Ok so I didn’t directly buy the new fire Hd rather I got it from a friend who bought it and just didn’t have a use for it mainly because he doesn’t make much use of Amazon’s eco system and so gave it to me because I previously owned a previous generations fire hd 8.I took it to have a secondary machine for Netflix and browsing and kindle mainly, I travel between a couple of places to live and work its convenient to have a device in both, I reimbursed my friend the full price he paid and I consider it more than fair for what you get, and I was planning to purchase one anyway but probably would have waited til Christmas.First because this always irritates me before buying this product you needto understand what it is so it is being sold at cost or maybe even below so amazon can you sell you its digital services it’s what the tablet and the OS is literally designed for so if your not a moderate to heavy user of amazon you won’t get the most out of the device, that’s not a flaw with the product that’s just not understanding what the product is. It’s still a perfectly good tablet if you don’t like amazon but does become much less of a value proposition since amazon is what it has been built around.2nd stop comparing to the iPad there are meant for 2 completely different market segments one is for the premium market the other is the budget market where every penny counts and where price to performance rules.they are both great at what they do but comparing them is fairly fruitless. There was last time I checked at least 160 pound difference between the fire 10 and the base iPad that’s a 100 percent difference is the base iPad a 100 percent better no not by a long shot in my estimation but as I said it’s two different markets and 2 gargantuan different price ranges, and that’s not even allowing for the fact that the iPad prices keeps climbing up.What is worthwhile is comparing it to other tabs within its price range and there is simply nothing among the Samsung, Lenovo and other rivals that compares even if you allow another 50-60 onto the price this is a great value item there is compromises still only has 2 gb of ram processor is improved but still isn’t top of the line however this is still a solid mid range tablet offered at budget prices. So compared to the fire he 8 I found the screen a step up its full hd and a better video consumption device the colours are still bit drab i thought but it works excellent as a e-reader the processor has been upgraded and I found it a noticeable improvement don’t get me wrong you still won’t be doing anything too intensive but it not prone too freezing like previous generations.Again this is meant as a media consumption device not a laptop replacement or even a work aid. Sound is decent for a tablet won’t rock your world but you can pay a lot more for tablets with worse sound. You can expand the internal storage with an SD card and I found the construction , like previous models to be hardy tough and well wearing. Plastic yes but solid. The os is a android skin a bit clunky but with the new processor it’s snappy enough and based around the amazon store so that means a more limited app selection unless you download the google play store which can be done with workarounds but can lead to the odd hiccup since the apps in the play store aren’t designed directly for the Fire, again this isn’t a design flaw It is the Design and again while you can download the play store it’s at your own risk, though I have never had any issues, for most users the amazon store would be enough anyway. At this stage Amazon have amazon music , video kindle ext what’s on offer Varys with location I am from the Republic of Ireland my self any queries and you can do a free trial of prime to see if it suits which allows you to see for yourself what’s available.Again for the money this is an excellent tablet if you understand going in what it is you won’t bedisappointed as a primary media consumption device for yourself or a hardy tablet for your kids with excellent parental controls it’s amazing value just stop comparing it to a iPad whose base model is still far more expensive then the fire he 10 even without counting the fact its often on special offer at a even lower price, and it comes packaged with fairly good customer services and the fact that all of amazons various digital services can be taken for a free test drive there’s not a whole lot of room for going wrong if you own the direct previous modelI wouldn’t be in a rush to upgrade just because of a moderately better processor but for anyone else especially those on a budget this tablet makes a whole lot of sense.

I love this tablet! It does have some pros and cons (everything does these days) but in my experience the pros out way the cons. I have been using this tablet for a few weeks now and I haven't had a single day that I haven't been able to make full use of it for what I wanted to do.The pros:Obviously the biggest pro to this tablet is the price! For £150 you really will not get a better option. Sure you can get a tablet for a lower price but you will be compromising on the quality. And you forget one at a better quality but the price will shoot up drastically. If your looking for a good tablet in the lower price range, this is the one for you.Secondly the screen is brilliant.I looked around a lot before deciding on a Kindle fire for my tablet and I couldn't find a screen as big or as good for anywhere near this price. With full HD it is a treat to use for reading, web browsing or watching movies/TV.The comparability is another great pro to this tablet (with one caveat I'll get to in the cons). I wanted a tablet that I could for everyday things and also do draw on so being able to use a good stylus was a must. It is very unclear what will work with a Kindle fire when looking for a decent stylus but I can confirm it is a capacitive screen that works will all the "android" compatible pens I have tried. I use a ciscle stylus and it works REALLY well on this screen. The cons:The only real cons to this tablet are the "special offers" are a bit annoying but you can pay Amazon to make these go away. Once I used the tablet for a few days I started to not even notice them so just left them going (they appear as special offers "adverts" on the lock screen) other than that they don't show up at all.I wish I could put a sim card in it to take it o. The go a little easier, but all my media apps (Netflix, Amazon prime, Disney life etc) have a download feature to watch off line, so not a deal breaker. And I also just use my mobile as a hotspot if I need to get online. The one big con is the app store. You can't use the play store on this device and the Amazon app library is far smaller. So if you intend to use a specific app make sure it is available to download from Amazon or you won't be able to get it. This is the only real issue I have found with this tablet. Amazon does have alternatives for most apps but you will be limited. I feel this is more an app issue than a tablet issue as app developers just don't seem to cater to the Amazon app store. So in summary this is a real bargain and a really good value for money purchase. I would highly recommend it.

If like me, you're not always glued to your tablets or smartphone, you don't always need the latest glossy tech releases (my last samsung phone lasted me 6 years!), you want one device to read books on, stream music from and do the usual internet surfing when a phone screen is too small, if you want the option of using it for games and movies (at least my nieces do) and you don't want to spend hundreds of pounds, the Amazon Fire range could be for you.I've had it a few months and so far, I'm impressed. After reading other reviews I bought the 32gb and a micro sd card to expand the memory (cheaper than just buying 64gb version). It was very easy to set up and link to my spotify account, emails and other usual apps. It doesn't look slick and glossy - but it's less than £200 and if you want a sleek looking unit, buy a funky case! I will always have it in a case, so all I will ever see is the screen which is very clear whether surfing, reading or watching movies. It also has the function to remove the blue light which is supposed to keep you awake, useful if you're a bedtime reader. It does make the screen more of a yellow-orange hue but I prefer reading in that sort of light so it works well for me.Sound isn't great but again, it's less than £200 so I wasn't expecting a huge amount. Sound is clear for speech, but can be a bit tinny. I'm sure that could be rectified by connecting to independent speakers but I haven't tried that function yet.I also recently joined Amazon Prime so linking to your account is very easy. I don't agree with some reviews suggesting it's trying to throw everything Amazon at you. To some extent it will, for obvious reasons, but you can choose what to look at. I download the free Prime books and videos and both download quickly and easily over wi-fi and have kept me and my nieces entertained on a very wet weekend away!Loss of one star is due to sound quality and inability to download apps through play store, etc. It would make it a more useable device, esp when linking up with other non-Amazon tablet users! I have read other reviews that say there is a way to get round this but I haven't yet tried it...This is my first tablet purchase and overall I think this is really good value for money. If you want something that may be quicker or look more sleek and glossy, you'll need to spend at least 4 times what this costs. I prefer functional, value for money and for me, this does the job well.

...install Google's Play store, essentially breaking down the wall and allowing a world of options to flood in. Takes only minutes, and is so easy to do -- doesn't even invalidate the warranty (no rooting, etc -- see the TechJunkie Youtube video). Then buy it. Bang for buck ratio is insane. The screen is nice and bright/sharp, turning pages - pretty much doing anything -- is super fluid (I don't play games, but apparently it's adequate), and the battery is excellent. It's also light. On the downside, the rear does feel a bit plasticky and cheap. But everything is well put together.Bluetooth is onboard, but there's also a headphone jack. The 2mp cameras are ok -- functional, but hardly essential. All media, from music to movies (Netflix, Prime Video) all play silky smooth. And you can upgrade to more memory via the SD slot. The interface is essentially geared toward Prime Customers. And it's all very well laid out and exceptionally convenient. If you're not a Prime member, I'd recommend you avoid this tablet. Even without 'special offers', all things Amazon can be pretty difficult to swallow. Of course, if you install Google's Play store, you can pretty much change the entire layout and bury all that Amazon stuff away. I've personally left everything as is, because I'm happy with the Amazon eco-structure/Google Play service co-existence.I got this on Cyber Monday for only £95 - £105 after unsubbing from the offers. After installing the Play store, it kind of feels like you've mugged someone, getting so much performance for so little cost. Amazon really should think about opening up to the Google Play store by default. Not having access to Google's store is what puts so many people off (myself, a Prime member, included). As a side note, I've noticed the version without ads is unavailable until after Xmas, and even then it's only available in default black; however, you don't have to wait. Simply order one in any color you choose with 'special offers' and then, upon recieving it, go to your account and unsubscribe from 'special offers' for your tablet (you can do this from the tablet itself, or from the Amazon site). You will promptly be charged the difference it costs for the 'without special offers' tablet (about £10). The ads will immediately be removed and you'll essentially have the 'without offers' tablet in the color of your choice, no waiting.

I already own a Paperwhite and my daughter & husband own the Fire 7. I was looking for something for a few particular reasons.1) I wanted to sync my reading with my paperwhite of all ebooks/netgalleys and documents.2) I wanted to be able to view Amazon Tv via the kindle (unable to do so on the paperwhite). The screen quality is absolutely brilliant. I am currently engrossed in The Man In The High Castle, the quality enhances the viewing.3) I wanted to be able to access Amazon music (unable to do on paperwhite).4) I wanted to be able to use hands-free (see my reviews of my Fire cover and frame under my profile).5) I wanted to combine kindle & audible. I also wanted to utilise whipsync.6)I wanted to be able to add a Bluetooth keyboard and use for writing or typing if necessary. I actually found covers/keyboards combined and this lead to me buying an additional Fire 10.1 just days after for my daughter who is studying her A levels. You can access word via the app store. attach a keyboard (or just built-in one) and go.After all, why pay for all these Amazon services and not get the most of them.I really feel that this option gives the maximum benefits to the kindle user. Please note this kindle is NOT waterproof. for use in the bath, I would simply play audible via the speakers and have the table on a shelf in the bathroom (away from water). To view Amazon Tv whilst in the bath I would attach the frame ( see my profile for my other reviews of kindle cover and kindle frame) place it away from the water itself and just make sure I have my glasses.I would most definitely be the first in the queue for a waterproof one.Since purchasing this kindle I have bought over 24+ ebooks/audibles in anticipation of usage.Brilliant for people with disabilities. Ideal for tech-savvy students for easy of use. reliable battery life. You also have the ability to download episodes from Amazon TV and take with you if you are going to have limited access to wi-fi. say for example a brief stay in hospital.I really cannot stress the brilliance of this Kindle and i was very torn between this and the Oasis. But the Fire 10.1 won my heart. 5*

I was in the market for a new tablet as my old iPad had more or less given up the ghost.I only really use the tablet for web browsing, netflix , Prime video and social media so didn't really want to fork out £350+ for a new ipad. Up to now though had always been put off Fire HD due to limited app store, however did some research on internet and found that it is a relatively simple process to get google playstore onto newest Fire HDs so when I saw the Black Friday offer for the new HD10 £95 - thought I would take the plunge...And boy, am I glad I did - for the money you will not get a better tablet. Is it the best tablet out there - definitely not, is it a gorgeous piece of kit - nope, but if you want value for money and solid performance and your user needs are similar to mine you won't go wrong.ProsCost (even at full price it's well worth it, at Black Friday price it's a no brainer)Well built - very solidScreen - excellent for cost of product (not iPad quality but they cost 3-4 times as much)Battery - seems to last forever.Google play store - I'm no techie, but easy to load so you have access to all usual Android apps (and all the ones I've downloadeded work flawlessly) - search for Android Police article on how to sideload, very easy to follow step by step guide.ConsFairly plain looking piece of kitNot many apps in Amazon store - but see above for details how to improve thisCharging - takes a long time to fully charge. Apparently there is a more powerful charger that will cut charging time by approx 25% but you have to purchase this separately.Games - doesn't bother me but I'm not sure the processor will be powerful enough for the more graphic intensive games (if that's your thing I'd look at iPad or high end Android tablet)Overall, as you can see, I'm delighted so far with this purchase - I'll revisit this review over coming months to update with any issues etc and longer term perspective.Update 7/7/2020Had this for 7-8 months now and stand by everything I said in my original review. Tablet still going strong and remains excellent value for money even at full price and meets all my needs.

The feeling in the hand is very pleasant it has a nice material. the screen is big enough!! for watching netflix and news etc is perfect. I feel though that the proportions of screen and text are a bit unaesthetic/ and I get eye strain a bit if the background is white and text is black. Maybe is because Im used with ipad light and the way Ipad arranges the margins/spaces of text on the page.Cons:I see that the headphone jack is not working if I want to use wire. (Many reviews said here it has problems connecting with bluetooth as well but I think what people needs to do is to put headphone is pairing mode and then connect with headphones if this is the first time you want to connect it with fire tablet.otherwise the device wont see your headphones).I like how you swipe up to open the “desktop” but the lock screen is always full of Amazon products that you can buy from books to foolish cartoon ads which is annoying a bit.Photos: you dont wanna do photos with that. i mean quality photos. maybe you would as a reference for something but not for entertainment. The light from the screen is a bit too bright. I feel Ipad is much more gentle without loosing from brightness. When playing candy crush for example when it shows the map, you can see the pixels on the contours of the drawings, probably because the scale is not right for the screen or most probably the screen is not so performant. But thats for the map not the game, when I play it is looks as smooth as can be.But movies and youtube etc everything looks absolutely perfect 1080/full hd as you want !I love listening with the speakers to music. I feel apple is modifying sone aspects of sound to sound more appealing but I found, when listening with this, is more accurate of whats been recorded, no fakery. The drawbacks are not really important and nobody will cry over them and are much surpassed by all the good things and it has very good price if you dont need/afford a very expensive tablet.

I received my Fire HD 10 Kindle as a Christmas gift having dropped my iPad i damaged it quite badly & i didn’t want to pay the large sum of money to replace or fix - so I asked Santa for a kindle & he delivered ??I mostly use my Kindle for streaming, watching Netflix ,reading books and web browsing (shopping!!)- I am impressed with it!Yes, its built to heavily promote Amazon products but I don’t have a problem with that as I have been an amazon prime member for while now anyway - only using it to get same day delivery but now I can reap the other benefits such as kindle unlimited etc - loving the audible books at the moment!Although I only use my Kindle for entertainment/leisure - mouse & keyboard can easily be hooked up via Bluetooth making it easily transferable to office/ admin work.Connects with Alexa - voice activation with ease so makes it easy to listen to music or call or message contacts in your Alexa list. Or like me check your ring doorbell statuses.Comes with USB charger & Plug & battery definitely lasts 12 hours as specified. The only downside to this device is the camera - to me it’s not a big deal as don’t use it to take pictures - the picture quality for the camera is bad - very grainy and unclear - unlike IPad - but if you don’t use your device to take pictures then like I said it’s no big deal. However picture wise for streaming/video quality is perfect! - very clear and the sound is very good. For me this device is great if your looking for something just for leisure use- one word of advice I would give is pick your Amazon package with care as there are a few - for me Prime works out the best deal but everyone is different.Kindle works very differently from iPad so I would definitely recommend downloading the “how to use your Kindle” guide book and looking up on YouTube on how to use your kindle. All in all I can honestly say this is a fab device and good value for money.

I ordered this twice from Very - the first one was a possible customer return (damaged box, and slight smear marks on screen) - but Very quickly put that right with free delivery on the next (brand new unopened) one.It is my first tablet - so I can't compare it to others. The screen is beautiful - very vivid colours. So get a screen protector or a case for this ASAP.It is fairly light to hold in the hands - although much heavier than my 6.7" Android phone. However in terms of display size - Netflix is MUCH easier to see on this versus the 6+ inch phone screen. It's also very thin - not ultra thin, but enough to not make it a burden to hold.Only a couple of niggles -1)No built-in "Google Play store" - but plenty of videos on Youtube to show you how to install that, which makes all the difference (yes, it worked for me...)2) The Android operating system seems somewhat less flexible than those on phones, as (for example) you can't swap around the positions of the "back" and "show open apps" soft buttons.3) There doesn't seem to be a "charging" LED - slightly annoying, as you have to press the "Power" button to see what percentage your battery is at when charging.4) The power button is right next to the USB charging port - and if you have a USB cable in there, the power button becomes difficult to push.Bonus points -5) The USB charger goes in the TOP of the tablet - so doesn't get in the way of your stomach if you are resting the tablet in portrait mode on it.6) Very easy to insert a Micro SD card, compared to modern phones - no "pin" needed to open the little flap - and the Tablet formats the card correctly for you.Overall -A fantastic tablet - I have separately ordered a Bluetooth Trackpad keyboard for it, with a case - to protect it / make it like a mini Laptop.

I'm loving the battery life on this. It sits on the table next to my chair & can go for days without being used but a quick press of the power button and it's there - saves draining my mobile when I want to surf the web. What I'm not over keen on is the heavy lean towards all things Amazon - specifically books. This would be a great gadget for book lovers to download and read the odd library but I'm not a great reader. If I can work out a way to compress all that stuff into an icon on the desktop, that'd be great. There also seems to be some stuff on there that'd be great for children, it's just a shame that Amazon think we want all these things pre-loaded, I'd be happy with the simplest of desktops /home screens - maybe it can be done, trouble is, whilst I'm using the tablet, all this stuff is out of my head! It's for these reasons, really, that I dropped a star on "easy to use".When I saw this advertised, they talked about the great quality of the screen & fast processor etc, they even showed a film on the screen then switched to their doorbell's camera, maybe I'll figure all that out later on. I do love Alexa, I used the timer feature to keep track of the Christmas meal cooking times - so easy "Alexa, set turkey timer for 3 hours", Alexa, set stuffing timer for 1 hour" "Alexa, set veg timer for half an hour". I had umpteen timers running simultaneously & I could use my voice to dismiss each one as it went off.Of course, the downside of this great tech is that bleeding advert where the old boy tells Alexa to play Valerie, as soon as he says "Alexa", my machine wakes up & plays Valerie.A fantastic little tablet which is even better if you can get it for the right price (mine was on offer on a shopping channel, I even got 5% off as a new customer plus a free, customisable, case PLUS 3 interest-free payments - result)

I ordered a 64gb without special offers. Its a slim tablet with an impressively big screen and an excellent battery life.. Its very easy to use, and navigation/ scrolling is very smooth. The screen is bright and sharp, There's a slot for a micro SD so you could buy the 32gb version and just use the slot- probably slightly cheaper than buying the 64gb version. Don't be phased by the idea you can't have google services- you can. it's 10 - 15 minutes work and quite straightforward. Many Android sites on the internet will take you through it step by step. You have to 'sideload' 5 apk files in order, downloading from sites through the silk browser (Amazons own rather good web browser)..That means you download the first file. Install it. Then move on to the next- download and install' and so on. The fifth file is Google Playstore and once this is on your system you can access it and easily install gmail, maps and any other google app. The only slightly complicated bit is at the start you have to enable downloads from unknown sources in settings- you'll find a list of apps that don't allow downloads and choose 'allow' for the silk browser.I find that the first two 'tabs' then become the most useful. The first tab has the time weather and recently used apps, like a lot of home screens on android devices. The second tab has all your apps including the google ones. The other tabs are divided into music, books, videos etc and if like me you buy kindle books and are on Amazon Prime they are useful too, if a little blatantly promotional for Amazon. Overall the HD 10 provides awesome hardware for your money and a comfortable Android tablet experience that I suspect you would otherwise be paying twice the price for.

I had one of the original Fire tablets many years ago, a 7" if I recall correctly and over time it was dropped from support . That was a good tablet although by today's standards was a tad big for the screen size and heavy but it worked and sounded well. More recently I took the plunge for the Fire 8" HD with the show stand and that was also pretty good, lighter, faster and with an arguably better screen than the original. Sometimes it was a tad slower to react when app switching but still more than good good enough for me and still is.I wanted a larger screen for a new tablet and for the things I use a tablet for the Fire series does the job. The new 10" HD is a leap ahead and speed though in daily use you may not really notice it.It now has the newer USB-C connector so I'm not sure if it will work with a show dock unless a new version is released, If I recall correctly the previous version was micro USB. If its anything like my Fire 8" HD show dock I'm not sure an adaptor would fit. I can't be sure as I do not have the 10" dock.Watching a movie is good as is the sound (for a tablet) id good and once again the speakers are on the left and right in landscape mode, something that irritated me with my Samsung table some years older. In summary, you no longer need to spend a fortune for a decent 10" tablet these days, if as I do all you do is brows the web, read books, check news and film data and (cough) from time to time browse and place an order with Amazon it's a bargain. If you want the full Android app availability this may not be for you although the Fire support has grown significantly over the years.I purchased the Amazon case at the same time and the fit is perfect.

Firstly I am very IT savvy and yet it still took a while to side load google as I need access to the mobile microsoft office356 when out of the country. For normal users this will be harder than expected. Most apps other than via amazon are blocked from this tablet. The balance to that is that this was never meant to be a laptop or a full android tablet but was made as a loss-leader to encourage the sale of amazon products and services and with this in mind it's an excellent bit of kit for the price. I got it in a sale and paid less than 120 quid with ads taken OFF. It comes loaded with the Silk browser and also with a version of maps as well as loads of amazon quick access apps. You cannot delete a pre-loaded app but can hide them by pressing down on the icon on home screen and then creating a folder you can name yourself. Then just drag and drop icons you wont use into this folder. Icons are annoying as they wont let you put in alpha order but I renamed mine 1,2,3 etc to make them stay in place on the home screen. The camera is worse than pants but I didn't buy it for that, I bought it to take on holiday where I will be mainly using Amazon Prime and the reading and audible apps. I will be downloading movies and box sets in advance as I have added a huge memory card into this tablet.Very good tablet for normal users as long as you are using full Amazon packages.Battery life is good and the screen is very bright. Sound is surprisingly good. Battery charged to full in less than an hour from 28%Overall I'm very happy with this and now google are trialing sending of texts via main login screen then I might not even take my mobile on holiday.

I bought the Fire HD 10 to replace my ageing ipad 2 that was lagging and showing it`s age.I cannot afford another ipad at present so after reading and watching many reviews I went for the Fire HD 10. I am really glad I did . The quality of this tablet for the money is very good, no it is not in the same league as the ipads, but it is also not in the same price range. I use it for web browsing , Facebook, Youtube , email etc all the things I do on my desktop without having to use my desktop constantly. Watching videos on Youtube really shows the quality of the Fire HD`s playback , they look stunning. For all those that have said it is an advertising tablet for Amazon, duh ,first of all do not buy it with the ads buy the ad free version secondly of course Amazon are going to use their products and services on their tablet just as Apple use ios and push their own services. I really don`t find that to be an issue and apparently there are ways around the Fire inbuilt apps. As with most systems that you are not use to, navigating the menu is all new but as with my ipad it will become second nature with use. I do wish the navbar could be hidden out of view with just a tap of the screen but I can find no other real issues with this tablet. For the general user who has a desktop computer but doesn`t want or need to have to go to it all the time this tablet does a great job. It is fast , has a very good screen and is very usable out of the box. I do not know what battery life is like as I have yet to let it run down and check it . I am happy with my purchase it fulfils my needs for general web surfing etc and I would buy it again.

I needed something better than the HD 8 that could actually cope with basic apps and games without melting. I don't play PUBG type games so can't comment on ability to play those games. The first thing I noticed was the the screen clarity and it surprised me - it's not iPad Pro quality but you wouldn't be looking at a £150 tablet if you wanted iPad Pro quality. The screen colours are balanced, and just about perfect really. YouTube is clear with hardly any distortion, unlike the HD 8. Netflix and Prime streaming is also sharp and clear (enough for me anyway - and I'm the type to hate standard definition TV!) with the blacks actually black unlike the overlapping shades of grey on the HD 8.This tablet only has minimal RAM so don't expect to be switching between apps like some mythological tablet dark elf. But it copes with moderate usage. One or two games I play (Fallout Shelter) uses all available RAM so all background apps will need to reload, and subsequently Shelter will restart if you switch to another app mid-grind. But, surfing the net is quick and sites load fast. Non-native email, weather, news, fast food and social media apps open quickly. Except Facebook which struggles to cope on anything, but in comparison to the HD 8, the 10 is lightning quick. I compared this tablet to my partner's well used iPad Air 2 and this one is quicker. The screen clarity isn't far off either. She jealous, so I'm chuffed. Overall, for £150, this tablet is a steal and does everything I need it to. Google how to side load Play Store and if you do it right you won't have any problems getting apps you can't get on Amazon app store.
