiny cam is, the sound directly from the inbuilt mic isn't too shabby either, I'm waiting on the Media Mod which makes adding an off cam mic really easy and as I already have the tiny Rode wireless go and their excellent lav mic I can capture the sound attached to my subject allowing for professional audio recording. The cam also does slow motion and supports lots of codecs and while it can't compare with my Panny GH5 it costs a fraction of the price while offering almost as good stabilisation too.Don't hesitate to buy this great little cam 10/10
