This is a very decent stab at a cricket game compared to many attempts in the past.Sadly though in my view the cons outweigh the pros which is why i have rated it at 3 stars because its worth playing but not something thats going to keep you glued to your seat playing hours on end because it can get very frustrating. I have to disagree with M.Dommett's review in that this game is not at all suited to test matches because like Ashes Cricket 09 and International Cricket the computer is very aggressive and this game would need alot of editing to make it suitable for test cricket. It works fine if you want a 10 or 20 over match but it does not perform well in the 50 over format which is why i thinkit is unsuitable for test matches.Batting : The batting experience i would give 3/5 because it is a decent experience and not very ball and simply be slogged effectively to rack up huge scores with little threat and it takes time to be able to hit your first boundary. My main issue with the batting is the placement system which means a shot will most often go in very set positions meaning that is easy for the computer to block is it very hard to pierce the field early on and needs the best of batsman to be able to hit it through the field along the ground meaning that the player will often have to hit up and over. This system also means that you cannot easily hit fours past fielders on the boundary because you cannot hit it between them and lofted shots will no go over them so you have to use the slog option which you need to hit perfectly to get a six. This makes batting outside the powerplay often dull because you can only hit sixes and thats it you time it perfectly. Runs are easy to come by though with singles and twos able to be taken almost every ball there is ot a delivery other than the special deliveries than will cause you many issues.Bowling: The bowling experience would also be given 2/5 and the main reason for this is the computer's batting style which never varies off full on agression, it will repeatedly just try and hit over the top even when your field is set deep. This is ridiculous as they can hit 15 runs an over off good bowling in the powerplays and yet then lose all their remaining wickets within a few overs when they hit it straight down fielders throats because their placement does not allow them to pierce gaps on the boundaries. The shot selection can look like a joke with a leg stump yorker being carved over cover when there is no room to play such a shot but the batman can freely move during the run-up of the bowler to be in the correct position to hit such the shot they want. In 20 over games which is the best format for the game you can very easily bowl a side out for 20-50 runs if you set your field manually to cover deep cover, deep midwicket and a very straight deep fielder which isnt hard to beat as off pace bowlers in particular these positions will be targeted regardless whether there is a fielder. Also the regular bouncer is awful as it always 100% of the time hooked for 4 or 6 perfectly timed and more often it is a 6 which makes a deep fine leg only useful for leg glances. Yorkers are also nearly worthless as they can be hit for runs with ease and are hardly ever blocked. Bowling overall is very easy to get wickets quickly but anything other than caught on the boundary should be considered a triumph. The special delivery ideas has got to be the worst idea the game has concieved as for bowling when used well it is almost a guaranteed wicket with the player lining up the exact opposite and then using the special delivery in the last strides of the bowlers run up. For example: for a 'toe crusher' e.g yorker just line up a bouncer then hit the special delivery button and the computer batsman will try to hook a yorker. Only if you do this way to early will the batman adjust. When batting the deliveries can almost be unplayable and the only sensible thing to do is block them.To sum up this is not a game a true cricket fan will thoroughly enjoy as the weaknesses are so weak they ruin the game.

I bought Cricket Revolution after watching England beat the Aussies in the ashes (hooray!), I was itching to play a cricket game, but unfortunately on the PC there's not many up to date ones to choose from.It was cheap and looked promising so I gave it a go. My overall impression of it though was that it just felt unfinished. It does have promise, there's a big amount of shot selection for the batsman and the animation is okay. The overall graphics though look very dated and there's not really that many game modes. There are no test matches, just your bog standard exhibitions or cup tournament. The bowling is also a bit lacking in my opinion, it uses the "wobbly target" style, where you have to try and get the oval target in the place you want it, which was a little difficult using a keyboard. There are also no real player names, so you need to download a patch if you want them.I was hoping to play this game online too, but there seems to be little to nobody actually playing it, so if you're looking for an online match at any time of the day then you might be in for a bit of a wait.It showed promise, but ultimately feels unfinished and therefore will probably leave you bored after a couple of days of playing it. I recommend Ashes Cricket '09 instead, which can be picked up for the same price or cheaper.

I bought this game pre-owned and it turns out that it requires Steam to play. Not only that, there's nothing on the game DVD cover which tells me that this game requires Steam and being a pre-owned version, the code that came with it has already been activated..
