When it comes to console controllers, if you were to mention "power pack" to anyone, most would presume you'd be on about an Xbox controller, that's because it isn't rechargeable by default, whereas the PS3's official controller is already rechargeable... So there's no point in getting this product, right? Well not exactly. This product clearly isn't going to be for everyone, after all the PS3 controller is already rechargeable and you can just plug it in whilst playing (if the cable is long enough), or you may already have a decent charging docking station. But if you don't have either one of the above or are someone who hates cables, then this may be something that would of use to you. It's pretty simple to use, just plug the included mini-USB into the power bank and the other end into an appropriate USB power source such as the PS3 and wait for it to charge, you can tell when it's charged as the LED light turns from red to blue.Once charged, clip the power banks extendible arm onto the underside of the controller and slot in the micro-USB, from here it will automatically start charging up the controller. As for comfort, if you normally use both middle & index fingers for the trigger buttons, then you wont notice anything different apart from the controller having a little extra weight to it. But if you're like me who only uses their index fingers on the triggers & has their middle fingers resting on the back. then you will notice the power bank gets in the way ever so slightly, but it's one of those things you forget about once you get used to it.The product overall isn't a bad one at all, it just seems like it's for a very niche market, the only gripe I have with this product is at the time of writing this review, the price tag is just a bit too high for what it is (£20), which is why I couldn't give it full stars. But the product does do what is advertised on the box, so if you think it would be something that would be of use to you, then it's definitely a product you should consider getting.► Note: I received this product in exchange for an unbiased review.

My initial intentions in obtaining the Power bank was that my son and daughter would have a back-up for their PS3 hand controllers when inevitably they ran out of power (the controllers not my kids). The first thing we noticed about this small and very compact device was that it can be fitted over the controller even if it has a close fitting cover on it, such as those available through Amazon resellers. Once fitted it stays in and most importantly the device is small enough to not interfere with the controls of the controller. The first time we used it was on my daughters handset as the power began to fail and it was plug it in or fit the back-up device; apparently there is no contest as theshort USB wire that acts to charge the handset and provide a wired alternative to connect the handset and the Playstation is too short to be of much use in games play. The Power pack being quickly fitted play continued with only one note from my son (Mr. Techy when it comes to Playstation), namely that the PS controllers charge lights were flashing to acknowledge that it was charging and that therefore the Power pack must actually be charging the handset rather than simply excluding the battery. This later proved to be correct as lazy bones of a daughter did not bother to connect the handset to charge it up and yet found that it had been fully charged by the Power pack. All in all the device works pretty well but I think that it would be even better to have it fully charged and attached to a PS controller which is itself fully charged which I believe would give a much extended duration of play without recharging. However this is only my thinking. On balance the thing is worth the money it costs to purchase and will probably benefit most avid PS fanatics as a battery extender or a back-up source of energy for when the dreaded USB needs to be attached otherwise play will have to be halted.

It might seem strange to have a rechargeable battery for an item that already contains a rechargeable battery itself - but over the last few years I can't say how many times I wish I had had this item! There have been many occasions when at a crucial part of a game, where many hours of play had built up to this point - only to be confronted with the message that the controller was running out of charge. The thing is that the lead to the controller from the PS3 is too short to be used in play and you can't charge while the PS3 is turned off - so the temptation for most people, (especially those who fit in gaming around other life events) is to just pick up the controller and play, without thinking about charging, with the inevitable result. What this device means is that you can play a game at the same time as charging the power bank - so that when your controller runs out - you can fit the power bank and carry on, without having to stop in the middle of a game. It fits very neatly and is quite light, so you don't notice it when in place - it looks exactly like the material and branding of the PS3 controller, so doesn't distract your eye, either. All in all, this is a great product for the lazy gamer, who wants to spend all their time playing - not waiting for your controller to charge. The only thing is - where has this been all the years when I really needed it? Now we have the PS4 and the PS3 is presumably at the end of its life, so I'm not sure how timely this is and hence how useful it can be? But I will certainly use it over the next few months and be glad of it.

I love playing games when I want to relax (or take out the frustrations of the world out on some poor "innocent" AIs instead of real people), but it comes with certain problems. The cable which connects the PS3 to the controller is quite short so playing at a comfortable distance (for me) means using my wireless controller. Unfortunately when I forget to charge my remote I am back to sitting too close to the console and TV playing with my cabled controller while the wifi is recharging on the other port. The bonus is especially good when playing with someone else. I can play using the cabled one and my friend can play using the wifi one. There have been occasions where friends have turned up beforeI have had chance to recharge the controller and there has then been the long wait for the controller to charge before the playing can start and even then the controller may not last too long as the charge isn't anywhere near enough. This little gizmo has already been a great help in allowing play to continue for several hours.Future problems:The duel shock controllers for the PS3 are not compatible with the PS4 and this pack is not compatible either. Yet for those of us who are keeping our PS3s for the games that we love (the PS4 is not currently backwards compatible) then ones of these is probably worth having, especially if you play further away from your machine or you play duel games.

As PS3 owners know the rechargeable controller is a great idea (far better than the battery consumer of the Xbox counterpart). However the problem came when, in the middle of a game, that annoying "low battery" alert would appear on screen. This meant attaching the rather short charging cable to the PS3 making gaming impossible (unless you like playing right up against your TV). You also had to leave your PS3 running while it charged, and the PS3 would also switch itself off if left idle for too long (not so good all round). With this do-hicky you can now charge easily by attaching it to your controller, but most importantly, you can also continue to game. Its just a case of remembering to plug in the battery pack to a charging plug once you've finished gaming. It makes a big difference as its so easy to use.So if you often like long gaming sessions or you just forget frequently to charge your controller (who doesn't?) then this is a great device to have. It small too so easy to shove in a drawer.

Although we have a PS4, the PS3 still gets a bettering due, of course, to GTA5. I try to limit my son's time on the game (he assures me he only plays it for the races.....) but he does forget to charge the controller and then has to sit close to the screen with the USB cord plugged in.When I saw the Power Bank I was worried about the size and also the weight. However in play this was totally unwarranted. My son has fairly small hands and has said that he forgets it is there, and also that it is well balanced on the controller so doesn't affect gameplay at all. Pretty surprising to me, so if you have reservations that this will be too big or heavy don't worry, just give it a go.Charging is simple (same as charging the controller). Nothing technical to worry about. All in all this is one of those products which you can buy and forget about once in use, it is that painless.Highly recommended.(I notice there is a PS4 version coming out - really looking forward to giving that a try)

This is a great little battery pack. It's light, fits well onto the controller and doesn't interfere with your hand position. I was concerned initially that it makes the controller a little heavier, but I now don't notice it at all.It dramatically extends the battery life of the controller (at least doubling the time between charges in my very unscientific assessment). However, I'm not completely sure that it's needed - I never found it a problem to plug the controller into the PS3 whenever it needed a charge, and just play with the controller plugged in for a while. So for me this batter pack isn't essential. However, if you tend to sit further away from the console and the USB cable wouldn't stretch far enough, this pack could be a lifesaver. It's odd to release it now, with the PS4 taking on the flagship console mantle. However, given how fantastic the games are for PS3 I can imagine you'll get a good few years use out of this yet. Recommended.

I think anyone who has ever played a game on a PS3 has at some point experienced the annoying problem of the harrowing message that is displayed when the controller is approaching death while the game is just getting interesting. Whats more, with the PS3's embarrassingly short cable making playing an impossibility if you have a wall hanging TV, the system needs to be also kept on while charging! Oh dear then! This is precisely why one of these is needed!Keep playing for hours and hours on end, it perfectly erodes the problems addressed in the opening paragraph. There are a few downsides however! The build quality is pretty awful, compared with the PS3 controller it feels like a piece of added on plastic (which I suppose it is really).Yet besides from this it really is a solid product. Perhaps its worse enemy then is that there is now something called a PS4 out... and these problems are addressed with that update.

Now if like me, you are draining your power of your pad right after you have used it then this is for you. I drain mine regularly without knowing and this does become a lifesaver when you pad dies. Simply put charge your pad via your PS3 before using it then if it dies during a shootout simply attach this battery pack onto it and away you go for another set of hours. Of course anyone wanting to watch the TV will hate you but oh well, record whatever they want to watch.I have used this while playing the Yakuza games and yes i have drained it a lot, so this external battery pack is a lifesaver.

This is a great idea. I find that I forget to put my controller on charge and so sometimes end up having to stop playing a game to charge! Not with this gadget! After charging from the PS3 (using normal chargin cable) you just plug it in to your contoller and then have power to continue playing. I am not sure how long you get but plenty to finish off a level! I suppose the only downfall is that it is a little bulky to interferes ever so slightly with the normally comfortable grip - but not so much that you cant use it. Fab product!

This is really a bonus of convenience for your control pad. Basically you charge it from your PS3 and then you have a little power pack that can clip on to your dual shock pad when the battery on that conks out. Which does often happen during a game session mid game and then you've got to connect the wire which is an inconvenience, with this little beauty you just clip it on when you need to and it will charge your pad as you continue to use it, wire free. Hardcore gamers only I would say, or people with money to burn.

quick to charge ,easy to fit and i didnt find it got in the way too much. i would think this is good for serious gamers who cannot easily attach the charge cable to the remote during play and want to make sure power loss doesnt end play quite so soon or perhaps it has a use in that if your onboard battery in the controller doesnt hold a charge anymore this would save you having to buy a new one. either way if you had a use for this it is a good unit that holds charge well and is easy to fit

The instructions say to only use the console to charge the pack, and to remove it from the controller first. However, it seems to charge fine from my phone charger, and while connected to the controller. Fortunate really, as it would be next to useless if it didn't. So far I have not managed to play a game for long enough to discharge the pack.

works nicely and does the job it is meant to do well. A handy addition to my PS3 when the battery is running low in the controllers and means I no longer have to sit plugged in 3 foot away from the screen
