My wife and I did a tasting between the 12 and 17 Doublewood and the 14 Carribean Cask with my current favourite, Glenmorangie's 18yo as a comparison. both the 12 and 17 had slight sulphurous notes to the nose but we're far more drinkable than Macallan's Sherry Wood which I can't bear. They were both rich in nose and palate with strong flavours of dried fruit and sherry with the 17 being far smoother to the taste, unsurprisingly I guess, but our favourite was the 14 Carribean Cask whose nose was fruity and exotic, and palate infinitely drinkable. Not the most complex whiskey, but for Speyside, it's wonderful and a great addition for any cabinet whereas the two doublewood are just too similar to many others like the Aberlour 12.That said,if you can switch, the Glenmorangie 18 still rules over them all for us. Go for that instead.

Now that's a surprise...and a good one at that.I recently tried a 20m 'taster' of the ordinary Doublewood and found it...well, ordinary. A nice start - a bit like GlenMorangie original but nothing much at the finish. I 3as recommended the Caribbean flask and in a fit of "I want some rum flavour...but I don't want a rum" I bought a bottle. I have to say, I love it. Everything that I think is missing from the Doublewood finish is here. It's definitely sweet with the rum flavour, and it's very very quaffable. Not at all fierce. I could get thru rather more of this in one sitting than is probable a good idea.A great whisky and whilst I'd like to keep it to myself, a great one for sharing with others too, especially those who aren't quite sure they like whisky at all.

I didn't used to be a fan of malt whisky and I am by no means an afficionado. While climbing some Munros a year or two back a friend gave me a nip of Glenfiddich which seemed to awaken my senses. A while after I was looking for a whisky to give a special neighbour who was also a Caribbean rum fan. This seemed perfect. I was lucky enough to be given a try and wow- this stuff is incredible. Strong, sweet and spicy with vanilla notes. Just heaven.I've also tried the Balvenie Doublewood which is again stunning but the CC just pips it.I prefer these Balvenie whiskies to Dalwhinnie, Glenfiddich 8 yo, Glenmorangie,Glenlivet and Tomatin which apart from the dastardly Laphroig are all of the single malts I have tried before.Highly recommended!

I have to say, I've tried a number of single malts, but this is my current favorite. This whisky is smooth and has a rich bouquet, with a wide range of tastes, and is very long in the mouth. There's a brandy-like taste - like a good, old cognac - but also a more zesty side to it. I'm not enough of a connoisseur of single malts (yet) to really appreciate all the subtleties of this whiskey, but it's grabbed me more than, say, a 15-year old Dalwhinnie, or a 16-year old Lagavulin. It could be that I just like this kind of whiskey more, but this is a very nice bottle.

The Caribbean Cask can only be described as a work of art. I'm a fan of sweeter whiskies, so this is perfect for me. Having said that, the caribbean cask is not just sweet - it has depth, has more body than Oban 14 and Glenmorangie which I appreciate. I wouldn't say it is a complex whisky but there are layers of flavour and a lingering finish which makes it perfect. I'm not a fan of peat and if you are this would obviously not be a suitable whisky but if you like whiskies that have sweet notes, a good body and a nice finish, the Caribbean cask is for you.

This is a great whisky. It has many of the characteristic Balvenie subtleties, and the rum cask finish adds an interesting twist. At roughly half the price of the 17 year old double wood, this is one of the best value bottles I’ve ever tasted. I would say that it is significantly nicer than the 12 y/o double wood- it’s a lot smoother to drink. As with all Balvenie’s, it’s not one to drink after a very strong tasting or peated whisky, s as the flavours are too subtle and get lost, so if you’re having several different drams, go for this early on.

This is a fantastic whisky. I'm a bit of a fan of 'double cask' whiskies for the complexity and originality of flavour they can introduce. The classic Balvenie taste is there, but it is more moody with the rum overtones darkening the palate with a subtle spiciness.I don't think this would replace a favourite bottle in anyone's drinks cabinet but it is a great one to have in there for when you fancy a change!

Add small amount of spring water to experience the full sweetness and taste. I had this as a present and compared it alongside some popular single malts such as Glenfiddich. But there was no comparison, it is better in every way (apart from price). I will be looking out for the other types of Balvenie, but currently the Caribbean Cask is my favourite whisky hence 5 stars.

This is an excellent Whisky, which I have been trying to get hold of for a few months, but which nobody seemed to have in stock.I first tried it after a meal at a pub in Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, and was impressed enough to seek it out, so I was really happy when I found it for sale on Amazon. This is not likely to be the last bottle I order!!!

A fantastic malt to add to the collection, the use of Caribbean rum casks adds a whole new level of flavour and a beautiful dark amber colour. The added spice from the Rum casks really makes this a unique drop and is now a firm favourite. will definitely be buying again

A fantastic Whisky, I have been drinking whisky for years and tried near 100 different drams, and this has to be in my top 5. Add a few drops of water to set this one off and enjoy! The spiced rum maturation provides a slight hint of vanilla in a very drinkable dram.

This is definitely my favourite whiskey, it's a shame it's at a price point which falls into the "extravagent purchase" realm or I would order a bottle every month. Beautifully smooth and delicious, I genuinely have no notes, keep up the good work Balvenie!

One of the nicest whisky's I've drank. Packed with loads of charterer it has an initial Smokey taste but is smooth to drink. Balvenie is one of those brands you can quickly fall in love with, go read the history and you will want to buy a bottle from them.

I bought this as a gift as it comes in a nice looking presentation box. When it arrived the label on the bottle was damaged and as it was a gift I asked for a replacement, they sent a replacement the next day. Very happy with the service and the product.

Outstanding Whisky and my Husbands favourite! I'm not a whisky drinker myself but like the taste of the rum that comes through from this one. Hubby complains that there seems to be a problem with the bottle, as once open it evaporates very quickly!!!
