I'm sort of fussy about which strings I used on my fiddles, and after years of playing, I've narrowed my choices down to three or four products that I purchase regularly. I've noticed that each of my fiddles seem to favor a certain type of string and that a certain type of string will always sound better than others. I have fiddles strung up with steel, stranded-core steel, and synthetic strings, and I have my favorite brands of each. I have used Zyex before, but I haven't tried these strings on all my fiddles to see how they sound. This time I took the time to try them on several different instruments to see if the sound quality held up across the board.I'm happy to say they produced a great tone on every instrument I put them on, and I find them very playable. I also liked the short break-in time...it seems almost as short as steel strings. Within a day they'd done most of their stretching, and held their tuning very nicely. I normally play Thomastik Vision Solo strings on my favorite fiddle, and I don't think the Zyex sounded as good as the Visions, but they were definitely very good. Overall, Zyex strings are an excellent choice for a player who loves the sound and feel of synthetic strings, but doesn't want to dish out $60+ for other top synthetic brands. My only complaint, which is minor, is the aluminum-wound D. Most of the synthetic core strings I play have aluminum-wound A strings, and they seem to be the most break-prone. I haven't broken a D string yet, but it does worry me. I see that you can purchase individual D strings for about $13, so that's nice. In any case, I'd score these strings about 8+ overall on a scale of 1 to 10 (combining scores for durability, playability, tone and cost).

I hadn't played my violin in years before I ordered these strings, and when the strings arrived, I pulled my old violin out of the closet and had it restrung in just a few minutes. These Zyex strings rolled out easily and straightened out fully after the pegs were engaged. After tuning, I was surprised at the very buttery and mellow tones these strings made--no shrieks or tinny trebles or buzzing bass notes. I also have a cello strung with extremely expensive strings, and I think my next purchase of strings for my cello will be Zyex because I think they sound just as beautiful as the more expensive brand.I'm certainly not an expert, but now that I've got my violin restrung with this set,I'll be enjoying playing for the first time in years, and these strings sound wonderful. These are wonderful strings that are as easy on the wallet as they are on the ears. I love them.

I play fiddle, so I need different things from my strings than a classical player might. The type of music I play mostly switches from bluegrass-type tunes to folk and blues, so I need a string that is responsive and "fiddley-sounding", but sweet enough to pull some good tone for the slow folk songs. These strings broke in fairly quickly, within a day or so, and sounded fantastic on my instrument. They are pretty responsive for synthetic strings, and the low end, the D and G, are booming and full of wonderful tones and color. The A is a little weak, but sounds very nice. I haven't tried the E, as I have fallen in love with the Jargar E and don't wish to try anything else. I've only had the Zyex on a week or so,so I can't address the longevity. Overall, I've been pretty impressed with the sound and playability of these strings. We'll see how I feel in another month or so.

These Zyex strings have a nice warm sound without the irritating metallic buzz that similar strings sometimes have. The sound across all four strings is quite even. I found that the break-in period was quite short. I was able to enjoy using them almost immediately, but the strings sounded much more clear and rich after a few hours. I used them on an instrument with a dark, viola-like sound, and these strings helped to brighten up the sound in a way that is not brassy or too soprano-like.These strings are very for good for the price, and therefore are a good deal for students. They don't have as much depth as Obligato, but perhaps they will last longer, and they cost less than half of what other good strings cost.Recommended.

At first my string set came with no E string support (the plastic little ring that goes through the E string) and when I starting tuning the A string, it immediately started unraveling, showing that it wouldn't last very long. I then got a new free set after and it came with everything. The sound is warm and the strings are thicker than the Tonica strings, which is a good thing, as that is how they should be or it would be too easy, making your fingers lazy and less active.I would recommend this set to someone who likes a nice warm but bright sound. It sets within a week.Good for the price, happy that I bought it.

I had some regular D'addario strings that came with my violin when I purchased it. After buying these strings and new rosin, my tone has sky rocketed! It sounds SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER. I'm very happy with my purchase. The strings feel so soft on my fingertips too. Which was never really a problem to begin with since I've been playing guitar for a very long time. Great strings that will certainly increase your sound quality. I'm sure there are better strings, but I didn't want to get anything to expensive and these have been working just fine for me. All I need to do now is replace my bow with a real horse hair bow.

While maybe not top of the line, these D'Addario Zyex Violin Strings are quite nice. I am just a casual violin player and have both the traditional instrument and an electric. They definitely sounded at least a little warmer and fuller on the acoustic instrument and are certainly a big improvement over the stock strings on the electric. On both instruments they respond wonderfully the (well rosined) bow and needed very little break-in time. The price is right and quite a value in my opinion. Zyex Strings will make a cheap instrument sounds good and a quality instrument sound even better!~ Kort

I like these strings a lot. I play fiddle music, and often tune the G and D strings up one step. Some kinds of strings are weakened by this, and break soon. I've been using these for years with no problem.I also like the sound. To my ear they are quite close to Dominants. I get a gorgeous sound from my violin, which is often noted by other players, including symphony musicians. The fact that the strings are inexpensive is a bonus. On the minus side, the windings are not polished smooth, especially on the A string, so you can get a little string noise when shifting.

These synthetic core strings give such a wonderful, warm, rich tone, even on a student level violin. Also, they're made from a type of synthetic material that doesn't react poorly when the weather changes, like some strings I've used. They break in quickly, within hours, which is really nice too. If your instrument has a bright tone, these are a great choice for balancing everything out.?fit full sized 4/4 size violin?medium tension strings?D string included with the DZ310A set is aluminum wound?corrosion resistant packaging?Made in the USA

A great set of strings! They settled in very quickly (a few hours!!) and make a very good sound - warm, not bright. And they work well with my brand new violin (made this year). I'm currently rehearsing daily in my orchestra and playing a range of different music (Brahms, Britten, MacMillan). These strings work well for the whole lot. I find them to be responsive enough, but not too much. Oh yes, and they stay in tune! The best thing about them might be the short time it takes them to settle in and that the stay in tune for a long time.

The Zyex strings are a major improvement over other strings I have used and have brought a warmth to my instrument I had not heard to date using steel core. The tone is consistent and pleasant without the shrill tone you get with other strings as you break them in. The Zyex strings stretched over the course of about 4 hours and with some fine tuning they have held since. The set I received was a ball-end making installation pretty straight forward and fast. The only thing I wish now...was that they were available for my cello.

These strings produce a pleasant tone without the shrillness that sometimes occurs with less expensive nylon core strings. The winding is smooth and the strings settled in fairly quickly. I see that most other reviewers have indicated that these strings tend to have good longevity, so we are looking forward to using them for a good few months at least. We'll edit this review if this turns out not to be the case. For the price, the Zyex strings are a good value.

I bought these to string an older violin for a relative. The violin was inherited from a long passed ancestor and had not been restrung in over 60 years. After cleaning the violin and adding a bridge, the strings were added. They really brought the instrument to life. I loved the tone and character of the strings and plan to buy them again for my own violins. As a bonus, the strings were flat wound, which made the instrument more playable for my relative.

As a long time Zyex user on my Viola, I was not disappointed. The tone is dark and warm as expected, they broke in within 10 minutes, and I have great hope that they will last at least a year, as has been my experience with previous Zyex products.I recompiled these for anyone with either a bright instrument, or a quiet one. It will solve both problems and last you for a long time.

Zyex strings are pretty fantastic. They achieve nearly the same warmth in tone as gut strings, without the drawbacks. I live in an area where temperature and humidity fluctuates wildly, so these are a blessing as their synthetic cores are pretty much immune to such changes. Also, their durability outlasts gut strings by quite a bit, saving you quite a bit of money in the long run.
