So I did a lot of research in soundbars as there are literally thousands out there and I didn't want to spend a fortune and I think I've hit the nail on the head.As for setting up - dead easy.. all you need is an HDMI.. if you don't have an HDMI handy you can go optical (but I would recommend HDMI for ease of use and sound). Just plug it in VIA HDMI ARC to the TV and to the HDMI ARC port in the bar and you are pretty much good to go, you can use your own telle remote for volume or the Yamaha one which has a few handy features on it. Or which I love most cause we all have our phones on us you can hook the bar up to WiFi it will do a quick update for Alexa features then you can use the Yamaha companion app which works great..I've used Sonos many a time and it's pretty identical.Looks - nothing groundbreaking here which I like very simple matte finish on the bar , and the woofer looks very slick with a matte finish and a glossy piano black around the woofer hole. Only thing which would of been a cherry on top is maybe a little LED screen telling you what setting you are on when you are using the remote. But the LED'S or the app will tell you.Sound - I'm a sound engineer and have used plenty of speakers and bars ..I've used the Sonos Bar and I would say its better due to the clear voice mode which is incredible and the fact there is a sub. (I know you can buy a sub separate on the Sonos but it comes in at a hefty price). I find I'm hearing sounds in games and movies I have never heard before it's truly great . I wasn't looking for something that will blow my face off I was looking for clarity and that's what I get. Don't get me wrong though it can pack a punch. And the 3D surround sound mode does make a slight difference maybe not as amazing as some others but you do notice it for sure. But the most impressive thing is this "clear voice" mode.. I find it amazing. Don't need to have the volume up loud and I can hear it so clear as if someone is in the room.Overall - I never thought it would be a Yamaha bar I would purchase as I was looking at Sonos, LG, Sony or Samsung .. but I'm really happy with what I have purchased. Mine came from Peterson's Online .. great delivery especially during tough times right now with this virus so that was a plus.Highly recommend. Thanks

I ordered from TVA Tech at Amazon and the soundbar arrived in Guernsey a day or so laterI have had other Yamaha bars going back 10 years - the most recent a YSP 600, i got the 109 as I already have a Yamaha subwoofer and the 109 has a RCA socketThe YAP took about 30 mins to unpack and after removing the old bar, connect and get started.I was a bit concerned as there is only one tv input jack (optical) and one HDMI in.Set up so far excellent and sound very good - I like the separate Subwoofer controlThen I hit a problem - could'nt get it to speak to my wifi (got the firmware update using a USB) but could not get it to lock onto my wifiBy late afternoon after a couple of hours I gave up.The unitworked fine but no Alexa & no access to my mobile musicI emailed TVA Tech and got a quick reply and a few hints (there are several Yamaha apps but even the correct one took me in circles)Ken at TVA got in touch with Yamaha customer services overnight and this morning i got email detailsPhoned yamaha and a fellow named Steve was very helpfulSetting up was not without its problems (I live in an isolate cottage and never needed a secure wifi and the Yamaha App was resistant to no password)But got on lineThanks to Ken and SteveAlexa works well on it but needs to learn my accent! My living room is quite low with beams and lots of furniture and about 30ft long and the YAS is at one end and facing the narrow bit but the 3D fills the spacesI tested it with Tom Petty American Girl at max volume and 50% bass - pleased my neighbours are fewTried Clear Sound on muddy noir film and it does bring forward vocal so I look forward to using it on mumbling dramaaGreat sounds, simple to use (eventually) recommendedPeter PannettGuernsey

I bought a new 65' 4K TV and basically wanted to upgrade the sound. I already had the Philips HTL5106 which I had had for quite a few years, It is pants. I hardly ever used it because it was just poor.Did a bit of research to try and get something decent for my budget and came across the YAS 207 which sounded brilliant, was going to buy and then read about the crossover issues, came across the newer YAS 209 which is basically the same but has improved specs. Now has Alexa (which I'm not too bothered about) but also has improved design, improved subwoofer and bass, also no known crossover issues. I bought it and I am glad I did. I connected it to TV, turned it on and WOW! What a difference. The sound is full, rich and has real depth. The soundstage is excellent. The bass is very, very good with the 3D surround employed. The clear voice function is brilliant. Yes there are better out there but for £300 this is a steal, not got £700 at the moment to get the next best and for the money this is the best bang for your buck. The build quality is excellent, very non descript looking but then I do not want a hundred flashing lights underneath my telly, I want something subtle that blends in. The remote is very basic but does everything that is required. the subwoofer is tall but not too wide. Perfect. The volume is not mega loud as it is only 200w including the sub, but I don't want loud, I want quality and clarity. This fits the bill. Does manage to shock and hit me round the head with the bass on occasions. It is well worth the money. Buy it.

Did a lot of research on this. Wanted just a bar with HDMI arc and also built in subwoofers instead of having to have an external subwoofer box. This fit the bill with the option to also add an external one in the future. Bluetooth & Alexa is a nice thing too - did notice when I told alexa to stop playiong on the soundbar it ignored me, not sure if it's a fault but not a dealbreaker for me. As my TV sits on a "shelf" the bar was mounted to the wall above it and the sound was fine via HDMI and no delay when watching TX or netflix\Amazon. Definately a big improvement over the TV speakers and am overall happy with TV speech being a lot clearer now. Only thing annoying was the back design of this bar was clearly made for under a TV.Once it is mounted there no channel behind the bar to feed the wires downwards. You have to feed them upwards and around the box to go downwards (which you can hide along the top edge fairly well). At some point I may solve this properly with a wooden fixture to the wall with spacing for wiring and fix the bar to it, but for now the look is not that bad)

This is a great soundbar if you, like me, spend about 95% of your time watching TV programs where the volume does not need to be turned up to 11. The clear voice functionality helps in this regard. Alexa, again to me, is a nice feature to have as i have several linked IoT devices whereby I can now easily control my heating and lighting. The microphones provide good sensitivity and do not struggle to hear my commands. For the remaining 5% of the time spent watching TV, this soundbar is surprisingly capable of offering a decent soundstage to bring that smile to your face. It is not the loudest or has the bass that you can feel through your body like some can. However,it provides an ample amount of oomph given that this soundbar is midrange. The subwoofer is good in my opinion. However, as we spend most of our time with TV programs as opposed to watching movies, it is dialled down. I am glad i did not spend more on a soundbar which i was prepared to do.

Sounds very good most of the time. I've watched a film, played on the PS4, played some music from my phone and watched a couple of tv shows so far. The sound is great - especially when playing music. The subwoofer is the difference, you get to hear so much bass that the TV speakers wouldn't have a chance with. Definitely recommend getting the subwoofer and not just an all in one soundbar! The clear voice also does seems to help make dialog a bit clearer. Would have been great to have a dedicated centre channel though! If I'm nitpicking, it's a tad muffled sounding occasionally - I was playing uncharted 2 on the PS4 and for some reason the gun sounds were muffled unless I put on the 3d surround effect.Odd. Maybe I need to play round with the settings a bit more. For the price, it's a good buy. Looks very smart in front of the TV too.

This review is for the YAS-109 which needs saying as a lot of reviews here are obviously for the YAS-209 with a separate sub-woofer. Amazon seems to muddle the types for products from time to timeThe controllability and setup worked fine. I have an older TV so using optical plus an HDMI cable from the soundbar output to a TV in port. This seems to start and switch off the bar with the TV. I have not used the remote through the TV. Lots of setup like dynamic range possible and sub woofer control is useful when you get a cinema rocking boom base in a film.Finding the need to rewind and sub-title much less now and trying to listen to actors mumbling to each other in polite realistic conversationin BBC dramas as though we are eavesdropping in the current fashion may not be so much of a problem now.

Bought to replace a Sony bar and sub woofer set up - never liked having a sub woofer as a separate box, and also wanted to have the addition of Alexa capability. This is a very good value speaker, sound is very good without the sub-woofer box and there is more than enough bass available from this speaker. The set up was a bit of a faff; finding the right app on the app store and then linking to wireless, but it eventually worked. You can control the sound settings from the app, the Alexa function works well using voice control, and it linked up well with my television.

Mine crashed after a month or so. Sent it back.but I must say sound quality is very nice. overall.deep bass, nice full middle range and sounding highs.must admit that listening to music is the best thing here. tv sound might be strange due to various settings, but you can find your perfect one for each program or movie you are watching.and if sound quality isn't good enough don't blame it on soundbar straight away. look at your sound signal / source at first and check that . because soundbar is sounding real nice.

The Yamaha YAS-209 Sound Bar with subwoofer certainly improves the TV sound especially with subwoofer thumping out bass and action film sounds. I had some difficulty setting it up, but with the help of a phone call through Amazon to Yamaha and a very helpful technician, the difficulty was solved. A matter of putting the sound bar HDMI plug in the correct TV socket. I am know enjoying full surround sound of good quality.

Great sound for the price, especially good for music, you won't need a subwoofer with this as it's loud enough for my lounge and won't annoy the neighbours as much. Has Alexa built-in which is handy. Much better than the Sony xt8500. You won't go wrong with this. Marked it down on remote but all remotes are crap but it's much better using the app on your phone to control. Overall pretty pleased with this soundbar.

14.9.2019

Sound can be good but often dialogue sounds as though it's in a large room. Sound surround is quite limited in my opinion but the bar was partly selected by size to fit under my Samsung TV. Many sound bars are just too big and block the remote control sensor.Hasn't quite lived up to my expectations based on reviews of it's predecessor the 107.

25.2.2020

Connected to Sky Q box and 4k tv via hdmi ARC, sound is a massive improvement over the tv speakers.Alexa is a nice touch and very handy as I have several smart devices which the soundbar can now control. The subwoofer connected straight out of the box and adds to the atmosphere.Overall a great bit of kit.

The YAS-209 won't give you THX theater surround sound, but you can't beat it for the price. The external sub gives it a pretty good full range, and it sounds good for TV, movies, and music. The seller delivered it a day sooner than I expected which was also a nice surprice! I'm happy. :-)

Great cinematic sound - real depth to the bass. Even at low volume, the sound feels big - which is great when you've got a baby that wakes up easily.Best of all is the clear voice function. Really great feature that has taken the frustration out when watching things a little quieter.
