Craigellachie pronounced Kray-Geh-Lehckie is a less well known single malt that does deserve at least a purchase at some point in your whisky tasting life. I've tried perhaps 30 types of whisky (novice!) And this is by far one of my true favourites. It is a 13 year old uncoloured non-chill filtered Speyside whisky that is under the Dewar's portfolio and Dewar's themselves are owned by the Bacardi group. Anyway don't let me bore you with this drivel and let's start talking about the whisky. Craigellachie market themselves as being traditional. They still use worm tubs which are a series of coiled tunnels used to collect the alcohol vapours during the distilling process. You'll keep hearing that it is a 'meatier'whisky as a result whatever that means. Anyway, for me the result is smoothness and drinkability. It has all the components of a complex whisky but it is simple on the palate and fresh on the nose. Haha...simple complexity. Anyway, I taste oak, a little peat, sweetness and fruitiness. It is a bright tasting single malt. It's a relaxing drink and you don't need to be in a certain mood to drink it (here's looking at all you peat monsters out there). Anyway, who knows what you'll taste but I reckon you should at least give this a try at some point in the future. I mean, why not?

Craigellachie is in my top three Speyside whiskies alongside anything from Glenfarclas or Glendronach. The quality of the spirit is obvious on the first sip.For me, I have also noticed that I like most whiskies that have been distilled using the 'worm tub' method. There is just a more richer flavour and better feel in the mouth.Craigellachie 13 is also one of the better value whiskies considering the quality on offer here. But is the 17yr old worth more than twice the price of this? I am sure it would be good, but this 13yr old is more than good enough and I would rather have two of these.

This is a very smooth Speyside, easy to drink and even though I'm not an expert, I get some sweet toffee-ish notes with a smoky finish. Definitely recommend for someone that likes a bit peat but nothing overwhelming.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Chunky, complex and very drinkable. Everything I want from a malt whisky in a market where bland or confused is all too common. This is how it should be!
