After playing many of the F1 games available for the second generation consoles and the PC, F1-2004 for the PS2 is by far the best overall "experience" so far, and for one main reason - the "Career" mode. While you have the normal options of Arcade, Simulation and TimeTrial modes (where you can make up whatever races and/or weekends you like), the Career mode is a whole different concept. In career mode you have to make your way up through the ranks from test driver to a race seat, and then negotiate contracts, and of course do well in the races. Do well and the big teams will come knocking - do badly for long enough and even Minardi might fire you.The cars of the various teams perform pretty much as you expect, but the makers of the game have kept them sufficiently close that you really can make the difference with a bad car once you get good at the game. The temptation to beat Schumacher around Spa in a lesser car is immense :)The graphics are very good - fantastic tarmac, trackside scenery, shiny cars, clouds of brake dust and sand, and of course clumps of grass when you lose it. The sound is also very good - although not immediately outstanding. You hear a lot of ambient sounds around the track such as wind, and the PA system from the grandstands floating across the field...Gameplay is probably the most important thing in a F1 game, and it doesn't disappoint here. The car setup can be changed right down to things like bump damping and wheel camber - and it all makes pretty obvious differences to the "feel".While racing, the game (thankfully) isn't a total simulation - you can get away with a fair amount of wheel-banging before anything breaks or gets ripped off. In my opinion this is a good thing. So there you have it - the best F1 game on the PS2, and probably one of the best games full stop.

So i thought id give my own honest opinion about the improved AI as i have found some issues that almost put me off the game.First ill start by saying i love this game, physics, Sound, and gameplay! Recommend pumping up your sound for those gear shifts!Anyway, for those of you who want a really good AI challenge, dont be too suprised if all of sudden you're 4 seconds ahead of the next driver and suddenly that goes to 30 seconds .. i had this happen to me and decided to watch the replays and see what was going on ... for some reason AI driver xx decides to come to a complete halt (randomly during the race) on the main straight (hopefully not all tracks, i have noticed this on 2 so far)and hence causes a pile up and some retirements! ive also noticed that coming to lap a backmarker on a main straight and all of a sudden have 6 cars in front of me and put me out the race!Otherwise if they arent being stupid, semi pro AI is a good challenge, and im having a really good time playing this game.Besides that issue i have found no flaws with the game ..i can feel those G's round corners and the excitement of taking a pitstop, graphic engine is very nice and smooth. so my review is over and i cant wait to finish the season kicking schummi off the no.1 spot!

I would give this game 4 1/2 out of 5 but it won't allow this. This game is amazing, the graphics, the sound and all that. But there are a couple of things that disappointed me. When people pit, every one stops on the track (so don't scratch your nose on the home straight because you will crash into some loser who stopped) and the damage is crap. Sure, others now get damaged, but when you go at 215 mph down the home straight and then come off and crash etc., you might be lucky to lose you wheel! You fronnt wing just comes off not leaving any other mark on the car. Also, in the pits, the pit crew don't where gloves!!! That fustrates me so much and when the other cars pit,the invisible pit crew come out - where the hell are they! Furthermore, you see it all the time - monaco is a great example. You watch the race, and at the Loews hair pin, the drivers turn the steering wheel 270 degrees but no, not in the game, they can only manage to turn the wheel 45 degrees. And as for the career mode, how difficult did they want it!!! But apart from that, the game is great - I would only buy this game if you like formula 1, so if you don't like the game, you keep as a collectors item.

This game has plenty of options from really simple first-timer driving (novice) to the professional option. You can select further options like fuel, tyres, damage, rules, flags etc. to play more realistically. There was one thing that I found annoying to begin with (apart from the REALLY annoying American 'TV' commentary) and that was having to use the joystick controller to steer the car. I got used to this after about an hours play though. I have since upgraded to using a Fanatec Speedster 3 steering wheel. This game is great if you want an authentic feel to an F1 game.

Fantastic, IncredibleThe Graphics are superbYou have to be good at this (so ignore all the reviews about bumping into other cars) i have only ever managed to get 4th in championship in a Ferrari. it is very difficult (on career mode it can be made easy about a lap on a minardi every six) -but that is why it is called a simulation-it is REALISTIC! u need to learn lines of other drivers (they differ) and get all braking and acceleration points perfect. U can unlock all the old Lotus and Renualt its excellent. U can do a 5 year career mode.U should buy this

Being the biggest BAR fan and F1 nut I had to buy this game. I noticed when buying this that it had a career mode, this makes the game for me. You start off as a lowley test driver and you have to make your mark by driving laps of various circuits at break neck speed. This is really challenging as you have to pull off perfect laps, you can't afford to mess up or the only people who will take you on will be Minardi and their car just wont win you races! All in all this is the best version they have bought out, well done Studio Liverpool!

This game is the current best Formula One simulator on the playstation 2. You can choose any car and track in the formula one calendar. I's amazing. The game features a 10 year career mode and the usual simulation and arcade mode. The addition of netwrok play and and extensive career mode make this a worthy purchase, although if you have Formula One 2003 you may wish to stick and not twist!

formula 1 2003 pure lush, it was absoulutelly amazing. Every aspect of the game challenges you to the full, and like in real life if you make one mistake you are a gonner. I love it, and now the 2004 version looks set to top it, i really cant wait, i makes me quiver with excitement, hurry up days fly by.

f1 2003 was not a very good game with some of the driving if you hit the back wing the front wing came off but hopefully in f1 2004 it will all change with the greatest drivers with the real realism jenson button will hopefully win a couple of races on the game and beat michael schumacher
