I must admit when I settled down to play Fifa 2003 I wasn't expecting too much, even though I was aware that this is a completely revamped game. The previous Fifa games had not impressed me. I'd already snapped up league leader Pro Evolution 2 and rented This Is Football 2003 so I knew what the key opposition was like.Well I have to say that I am in shock over what must easily be the best Fifa football game ever. The general presentation and menus and so on are still up to their usual high standards. Watching a Fifa match in broadcast camera mode, however, looks the closest thing I've yet seen to a real game on TV. The graphics are simply stunning and easily put Pro Evo 2 and the good looking TIF 2003 into the shade. The stadiums look great with everything that you would expect to see in them present, except may be the rioting. The crowds cheer, boo, whistle and chant their teams' names. The stadium announcer burbles away in that muffled sound you hear in real stadiums. The commentary by Motty and Ally is also great. The player animations are simply phenomenal. The famous players are easily identifiable. Players use their bodies very convincingly to control the ball. They turn, twist, jink, chest and stretch very realistically and throw their arms down amusingly when they miss a good chance. The all important gameplay has been dramatically upgraded. No longer does the ball cling to the end of a player's foot like a sticky ballon. When a player takes a long kick, the ball moves in a realistic Pro Evo way rather than in a strange looping manner that you might expect to see on the moon. Passing along the ground is now ultra slick allowing fast flowing attacking play that didn't seem possible in previous Fifa games. Shooting requires more thought than the usual press and hope efforts of the past too. Games are now exciting without endless goals.Gripes? Well the auto player selection is still substandard when trying to defend. It seems very hard to get control of your defenders to stop skilful attackers running in on goal. I also thought that the camera views always seemed to show the action either slightly too far away or slightly too near. So, has Fifa taken the footy crown from Pro Evolution Soccer? No, not in my opinion! The Pro Evo games are still far more intuitive and allow you to produce good attacking and defending play without the effort that Fifa requires. I think, however, that EA have done a good job and Fifa now clearly beats TIF 2003 on gameplay. In summary, if you are a footy fan who can only afford one game then Fifa 2003 will more than do.

The launch of the much anticipated fifa 2003 saw what everyone thought was going to be another poor update of a fifa series turn into a much improved highly playable game, that is actually challanging and fun to play. As all previous users of the fifa series know, the game has got some serious problems with graphics, scoring in the game (far too easy and predictable) and problems with players who seem to have minds of their own. Im not saying that fifa 2003 is flwless, but at the same time it can now at least challenge the undesputed king of football evolution soccer. The shooting system in particular has been radically changed, it still keeps the power bar style shot, but the ability to score 50 yard screamers with ease has been modified so now it takes tactics and skill with a precision shot to foil the keeper. The passing seems to be a lot smoother as well, one-two's are possible and long passing is more skill than definate with this version.Something that previous fifa users will find a bit tricky to get used to is the change of control configuration, this is to accommodate the new trick section which is controlled by the R3 butto, this performs knock on and step overs. The basic style of the game stays the same with the options of custom cups and legues still there, also the ability to unlock special cups and teams upon completion of seasons and tournaments. The graphics in 2003 are what makes this game a bit special. I have to say that it looks the business, life like faces and even the characteristics of individual players are there (the Roy Keane glare and the Alan Shearer dive are all there), the stadiums are also accurate in detail and depending on who you play against/as you get crowd chants to suit.Lifes not all perfect for 2003 though, the players bodys still look as though they are playing american football and the shooting can sometimes be a bit too sesitive. Also if you get carried away and press one too many buttons you find your player knocks the ball to completely no-where and then just stands still, sometime when a player recieves the ball he also just stands still until he gets tackled. Sliding tackles seem to be a bit of a waste of time and are best avoided. But thats what we've come to expect from fifa isnt it!Overall i would definately say that 2003 is a serious improvement on a much loved series, for existing fifa owners this is a valuable update with some serious problems ironed out, for new customers its wether or not you want to pay a few quid extra for ISS.

FIFA 2003 is the most enjoyable game I have ever played. The reason I say it is better than its predecessors is mainly because of its AI. For e.g., if I bring a defender forward into the midfield, the computer will pass the ball to the lone attacker and Goal! Similarly if I try to take a player from his formation, I get the consequences. The most realistic aspect of the game is that I just can NOT hit a goal by the skill of a single player only. All of them, the Defenders, Midfielders and Forwards need to be helping each other for a goal. The player attributes and skill moves are unique, like Ronaldo's nutmeg. Another example is that if you keep Beckham in the attack and play (with the computer as ManUtd),he just shoots from the midfield itself, just like a real midfielder and that he cannot be a Forward. The ball control is perfect because the attacker can shoot at the goal only if he has the ball at his feet and not when the ball is away from him. In the 2002 version, if you shoot when the ball is not at his feet it gets attracted back to him as if by magic and he shoots (I'm NOT kidding! Just try it and see if what I've said is true!). The largest room in the world is the room for improvement, and FIFA 2003 is not an exception (nothing under the sun is!). The player hair needs to be dynamic and so should be his expressions. The substitutes and stadium guards are mere dolls. The intensity of the sun must change from time to time and clouds must pass now and then casting shadows and sometimes rain on the gruond. The players must breathe and sweat (under the lights). Rain should form mud that sticks to the clothing and face. Substitutions must be shown with the players coming in and out. The players at no moment (especially during free kicks and corners) should stand still like statues. Shirt pulling must be added. Fans should reach for the ball when it is coming on to them and replays should have custom camera angles. And don’t forget to make Michael Owen look a little younger (he looks 40 years old!) The list is a big one but still I say this is THE best football game till now because the list of corrections that this game draws is very very small compared to that of other football games. I can say this is the next best thing to, well... Playing real football!

Yes believe it or not EA have finally woken up to the Konami challenge! After years of producing drivel and basically bringing the same game out year after year they have finally put in some effort! The result... a cracking game!Basically i've been a ISS/Pro Evo convert since 1st playing it on ISS on the N64 before moving on to the better ISS pro evolution games on the PSX. The last Konami game I bought was Pro Evo on the PS2 and have yet to buy their 2nd installment. I have played it several times and to be fair the gameplay on PES2 is superb, however i'm so enjoying FIFA2003 I simply haven't bothered to buy it yet.I never thought i'd use the words ENJOY and FIFA in the same sentence again but they have blown me away with this release!Firstly the game builds on it's strong points. The graphics are superb with fantastic detail, animation and atmosphere. The sound is realistic, with amazing, accurate and varied crowd chants that really draw you into the game. The official license has been used very well with all the kits, teams, player names and likenesses. Ok so FIFA games have always been fairly strong in those areas but historically they have also missed out on the entire reason we play games...for enjoyable, challenging and rewarding gameplay!! This game delivers that in bucket loads!! The control is superb and responsive, you can pass, shoot and place the ball exactly where you want. The skill system is useful and intuitive. The way you can make other players run into space when you want them to is fantastic! The games are no longer more closely related to pinball and most of all IT IS FUN!!I will never put Konami or the PES series down as those games are equally as fantastic and to be honest if it wasn't for their innovation in the genre then i'm sure we wouldn't be seeing the same FIFA2003 today. Konami have finally given EA a kick up the back side and they have learnt that people don't buy games for official licenses alone. With 2 great footie games now on the market hopefully this will inspire Konami to revolutionise the genre again in PES3 and hot up the war for best footie game further! So well Done EA, just make sure that FIFA2004 isn't just a rehash of this..please!!

In my opinion, Fifa 2003 is the best football game so far with its many new features and different look. Many new features have been added to the game and there is a new 'In Stadium Atmosphere' and a closer up camera view, which shows how the graphics have hugely improved. With over 16 leagues, 350 official teams and 10,000 players, you can't go wrong with this hugely improved game. This game has a totally new game play experience with new dribbling, shooting, crossing, passing and improved player intelligence. You can command players of your team to run to a different position for a better attack and even tell your goalkeeper to come off his line when you are under pressure of conceding a goal. From the improved graphics, you can tell exactly who the footballer is by looking at their face and the football kits look more detailed than ever. To top all this off, teams have their own chants and songs as well as power meters for passes, shots, crosses and free kicks. You may have noticed that I only gave the game 4 out of 5 stars. I didn't give the game 5 stars because many features from the older games have been cut out. Creating your own teams and players has been taken out of the game, as well as transfers and training. I didn't mind too much about training, but without transfers you can't keep the game up to date. If you are purchasing this for PC, then patches can be downloaded for this game to add on these things, but if you have it for Playstation 2, like me, there are currently no add-ons for this.Overall, I would definitely recommend this game to football fans and if you are looking for a new game play experience, then you will get that with this wonderful game. You really feel as if you are in the stadium with this game, especially when you score a goal, the crowd are just like real and the commentary is hugely improved. I would give this game 9/10!

Yet Again i waited and waited in anticipation of this game for probably the 8th year running, hoping that EA SPorts could surprise me yet again with the TV Style Presentations and a brand new way of playing the game and once i got my first go i wasn't diappointed....Started of with my favourite Team Arsenal and was amazed to see that you could choose which strip to play in and once you get past the same routine of choosing your controllers etc the game got underwayAs the players ran on the pitch it was evident that the Graphics again were top notch and the familiar voice of John Motson Echoed out on my surround sound, when the surprise that is Ally McCoist introduced himself another good addition by EA.The Commentary is linked so surperbly to the game, better than ever before and once the game kicked off you just knew that they had done it again. With A Feel of Pro evolution in the gameplay it became very easy to settle into the game.Eventually i got a free kick just outside the box and found the next new feature. There is a new free kick sytem where you adjust the ballspin as well as where you want to put the ball, it isn't easy to master and i have only scored once out of about 20 attempts, might just be me...........Once i did score again the replays are just as good as normal and now the game has a half time package with highlights from the half - The match stats are a lot more detailed as well. There are loads of little details in this game that you see on the TV today when you are watching the footie and it makes it feel more and more realistic, after the disappointing Fifa World Cup game with the silly star system the die hard Fifa Fans As well as some brand new fans it will genrate will know straight away how good a game it is....

I purchased Pro Evolution Soccer 2 and was not disappointed! But to my dismay...my girlfriend purchased me FIFA 2003!! I vowed never to buy a FIFA game again after the appalling FIFA 2002.I decided to give it a go...that way I could keep the missus happy. When I played.... SHOCK!!!!!!! The game was brilliant. It was like Pro Evolution Soccer game play with FIFA stats, graphics and commentary. Welcome to the perfect world. With FIFA's new AI system, the game has never been better, from controlling the power of shots & through balls to realism of movement & shots. What I mean by this is that if you try to run with the ball when your Phil Neville, you will find it much harder to run than say if you were Zidane. The realism of the shots has improved as you can't just score from anywhere like you could on the old FIFA series, you have to determine the power of the shots and choose your placement wisely, otherwise you will put shots tamely at the keeper from 6 yards or smash them high and wide of the goal. The free kick system has been modified so that you can even choose which part of the ball you want to kick. You can curl it like Beckham, Hit it with the outside of your boot like Carlos or even just smash it like Shearer. The game has got the up to date stats and the kits are so realistic, the kits have the official team badge, kit supplier & sponsor. Finally, just to make the game even more realistic, there is unique player attributes such as Roberto Carlos shimmy as he steps up to take his free kick.In my opinion, FIFA 2003 has really hit it off big time now, if you wanted to purchase Pro Evolution Soccer 2, save your money and use it on FIFA 2003.

...What a game FIFA 2003 is, its totally different than the previous 2 FIFA games i have played (FIFA 2002 & FIFA 2002 World Cup). I instantly loved the new game engine that EA have devised for this game, its realistic and great fun to play.As ever the database of players is fantastic and unlike the other games on the market all the kits (including away and third strips), player details (squad numbers & stats) and the official club stadiums are all in real detail. But the best thing EA introduced for FIFA 2003 is the reaction of the fans when you score a goal. New this year there is a section visable in the stadium where your away fans are chanting, but when you score that away goal the whole crowd goes silent, except for your small army of fans!Over the past few years EA has had competition with its FIFA games from the likes of Konami and its ISS Pro series, but FIFA have really come up with something here better than ever.If your a football fan who likes everything official with all the leagues, proper players, proper squad numbers and stadiums then FIFA 2003 is the best you can get.The player models of Ryan Giggs, Edgar Davids and Roberto Carlos give the game a great feel, especially when your attacking defenders down the wings curving in and out before sending in the cross for your striker to stick out a leg or a head! But there is a downside to the game, trying to score from 30 yards is not as simple as it is in games like ISS pro but the game is realistic and like in real top flight football games it isn't that easy to score from 30 yards.

After playing many of the Fifa titles in the past, I have always been impressed with the way they look so realistic, however I have accepted that the overal gameplay has never been that skilful. However the game has been re-worked offering a lot more technical style of play, such as controlling how hard you shoot and pass, and a completely new set piece system, yet the fun factor of the game is not lost at all.The overal wow factor is the attention to detail, i have never seen so much detail gone into a football game before, player likenesses are amazing, even going down to details of what colour boots they where, such as David Beckham's distinctive Red ones. You even have a choice of what kit to wear, choosing from home, away and third kit (if the team has one) all kits are authentic, and give the game an amazing realism. The Stadia are also fantastic, evry detail is put into famous grounds such as Highbury or Old Trafford, and the atmosphere is alos unique with real football chants being belted out from the stands. The game is also Dolby Surround and DTS compatible, enabling surround users to experience a fantastic football simulation. The reason I have deducted a star is because there is one frustrating aspect, which is there are long loading times when bringing on substitutes which can be a little frustrating while playing a match, but all round the game is awsome, and is well worth buying, and a must have for all football fans.

I have to say, after the last few years of the FIFA games, I thought that maybe I had made a mistake after buying the latest version. I thought that the FIFA games had gone down hill since FIFA '98 Road To The World Cup, which was a brilliant game. This FIFA on the other hand was a vast improvement from last years! The graphics are brilliant, good in-game music, every clubs home stadium and now the ability to chose which kit your team and the opponents team wears!! The general game play is very different from the last FIFA as it is now more realistic. EA Sports have used Roberto Carlos, Egdar Davids and Ryan Giggs to generate a whole better game. The new "Freestyle" control is a new interesting concept that EA have brought in and have made it work. Now you can take a free kick and "Bend it like Beckham" or take it past a player on the wing like Ryan Giggs or do fancy footwork like the Brazilians with the new freestyle control. Also there are now replays of close missed shots and a selection of events from each half at half time and the end of the match.Although, FIFA 2003 lacks something and that is why I have only given it 4 stars. FIFA 98 was great because it had all the international teams and an indoor pitch. Maybe if EA put these back in the game, they might achieve the full 5 stars!

Every year we are inundated with hapless rehashes of older games promising to be better than before and the FIFA series set the mould for such behaviour. Every year about November time we can expect an improved version of Fifa where the improvements don't seem that significant however this time is an exception to the rule. Ditching a lot of the customisable options and much more attention seems to have been paid gameplay. This version of Fifa has two modes:Simulation mode, where the gameplay is far more involving and requires lots more skill and uses more tactics and strategies and plays more like the Pro Evolution series.Action mode,is your traditional Fifa game. There are lots of nice little touches here and there like the detail players attributes, behaviour and looks. for example Raul kisses his ring when he scores and alike. The kits are authentic as usual and i like how there is far more skill involved when shooting. The tactics are clever as well. When beating a computer controlled team it will substitute defenders for strikers and likewise if they are winning they tend to sub strikers for defenders. All in all i was well impressed with this game and needless to say it is a massive improvement on an ageing game engine. This is simply a must for any footy mad gamer!

I am no doubt a great fan of the Pro Evo series and to be honest the FIFA series was never an option!Untill FIFA 2003 came!Reviews became better although not as good as Pro Evo!Graphics were stunning, it looked genuinely great!I brought Pro Evo 2 and enjoyed alot! But with FIFA 2003 there was something niggling inside me telling me to buy it!The other FIFA's i played were poor! But i bought this anyway!I WAS SHOCKED!The graphics were amazing, out of this world! The football was sharp!Real kits and sponsors!Plenty of tournaments, seasons and things to do!So what did i prefer Pro Evo 2 or FIFA 2003?Well lets some it up!Fifa 2003:Real Kits, Sponsers, Stunning Graphics, crisp Passing,Outstanding Commentary!Pro Evo 2: Master league, Good Shooting and passing! Quick! When i summed it up like this Fifa wins it!The reviews in magazines suggest not, although its well on its way to compete with pro evo, but i suggest its there!Few tweaks with the shooting and the fact that theres a slight pause as the ball heads into the net it would be great!I think this New FIFA has turned heads, its now definitly a competitor!I have to say it again the graphics steal it for me!I think this game is great! If your a footee fan give this ago!FIFA 2003 HAS LANDED!

Unlike many of the previous Fifa titles I was pleasantly surprised when I put this game into my PS2.Not only are the graphics superb, but the game actually does play like football. You can make players run off the ball, and like you might have read, not all the passes you make are 100% acurate (which was the annoying thing about other fifa titles).I rate the gameplay 10/10 (gameplay is the most important aspect in my view). There is a simulation and an arcade mode now, so if you like winning games 10-0 or so play the arcade mode and vice versa.I have a few minor niggles though..1. If you are playing the computer they always kick off exactly the same way (ie try to run it towards the goal straight from the kick off)2.The game slows to an almost stop for a second or two if you make a substitution.3. And the commentary leaves a bit to be desired (especially motty!)Other than that I think my 4/5 rating is quite fair.Alot of work has gone into making the individual players look as true to life as possible, Ground chants at the big european grounds (The crowd start singing 'you'll never walk alone' at Anfield for example). So in summary, if you are looking for a decent footy game this year, this might be the one.

Fifa. If you'd have mentioned it's name back in the days of the Mega Drive the response would have been "the best footie game on the market." Say it now and you'd get, "hmm it's good, but Pro Evolution Soccer is better." EA sports got a slamming last year when not only did Pro Evo out sell its flagship game but critics called Fifa 2002 all cosmetic, and they were right. So EA re-made this Fifa from scratch! What have we got? A very good football game. You have the choice of arcade/sim which is nice, the amount of leagues and players etc is astounding and the commentry is excellent as always (no Andy Gray tho, bring on Ally McCoist!). Does it out-do Pro Evo 2? Well yes and no.Where as Evo 2 has fluidity and better gameplay, Fifa is easier to get into. Sure the freestyle thing on Fifa is hard to get used to (no more Roberto Carlos master classes on the pitch), but you can pick it up and play.Worth ...[the price], yeh of course it is, for once EA have listened and responded with something which isn't disappointing. You never know, maybe nxt years will blow Konami and Pro Evo outta the water.

Forget pro evouloution soccer and get fifa 2003. New improved gameplay makes it faster and amazing goals and saves can be used. Graphics make players look really amazing making Beckhams haircut even better than real life and most players look exactly right. Free kicks, after a life time of free kicks going and injuring some guy in the upper tier or just rolling it to the keeper. You now get to choose where to kick it, what part of the ball your going to kick and then as the marker moves stop it in the green section and you swerve it into the top left hand corner. There are plenty of leagues, cups and difficulty levels to play. Then when that gets old play arcade mode and the ball doesn't even stick to your feet.If there are any bad parts it is that there is no creation centre so you have to stick to the players in the game rather than your own world beating creations. Passing is a bit dodgy and the commentary is a bit annoying yet again. John Motson and Ally McCoist are annoying and could do with much improvement. I think if your looking for a new and good footy game this is the one.
