I really enjoy this game as a driving challenge when on full race distance and hard setting (I don't do the qualifying so I have to fight my way through the pack) but it does have some major flaws. The biggest is the damage setting combined with the AI. To my mind if the damage protection is turned off then that is what you should get. However, you can still bang wheels or run into the back of other cars, for a period at least, before any damage actually occurs. This plays into the AI of the other cars as they will turn into you as they almost robotically followed the racing line they want. Come on - Schumacher, Button, Webber and Co give way to passing cars when there is no way of defending their position, they don't just drive into the passing car (well not always) as they know it will damage their car. This is the main area that needs to be addressed. Make the damage instant and realistic for all cars with the AI to match and you've got a classic on the go. The other bug for me is the restricted acceleration for corner cutting. The setting for rules and flags should be on when it says so. Cutting corners or chicanes should be a drive-through penalty as is cutting the white line when exiting the pits.On the up side the graphics are good as is the sound and feedback. Commentary from the TV is good but can become a bit repetitive on longer distances, Pit Lane commentary has a feel to it where you are encouraged to go faster. The playability is good as there are a number of points to achieve and the race options allow for numerous changes for the races. Wet racing is impressive in graphics but virtually impossible to master a setup and impossible to see a bloody thing when following another car on heavy rain setting (so at least that bits realistic).Changes are needed for F1 06 but the continued improvement gives me hope of one day having the ultimate, accurate F1 racing game.

at current hard for me is a bit of an impossibillity. It took me an hour of trial and error to realise this and I decided for now to go for medium (don't hate me). Still even on medium it took me a while to get a drive in career because of rampant oversteer. This game is as hard as we all wanted it to be. The damage model works brilliantly and you can easily cause damage to other cars (I knocked Albers' tyre off and he was out) It will take some getting used to for me but I am sure that I will. I love this game already, I have no faults except for maybe the formation laps are a bit constrained. I love the touch in career where you test the car for the team on the friday test session, that is amazing.I am happy to have this game for a year and I know it will take me that long to be good at it. People have been asking about the commentary, it sounds a bit too disjointed and so I do what I always do and turned it off. I like the pit radio though! This games problem was one started in last seasons game but which has for some bizarre reason been made worse this year. Last year they introduced time penalties if you ran wide. This year some of the penalties are up to 14secs long. Sure this year it can be turned off but it can't in the games main attraction of the career mode. This is very very frustrating as you can be punted off by the amazingly aggressive AI and get a penalty for going off the track along with the usual fact you are slow for going off. This means I can only give the game 3 stars for actual enjoyment but as a racing game it is brilliant and will keep even the best fan struggling to win on hard for quite some time yet.If you know how to turn penalties off in career please please tell me

My first Formula 1 game, F1 '04, was a resounding success story in my world. It was fun, had a great sense of speed and contained all of the F1 glamour that you'd expect. Then I bought F1 '05. This game, in comparison to it's predecessor, was the bee's knees. On the 2004 game, the cars, to be honest, felt a little 'loose' under heavy braking and turning. The '05 game on the other hand, is just staggering! You really need to concentrate hard on a lap...and that's just on medium mode! My personal favourite track on the game is Sepang, the home of the Malaysian Grand Prix. The gradient of the track is correct, it flows and there are two mega-fast straights, making this a low-downforce circuit.Anyway, many people criticise the game for being way too easy (easy) or way too hard (medium and hard) but I am not one of those people. Frankly, if you use the practice sessions wisely and find a decent set-up, it isn't too difficult. Personally, I'd recommend using the instant race option to get used to the game. After that, you should try the simulation feature and then go for World Championship glory in the exciting career mode that will have you glued to your TV for hours on end.(to start your career relatively successfully, go with Red Bull Racing, it's the best of the starting teams) So if you want a fast, furious game, buy this one: it's as close as you'll get to driving a real F1 car!

I am a massive F1 fan and have bought all the f1 games since f1 on PS1 (even the rubbish F1'99 on PS!) and this is a decent game. It is instantly playable, and if you have bought any of the other PS2 incarnations of the series you will see a definate marked improvement. The new track (Istanbul) is fantastic fun, and many of the niggles of the previous games are gone. Career mode is improved, however there is still no inter-team driver changing so if you become the no 1 Ferrari Driver they kick out Schumi (Yeah Right) and not Rubens, and no A1 driver swaps occur between teams. Other problems include the damage being very limited and if anything, the game is too easy, even on hard with no atificial assists such as abs or auto gears. I got the 600 points necessary to unlock all the helmets in the game ion 60 races, that included wins in Red Bulls, Toyotas and to hinder myself Minardis! Despite this though I think that this is a good f1 game, with 2 player races being able to use the entire field, online capability, and as stated earlier many of the previous games' niggles removed, it is the best console F1 sim out there. I look forward to 06 which should be out soon as hopefully it will be yet another improvement.

What a wonderful game! Wonderful graphics, very realistic conditions! You can actually see everything seemingly "vibrating" around you at 150mph as the driver would see things making it harder to concentrate and put in the perfect lap! The tuning aspect has been broadened for the more experienced gamers, and there are numerous driving aids and tips for beginers. The new circuit at Istanbul is now available to race on, and what a joy it is to drive there! The most exhilirating parts of the anti-clockwise circuit are the 4 left handers, one after the other, absolutely full throttle! And you can now race in a Red Bull along side David Coulthard! You can also now play head to head against a live opponent in the online mode,so you wount find yourself racing against a ghost car anymore. The only bad thing about this game is the fact that the damage feature has been completly removed which means you will be even more disgusted when you run into the back of a Ferrari and find that neither car is damaged or defected. Apart from that slight niggle, this game is certainly worth buying. Go on and help yourself to pole position!

Having owned this game for a mere 12 hours, I am just beginning to realise how godd it actually is. I haven't bought an F1 game since F1 2001, this was mainly because I was content with it, and the newer games that followed seemed to be getting ever more dismal. However, persuaded by a number of good reviews on Amazon, I purchased it, an dhave been playing two player with my friend since this morning. At first I didn't seem overly impressed, the graphics weren't much sharper than the 2001 version, and it was only the head to head racing that kept me going back for more. I was beginning to wonder where all these new 'zooming' effects were, and what was so good about the handling.Having finally been able to play by myself, I can now say with all confidence that the game doesn't dissapoint. If you have a mere interest with F1, and you liked games such as Burnout 3, this is the game for you. I also enjoyed a similar sense of achivement as in Burnout because completing certain challenges unlocks classic cars for you to use. Fantastic! Go out and buy now!

HiFirst Of all this game is excellent, the graphics are superb and the commentry is also a nice touch also the radio from your team is very good and adds that extra touch of realism. Many Views of the Model are created from being in the drivers seat to having a whole view of the car from behind. As i said you have to be willing to put alot of time aside for this game its not just ill do a championship in half an hour. If you want to get you moneys worth do the full seventy laps. After looking for screenshots over the internet i could find quite a few but none of them give this product justice. Now the problems i can only really think of one after a while of going round the track and you go andlook in the mirror your eyes will be very bloodshot.Overall this is a top game really has everything:Graphics 9Graphics Of Drivers 5Car Graphics 10Fun 8Overall 9Trust me this game is excellent and well worth the asking price, but dont buy it if your not serious.

Leaving aside the car graphics (which i found worse than f1 04 but this is subjective), the game as a whole is very easy! I m one of the people who have completed the f1 04 and when i bought the f1 05 i was hoping of something much better. I started the career mode in medium difficulty, 20% race distance, skaled usage of tyres and fuel and after winning all races with red bull until turkey, when i went to BAR and found out i was 6 whole seconds faster than anyone per lap! Then, i restarted the career mode in hard and with Jordan this time i ve still won all races until now. Harder than before, but the result is the same. I wonder how fast i ll be when i move to Ferrari. Anyway, this makes me not really wanting to play the game as it gets a bit boring. On the other hand, at f1 04 it was much more difficult to win a race, even with Ferrari! I hope this issue will be fixed at F1 06.

I was a bit dissapointed with f1 04 but when i got f1 05 it was much better. The new career mode is a lot better with different difficulty settings and you can also choose the race length which i prefer because i like playing the full race distance. The graphics are very good and so is the handling because it is very realistic. The motion blur is so good that you think you are really going that fast. The damage is good because the front spoiler wobbles before it comes off and you can get a puncture as well. The bad point about damage is that you really have to bash the car to damage it, so its not quite as fragile as you may expect.Overall this is probably the greatest f1 game ever on ps2 and icant stop playing it!!

Not a bad game, morish but not difficult to master, easy mode will suit people who have never owned an F1 game, however the hard mode is more suited to people who have mastered the previous version. Worth a buy but wait for the new 06 version, i hope the graphics and game play improve significantly.

5.7.2005

With the new consols on the horizon this game had to be good, and it is, very good. Motion blur is much better than i can describe to you. And the game play and AI are 100% better than 04. If you liked 04 this will blow you away. This years "Must buy" game!

4.7.2005

This has surely got to be the best F1 game ever. The damage is also now realistic: if you hit a wall, your tyre will shred but not come off and the front wing will wobble before it falls off.The graphics could even challenge those of GT4.

30.6.2005

This is the title people have been waiting for it has everything in it. Alot has been taken from former f1 games like the interactive pitstop which should make it a much more realistic gameF1 rules

29.7.2005
