I write this review as someone who appreciates Apple products and their ecosystem, but who also owns Android and Amazon based products too so I hope this is a balanced and considered review. In this household there are currently two iPhones (6S), Apple Watch 3, Apple TV and an iPad Air 2 alongside a Motorola Moto G (work mobile) and an Amazon Fire 8. I’m also tech-support for my entire extended family across a whole range of devices so I’m familiar with competing devices. Our iPad Air 2 is several years old now, but still in regular service. It’s my wife’s and I rarely used it up until recently, favouring my laptop if I wanted to do something I couldn’t on my iPhone. However, the last few months saw me spending more time on it, enjoying the extra screen space and versatility so I decided I’d look into getting a tablet for myself.Perhaps foolishly, we bought an Amazon Fire 8 tablet in the Black Friday deals as it was really cheap for a tablet. Yes, for the £50 we paid it’s an operational tablet. Fine as an introduction to tablet use, and great enough for watching Prime and YouTube content. But, it’s hugely limited, feels cheap and you’re compelled into watching adverts to subsidise the cost. I’ve also spent a lot of time using my step-mum’s Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 tablet, which while far superior to the Fire, it’s still a long way short of even an aging iPad.I began seriously considering buying an iPad Pro. For the ones I was looking at you’re pushing the £1k mark, which is a huge amount. The specs are fantastic, and as an amateur photo editor and creative sort I liked the idea of the Apple Pencil compatibility. Fortunately, just as I was beginning to accept the massive kick in the wallet, Apple announced the arrival of a new generation of iPad Air (oddly not called the Air 3), alongside a new iPad Mini too. Doing a little bit of research and reading trade reviews the new Air ticked almost all of the boxes I was looking for, for practically half the price. If you’re looking at this review, you may be asking what is the iPad Air and where does it fit into Apple’s current range? The flagship models are the iPad Pros, then standard iPads and then the iPad Minis. Confusingly, the iPad Minis latest iPad Mini is more powerful and more expensive than the standard iPad, but smaller. Until recently, there was a huge difference in performance between the Pro and the iPad, which is where the Air comes in. It fills that gap by having much of the power and ability of the Pro, but Apple have kept a bit of a leash on it to prevent too many potential Pro buyers spending less money.Apple have basically repackaged a previous generation of Pro tablet (the 10.5”), and given it a bump up in processor speed. The screen is better than the iPad, but not quite as good as the Pros. It has only two speakers compared to the four on the Pros. It also has support for the Apple Pencil, but only generation 1. The 2nd generation has been reserved solely for the Pro. That said, the 1st generation pencil is still very good, and cheaper. The Air also gets the smart keyboard connectivity of the Pros, which is a big plus if you’re planning on typing a lot.In use though, what is it like? Well, at the time of writing the Air had only been on sale for one week, and I’ve had mine for a few days. I love it. Visually, it looks very similar to the older Air 2. It’s not even much bigger in the size. The size in the pictures I’ve attached with this review are perhaps skewed by the slightly larger case I have it in. But it’s much quicker. And it feels so much nicer to use and navigate with than any other tablet I’ve used. Not just slightly, but a lot. The Apple operating system is so much slicker than Android, and that really is coming from someone who uses both a lot. Productivity on an iPad is a possibility, not just a pipe dream. There are so many great apps available, and Microsoft Office and Adobe suites are on the App Store if you want them. There’s so much you can do on a tablet, beyond watching TV and movies and playing games (which play incredibly well). My iPhone, formally welded to my hand, has barely been touched since I opened the Air up.If you already operate within the Apple ecosystem then the Air fits right in. Photos and notes sync seamlessly. What size of iPad you go for, 64GB or 256GB, will depend on what else you have. If you don’t have other Apple products then you will soon fill 64GB very quickly. If you have an iPhone with decent storage, and especially if you have an iCloud account, it’s more than possible to live with 64GB. I have a 2TB iCloud account which has more than enough space to be shared across all of our Apple devices. There is a lot to be said about finding a refurbished iPad Pro which will give you the Pro features missing on the Air, but if you’re more comfortable buying a new product then the new Air offers exceptional value. In the real world it offers the vast majority of the functionality most of us are going to need, fantastic performance, and all for a lot less money than the Pro. It really does offer exceptional value. As a further recommendation I would advise a decent folding case to protect the screen and provide a stand, and if you’re a creative type then the Apple Pencil is a winner all the way.

I love my new iPad, it has been a joy, and has become a big part of my workflow and working day.Don't get me wrong, despite what Apple tells you, most people who use tech for working cannot replace their PC with an iPad, that is just nonsense, there are too many limiting factors. In my world, it fits in very nicely in places where I would generally get my laptop out for things like short emails, quick browsing, messaging, access to all your online storage points, document viewing, making small mods on documents and similar stuff. It is excellent for showing other folks such mods and documents when in a meeting too, as you just pass it around the room. There are a few super bonuses too, like being able to write and make notes on stuff, you need a pen of course, but this was something I wanted from my iPad so bought one at the same time. You can also get all kinds of wonderfully crafted apps such as the new AR Apps, which work magnificently on these iPads. The screen is superb too, so watching a video and viewing images is top-notch. The only negative is that it has only two speakers and not four, though the sound is rather good even with just two.Overall it can take a bit of work to get the best from it, such as with the pen work, which is super, by the way, learning how to use the new features such as using a mouse, and a few other things, all of which are awesome if a bit quirky at first. It is a fantastic bit of kit that has made significant strides towards being more work-oriented, and with a keyboard and mouse/pen, it really can fill a lot of spaces in your digital life. For me, it bridges a gap between my main PC, from where I do most of my work that requires a lot of input and screen space and having to take my laptop out or even take it along to meetings and gatherings and on top of that, I get a decent iPad without the Pro price.Well worth considering.

I have been using a first generation Air for about six years now, and it has been getting oh so slow. Not only that, but the battery wasn’t always lasting a day - but I did use it a lot. It only accepted OS 12 and not the new 13, so I decided it was time. Amazon was about £30 cheaper than Apple Store, which was helpful. The Daily Mail application would take about 30 seconds to load. This third generation 2019 is blisteringly fast. The Daily Mail loads in two seconds, so that shows you the difference.Everything else is much the same, although it’s a tad bigger up from 9.7” to 10.5”, not a big difference. The screen seems clearer and brighter, the battery lasts two to three days.I kept a screen protector on the old iPad Air and sold it in the local phone/tablet shop for £70, which is a bit of a result! Having a flawless screen after 6 years was definitely and advantage.I couldn’t manage our lives hear without the wealth of apps that help with just about everything financially, for shopping, time management, emails, internet, the list goes on.

Bought for my wife for her birthday. She's setting it up as I type. It certainly looks most impressive, but if, like me, you thought that the inclusion of an Apple pencil on the Technical Details screen along with everything you get in the box means you will find an Appple pencil in the box, you're wrong. No it doesn't sat "not included" or add words such as "compatible with". Spoke to customer service who argued that it was not included and didn't say it was, and eventually got a manager to the phone, but |I'd been on so long listening to tedious music, the he was cut off after about three words. One other point, the difficulty in getting help from Amazon was ridiculously time consuming. Will update this review when I've calmed down and my wife has used the pad for a time.

Expensive but the saying goes "you get what you pay for". Excellent update to the ipad Air range (I had an iPad Air 2 for 4 years prior to this improved updated version). The iPad Air 3 is a good size screen, easy to use and keep uptodate. Wifi experience is faultless and battery life is great too. Colour representation of photos and video to my aging eyes are all crystal clear and true to colour. After several months use now I have no hesitation in recommending the extra expense of replacing or upgrading older iPads is well worth it (managed to sell my old one for £100 toward the cost too which to me isn't bad for a four year old machine!).

It's not very often I write a 5 star review, but this iPad is fantastic and my favourite since the iPad Air 2.I loved my old iPad Air 2 and moved to the 2018 iPad which for me was a step down. I missed the laminated screen. This iPad has brought back the laminated screen and feels like a massive upgrade from the iPad Air 2 and the iPad of 2018. The extra screen space is a welcome addition and of course the A12 chip makes opening apps almost instant.Yes the iPad pros are more powerful and have the extra features/speakers etc, but I would highly recommend this one for general daily use.Well done Apple!

This is a brilliant iPad a bit bigger and a lot faster that my old one but that is down to Apple putting data in the updates that checks how old yours is and then starts to slow it down and make problems with your app’s. This one is now on 13.3 IOS and that’s where it’s staying. I updated my old one for the first time in three years for an app I needed and soon after the battery would not last more than 15 minutes then images on google would not show up then my game from App Store kept going off. I know this new 2019 one will do the same in a few years so I’m not updating this time.

I have a quite few apple products, and the Ipad Air 3rd gen is probably the best of all of them. I paid extra for the air 3 over the standard ipad for the better quality, laminated screen with wide colour and touch tone and the display honestly is stunning. Very smooth and snappy with the powerful 6 core A12 chip. Gestures with ipad OS feel very fluid and natural. As a prime member i can now access content on kindle for free e.g marvel comics and novels for which there is a good selection. Now with the current lockdowns due covid 19 i have something to pass the time with!

Apple definitely make the best tablets, and the IPad Air 3 is definitely the best in the standard IPad range (IPad, IPad Mini, and IPad Air). The only better alternative would be the IPad Pro, which costs a lot more as serves a different purpose, to compete with Laptops and computers. The IPad Air is the best tablet on today’s market. It has a luxurious design, great battery life, brilliant size screen, etc. Might be a bit on the pricey side, but it’s definitely worth the extra money for the bigger screen, faster processor and lightweight design.

What can I say, after a terrible experience with the Samsung S5e, I ordered what I should have ordered in the first place. Non reflective display, no light bleed, awesome ecosystem, regular updates, that’s what Apple offers; you want everything but that, choose every other company. So far so good, big difference compared to the Samsung! The only minus would be the sound, the 4 speakers on the Samsung tab S5e are better than the iPad Air’s speakers, other than that, everything is an upgrade. All in all, a great tablet at a decent price!

I love this Ipad. I'm autistic and am not exactly great with technology but this was SO easy to set up and use, and when i had no idea what to do...i just asked Siri. Found a good range of apps for not only fun and games but to help me manage my anxiety, so this Ipad is a good tool for me, for managing my mental health. The graphics are exquisite. And everything happens so quickly and efficitently. Love the fingerprint scanner too. Really helpful when i can't usually remember passcodes to unlock. Would definitely recommend this Ipad.

This is an excellent tablet for all general uses. The photo handling and picture quality display is particularly good and provides the easiest way to store and view photos and videos. Bluetooth linking to an iPhone is also impressive. I upgraded to this iPad from an old iPad and found the procedure straightforward using iCloud backup. I also like the speed of operation and overall display quality. The iPad uses the new lightning connector which meant the photo card reader that I used with my old iPad needed to be replaced.

I bought this for my 78 year old husband to replace an IPad that I purchased him some 10 years ago, that still works, but would not update from version 9. Something, to 13. Something, which I needed to download some things. He downloads his newspaper every day to read, which is especially good when we are on holiday abroad. The new one is obviously much better and quicker to download, the only thing he has trouble with is there is no button to lock the screen either landscape or portrait, which he find annoying.

It is the first ipad that I buy and I am very happy. I had other brands but it has no comparison with this one. My intention was to use it for drawing but now I use it for everything. The battery life is long, I have been using it for 3 days in a row most of the day. Design thin and light. The size of the screen is perfect if you are looking to draw, but you'll need the apple pencil (which I also bought). I bought it online and the next day I already had it. relation quality price is perfect!

This ipad is very useful for my studies as i am able to multi task on a large screen. I can also read a lot of books linked to my course with ease so it is an absolute essential to have if you are a student because it is convenient so i recommend this purchase if you are looking for an electronic device for your studies. I would also recommend this over a laptop because it is cheaper compared to good other laptops. You will need a keyboard which you can buy. Watch reviews to get more info.
