I don't like watching American Football and before Madden 2001 I had a very vague and incorrect concept of what all these over padded men were doing on something that resembled a rugby pitch with what looked certain to be a rugby ball. However,on playing EA's 2001 version I was hooked (although I still don't watch it on TV). It is a very in depth, tactical and addictive game with some amazing visuals. The 2003 version has improved slightly on the visuals but the main improvement has been in the plays, the Franchise mode (spans 30 years) which has a great managerial element comparative to LMA Manager or Championship Manager. In addition there are lots of goal oriented objectives which you will be rewarded with medals (mini-camp mode)and can be traded in for cards which you collect and can use in-game. theer are other modes available, like 2-minute drill and a comprehensive training mode which teaches you all the plays for your selected team. As far as team goes, (not knowing the slightest about the real teams) I presume they are all there (apart from college teams) and you can unlock past teams for the various clubs. All I can say is that don't be afraid of it...once you get a basic idea of the game, the rest will slowly come and the learning experience was one of the reasons I took so much enjoyment out of the 2001 version. The only problem I can say is that the US have this as an on-line game BUT we don't and that's no criticism of EA's exceptional work in the industry.

Madden NFL 2003 is the 13th (count 'em) incarnation of the series across various platforms. I'd bought the first on the Megadrive way back when and hadn't revisited the series since, so I was curious as to the advancements made. It's come on a ways since then! The format of the game is still familiar, if you're on offence you pick your attacking formation, snap the ball to the quarterback and pick which player you pass or throw to. Again as defence you attempt to pick a counter-formation to stop the offence making any ground. The options and detail, however, are just mind boggling. You get the option of half a dozen formations for starters, which can in turn be reversed left to right. Then, for each formation you can pick around 9 different types of attack, which in turn can be changed once the field is set by use of the 'audible' function. The same applies to the defence. There are several different playing modes such as tournament, franchise, (where you take control of a team for 30 YEARS!!)practise modes and even a football 101 where each formation and play is explained and then you try to repeat it. There are options for creating players, whole teams, and even the coach! In short, the game gives you so many options that those of you who like American Football are going to love this game. Those of you who don't know anything about the NFL will grow to love this game. Those of you who don't like American Football... well you're probably rugby players!

This game is absolutly amazing. If EA put the attention to detail into Fifa that they do in Madden then people would realise the greatness of EA.I really love American football and thus know all the rules, however if you don't know the rules then the game does alot about that. Firstly there is the Football 101 feature which teaches you al about the formations and plays and makes all the X's and O's make sense. Even the commentery during the game helps you pick the right play and gives you tactical advise. If you are a fan of the sport already then this won't annoy you as much as it should becasue the commentary still sounds realistic and just like on the TV.The Francise mode is fantastic,it lets you take over the running of any NFL team including contracts signing players and rookie scouting. This means that after a few years the team feels more and more personalised as you sign players to fit in with your style of offence and defence. Nothing is more satisfying than signing a rookie and taking them to the pro bowl in their rookie year.

I haven't owned one of the Madden American Football games since it first came out on the Megadrive all those years ago and if this is anything to go by I've sure missed out.Madden 2003 is a fantastic game for both lovers and loathers of the sport. It has excellent visuals and gameplay and is extremely enjoyable. It features varying levels of difficulty and, for amateurs like me, offers an easy-play mode to take some of the mystery out of the sport.Being a fan of football manager games I was delightd to see that I could control my own franchise and lead the Bears all the way to the Superbowl for 30 consecutive seasons (dream on!).I would strongly recommend this game to one and all. It'll keep you occupied for ages and might explain this most strange of American sports to a wider audience. Buy it!

There are many in-depth options that can be used in Madden NFL 2003. These include:Create a team: See also create a player.Create a player: Full depth on appearance and statsCreate a playbook: Add up to 81 plays from existing playbooks and also create your own plays in full detail. No stone left unturned.Franchise: Trade players and sign free agents. Play for 30 years!Drills: Really do improve skills, especially the two-minute drill, where you can practise hurry - up offense. Some would buy it because they like NFL. I like NFL because I bought this game.

This another of the excellent games that have been made by EA Sports and Madden himself. With the new modes such as 2 minute drills, mini camp and the option of being able to buy Madden cards which give you the upper edge in a game.Superb and even if you don't like American Football I think that you will still love this. From Offence to Defence this game is the best I have played for a very long time.

This is a great game with all of the new features made to amaze. All the great players are back for this version of Madden. Players like Elway, Marino and Unitas are there to get. Also, with Madden helping you out on what a play is called and why helps you understand the game more in depth.Superb. Recomment it to anyone, interestted in NFL or not
