This game is still the best console F1 game about even all these months after its release. As always, everything is there as it is in real life, the cars, opponents and tracks are easy enough to pick up and race but hard enough to beat 100% of the time. Its the most realistic of the Sony F1 games yet and is always fun to play, make no mistake about it. Games like F1 Career Challenge that seem to boast so much more still cant match it. But it still has those major flaws that anger fans of the sport itself. hopefully, the guys making F1 2005 as we speak will read this and take note-1/ The tracks. Many tracks have had changes made to them in 2003 such as France and Hungary. The French track change was awful and silly and the hungary change whilst well done still makes it imposible to qualify on pole if you use skip to player mode. All the cars seem to be pre set as using the old hungary track. This is lazyness. Also Austria and Monacos changes were ignored completly, they have no excuses for these at all as the races took place well before the release.2/ Crashing and all that comes with it. The damage, although ok is still very plain. Im fed up of hitting a car in the rear only for his FRONT wing to come off instead of his rear wing these are bad niggles. In those rare occasions where the rear wing does come off, you are out, when you could easily pit for a new one like real life. There should be other smaller pieces of dembris that come off. In any open wheel racing series if you touch someones tryes in a cog motion you go airborne. this happens everywhere, exect this game! In full sim mode you should be out if you are upside down or stuck in a tyre wall. Also, if you are onboard why does it always switch to the exterior view if you get airborne? this is also annoying, not to mention that there seems to be a big black UFO over the sky.3/ pitstops. this may be nitpicking as the pitstops are extremly well designed but in real life everything is done at the same time in a pitstop. any time I pit, first they fuel, then they change a wing, then they change tyres! its awfully slow considering real life.4/ More nitpicking but some things we need are comentary, there is none even though its advertised. There should be, even though F1's Bosses may object, a create a driver mode, or even create a team. also making up your own helmet design would be nice. Even if you can only change the name! Another thing missing was the actual position listings during the race. if i want to know who is where i have to pause the game and look at a replay to see who is leading or who is 7th etc etc. The last thing the game needs is better rewards. I have won everything, but 'everything' is just some photographs and a few pictures of imaginary trophies. There should be something like a backwards race track mode or like before, a Safety Car race! that brings me to my last point. Where is the safety car? It was in the old games, why not here?Still a great game though!

Buying this game was a bit of a tough call after reading some of the reviews on this website. On the whole, people were hailing it a masterpiece - a racing sim so good that it really feels like you're controlling the real thing through your TV. Yet a few slammed it as a poor game, and these little doubts plagued my mind right until I put the CD in my shiny new silver PS2. And what a game! The cynics seem wrong in my view. You can get into the action straight away, and from the moment your car leaves the pits, you're taken aback with the stunning graphics. As a PS2 newbie, I guess they must have seemed doubly impressive. The cars are beautifully rendered. The track shines it's that well created, and there's NO pop-up!I began my Formula One 2003 career with a "quick race" at Monza - I'll warn you now, if you're a newcomer to console F1 games, expect to lose! I expected more, and after three nasty encounters with the barriers, I realised just how bad a 'racer' I really am. However with traction control and practice, you slowly get to the same level as the AI opponents. The game itself runs at a spectacularly smooth framerate, and there's little slow-down in multi-player or at the starting grid. Wet racing looks wonderful, but the spray could be a little refined. owever, cockpit cameras get a good spattering of water droplets, a neat little touch! The game is split into one player and multiplayer modes, and each of these into arcade and simulation. Arcade is relatively straightforward - race, and enjoy yourself. Sim is a little tougher... hook one wheel on the grass and you'll spin. Hit a rival and be prepared to lose a wheel. Make mistakes and suffer. It really is quite punishing, but that's half the fun! Practice does make perfect! Another lovely innovation alongside the many game modes available is the "Spectator" mode. Choose a weather condition, an AI skill level, a track, and the grid, and watch a 50%-length race as if it were real. Maybe a tad pointless, but good to learn the tracks and opponents. It shows off the sweet visuals too!In all, a very good game. There are three main problems I'd emphasise though:* The views, notably the Chase-type cameras, are a little poor - they're too close to the gearbox and a little low-set, but they work. Use the helmet camera if you can, I find that the best.* The learning curve is a little tough. "Easy" AI still drive you onto the grass and set blistering lap times. Choose one of the top 4 teams if you want to do a Schumi.* The controls aren't quite pick up and play. You should really use the analogue sticks for the best car control, and LEARN THE TRACKS first! But overall, a solid game packed with features and options. If you own no F1 game, buy it. If you do, consider the few little drawbacks first.4/5. A good buy.

Another F1 title hits the shelves - and searching for a momento of the British Grand Prix - it seemed worth the risk (after all, F1 2001 wasn't too bad, neither was the EA Sports F1 2001 - though there has never been an entirely satisfactory simulation of F1) as surely things could only have improved in my year away from the genre......Well...lets get the cons out of the way first......The commentary does not run with the race itself (when pit-to car radio provides a heated string of information)- so Martin Brundle and Mr Allen only feature in the 'Spectator View". The car on car collision damage is still woefully inadequate, there are no safety cars (as in earlier PS1 series),and the flag system is incomplete (surely adding a green flag after the yellow to confirm that overtaking can once again be resumed isn't too much to ask?!). The replays are very useful, but just adequate, and the tv style graphics are totally absent - such as the F1 ident, and timings - replaced by uninspiring text. I'm yet to find any personel - a few in the pits would have been great as there is so much attention to detail otherwise. The pros, however are a different story....The handling is excellent or difficult (if you want it to be) in that it is so responsive - rumble strip hopping around chicanes is not advisable any more- as the loading of the suspension means that the car can lose traction then suddenly 'bite' when driven carelessly - aquaplaning into the kitty litter (I've managed to spin 180 degrees off of the startline also!) The in-cockpit view actually relays the experience of being connected witht the car and track, right down to skewed horizon through fast turns, and a sense of being dwarfed by normal size barriers etc... and the front end lifting slightly when 'monstering the curbs' as Mr Brundle would say! With comprehensive set ups, and steering wheel (joypad) controlled traction and brake bias selection whilst racing -there is never a second of calm! The backgrounds, though not 100% authentic are awesome - much better than GT3 - and details in overhanging trees or textures on wooden starting gantries, lie of the land, not to mention the beautiful opponent cars flow, pop-up and frame-rate drop free. Adding rear wing failures - and other problems into the equation adds up to a totally immersive experience and a pleasure to drive. You won't know where that sector time was lost - but you'll keep pushing until the car steps out on you, then you'll spend the time it takes to reload the race weekend regretting such a simple mistake....trust me!

FORMULA ONE 2003 is the only game to incorporate all the up-to-date season statistics, as well as the likenesses of all 20 of the official FORMULA ONE drivers and all 10 FORMULA ONE teams. Every one of the 16 official Grand Prix circuits have been mapped to an astonishing level of accuracy, while the exhaustively-researched car performance and specification details are unmatched, thanks to data provided by the teams themselves.FORMULA ONE 2003 provides a more authentic driver experience than ever before. It is the only title to incorporate the radical new rules for the 2003 season, implemented to make the sport more competitive and thrilling than ever. The authenticity extends to the new race weekend regulations, where Fridays involve an initial qualifying session, Saturdays the all-or-nothing one-lap qualifying session and Sundays the race itself. Each circuit is modelled to greater detail than ever, and all objects - such as bollards, braking boards and advertising signage - will now be collided with if you miss your braking point, or misjudge the racing line and end up off the circuit. And it's not just you that can make expensive errors: new AI routines to incorporate driver personalities mean that computer-controlled drivers can act and react just as they would in real life - and even be just as fallible under pressure. The damage you do to your car when you get things wrong is also more authentic than ever before. Whether you hit another car or the scenery, or suffer engine failure, the new damage and failure programming routines ensure you suffer the consequences in a realistic way. And it's not just you that can suffer engine failure; you'll also see your competitors retiring with blown engines and electrical failures, or making driver errors.

This is a very good F1 simulation and i the realism of the handling, accelerating and braking is something i've not seen on the PS2 before. This is a game designed for people who will take time to get used to the way the game works and it is not one of those games you can pick up and play casually - you have to get into it in order to do well. I like the way the game uses the analogue button feature on the dualshock2 PS2 pad as this means you really have to press down hard to get the best acceleration/speed, braking and handling. I also like the different views available and the individual characteristics of cars like the steering wheel, shape and stats. However, there are a few annoying aspects of the game.First of all the crashes are unrealistic as CPU cars spin but stay glued to the track. If you watch the way the CPU drives on the replay it races at the speed on which the gears overlap ie. it changes up and down a lot when really it should be at a constant speed. This also means the CPU driver's heads nod a lot because of the gear changes. I was dissapointed to discover the TV commentary was only available on spectator mode as this means races lose a bit of their excitement when you drive. For a very realistic simulation there are not the amount of customisable options on the cars a la Grand Prix 4. The car stats are unbalanced as the Ferrari is way to good, the Renault, Toyota and Jaguar teams are not as good as they should be and the Jordan and Minardi teams are slightly overrated. However the graphics (especially the rain effects), the sound and the realism of car physics (except crashes) mean it is a bit like GT3 - frustrating at the start but hugely rewarding once you start to master it

"Unless I'm very much mistaken..."Lovely graphics (no more pop-up, loads more detail, lovely replays and truly spectacular weather effects), cool sounds (newly sampled engine sounds), great gameplay... but it's still too easy. There are loads of options and the multiplayer options in particular are good and offer some challenge. Unfortunately the difficulty on the simulation single player mode just isn't up to it. Surely the programmers must realise that if someone is willing to undertake a full race distance simulation then that person is also looking for a serious challenge. This game doesn't deliver on that front. The opposition A.I.is excellnt though and they have the knack of being in the right place at the right time to make your life difficult when overtaking and will fight back at you if you dare overtake them. The fact is I switched the game to its hardest setting, made no changes to the set up and plonked the Jordan on pole position with a two stop strategy first time out. This is a real shame because otherwise this would be a truly awesome game. As it is, I'd have to say close... but no cigar. As a P.S. if you're an F1 novice this game offers more than enough of a challenge and plenty of options to keep you glued for a while."And it's GO GO GO!"

There seems to be quite a mix of reviews for this game depending on whether people are looking for an arcade game or a simulation. In simulation mode, this game is great fun. I found it very difficult at first to get around the circuits without the odd wheel on the grass and the occasional resulting spin. After a few days of practise I am able to hit the podium but have not yet got a first place. The simulation is not 100% accurate. As someone else commented, drivers in the real season work very hard to claim back a tenth of a second here or there. In the game, it is possible to claim back a half second or more a lap quite easily at the detriment of tyres. Very frustrating, though realistic,to put the hammer down only to reach your opponent with tyres so bad that you can't overtake.All-in-all, I would say a very good simulation but the gaming aspect has not been forgotten. I for one do not want a perfect simulation where I cannot overtake and there would be no excitement!

How can you say this game is rubbish! It is the best F1 game in the world, and if you win in a minardi, you must be pretty good, I find this game a challenge, I and like a challenge for once! No, before you think, I am not rubbish at these sort of games, I've one the Championship about 20 times for F1 97, 20 times for F1 99, 30 times for F1 Championship Season 2000. I don't like those games much because they are way too easy. The graphics are so good, they even look real.Damage, is the best there is for a long time in console years. Yeah yeah, it may be a bit crappy for you total obsessive retards who will only buy a game if it is absolutley perfect. But I find it good. The tyres, the tred, the makers have got that almost spot on, I can't even believe it myself when I got it!Pit stops are very coolAnyway, this game is great, I would reconmend it for anyone who likes F1 and any other racing, because you finally feel part of the team.Buy it, it is worth it!

The 2003 game is better than last year's 2002 version. It has the line up for the brand new season 2003. Hopefully will Coulthard or Montoya beat world champion Michael Schumacher!!In this game you can test out all of the cars of the new season!!! Or take time out to watch your own race! It has the new modifications for France and Hungary and thank goodness the old overrated fellows (Massa and the Japanese guy Sato) are out. This year sees Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello stay at Ferrari. Williams retain the services of Juan Pablo Montoya and Ralf Schumacher. David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen stay at McLaren and how about more. Renault retain the services of ex Jordan and Prost driver Jarno Trulli.Test driver Fernando Alonso partners him in the British-based French team.

I have owned all the Studio Liverpool F1 games on PS2 - and Formula One 2003 is by far the best so far.The graphics and sound are awesome, and the gameplay is very good indeed. There are a couple of things that do get on my nerves though...1. The computer cars are following "rails". You only have to watch the cars crab around the tighter corners at Monaco to see this. Okay, they steer intelligently when you are fighting with them, but they are not using the same physics model as you.2. It is virtually impossible to push computer drivers off the track - because of point 1, which is kind of unfair when they cut you up, and you spin but they magically use the force to stay put...Other than the two points above,it's a fantastic game.... remember I said "game", not "simulator".

yup yup.. this is a top game. The feeling of speed is excellent. Sound is great but the commentary is pretty dull. Best just to turn that off and listen to 800BHP screaming out of your speakers. The tracks are amazingly realistic as is the game play. This is a game for people who want a real racing sim. Its difficult but not impossible. You cant hope to come into a 90right at 160mph and just slam on the anchors like in other inferior racing games and be carried round. Its let down a little by lack of help options and the fact you cant restart a race one you've started it without exiting to the main menu. A game for real F1 fans who have specially adapted thumbs!! You wont put it down.Oh and it is possible to slam Schui into the wall and put him out of the race..cool!

The BEST console F1 simulation!----------------------------------------Not leaps and bounds better than F1 2002, but then again it didnt need to be, as it was already the best F1 game avaiable on any console.(GP4 is 'THE BEST' F1 SIM.......on the PC of course!)All the updated drivers/teams & most importantly, rule changes are included.(if you dont know, all the tracks are more or less the same as previous seasons, with slight modifications, which this game DOES have)If you have got F1 2002 and are not a F1 fan, I dont think its worth the while you paying £30 for this game, but................If on the other hand you are like me and are crazy about F1 and need to have the lastest updates,GETTHIS GAME!-----------------------

Having never found any Formula One sim as enjoyable as the first two games in this series (in 96 & 97), I wasn't too hopeful when buying this. However, I have been pleasantly surprised. It seems to have struck the right balance again in simulation mode between playability and realism, which makes playing it both challenging and fun. The graphics are the best I've seen for a Formula One game with no discernable slow-down, and the AI is also pitched at a good level which can make overtaking a real challenege. There's not much glitz in terms of intro / grid sequences for each race, and some of the tracks seems a bit flatter than I think they are in real life, but other than that there's not much that's negative.

OK i just bought the new f1 sim. First impressions great. The graphics are breathtaking especially the backgrounds. The lifelike sounds add to the experience. Unlike F1 2002 this game is a proper sim not an arcade racer with an F1 badge on it. Furthermore you have access to a full race weekend. This includes:Friday Test Session (Only if you are: Minardi, Jordan Renault Jaguar)Friday PracticeFriday QualifyingSaturday Practice 1Saturday Practice 2Saturday Warm-upSaturday QualifyingSunday Warm-upSunday RACEThe gameplay itself is very diffuclt. On easy i'm currently lapping about 5 second slower than the slowest Minardi. At £20 in some stores this game is definatly worth the money.

if you are anything like me, you will of watched f1 on the telly and seen the onboard cameras and thought to yourself "why can't they make a game look like that". Well now i can finally say this is probably the closest i will come in a long time.I'm a big fan of f1 sims and this is by far the best i've played. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay superb and just right and the sound is excellent too.Once you start to play the game, it can get frustrting as you only have to put your rear wheel an inch off the tarmac and you are suddenly in a different direction, but stay with it as the rewards are so massive. Long live f1 2003!
