If you haven't got any previous versions of Cricket by EA and are a cricket fan then I would highly recommend this.If you have got previous versions then I think there are some subtle but significant improvements to this version.Firstly the batting is a lot better. The ability to control both front foot/back foot and also the shot as opposed to just the shot makes a great difference and makes it more realistic. Yes you can get the game to choose the front/back foot automatically for you as in previous versions but doing it yourself immerses you in the game even more. Also it's a bit easier to score runs in this version from the off, which is much better especially if you are playing the 20/20 mode.In previous versions you needed to score a shed load of 4s to get your confidence meter up one blob and then seemed to loose most of it if you played and missed, whilst your cpu controlled opponents confidence meter seemed to shoot up once they hit a risky single. But in this version it's a lot more realistic which makes to 20/20 mode actually playable now.The fielding is also a bit more realistic. Again in previous versions the ball always seemed to go to the opposition fielder who then threw it in at arrow like accuracy and bullet like pace straight over the stumps, every single time. But in this version there are more noticeable misfields, the fielder takes a bit of time to gather the ball and release it, and the throws are more realistic from the deep, i.e. sometimes they bounce before getting to the keeper.Bowling hasn't changed that much (apart for one small subtle change over which button you press to lock the place where the ball will pitch which is an improvement) but I thought the major problems were with the batting and fielding in previous versions anyway. The Ashes mode is great as well as you can play the same matches as are going on with the same teams and see if you can do better than England are doing at the time of writing. On the down side the commentary still is a bit hit and miss. Mark Nicholas seems to have recorded some new commentary but Richie Benauds seems to be the same as used in previous versions. And they still stay stupid things like commenting on someone's long spell of bowling when you've just brought them on. Or saying a lucky edge through the slips for 4 was a great shot. But overall it's not too bad.Whilst I was very disappointed in Tiger Woods 2007 as it's just a cynical rehash of previous versions with no obvious improvements, EA Sports have redeemed themselves with this update of their Cricket series. I think the fact that they have left it 2 years to update the Cricket instead of updating it every year as they do Tiger Woods does mean that when they do there are real improvements which may be not so good for EA Sports accountants but is better for the punters who buy the games.

Cricket 07 is undoubtedly one of the best cricket games there is. With the new innovation added to the batting side of the game, Cricket 07 is a cut above other cricket games. You control the batsmen with the two (or one, depending on the settings) analogue sticks. This is far better than using the circle button etc to execute cricket shots because you really feel you are actually playing the shot using your own skill with timing, placement, and power. This new addition however does not make the game too challenging as the difficulty settings range from 1 star to 5 and so you can tailor how hard and sereiously you want to play the game. One star is very easy where even if you horribly miss-time the shot you can get away with a single and not an edge. 5 star, for me, is impossible. To get the timing right you have had to have played the game for months and months on end.The bowling side to the game is good aswell. New special balls have been included such as the "wrongen" with murali and Hogg. There are sponsors such as Gray Nicholls, Kookaburra, GM, Slazenger and Puma but unfortunately no Woodworm, this adds a further realism to the game. In fact Cricket 07 feels so real. The commentary is a little basic but the familiar voices of Mark Nicholas and Richie Benaud add authenticity to the game. The graphics are good, and quite smooth with the camera behind the batsmen but not as sharp with the standard view behind the bowler. A great improvement on the prequel. The major negatives to this game is that it requires so much space on memory cards. 1057Kb is needed to save a match. Another 1057Kb to save a tournament, another 600Kb+ to save a roster. Whats even worse is that only New Zealand, England, South Africa and Australia are licensed. Other teams such as India have false player names, for example, Tendulkar is called Tendehar. You can edit this in the edit mode but you have to save this to the roster and not the "profile" so you use up 600Kb+. 1057Kb is also needed for a profile aswell. What is really great though is that there are all the tournaments. The ashes mode is great, the world championship is authentic and there are plenty of other tours to take part in. There is also county cricket for England and Australia.Overall it is worth getting if you're a cricket fan. However, it is not worth getting if you are unfamiliar with the sport.

Cricket games have not really got the attention that other EA Sports games such as Tiger Woods PGA Tour or FIFA. And now with Codemasters' Brian Lara series out EA needed to make big improvements or they will not sell.Batting is now massively improved since 05 with the new so called 'Century Stick' where you move the analog stick in the direction where you want to hit it. Sometimes it is a bit unresponsive so you may end up blocking a shot rather than hooking it for six. Also new is a timing gauge which means you need to play your shot on ideal timing or you will edge it or not hit it far. A good batsman such as Sachin Tendulkar has a large ideal timing bar and a bad one such as Glen McGrath has a small one so you can usually edge it behind. There is a difficulty setting from 1 to 5 stars. 1 star means you can get ideal timing and smash it for six every ball and the opponents get loads of edges. 5 star means you can rarely get ideal timing and you have to leave wide ones and block straight ones.Bowling on a high difficulty setting is quite boring, especially in Test matches. Choosing a delivery is the only good bit and is hasn't changed since 05. Fielding is automated unless you make it manual but dodgy camreas mean it is quite hard. The game focuses' mainly on The Ashes with the whole 2006/07 series and 2005. What a shame bowling in test matches is so boring. Another thing is 2005 Ashes Scenarios where you do things like score 50 with Pietersen in the First Test or win the Second test with Australia with two wickets left. The game also has fully licensed domestic leagues from England and Australia and this year's World Cup. However many of the International teams are not licensed so you playing as Tendehar instead of Tendulkar. The commentary is done by Richie Beaunad and Mark Nicholas and despite being repetetive it is quite funny. Sometimes the commentator says that's 3 sixes in this over and you haven't even started it yet.The music is really your opinion and you either love it or hate it. However I haven't heard of any of the songs.Graphics 7.5Sound 7.0Gameplay 7.5Lasting Appeal 8.5OverallCricket fans should definitely get this but others shouldn't.7.8/10

After previously buying Cricket 05, and Brian Lara International Cricket 2005, I found major flaws with both of the games. With Cricket 05, it was far too hard, in contrast BLIC 2005 was far too easy. With Ashes fever hitting the UK (admittedly before the series had begun) Cricket 07 was the first item on my Christmas list. Since putting it into my Playstation on Chrsitams Day it has barely been taken out.I am currently playing the game on level 3 difficulty, out of 5, and although it is getting a bit easy you cannot continually play attacking shots to every ball or you will get out.Graphically, the game is very good, with the only problem being that EA assured us that there were many player likenesses, something that I struggle to find often. However, it must be said that you hardly ever notice it during the game. There are some glitches, such as displaying the batsman at the non-strikers ends score instead of the batsman at the strikers end, but again it hardly ever bothers you when you are in the full swing of a match. The bowling in the game is much the same as in Cricket 05 (which incidentally was the games main strongpoint) Although many feel that the bowling aspect of the game is boring, but with the revamped field editor it can be incredibly rewarding to set your own fields and plans of attack and then carry them out yourself. For example, Australia's Michael Clarke seems to have a weakness when hooking or pulling, so I immediately place a fielder at Backwards Square leg and test him out with a few bouncers. One main problem though involves the stats for many players, particularly at the International level. Ashley Giles has been given a spin attribute of 92, only 6 less than the great Shane Warne. Also, Chris Read has been given an average batting attributes of around 80. Simon Jones cannot bowl a delivery that swings. It seems that EA do not truly represent some players in their games.Overall however this is a fantastic game, and although I have given it 5 stars there is room for improvement. If EA keep strictly along these lines in developing this series the next installment could be completely mind blowing.

ea sports cricket 07 is a good game, once youve got to grips with the new controls. the new century stick batting control is a really good addition, which makes you feel more in control of the batsman. the bowling however is VERY boring and VERY repetative, although you can autoplay this and completley skip the AI's innings by going on to auto play in the game menu. The AI, particulary in first class and test matches, scores VERY slowly. It's best just to autoplay their innings. the 1-5 star rating system is also good. 1-3 stars are extrmely easy and it really isnt to hard to score 36 off an over frequently. However, 4 stars is a challenge, and will make a good game. 5 stars is virtualy impossible,my highest score being 190 all out of 78 overs (ive been bowled out for under 100 so may times) but this is a challenge and its quite good fun. you can also do lots of things on cricket 07. ashes; 05 ashes, 06/07 ashes and 05 ashes scenarios. you can play the world cup in the caribbean in 2007, play the anual world series in austrialia, play a test series, tour a part of the world, go in the nets, play the english county season, australian state season (all with lisnesed cups so liverpool county cup, c&g trophy twenty20 cup, natwest pro 40 etc) or you can just play a match. one day matches can be reduced in overs, so you have the choice of 10 overs, 20 or 50. ea cricket 07 has lots of things to explore. on the down side the comentry is AWFUL even though it has legend richie Benaud and mark nicholos. the umpiring for lbws is dreadfull, ive been given out lbw when the balls pitched outside the line of leg stump and hit me on the bad outside the line! playing a shot. there are also a few dogy run outs given. that aside ea cricket 07 is really good and i recomend it to anyone!

I've owned Cricket 04, 05 and BLIC and I have to say that this is a much better cricket game then any of them.I won't go into every detail. This was definitely designed with the batting in mind though as it is by far the most fun/satisfying part. The dual stick controls (left for front or back foot and right controling the shot) are excellent though do take some getting used too initially. The ability to view from behind the batsman is also an inspired addition. Again if you're used to the earlier mentioned games it takes some adjustment but is more rewarding. The 5 skill settings for tours/tests/tournaments are much better. The first three are v easy and you'll be hitting a boundry a ball almost every time in test matches.Once you up it to level 4 though you need more judgement as you timing has to good else you rund the risk of nicking it behind to the keeper/slips. So the decision making is more important. Do I try for a scoring shot, should I just block it or leave it alone? If like me you're no much interested in bowling the other team out you can autoplay their innings. Then you have to decide how to bat your innings according to the situation you've been set. Slog out those few overs left to get the runs needed win the match, or just hang on for the draw? It's upto you.On the whole, a marked improvement. Enough quick arcade action at the lower levels for the casual fan of the sport or if you're a die hard fan like myself, up the level, go into test match and see if you can reverse Englands dismal performance so far in the ashes this year!!!

Cricket 07 another one of those alright cricket games. I WANT TO SEE SOMETHING AMAZING. but for now i have to do with this.the gameplay is good but still to easy.On cricket 2002 it was difficult and it was a challenge to even get to 100. But on this i can get 500 easily on 5 star. You can just slog when the fielders are in and look for twos when they are out.i like the fact they have sponsors but i want to see more of them. The bowling is a good factor but for most people it is a bit boring.FlAWSthere are no proper names for other teams apart from New zealand Australia England and South africa.commentators a dull and say the same thing again and again.batsmen run far to quicklyBowlers areactually decent batsmen like Panesarthere are no domestic leagues from india new zealand or south africatwo people who look different look the same (lara and jayasuria0when you have just hit one straight up into the air and the fielder is about to catch it. you can press pause just before it reaches into his hands then unpause it and you will be not outfielders can float to the ball and pick it up!!!umpires give crazy decisionsfielders never drop catchesyou can score far too quicjly like 400 of 40 oversyou can finish a test in 2 daysbut you can grind an innings very wellso this game has some major flaws but because i love cricket i will play it till a decent cricket game comes out.also watch out for cricket lfe 08 which is said to come out in 2009 this will make every cricket lover happy

Although I Have Been Playing on this Game For Not Very Long,I Am Quite Impressed and Am Looking Forward to Getting This For Proper Full Time Gameplay at Christmas(As I Have Rented It).The New Century Stick is A Great Improvement on the Batting Concept of the Cricket Series,Although it is Hard to Get Used to At First,Playing A Simple Quick Easy Game or Some Good Solid Net Practice With A Decent Player Should Solve the Problem in No Time. The New System Gives You A Great Variety of Shots To Play All Around The Wicket with You Been Able To Pierce the Field in ODIs With a Greater Ease than the Other Games. But There is a Slight Problem with the System; As a Ball is Bowled,EA have Sacked the BATSMENCONFIDENCE system from Cricket 2005,which Allows You To Go Over the Top With Great Ease,Which is Great in Something Like a 20/20 game but Takes out the Realism of A Test Match,I Personally Like to Build an Inninings and Play a Ball on its Merits which I Think Brings out Great Realism in the Game. But With A Bit of Will Power That Can Be Sorted Aswell,Its Your Choice.I am Also Pleased To Report That The Bowling Part of the Game has Improved Aswell,With It Easier To Get Edges etc.A Good Inswinger to a Left Hander,Full and Just Outside the Off Stump is a Good Tactic To Employ. Overall A Good Game and A Very Good Buy.Certainly Recommended!

I haven't enjoyed a cricket game since I was beaten by a pal at Graham Gooch cricket on the Amiga in the mid-90s (afterwhich I snapped the disk in rage), so when I received this as a gift I was dubious as to its merits. However, I quickly found it to be the single most fun game I've ever played on ANY machine and it's so devilishly addicted I genuinelly want to play it constantly. It's very intuitive to play and the use of the analogue sticks to direct your shots and decide to play off the front or back foot becomes second nature in no time.Play a 10-over match on two-star setting and you'll be crashing 20-30 off an over with practice, but if you up the difficulty to four or five stars it really becomes a test,so purists will love nudging and nurdling for seven hours to get their half century in five-day tests. It can get repetitive, especially in easy mode when you learn to bash every shot for six, and bowling can be desperately dull when you're struggling to take wickets, but for a quick 45 mins of action, a 10-over game takes some beating and if you play it with friends it ellicites a sense of competition I've not experienced since my teen days.As Mark Nichols says - very often - during the in game commentary, as far as cricket goes, this game is 'BRILLIANT - you couldn't imagine anything better.'

Based on the difficulty of Cricket 2005 with the bowling and batting I was a little hesitant to buy this. However having mastered BLIC a while back I decided to give this one a go.Cricket 07 is a definite improvement. The controls using the stick buttons make batting very playable and the game a lot more 'arcade' in action on the 3 lower levels. The ability to bat behind the batsman certainly gives a 'stick cricket' feel to aspects of the game. It is also a little too easy to hit a six.The bowling is more user friendly although it is too easy to get batsmen out playing the hook shot through re-enacting 'body-line' at its best. Also it is a shame that you cannot use reverse swing in more detail on the game. The umpires are inconsistent however calling wide when a ball does not go wide and basically allowing you to throat and head ball opposing batsmen with impunity at times.Overall the game is great fun, especially with the improved graphics and better batting. It will be ideal for boozy nights in with the mates while waiting for the Ashes to start at midnight.

I am 42 years old. I do not play PS2 games. I shout at my kids when they won't turn the damn things off, but......but......I LOVE THIS GAME !!!Every waking moment is spent playing or thinking about playing. I love the way you can hit it, the runs, the bowling, the fielding. I always play as South Africa, losing as England hurts too much, and I love the options for moving the players around in the batting order. I love the fact you can get the lower end boys to tonk it and get 100 for the ninth wicket. This game is wonderful. The commentary sync is rubbish, but apart from that, you are looking at game play heaven. Don't buy it !!! Life's too short. Don't get sucked in. Look at me !!I was once like you......Fer pete's sake Herschell, hit the damn thing.PS - I put this review up on 19th Jan of 2007. Today is 20th June 2007. I am still playing the thing obsessively. I am now up to level five - the highest you can go - and the game is even more challenging and interesting. It's like real cricket. Just brilliant. Absolutely brilliant

this game is one any cricket fan should have, especially given the price tag. u can play as ur country in tournaments such as the World Cup, or play as England or the Aussies in either the 2005 or 2007 Ashes series, both of which are great fun. u can also do two player and either play with or against a friend, this is great when u are playing in custom test series or just having a knock around in a limited overs fixture. the gameplay is good, often challenging if set to a high enough difficulty. the fielding can either be annoyingly good or bad, one thing is tht they will never drop catches. the umpires often make ridiculous calls (especially involving LBW's)but this is a very good game anddefinately worth adding to your basket!

This game has the ability to make you not know what happens next. I will show some good and bad points about Cricket 07Good Points:Your allowed to pick your players from the squad unlike in Brian Lara 05 you have players they pick all the time.Say you play a lofted straight drive, sometimes it goes for 4,6 or CAUGHT!Bad Points:All the fast bowlers have exactly the same bowling action everytime! If you do 'Autoplay' say England v Australia, Australia are rated better so no matter how good the pitch is, England will get e.g. 264 whilst Australia will get e.g. 648-6 dec.But it is a good buy though for cricket fans. It's the Pro Evolution Soccer of Cricket.

3.1.2007

Brilliant game...superb graphic, realistic feel. Much better then Brian Lara 2005 for anyone who knows anything about cricket. New control systam works well, although it is sometimes hard to remeber all of the shots! Another thing I love is that I have now been playing the game for about a week, and I'm still discovering new shots. For example, I hit a reverse sweep for six yesterday!Admittedly, it was an o small ground (Taunton). There are some minor issues-fielding looks poor and all of the throws are alwaysa over the top of the bails, although this is a problem encountered in every crickiet game.Even so, buy it!!
