I really like these Earthwood strings. I used Martin for the longest time but found that only one set in every four were "doing the business". I tried Elixir (and it's a great idea to coat them for longevity) but I found that after six weeks they still weren't "played in"! Crash-crash-crash. I don't have sweat problems so maybe those aren't for me. I tried D'Addario phosphor-bronze and I found them too "piano like", stiff and a trifle dull. So then I tried Earthwood bronze and it's immediate delight - very fresh sounding, supple, great for finger-style or plectrum. They don't last all that long but you can't have everything, can you? They consistently give the best sound for about 4 weeks.I use them on a 24 and a half inch scale length guitar and they're the business but I don't understand why so many guitar makers are going for the longer 25 inch scale length these days - nothing works on those except hard plectrum techniques and strung with phosphor-bronze strings and those "quack quack" bridge pick ups - I don't at all understand that. Bring back the 60s. I saw so may acoustic players play through a single mic to an outside audience with no trouble at all. I've even done it myself.

As someone that prefers playing electric guitar and dislikes the limitations of an acoustic guitar, the Rock and Blues strings are a nice compromise. The high strings are very light for extremely easy to bend and the bass strings are Medium/Heavy for meaty power chords. I'd go as far to say that bending with these strings is as easy as it is on a strat, which is is saying something. The only downside is that chords don't have that sparkle and twang which you'd normally associate with an acoustic so if you're into playing traditional acoustic guitar songs then avoid these at all cost. They also have less volume and sound noticeably thinner overall. In summary,if you're into soloing or playing licks and want to practice on your acoustic as opposed to your electric, give these a whirl, they're extremely nice to play. If, however, you prefer the traditional sound of an acoustic and play a lot of chords then you might want to consider the light or medium gauges, or higher. I'll get the extra light/light strings next time and see which one fits the perfect middle ground. Hope this helps with making your decision.

Previously I had Daddario EJ15's on my guitar. I play a mix of acoustic and blues type lead. As soon as I had these tuned up, I immediately regretted putting them on. I played a couple of chords and it sounded like a whole chunk of tone was missing, a bit like trying to listen to Drum n Bass through pocket speakers. Then I played a few lines of lead, and damn they are good. Feels like playing an electric. Playing notes around 12 fret upwards on the high E string produces a great tone, a lot warmer (if not quieter) than the other strings. They are super easy to bend and the sound and feel of individual strings is great.Chords still sound awefull though! But since these are blues string designed to be thin for the style of play, you kinda would expect that.My advice is buy these if you play a lot more lead/blues style. If you play a lot of chords, these just won't do unless you have a second acoustic you can keep these on.Over all, the definitely do the job they are designed for.

I've used sets of these strings on several acoustic guitars and I love them. The unwound/plain-wire 'G' string just seems to work better for the blues/rock that I play, and unlike the traditional wound 'G' string used in most sets of acoustic strings it doesn't break after repeated string-bending.They also make it easier to make the transition from electric to acoustic guitars since they have the same balance of wound-to-unwound strings, and thus feel the same when played. Some people seem to have tuning issues with the unwound 'G' string. I've never encountered this, however on some really cheap guitars with bad intonation (i.e. ones that go noticeably out of tune as you move up the neck),the unwound 'G' does seem to suffer more than a wound 'G', which can make it sound more out of tune than other strings high-up on the neck.

This review is of Ernie Ball’s extra-light ‘Earthwood’ 80/20 set of six strings for an acoustic guitar. The gauges are: 10, 14, 20, 28, 40, 50; the G (gauge 20) is braided bronze like the D, A & bottom E.I use these strings on two guitars: a 1984 Yamaha Jumbo 6-string and a 2006 Ovation Applause Elite, which is the instrument I play most of the time. These strings have a crisp, bright sound especially for the first few weeks, after which they settle down and sound ‘warmer’. I find the 10-gauge for top-E and 14-gauge for the B to be near-ideal for playability, and with the four bronze strings they deliver a rich, fulsome chord sound. The sealed packaging is a great idea and ensures you don’t need to worry about corrosion during storage if you’re in a damp climate. At this price, these strings are a steal.

PROSGreat acoustic tone, sounds like a regular acoustic guitar to me compared to my previous D'Addario strings which had a more esoteric and bright sound with high treble to me. This one feel down-to-earth with balanced mids, balanced-to-above-average bass tone and slightly above-average treble tone. It sounds just like a regular acoustic guitar would sound if you walked in a guitar shop with an added bright sound which is not very evident or loud but is very pleasant.CONSThis set was a quality set of strings, but sadly when I tuned down to drop B, the G-string snapped. Yes, tuning DOWN made it snap! So if you plan to use drop tunings and alternate between standard tunings, be warned!

Bought these to replace some Martin Extra Lights that sounded completely dead on my acoustic guitar, so bad that I could hardly bear to play it! Initially I thought I had mucked up replacing the nut and saddle, and lowering the action when I decided the original strings were on their way out. But with these EB Extra Lights things are back to normal. Almost double the price of the Martins, but still cheap enough and well worth the extra as they have really nice tone. Should have been no surprise really, as EB Super Slinkys always sound fantastic on the electric. Now that I have these on the acoustic, playing it is a pleasure once again! I really can't recommend them highly enough.

I play a Vintage V400 acoustic which is a nice inexpensive but quality instrument. These strings bring the sound to a new level, they are bright particularly at the top end, and whether strumming or finger picking I am impressed by the clarity of the sound and sustain. At £5.20 a set inc free shipping these are great value. If you are a hard strumming player they might lose the edge they have over other strings as the sound will dull slightly. They will continue to play well even after a long time on the guitar particularly if you don't beat the life out of them. Each instrument is different so give them a try instead of your usual stringsI doubt if you will be disappointed

Wow what a difference new strings make. I am a new player of only a few months, & learnt many chords with some finger tip pain using D'Addario EXP 12-53 regular light Phosphor Bronze. I changed to Ernie Ball Earthwood light 11-52 & the ease of playing is a magnitude better for feel & sound. Even the elusive F Major is attainable, which was a stumbling block for me combining the B & E string. Durability/Longevitiy are not issues for me at this time, as I only play for short bursts. D'Addario EXP's claim extended life, although they cost approx. 3 x more expensive...your decision no doubt will match your playing needs. I found a noticeable difference...well pleased so far.

I'm no expert of acoustic guitar strings but I've played electric guitar on and off for 20 years and after trying all the major brands of electric guitar strings, I've always used ernie ball.I only recently bought another acoustic guitar after getting bored with them many years ago and I'm really enjoying it atm.The guitar I bought was just a cheapo but it sounds pretty good.I have so far tried d'addario and these ernie balls. The ernie balls sound alot brighter than the d'addario strings but dont seem to have as much bass.I'm not sure about string life as I've o ly had these fitted a few days.Overall, for the money you can't go wrong.

2 months ago I had restrung my acoustic guitar with a set of elixir nanoweb coated strings. Those were supposed to last a lot longer than other strings but I found it hard to take to them as i found that the coating on the wound strings made them feel slippy and hard to play because of that. Now I've put the Ernie ball set on and what a difference, not only do they feel brilliant but they produce a brilliant tone and the gauges are lighter. I very much prefer these to the elixir set that I was recommended but I would honestly recommend this Ernie ball set as not only are they brilliant strings but they're half the price of the elixir sets.

Excellent strings! They sound incredible, very bright and pretty easy to play. I probably should've got the gauge up from these as I prefer a thicker string (I play the Power Slinky (11-48) electric set from Ernie Ball), but that's just a personal thing and should NOT be taken as a negative! The delivery was prompt, arriving a day or 2 after I ordered them, and the packaging was just a standard card Amazon envelope which those who have purchased something of a similar size from Amazon before would be familiar with.I strongly recommend these to any acoustic player, especially if you're going to be playing some acoustic lead stuff.

I have used Ernie Ball Earthwood strings for almost 40 years but this is the first time I've chosen light gauge strings - and I think I got exactly what I expected. I am used to the harshness of sound that a new set of Earthwood strings always has so that came as no surprise but I know very well that the sound will mellow quickly with use. I am a regular user of EXTRA light-gauge strings but I bought these light-gauge on a whim and yes, both the feel AND tone are slightly different but it's interesting to experiment now and then. I like the fuller tonal quality of this set of strings so I'll award them five stars.

Fantastic strings, easy to play and easy to tune. String bending and tapping also sounds brilliant with them. The G string is unwound, allowing additional flexibility and bluesier tone overall.BUT... be VERY cautious when putting them on. Wind the strings SLOWLY. I ended up having to buy two packs because I was a bit over-zealous and wound the top E string too quickly and it snapped straight away. That's all though. Great for acoustic rock; blues; slide and lead licks. Bonamassa and Trout better watch their backs, I'm coming for you now! :D

Perfect for my daughter's new guitar (second hand as she is only.just starting to learn to play) the strings needed replacing and these are perfect! Very good value for money and will probably last until she either upgrades her guitar or the strings are worn! Overall very pleased. They also came in separate little envelopes so no confusion of which string goes where (both husband and I already know as he has played the electric guitar and I violin) and a small list of instruction for the novice, but very good quality and fast delivery too!!
