Last year's marvellous NASCAR 06: Total Team Control was a breath of fresh air in a PS2 race-gaming world stifled by the frequently irritating TOCA Race Driver 3 and soulless Gran Turismo 4. It gave racing simulation fans the kind of real-world accuracy that the other games promised but failed to deliver and was both hugely immersive and massively playable.This year's continuation has maintained this high standard in addition to including a few tweaks that make stock car racing even more of a blast.Visually, although the graphics are again very pleasing on the eye, the most notable change is the `speed-blur' effect when things begin to get quick; the area around the car goes slightly out of focus and gives the impression that you're really shifting.In reality the game plays no quicker than last year's version (which was perfectly acceptable), but the effect enhances the sensation of speeding around some of the world's quickest tracks (particularly when racing in the pack) and contributes much to the already impressive atmosphere.The Race To The Top mode is still the core feature (with drivers' liveries updated to take in the new season), and to make it even more playable you get to race a fastest lap on a selection of circuits under the heading `Allstate Qualifiers' in an effort to earn a place in a Nextel Cup team right from the off.The cars handle really well and you can still hop from teammate to teammate as you make your way up to the front, with the same grudges and alliances as before.As an on-screen aid, this time you have a Driver Attribute Meter which improves your performance as the race goes on, as long as you keep things clean and come through each unexpected on-track situation well. Get it to 100% and you're well on your way to out performing your competitors. Screw up and life gets more difficult.The game sounds great - you get the real feel of V8 grunt whining at peak performance, and the spotter/crew chief commentary is as good as last time. The driver command options are the same and even after a year playing NASCAR 06 I'm still addicted to controlling a race to get the most points possible.Although not as visually refined as some other offerings, quite rightly the game relies more on playability and atmosphere (content over form) and in these EA have got the balance just about perfect.There are all the race modes and set-up options you could want plus tons of tutorials and unlockables to keep you coming back.Serious racers and the curious should both try this game out - once you're in the thick of it you'll wonder why you wasted so much time on other so-called simulations that pale by its comparison.I can't wait for NASCAR 08.

Great underrated racing game.it is a bit dated now but i love it and I'm not even american and know nothing about the sport.you would think driving around in a circle would be boring but actually the racing is pretty intense.completely different from other track racing games

PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN IF YOU LIKE SPEED BUT IF ITS SPEED YOU WANT THEN THIS GAME WILL GIVE YOU SOME SPEED BUT NOT A LOT GRAPHICS ARE REASONABLE BUT I ENJOY PLAYING IT

Ok game though it doesn't look good now but it plays and handles a little better than the new ones.
