I really enjoyed The Surge and was very excited to play this follow up. The sequel game is extremely similar to the original which is both a good and bad thing. First off, you may already know that The Surge followed the Dark Souls game play style very closely. Its unique features were the limb cutting attacks to get better armour and weapons from stronger enemies, and the overall sci-fi setting rather than medieval horror. The Surge 2 picks up seemingly after the events of game one, with you ( a new character) arriving in Jericho City to find that everyone has been taken over by exo suits and there are weird monsters and "living machinery" growths every where. The plot in The Surge 2 is actually a bit of a let down. The original saw you arriving for your first day at work at the CREO institute, and unexpectedly having to escape the terrible situation that had happened there . In the sequel, you are essentially "nobody": a nameless survivor of an airplane crash who answers the telepathic plea of young girl who also survived the same crash, and who seems to have a special power. So you decide to fight your way through the hordes of possessed (or just belligerent) human enemies towards a strange cult that worship the machines, and attempt to help the girl in defeating the evil leader of the cult. The problem with the plot is this time around you just seem to be hell bent on killing everyone you see, rather than escaping the nightmarishly overrun CREO institute. So it doesn't feel like you have any real personality or understandable motive. The levels are different parts of the city, and the many shortcuts you open up as you travel are ingenious but they can get very confusing (the first game was also like this). There are dozens of weapons and armour types and they are all fun to try out. There are also dozens of plug-in "implants" which increase various stats or provide performance enhancing bonuses, so you can really create a character to suit how you like to play.To my surprise, some of the bosses in this game were not too difficult - except the first serious one , "Little Johnny", who gave me a real headache and was a true challenge befitting the game's legacy. Get past this one and you won't have any trouble with the rest of the game. In fact, some of the later bosses I killed on my first attempt, which I don't think ever happened in the first game. The final boss is a rather cheeky nod to the final boss in "Sekiro" - you'll know what I mean when you see it! Thankfully though, the final boss is NOWHERE near as hard as the one in Sekiro, so play with confidence, completing this game is well within the casual player's grasp. But still - play carefully otherwise you will definitely get beaten to a pulp.To sum up, a worthy sequel, only marred by some very confusing level layouts and a main character with no personality. Everything else gets my "thumbs up", enough for a top score.

The Surge 2 is a Sci-Fi action RPG in the ‘Souls-like’ sub-genre. The main hook of the game is the ability to sever specific body parts from enemies (Head, Body, Arms & Legs) to acquire the armour that enemy had equipped on said body part. This also works for weapons, so severing the arm holding a weapon will grant you the weapon in return. This system was present in the first Surge game and it is as fun and addictive as ever in The Surge 2.The most striking difference between the original and the sequel is the environment/level design. It still retains the ingenious labyrinthine structure of paths twisting and turning back on themselves to create shortcuts back to a safe zone, but the environments this time are much more interesting and varied. The forest covered hills of Gideon’s Rock being a highlight.Generally, I found that almost everything from the first game is present in The Surge 2, but each aspect has been improved greatly. There are new, more exciting weapon types (Over 50 unique weapons I believe), the boss fights are brilliantly designed and fun and the upgrade system has been refined (The ability to deconstruct higher level materials into lower level ones is a godsend!).While the combat remains largely the same, there is one significant addition which really changes how you approach enemy encounters. A directional parry system has been added, not unlike the system in Ubisoft’s For Honor. At first I thought the system was poorly implemented and near useless, but soon realised I was not using it correctly. You see, an icon appears around your character in a certain direction when an enemy is about to attack. I assumed that as soon as the icon appeared, I was to flick the right stick in that direction to parry the attack, but this was not the case. You have to wait for the split second before the attack actually connects to parry the attack and open up the opportunity to counterattack. Once I got used to this, the parry system was consistently satisfying and fun to use. That pretty much sums up my experience with The Surge 2, it was a consistently satisfying and fun experience. Throughout my first 27-hour playthrough I never got bored, I enjoyed collecting and upgrading as many weapons and armour sets as I could, and I was always excited to see what crazy new boss fight or story twist was around the next corner. The Surge 2 retains the trademark difficulty of the Souls-like genre, provides an expertly crafted world with excellent combat and satisfying progression wrapped around an intriguing Sci-Fi story. I have played a lot of Souls-like games, but this time developers Deck 13 have created a game good enough to rival From-Software’s own efforts.

The first was good and well done. This one is like the first but faster and slicker.Really enjoying it been playing since release and i have not stopped.I think this game has finally found its ground and will grow with the 3rd. I have only fought like 3 big bosses so far and i have no idea how far from the end i am. But if you like the surge 1 and dark souls buy this it is worth it. You can only get armour from chopping off enemies limbs. Loads of random side missions in this one and they have actually invented a story for it. The graphocs are decent on ny one x, i have no problems with it running. The little drone is cool,it has attachments that you need to find and you can also mark areas with symbols and place a hologram of yourself for other online players to find.Great game buy it... after this i will try code veinI thought i would add on i completed it and well i enjoyed it and currently doing new game plus. I will admit that the bosses arnt as impressive or annoying as the first. (annoying i mean you dont die as much i pretty much did every boss first time other than 1 or 2 of them). It took me around 29 hours to complete thats doing majority of side missions etc.

This is a good fill in while no dark souls / bloodborne ish games released.Took about 30 hrs to complete and was an enjoyable romp.I never played the first one, looked too dark,, that's lighting not story. I know some people liked that claustrophobic feeling but I like to be able to see what I'm fighting. This one is, albeit 1 small location, set in reasonably bright surroundings. There's a few different locations, not quite as moody and polished as dark souls locations but given its industrial / nano theme it faired well. The combat mechanic is actually very well executed and controls layout intuitive. I never quite got the parry system but didn't seem to matter once I got gear leveled a bit.Gear is,if anything, too plentiful. I got a favourite weapon quite early on and only swapped occasionally where a special effect was required for a boss encounter.Difficulty is no where near dark souls if playing with a bit of tactics. Get a weapon with decent speed and attack power, which staggers well. There were only about 3 bosses that were a real challenge. So all in all this ones recommended.
