This game is a million times better than 2004. First of all the graphics are more realistic and the gameplay is much more smoother.(Especially the fielders).I had two problems with 2004. First, it was too easy. You could easily hit 6 sixes in one over and once the novelty wore off it became boring. Secondly, it had annoying flaws, such as being bowled by yorkers when i was pressing a defensive shot and my batsman didn't move!So far i have found no batting glitches in 2005. Many have complained that the batting is hard and impossible, i disagree. It's more realistic. No longer can you start your innings by blasting a 9 ball fifty. You have to be patient. Hit the singles and punish the bad bowling.Gradually your confidence grows. The higher your batsmans confidence the better he times the ball and instead of lobbing it up to the fielders you clear the ropes. Depending on how many overs you play in a game also affects how quickly a batmans confidence grows. If you blast a boundary in a 10 over match your confidence shoots up, sometimes filling up three quarters of the confidence meter. But in a test match, blasting a boundary will only get you one bar on the confidence meter. Therefore, once you get full confidence with a batsman you can start carving up the bowling attack.I have no problems with the bowling. I like the change from 2004. Now there's a menu showing what type of deliveries you can bowl with your selected bowler and what button to select before he bowls. If you bowl the right length you will take wickets with any type of bowler. If you get it wrong unfortunately you get punished. This is annoying. Especially when you are a fraction short or a fraction full to a new batsman and he wallops it for six. It seems the A.I. have their own rules. Most options are still the same from 2004. But 2005 now has backround music. But the commentary is near enough identical from 2004, except a few new added bits. But it's still rubbish. 'That was the first boundary of the day' says Richie when i only scored a single and they don't include extras when talking about partnerships. But thats being fickle. All in all this is the best cricket game available. I like the batting, bowling, gameplay and graphics. If you're not into cricket then this isn't a game for you. This is not like Tony Hawks, it isn't easy. But with a bit of practise and patient all cricket fans will enjoy it.

You have a choice between 2 Cricket Games at the moment.EA 2005 Cricket (Freddy on the cover)or Brian Lara Cricket (You won't be suprised with who is on the cover)Depending on why you want the game depends on which one you should buy.If you want a game to play with your mates then buy Brian Lara, The game play is easier and begginers can pick it up within minutes, where as EA Cricket takes time and practice to learn how to bat properly.Personnaly I like a challenge when I play a new game, therefore EA Cricket is my prefered game, It also has the proper names of players and the proper voice of cricket (Richie Benaud).Brian Lara has it's upsides too, as I have mentioned the game play is easier and seems engineered for fun.The fielding is more realistic but graphics are not as good.If your a keen Cricketer like me you'll buy both and play both.Brian Lara comes out when the lads come round or if I fancy smacking the ball around and have a bit of Cricketing fun.If I am wanting a tactical game and time to kill I play EA Cricket, Spend my time at the crease, build an innings or when I bowl plug away and wait for a break through. There's no point in arguing and saying which game is better than the other as long as you get to play cricket and beat the Aussies do you really care which game you own???

This game is the one for you if you are looking for an official game with official licensing. However, the game features a batsman confidence bar, and as this goes up, the less accurate your timing needs to be. But this bar takes a long time to go up when batting conservatively in a test match. And even when it is at the top, it is still hard to hit over the fielders. However, once you get used to the game it becomes easier, for example i declared with Justin Langer on 300 not out. This game features rain, which adds to the realism, but this mucks up the number of overs. For example, if 3 balls have been bowled in that over and it begins to rain, when it stops, that bowler bowls another full over and so 9 balls have been bowled, puting one team at a clear disadvantage in a one day match. The create a player is the same as in Fifa and Rugby 05, but has been fine tned a little. You can set the bowling type, the batting hand, the fielding position, and the strength of te batsman. You can also choose from around 150 bats for your batsman, although there is no licensing here, unlike Brian Lara 05.Overall this is a good game, but if I were you, I'd go for Brian Lara 05 as it is a much better, more involved and realistic game.Thankyou for reading, I hope this has been helpful to you.

Like the rest of the country, i too have been caught up in ashes fever, and purchased this game as a result having never played cricket on a console before. People complain about how difficult it is, and that true, the game is very difficult to master, but then again so is REAL cricket. People should remember that the game is designed to be realistic and not an arcade game. A 50 overs match can easily take up 2-3 hours of your time, and as for a 4 day test, well, that'll be 4 days then! The temptation is to start trying to hit everything for six after about 30 minutes of play just to try and pile on the runs, the games end's quickly becuase all you batsmen are out. (once again just like real cricket). An excellent game, after some considerable practice, can now bowl most teams out for between 50-100 runs in a limited overs match. The downside is the batsmans confidence is slow at improving and can be destroyed by being hit by the ball, or missing a shot.I haven't played brian lara but from what people say, it is a lot easier, and therefore less realistic.EA Cricket 2005 a must buy for die hard cricket fans.

i have already wrote a review for this game and went on slagging it off for 3 or 4 paragraphs but i can now tell you that with practice and perservering i have become quite good. there are a few niggles still though but nothing major but the most annoying thing still is the a.i being able to smash a six off the first ball of a twenty20 game which of course me and everyone else cant do though but also the a.i confidence goes up even if they leave or block but not the same for me though. Oh well.. when you work out how and where to bowl certain deliveries you start to master it i.e i bowled out the W.I for 39 the other day on medium which i thought was a good effort.Im sure most would of found to of mastered the bowling but are still are a bit sketchy with the bat like me even though my highest score is 170 with tresco anyway gud luk peeps and Kev Pietersen for the ashes come on england wooooooooooooooooooo!

Cricket 2005 is not a perfect game - hence only 4 stars. However it is better than Cricket 2004 (far too easy) and to compare it to Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 would be like comparing Shakespeare (great but can get boring for non-die-hard fans) to J.K.Rowling (heavily praised but actually complete trollope). Cricket 2005 is not the perfect cricket game, but it is the best cricket game ever created. It's not as easy as the previous EA titles so if you get bored easily don't bother buying it. However if you are a true cricket fan and can put up with the superman fielding then it is a great game. It takes a while to build an innings in this game, but hey, it's cricket. In conclusion - don't get this if you aren't a cricket fan and just want a slog, but for patient cricket fans with an accurate sense of timing will enjoy this game. Whatever you do don't get Brian Lara International Cricket.

I just don't see what the problem is most people have with this game. The bowling is better than Brian Lara because you have a much wider option and variety of bowls (including a special bowl which you unlock if you have taken a wicket). The batting fine, yes maybe sometimes you cannot get it past in in-field but if you just give it patients then you slowly master how to play good shot and find gaps in the field. Timing is very important when batting, once you get that it's brilliant. This game has the great option of being able to play 20twenty cricket which is great fun when you get into it. Although there are some flaws, e.g. the fielding is a bit quick and there is quite a lot of difference when a batter has low/high confidence. Also graphics have been highly improved and so has gameplay e.g. it is easier to hit a four off Strauss than someone like Harmison.I would give this game 8/10

As EA want to expand their dominance of sports games, a cricket series was enevitable. Their are some real pluses about this game, and with some competion from Brian Lara Cricket there needs to be.This is basically the same argument as sports fans have as 2 which football game the think is better. And there are reasons to hate and love both games. Cricket 2005 has brilliant graphics, international and county licences and super real gameplay. So real that you could be bowling 4 hours against the computer with very little rewards.Whereas, in Brain Lara the balance between batting and bowling is greatly reduced. You can get very realistic and fun gameplay. But you dont get licences and player likeness.I prefer this game.It has good comentary, excellent player likeness and decent gameplay. But i dont want you 2 think that Brian Lara is a bad game, it isnt just not as good as Cricket 2005

What a game!!!!This is a massive improvement on 2004 and is a must have for any self respecting gaming cricket fan. Unlike many other cricket games the batting offers a challenge. You may think this is bad but it certainly isn't, as I find scoring around 20 an over really boring, and the batting now requires you to build an innings. The bowling has also become a lot easier and more exciting, because, let's face it, no-one really enjoys bowling, but now trying to get that special ball is a challenge. The fielding has improved a bit, but not as much as the other features. The fielders are just a little quick to get to the ball/catches and rarely drop, which is annoying. All in all though,EA have created a good balance of batting and bowling, forcing you to concentrate alot more and really feel like you are playing a real match!

let me start by saying that cricket 2005 is much better than brian lara cricket at least in terms of reality and overall game features (full county seasons, etc). i agree with the displeased customers in that the batting is a bit silly and unrealistic in that you can come up the crease with freddy flintoff and the ball will just trickle off the bat. i understand timing and batter confidence are key, but if a big hitter connects, the ball will at least get past the bowler. and i don't know about anyone else but i can't hit the stumps with fast bowlers; spinners no problem but it seems fast bowlers can't blow out the stumps..which is one of the best things to see and do in cricket. overall though,a good cricket sim and a lot better than lara cricket imo

Batting is more realistic and harder than previous ea games. Playing shots early on will cause alot of edges but playing the old ball is much easier and gives you the chance to enjoy the game. Bowling is rewarding in early overs on green/damp pitches but but can get boring on good batting pitches - thank god for autoplay. Teams are pretty up-to-date with the option of selecting any county player. There are some faults however - Mark Butcher's in the default team, the county season option is a waste of space and wicket keepers are all Geriant Jones standard when it comes to stumpings. Otherwise its a decent game to have which can be improved slightly.

1.8.2005

This game has been given many poor reviews, which i feel are unfair, bowling is realistic with a range of different deliveries for each bowler, batting has got a reputation of being impossible on this game but i havn't found this a problem and each shot is realistically recreated and runs are easy to score. Although commentary may be a slight let down, it is made up for in the sheer number of options, including a large range of tournaments including 20 20, and a full county season as well as many others, the database of players is incredible and the game on the whole is a joy to play.

4.7.2005

....you will LOVE cricket 2005. It offers plenty of sides from all the international teams including lesser nations to all english counties and australian state sides. It offers the new 20twenty format and season modes. Although batting is difficult at first it is satisfying once you master it. Bowling is a little easier and now offers special balls and a good mixture. The only flaws are perhaps the lack of one day series' but a welcome addition is the ability to edit squads so that they can remain up to date when cricket 2006 is released!

22.1.2006

Well I tried Brian Lara first. Enjoyed the game and the arcade style but after a bit there was no challenge there. So decided to try out EA Criket 2005.On face value the graphics are better. So is the shot selection and bowling. The runs are harder to get and so are the wickets. Innings need to be built and slogging is a one way ticket out of the game (unless you are playing as Freddy or Pieterson). The game can be annoying as it is easy to get yourself out. However you seem to keep coming back to it and enjoying the challenge.

This is a tough game - very tough - but that makes it better than many previous cricket games. But after 2 days of playing 113/1 against Austrailia as England in a morning is pretty good. There are many extra things that make the game very good1. You now know what the conditions are before you pick your team2. Bowling has extra options3. Batting - while hard is realistic. You have to judge line and length carefully and watch for the inbetween lengthSo it is tough - but work on it - but I can't wait for Lara to come out!!
