Lovely strings. I only learnt of their existence recently when I found a stray reference online that my guitar (Godin Acousticaster) ships with these strings. I bought the guitar in the 1990s, having loved the sound when I tried it out in the shop, but the various different strings I had used on it subsequently tended to sound jangly and thin. I recently purchased a good-quality acoustic guitar and the all too obvious disparity between the new guitar's pleasant tone and that of the Godin (which I had recently strung with D'Addario Regular Lights - 0.10 top string) prompted me to think again about finding better strings for the Godin. My string quest finally led me to D'Addario Jazz Lights. Before ordering them, I was slightly put off by the heavier gauge (0.10 to 0.12) as I have a severed tendon in the middle finger of my left hand, which makes holding down strings a fair bit harder for me. Also, I'm not a jazz player so that also put me off a bit. But I took the plunge and it proved to be a good decision. My fingers cope really well with the heavier gauge and it's not been a problem. The Jazz Lights really suit my finger style playing, and give me extra volume and improved tone, particularly on the top three strings. Now my Godin Acousticaster is back to its best and delivering the sound I fell in love with when I first tried it out in the shop more than 20 years ago.

After much experimentation with lots of different manufacturers I can say without any reservation that if you play in low tuning you need to choose D'Addario. Bright, crisp, full of tone, and hard wearing. I have these strings on my Jackson Flying V and Ltd 6 string tuned to Drop A# and C standard respectively and the tone and longevity of these strings is unmatched.Caution though, if you want to put these babies on a guitar with a floating bridge (i.e. Floyd Rose) you are going to have to add additional springs to your tremolo in order to balance the tension because there is a lot of tension! Adding additional strings is simplicity itself, remove the back cover, make room for the springs (usually you have space for 5 but three are installed at an angle so you have to rearrange them), and add in the extra two.Further caution, whilst the additional springs balances out the tension on the bridge, dive-bombing requires additional effort. If you have visions of getting these strings, drop tuning, and dive-bombing like Dimebag, you might need to double up on arm day at the gym.

I love these strings; I've had them on my strat 3 or 4 times now, and I get a great deal of satisfaction from the big, chunky sound - especially of the bassier strings. They're good for tuning down a step, and they're good for playing growly low blues notes, and they're good for nice smooth, full sounding jazz barre chords further up the neck.Downsides are that they pull much harder on the bridge, so if you're keeping them on long term you probably need to make adjustments to compensate. I don't do that, but I don't mind the higher action too much. They're also really hard to bend as you get towards the stock, if string-bending blues is your thing. Bending string 3 on the first fret, for instance, can be really hard.I guess they're not really designed for strats, but I love them all the same and I suspect I'll keep using them every once in a while. They last well too -- I can leave these on far longer than regular strings :)

Having purchased a really beautiful old Hohner guitar recently - which came minus strings and a damaged neck.......after repairing the neck and giving the guitar and a good clean and polish, I decided to invest in this set of "Nashville tuning" strings for a different, lighter sound.(Nashville tuning - using a 6 string guitar - is achieved by using the top - thinnest- 6 strings from a 12 string guitar set-up).Although I'm pleased with the resulting sound, I will add a word of caution... that is the original high "G" string (actually a 9 thou diameter which could be construed a extra light "E" string) snapped between F# and G using standard tuning due to the very high tension limit imposed on this string. After replacing this with another string I decided to tune down a whole tone, reducing this after a few days to a semi-tone below standard tuning. I will probably tune up the remaining semi-tone a little later.

Had the same set for nearly a year now, incredibly durable strings. Getting another set 'just in case', but overall they keep remarkably good tone well past the point most strings would go completely dead. They're described as 'Blues/Jazz' strings however they're a lot more versatile that, I personally play a mix of Alternative Rock, Punk and Heavy Metal; which they are very well suited for. The wound third is a must for me, the thick rhythm and creamy leads are what I aim for, however if you're not a fan then I'd recommend the regular EXL115 (no W, so to speak).I've used Ernies before and they break way too quickly, I've used Rotos and they lose tone way too quickly, but in general I've found D'addarios to be solid, reliable strings. This set is no exception, I highly recommend them.

I bought these strings to enhance the sound of my 6 string esp guitar. I have just started a new band which use the tuning of drop B. I previously used strings of a gauge that was a lot less than these bad boys but for the scale length of my guitar (24.5) they just would not hold the tuning and i had all sorts of intonation problems. I cannot recommend these strings enough for anyone who is playing in tunings that are lower than drop D. The build quality is really nice, easily as good as the big names such as Earnie Ball and they have helped me to intonate my guitar efficiently and solved my guitar going out of tune in those lowly tuned situations! 5 stars!

These strings add a whole new option if you have a little-used spare electric guitar. They comprise just the high strings from a 12 string set: the high E and B are like any usual 6 string set, but the low E, A, D and G all tune an octave higher. In itself it's a lovely jangly chord sound, especially with single-coil pickups. Playing chords against a second regular-tuned guitar, the sound is gorgeous - the two guitars kind of adding up to a 12 string guitar with four hands playing it. That's not just a good option for performance but also for lush overdubs.I've bought effect pedals that were less inspiring or entertaining than a set of these strings!

I used to use only Dean Markley - Blue Steel and Helix, but the gauges were not heavy enough, I used this set to put on my 7 string S7420 dropping the last string off so 65 through to 11 using D rather than Standard E with the top being a A rather than B same as Korn use, after altering the floating trem which took around 5 - 10 mins it was perfect the sound was big and really as I wanted it, I have since gone to using 60 - 10 Dunlop Heavy cores, but that is as I am tuning E with a top B now, as soon as we change back to using D with top A I will be getting an other set of these.

I used to be a fan of Ernie Ball's strings until I purchased my 7 string guitar and found out that Ernie Ball's 7 string sets aren't as good. So I decided to look into D'Addario's selection and found the perfect gauge for my Ab tuning. After reading several reviews I decided to purchase them and they are far superior to any strings I've ever owned. I have now had them on my Schecter Omen Extreme 7 for about 6 months and they're still in excellent condition! Would highly recommend these to any 7 string players looking for some long-lasting, quality strings.

I bought these for tuning my 7 string down to A standard, as I like heavy strings with a lot of tension... well I think I found my limit. I would not recommend these for ADGCFAD tuning on a 26" scale length unless you are prepared for absurd tension. That said they sound great despite being hard to play and I am sure they play well when tuned to F# on an 8 string. I think I will be going back to a 10-62 set when I get sick of these. If only there were as much choice for 7 string sets as there are for 6 and 8 string.

This is a convenient way to buy the top six of a twelve-string set. Perhaps you need a spare guitar to try these (if you haven't already) but it's really worth it for the different sounds produced. Not really intended for playing solo but these add colour and interest to chord work. String preference is subjective but D'Addario are reasonable strings and produce even tone and volume. I like them as they add a Byrd-like overtone to group work.

A perfect and balanced set, awesome choice of gauges by D'Addario. As always, the strings stay bright, mantain tone and last longer than other guitar strings brands, making D'Addario my favourite brand when it comes to replace the strings of my guitar. My guitar is setup to play an half step lower (Meshuggah tuning) and these strings do it perfectly fine, even though they're designed for "standard" 8 string tuning.Highly Recommended!

Excellent strings. Great sound, (Burns Apache guitar - Vox amp).I was under the impression that the lightest strings with a wound 3rd that you could get nowadays were 11-48's.Found about these via Bing.com.For the younger generation who have never used wound 3rd string give it a try. A more even sound, (in my opinion) across the strings.Well done D'Addario.

5.8.2015

D'Addario is my choice when it comes to guitar strings have tried higher gauge strings like 11 and 10 which have some benefits but are hard on fingers. And for beginner you want to practice as much as you can and these are built for that purpose they are easy to push down and plays just nicely. Also they have a descent lifespan. Good stuff.

29.12.2014

These are the best strings you could want and at a very reasonable price, the quality is first class and cannot be faulted, I have used a verity of strings over the years and have settled on D'Addario which I find to be perfect for me, if you like a nice bright rich tone get these strings you wont be disappointed.
